So... What's T-Mobile Like?? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

With the ads that T-Mobile is paying ETF's and seeing I can get the Note 3 for $0 down and that it's rootable with Odin and CF Auto Root, and there are even ROMS (although I didn't really look through them yet), AND T-Mobile has 4G here, would I miss anything from US Cellular?

All depends on your location. I'm in Denver and rarely have any trouble with service. Have been happy with my switch from evil red.

I'm in the Tampa area and I love it. Strong coverage with the only issue being building penetration
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk

Since I have great coverage and 4G right now with US Cellular, I'd assume T-Mobile would be the same. I might have to stop into a store and see what's up.

In the metro Atlanta area, awesome service. Left sprint when the note 3 came out, best decision ever.

I'm in Seattle (go hawks) and service is amazing. lte is fast and everywhere. Been with them 12 years in 3 markets. The service and products is top notch, but it's probably sketchy if you live or travel frequently in a rural area. Metro areas and along interstate routes are good though, in my experience.

Better than Sprint in Tampa. Thats for sure.

I am also in the Tampa area (live in Wesley Chapel and work by the airport). I recently left Sprint and am loving the service so far. Both give me great signal in my house, but the key area is my job. With Sprint, i barely got a signal at my job and my battery would be lucky to last by lunch with my Note 2. With my Note 3 on Tmo Im getting great signal at my job (switches between 4g and 4g LTE). Im also getting calls with Tmo where there were times when my wife called on my Sprint phone, it would go to VM.
The only concern I have is that Sprint is supposed to launch their new network in my area and its supposed ot be better at building penetration. My wife and I have been with Sprint over 10 years and think we have found a new home with Tmo

I found a lot of people are making this trip lol.....but its worth it and with Tmo, i think i will like my service better. My only concern was that my wife has an Iphone 5S and it doesnt have WiFi calling. So i need to make sure that she is good with the coverage. Even with new service Sprint is going to get in Tampa, I think its a case of little too late.

I was in Orlando this weekend (usually go up there with my wife one a month or so). I noticed the coverage was great! My wife and I had signal in places where our Sprint phone didnt. Since we are testing it out during the return period, we were able to do side by side comparisons and the Tmo phone did better every time where we were up there.

I'm in the Orlando area, I'm happy with my T-Mobile service and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm also in Orlando and coming from Sprint I've seen a dramatic difference in coverage and network speed when I jumped to T-Mobile. Sprint was robbing me!

For the 8+ years I've been with T Mobile it's been good so far. Some areas I do have signal issues but with Wifi calling it's not an issue. Each carrier have their pros and cons. For me T Mobile suit my needs and for a very good price.

Question for those who live on Puerto Rico and have a E4GT.

What modem works best here,my phone lately doesn't even open facebook,it was slow when i got it on February, but in my house it open facebook, and pages well not at blazing speeds but it loaded them..
Close to a month ago the news hit that Sprint was moving to LTE,there were a few days were a ton of people have no reception at all,and it was say by sprint that it was do to sprint moving to LTE.
Since that my E4GT doesn't want to open pages, the signal is very bad drop call all the time, and even start roaming in my house when it did not do that before,i live in Carolina close the Campo Rico so i know there is signal here there was before.
Do you think it will get better with another modem.?

My friend the only thing i can say is that sprint does not work in PR. I recently had my family vacation on the island that i haven't visited in five years and i definitely can say that there no signal or 3g or 4g and i tried EVERY SINGLE MODEM no dice, its just a horrible experience if u ask me. The only company that works very good to our standards it's att it evens has a very good 4g signal. So is either att or try to feed you're phone with a LOT of wifi.

Is some parts of Barrio Obrero i got,and in 2 other places near Trujillo, other than that no were else,it is true that Sprint charge you $10 for 4G.? Because i read an article in spanish which was publish on April this year about that.
It attack sprint horrible networks and services, and actually claimed that they sold phones for an almost non existent 4G wimax network, and that people were paying $10 for a 4G they where not getting to use i wonder if this is true, because i will put such a fight on sprint store...Either they move me to an LTE phone or i am gone.

While you are evaluating the handset and the LTE coverage, make sure you update the baseband firmware with the LG8 version now being pushed out. It can make all the difference in getting and holding LTE connections.
And if you are serious about researching the Sprint LTE rollout, go to S4GRU.com and consider becoming a sponsor to gain access to fuller information about the network.

