I've had my Note 3 (SM-N900T) for a few months. Wifi calling worked up until a few weeks ago. I don't know what I could have done to break it, but it's busted. The phone is connecting to wifi (the internet works), but the wifi calling icon never appears, even if the setting is changed to only use wifi calling.
I've tried forgetting/reconnecting to wifi, worked with T-Mobile support, they verified all the settings on their end, and eventually gave me a new sim. They tried to blame my router (which hasn't changed in the last few weeks). I went to a friend's house and wifi connected fine, but no wifi calling. I went to a T-Mobile store and their wifi didn't work. Probably not the router...
My phone is rooted with the DeLaVega root (knox not set) with minimal changes. The T-Mobile store blamed this issue on the root, of course. This was working for quite a while after the root.
Before I do a factory reset, is there anything I'm missing?
Thanks!
Nope note 3 wifi calling sucks
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Do you think it's likely that even after the factory reset, this will eventually happen again? Should I just get used to the fact that I don't get wifi calling? That might send me crawling back to AT&T.
I had WiFi calling issues on Note3, updated router firmware, works like a champ since then (close to 2 months). Since my old GS3 worked well before router update, that was little tricky to figure out.

I looked up the model of the router, found the manufacturer, and downloaded the firmware file. Then logged into it and found the advanced features and updated the firmware. This process is slightly different for every router, but that's the gist of it.
It shouldn't impact the router settings. The only impact will be the brief downtime as the router updates and resets.

Sadly, I did a factory reset and replaced my router, neither of which were the root cause.
This was the issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2599509
I replaced the file specified in that thread and wifi calling is working now.

Hey all, I was hoping someone else has had this issue and has fixed it. I'm running a stock unrooted phone and when I connect to wifi, it connects to the AP and obtains an IP, but I cannot go out to any website or use any app that needs a connection (facebook app, etc). Things I've done:
Restarted phone
Factory reset phone
rebooted router
Tried other roms
Sent to samsung (they did a SW update) x2
Forgot the network, then reconnected
This is getting extremely frustrating as it's been this way since I've had it, but it got worse with the ICS update. Anything that anyone has tried and actually worked? The funny thing is, when you reflash the phone or do a factory reset, it works for about an hour then stops. Thanks in advance!
Have you ever connected that phone to a different wifi?
I encountered an issue a few months back where something went wonky and i had to completely reset my router and set it back up. Have you tried that too?

Yes, I've tried different wifi AP's and none of them have worked, while others are on them including mine at home. I have not reset the router and reconfigured it because it's a cisco and as such is a pita. I have looked through my config and cannot find anything obvious. But still, others are able to connect just fine.
Same issue here. Never noticed it until recently. Reflashed LE1 and it worked for a couple of days. Going to flash the galaxy note modem tomorrow.

I know it's a shot in the dark, but some said it worked....
Try to disable the "UPnP" in your router.
Let us know....
premiatul: I can't find anything in my router for upnp. If anyone knows how to disable it in cisco ios 12.4(11)T1, I'll gladly try it.
Autx: please let me know how that goes and if it works. Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up that the note radio didn't work. Also, the new official update didn't fix this issue either. Maybe I'll just have t-mo replace the device since it's not happening to everyone. Thanks all for your input!

I'm glad this worked for you. I can't tell you how many factory resets I've done and it fails every time within a day. I bit the bullet and did a t-mo warranty exchange. Seeing as so few people actually have this problem, I'm chalking it up to my having bad luck and got a lemon. I hope the new one works fine.

So I finally figured out what the issue was. A lot of mobile devices have a hard time connecting to highly secured networks such as wpa2. If you have a wpa, or wpa2 protected router, you can only use numbered passwords. Up to 10 characters. I tried this, and it's the only solution I found. If that still doesn't work, change your wpa2 security to wpa, with a numbered password only.