Did you really type that? You do remember this is SPRINT, right?
It worked in Denison yesterday for me. I live in Richardson and it works well for me. Had lunch in Addison and it worked. Also get a signal in Garland where I work. Very spotty north of Plano. Surprisingly strong in East Garland/West Richardson. Haven't ventured downtown with new phone so can't say about that yet. Did get an LTE signal in Oakcliff(20/Wheatland) last weekend.
The closest i got 4G off Central and NW HWY area was at Central and Southwestern BLVD. Which is a tad bit south of NW HWY.
I went to Chipotle. I took a speed test in chipotle and another one when i was on the service road across from the tower just south of Southwestern blvd. FYI, i saw them upgrading that tower 2 weeks ago but this is the first time 4G light up for me there. See pics for speeds. Slower speed was inside chipotle. Faster speed was across the highway from the tower on the service road.
I quickly lost it as went south toward Down Town Dallas.

Lte in Disney / Orlando area?

Anyone living in the area can tell me if lte is available there? I'll be visiting mickey with the family and I've never experienced lte on sprint b4 since it's not yet available in my area (ft Lauderdale). I'm running paranoid rom and I'm not sure if lte is functional on it. I have a backup of a stock build just in case.

I hope they get SOMETHING there. In April, the 3g was WORTHLESS in the parks. Seriously.
I will say this, when I and the family was at Universal Studios and Disney World for the week, people everywhere were on their phones, and I would say 95% had iPhones. I saw only one person with a GS3.
I had dinner at the California Grill on top of the Contemporary last night (12/29/2012) and got a LTE signal. 11MB down/5up
Not sure if you've been already or not but I got LTE service this morning for the first time I've noticed on 429 for a couple miles at least, I read 11.21up,3.42 down---- 20.27up 6.72down---- 12.14up .75down.
i was in orlando last weekend (universal studios) and the in park coverage was horrid. it was pretty busy so i don't know if it was just the number of people there or what. also i had my roaming off. outside the park, the coverage was ok (3 bars). i don't remember any lte

T-Mobile fliped the switch to 1900mhz h+ in 5 w

Excuse me while I do my happy dance for a second (queue Flashdance dance sequence). Great news for those who love T-Mobile’s low monthly rates, but wish unlocked phones from AT&T or other parts of the world worked on their network. Tonight, T-Mobile has officially flipped the 4G switch on for their 1900MHz network in 5 new markets around the US — my home area of southern California being one of them. Here’s the other 4 markets lit up as well:
Chicago, including the surrounding areas of: Aurora, Berwyn, Chicago Heights, Cicero, Des Plaines, Downers Grove, Evanston, Evergreen Park, Naperville, Oak Park, Schaumburg, Wilmette and Winnetka.
Reno, Nev.
Sacramento, Calif., including the surrounding areas of: Antelope, Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Fair Oaks, Folsom, Loomis, North Highlands, Rancho Cordova, Rio Linda, Rocklin, Roseville, Vacaville and West Sacramento.
Fresno, Calif.
Southern Calif., including: Alhambra, Anaheim, Claremont, Culver City, El Monte, Encino, Garden Grove, Granada Hills, Inglewood, Irvine, La Crescenta, Laguna Niguel, Monrovia, Monterey Park, Newport Beach, North Hills, North Hollywood, Paramount, Pasadena, Redlands, Reseda, Rosemead, Santa Ana, San Fernando, San Gabriel, Santa Monica, South El Monte, Temple City, Torrance, Upland, Valley Village, Van Nuys, Westminster and Wilmington.
What does this mean to you? Well, where normally AT&T and unlocked devices from other parts of the world would only get 2G speeds on T-Mobile, suddenly find themselves capable of 4G speeds. Found a good deal on an unlocked quad-core Samsung Galaxy S3? Activate it on T-Mobile. Have an HTC One X+ but hate paying up the wazoo for AT&T service? Activate it on T-Mobile.
And for those keeping count, T-Mobile now covers 100 million people in the US with their enhanced 4G HSPA+ network, making the #4 largest carrier in the US a viable option for those feeling like they’re paying too much on AT&T. As for me, I’ll be picking up Verizon’s HTC Droid DNA and loading it up with my T-Mobile SIM for super quick HSPA+ data speeds at half the monthly rate. Woot!