if you have to use numbers and only 10 chars, it sounds like a router config issue. sounds like you have WEP on rather than WPAx
Wifi busted
I actually have the same issue. Wifi worked flawlessly on gb. On ics every time phone goes to sleep it drops, notification says connected. Toggle wifi off and back on works, phone sleep back off. Tried wifi never, only when plugged in. Switched to 2.4 ghz only tried 5 ghz , too. Linksys ea4500 wpa2/aes(setting) brand new. None of the numerous other devices in the house have any issues. Speeds seem awesome.
Tried factory reset nothing works. Even got sprint to get me a new phone, still no solution other than going back to el29. Currently, running fi03 stock rooted. Scared to try latest fi25. Any other suggestions would be great.

still sounds like a router compatibility issue. See if it happens on a different wifi.
The only way i can successfully stay connected is if there is no security or wep is used. Same router nothing had changed. Again worked flawlessly with EL29 update comes to FF18 and it no longer works. Sprint has said it is a known issue with ics on samsung and htc but no fix. Don't want to give up my security just to use wifi. If i roll back to gb everything works again without changing anything in the router. So i don't believe that is it. Plus, i know all about router settings not a noob. I beleive it to be something in the phone update.

My wife runs fully stock newest release and its fine. Try a different router. routers can have compatibility issues with devices. Also you say "its a known issue" but can you give a source?
I'm not saying its router settings. I'm saying it can be a compatibility issue between router and phone chipset.

I guess i should've mentioned there are 2 of the same phone in the house. Wifi works fine on the other device. Source? As in sprint tech support told me over the phone it was a known issue with samsung and htc devices, not all are affected. This is why sprint decided to replace my old non working phone for the new one.
Not sure why of it were truly a setting inside the router why would one work but not the other? Seems highly improbable to me, just saying. I do appreciate the feedback though.

So two of the same phones. One connects and one doesn't. Interesting. About the tech, seems a pretty wide declaration of an issue. samsung and htc phones. lol. There are a ton of those and its a 'known issue'. If it were a known issue, they would have it tied to a specific phone and wouldn't say 'well err um some phones work and some dont'. lol. Anyway, I don't usually trust those techs.
Back to the issue. If one works and one doesn't... Then it sounds software or still compatibility type issue.
Have you tried these things? If it were me, this what i'd try....
1) I'd reflash your phone's ROM fresh and try again. Full wipe. It's possible the update boinked your wpa_supplicant settings.
2) DHCP: stick a static IP on your android and see what happens. (dont confuse this with a static dhcp lease) DHCP does some interesting things on android phones as far as wakelocks and such.
3) In the router, turn off all the bell and whistle crap... Some of these routers have things like 'afterburner' and things like that. It can cause issues at times. Keep track of what you turn off and obviously if it don't work, turn it back on again.
EDIT:
This is interesting as well. Your not the only one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1847889&page=4
Try the things I posted but ultimately, you may need to just flash a different ROM version... Doesn't mean you need to go all the way back to EL26. At least you know its not only you...
So I initially called Centurylink, and they told me to change security settings. I did this, and it worked for a short period, but then dropped again. I couldn't figure out why this kept happening, and it had become quite frustrating. Then I realized that I had created a new network with a personalized name and password. My laptops connect fine to that network, but my phone won't, so I connected to the initial network created by Centurylink, and have had no issues. So I can suggest trying that as well. Hope that helps

Same issue for me too, since moving from gb. Running S710.10 S.FI27
I see this on both of the WIFI networks I connect with regularly. Home is worse. Every other device at home, including phones, PCs, TVs, tablets: mine and guests, can connect and stay connected just fine. My Epic 4g with ICS can't stay connected to save it's life.

Set up both home networks using WPA/WPA2-PSK and no issues. Did have issues at work with WEP so perhaps that's the offending solution? If so try TKIP instead.

Gone in FI25/FI27 - looks like it won't be re-appearing until JB, at least if FI10 was accurate in this respect.
I was using MrRobinson's stock rooted rom. When OTA 4.1.2 came out, I unrooted, installed patch, ran CF-Autoroot then I'm back to rooted again. However I did notice, every now and then, my wifi stays connected but connection dies. Internet connection is simply dead. So I don't get any email notifications if ever I get new emails. To fix this I have to turn wifi off/on and internet is ok again. I thought maybe I did something wrong so I wipe cache/factory reset, odin back to full stock non-rooted, installed OTA then use Exynos Abuse/Exploit to root. I am still experiencing the same issue. Att Smart Wifi is disabled. Wifi is always on under sleep policy. I have scorched the net and I can't find any solutions Any help would be much appreciated.
Mine is on the oem update no root even, and my wifi sucks now. The signal and connection will be good but it can't up or download anything. Wifi speed and cellular data speeds are all sub 1mbps also. ATT wifi is disabled also.
The only thing that helps me is to just pair to another wifi source, and go back if needed. Annoying! I'd love to find some solution also, I don't mind rooting if need be for it also.

You can still do warranty to get a new one just call att and tell them your situation with it. This would be my best recommendation to you. Or just root and keep running roms. This is one phone that I havent had the urge to customize with a rom or anything yet

Thanks for the recommendation but I also felt the same before. I thought the phone was fast enough that I didn't need to try custom roms. After trying Scott's ATT CleanRom SE, that idea was simply change. If you haven't, you should try running custom roms. Although, I would still want to know if there is a solution to this problem when running stock rom.

Perhaps it's a minor bug somewhere and the custom ROMs happen to pull that wireless code piece from something other than official 4.1.2 where the bug (if it is one) is located.

True, but 4.1.1 didn't have this issue. They must have changed something.
I don't know if it is related to the issue in this thread, but I had a problem with the phone since I got it of the WIFI constantly connecting, then disconnecting, then connecting again. I solved it by changing the security model of the router from WPA/WPA2 to WEP128.

Yeah saw that thread somewhere but this is a whole different issue. Wifi stays connected but no connection to the internet. You get connection timeout.
Yeah mine just quits. A note 1, a note 10.1, 2 ipads, 2 iphone 4's, and xperia ion and three separate computers have had zero issues on any of the wifi networks here. In fact, if I leave it be, it will not work on the phone, and it now seems to block all the rest from access! If I turn the wifi off on this, perfect immediately afterward. Strange.

did you try just simply reset your router?
I had all the problems in this thread after 4.1.2 A factory reset fixed it.
I'm using the international ROM (custom but fairly stock) and started experiencing the same issue when I switched ROMs.
Toggling the wifi always fixes the problem, but it's not a permanent solution. The problem seems to happen when the device goes into sleep mode for me.

Have you already factory reset your phone? A lot of people have had minor issues and flashing stock firmware or factory reset has helped some issues.

Me too I hate it... That and the range my phone has is terrible

Sitting by pool, about 60ft and 3 walls from the access point. SSID name is "Disconnected" (really messes with the neighbors). Access point is well sitted, up high in my home office fairly new with current firmware..
You can see the 5Ghz version of the AP in the list as well.
You might have to go back to factory rom, or turn your wifi off and disable always scanning. It may be trying to find a better network.

My range is very respectable. But unfortunately today I discovered this issue. It would very slowly connect then disconnect even quicker. Two stock phones on same WiFi in my neighborhood grill lol.

Unfortunately, i think its just the hardware. Your phone might have two antennas and if you find your correct kernel, you could change it to run off the best antenna possible. might take some testing and such. if all else fails go to your service provider for a evaluation

Thanks for taking the time to look into this. I never really had WiFi issues before until today in the restaurant. If it wasn't for my wife having the same phone I would have addsumed it was the stores router.

Your quite welcome, always glad to help. My old Galaxy would malfunction the same way sometimes. Sometimes between my router and the neighbors and Other times on random hotspots. Sometimes you may have to go in the browser and accept a terms of use. If you figure out the problem, send me a pm.
Cheers - Colgan

Yes, correct. Once after connecfting to the Wifi Router I need to launch the stock Samsung browser to accept their terms and conditions, this process in itself takes about 5 mins or hangs proir to terms and conditions screen it boots me off the WiFi and says its unstable or too slow per my original post.
Its just that theres too many people on the network, Thats the only issue. It mainly does this on public networks. So it is not a phone problem its a client network problem
I had this briefly on my home WiFi. Wasnt a client network as I allow 10 objects to be on mine. Its water under the bridge but that is a possibility on a public network.

I had this problem in spades.
It has nothing to do with a public hotspot or router.
I'm not entirely sure it's not on some type of pattern yet, like 7 or 8 days.
I'll bet you that if you had powered off your phone for a few minutes and turned it back on, the problem would have been gone.
I am pretty sure this is something going on with the Radios in these phones.
Everytime mine gets flaky it usually resolves with a power down for a few minutes.
The other problem I've seen is that if I shut down wifi a number of times in a row because I want to use Mobile data, it will then start not staying connected when I want to use it.
I have to power off and power on and re enter the WPA2 password.
After seeing another thread with some other strange issues, I'm convinced there is a HW or SW issue related to the wifi radio.
I have seen the message exactly like you have here on a AP at my house that only has 2 clients on it and performs flawlessly.
It wouldn't connect to attwifi at Sam's yesterday for some reason.
This is one of the reasons I won't ROM it yet either. I'm still not convinced that it might not go home to the mothership at some point.
I'm not a newb and I'm pretty sure aosp roms wont have the problem. I think its pretty disgraceful for such a great phone to have these wifi disconnects. No its not the router, I have a note 2 and s2 running flawlessly and I don't want to do a store return for the same phone. Any insight would be appreciated and voiding a warranty is the least of my concerns.
Anyone out there lol
I am interested with this also. Free bump.
Btw, I got authentication error on the wifi, not sure with yours.
Tested with 4 different routers, no go. Meanwhile, my iPhone and Nexus 5 are working fine, so are all my other devices like TV, laptops, IP camera etc.

I get that plus I was getting a security error notification I don't remember until I deactivated lookout. Now it just disconnects after maybe 8 minutes or so.

What router and router firmware do you have. Are you using kk or 4.3. Is their heavy traffic on your router channel? Also can you show a screenshot of your WiFi settings.

I have Asus RT-N66U - stock firmware because DD-WRT have issues. I also tried D-Link, Netgear and Buffalo.. all bought JUST to test this damn Wi-Fi issue. All connection to 802.11n 5Ghz and I tried every single channel out there.
I am using JB 4.3, stock, rooted. Wifi setting is:
- Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep: Only when pluggen in
- Always allow scanning: no
- Auto network switch: no
No heavy traffic most of the time. Issue happens whether I play Netflix or not.

You just solved all your issues. Go on the 2.5 GHz. Forget 5ghz. Test that out I bet you it works. 5ghz has less people on it it also is unstable. Very unstable. I shut mine off on my router cause of all the headaches it was causing.
ASUS RT-N66U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.374.4561

Hmm.. that's bizarre. I have used 5Ghz for a long time and all my other devices (Nexus 5, Nexus 7, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S) works great with the 802.11n 5Ghz radio. No authentication error. My place is also "crowded" with all the neighbors' Wi-Fi, all 2.4 Ghz.
I will test it out, but I found 2.4Ghz is slower when say, streaming netflix. Slightly more buffering.

My note 2 would fly on 5ghz. This phone will not. A lot of people have issue. You should download WiFi analytics by netgear and see what channel is best for you and change it manually. Also firmware. Update it

Ok say I went ahead and rooted and installed Jedi and still had an unstable connection issue so I tried pac-rom and confirmed no issued with wifi, went back to Jedi and was still getting wifi disconnects. After a lot of hair pulling and google search I found a xda user post in a thread (I can't remember where) were an owner of the note3 and s4 said he fixed his wifi disconnects on both phones by changing his routers band settings to g or b and not mixed g/b like it had been set on. I decided to give it a try so I switched mine from what was a b/n band to just a b band and low and behold I was able to stream a whole movie via allshare without a disconnect where as before it was about 8 minutes before a disconnect. I hope this thread helps somebody. I will report back with an update In a day or so.

[Thats right, you my friend deserve a beer but had I not abandoned my on thread a day I wouldnt be rooted now and on 4.4.2 lol.And yes I should've referenced your 1st reply in this thread because thats what triggered the search for router settings for 4.3-4.4.2 sammys. If you don't mind I want to post a screenie from my router settings and see if you could possibly help me get my wifi speeds higher than the 5mb I'm getting after I made the change, before I always got atleast 25mb on the speedtest.net app . I'll have to wait till I get home.

Well the fact that you have been on it for more than a day without issue I say it a win. Any other issues could be something else.