1900 MHz lit up or not, T-Mobile still can't push a decent signal into large buildings. I was at the LA Convention Center the other day...pretty much a dead-zone for my Note II once I got inside any exhibit halls, but my Verizon S3 was pulling LTE the whole time. Not sure how AT&T would have done in there, I didn't bring my AT&T phone with me.
Granted, Santa Clarita isn't on the published list of 1900 MHz cities yet, but in my office in a factory building up there, it's the same thing, T-Mo dead-zone, AT&T dead-zone if more than few feet from my window, but VZW pushes a good data signal all the way into the elevators in the center of the building. Pretty frustrating.
I've got a little less than a week to return my Note II to T-Mobile and cancel my plan. Probably won't, but very tempted to just upgrade one of my VZW phones to their Note II and be done with T-Mo's weak signals. Although it's much better than it was a few years ago when I had a T-Mo Nexus One, I now get a good HSPAP:15 signal in my house, which was a dead-zone two years ago.
So has anyone tested to see what kind of speeds theyre gettin? Im very curious. Because I know my hspa beats att data speeds almost all the time. With these new bands well smoke em dead

In building penetration is largely a factor of the frequency that you are on. the lower the frequency the better the penetration. So carriers using 850 will get a way better signal than ones using 1900.
Of course smart carriers like their customers to be on their networks burning up those minutes/megs and so put micro or pico cells in big buildings that have poor coverage....

I am actually in Schaumburg IL, I have to say data runs somewhat faster!
I live with my brother for a few weeks, and his living room is a complete dead spot for T-Mobile. I ran speedtest before and it would not even get through 1000kb download sometimes. I had done some tests already, and I am hitting over +5000 download and +1500 upload constantly
I see improvement... might not have much to do with 1900mhz lol... but a few of my friends reported spotty 3G in the suburb. Downtown is getting a good 3000 download at least

4G lte!

Idk but i think rochester mn has 4g lte. Got some of it. It was fast! Does anyone else got it where they live? Now im feelin sprint cause they unlimited data on 4g lte. The cool thing was i had full bars too. Download was at 25.62 mbps and upload at 6.26mbps

Sprint- What is San Diego? Is that a drink or something?
me- No. It's the 8th largest city in the U.S.
Sprint- Sorry but our "8" key is missing and we don't like "8" anyways so the answer is never.
San Diego has not been mentioned on any official lists but Ardmore,OK had LTE. All 24,553 humans and 30,000 cows with cell phones. Hope this is not another San Diego 4G WiMax trolling by Sprint.

setting up 4G LTE in small towns is cheaper than in big cities and allows them to have a better "number of 4g towns and cities" that 4g carriers love to mention in ads.

At least it's in Minnesota! I heard December for up here (Forest Lake) and still not getting it. I've gone this long without it so it's not a big deal but I'd be nice if they could stick to what they said. Almost February now and nothing! I update my profile almost daily.

I received an email a year ago that Portland, OR would have it by the end of 2012. That did not happen, and now Oregon is not even one of the States listed as a market that is getting it. I guess they moved us to phase two or three. Kind of sucks because we were early in the wimax roll out.
I have to travel 30 miles to LA to even get LTE. Orange County is small but very compact. We were one of the first ones to get 4G WiMax but probably last for LTE
Is there a log or something where it shows all the cities that have been announced?

They're deploying through the New Orleans Metro area now. Not much so far but it's progress.
I'm so jealous of people that get LTE. I live in San Francisco and on the old 4G WiMax network, I used to get 4G at home and at the office. Now that I'm on an LTE phone, I only get 3G at home and at the office. The sucky part is that if I walk 1 block in any direction of my house or office, I'll get a 4G LTE signal. I really hope Sprint boosts the signal or add additional antennas so I'm not stuck in a 4G LTE deadzone for the next 2 years.....:crying:
Sprint Is just pure BS when it comes to any network rollout or advancements, thats just fact. even though they were bought out, its their corporate structure they need to change. On every level they are one of the most sloppy companies i have ever dealt with in my life. And seriously why would they roll out LTE IN BUTTVILLE and in ghettos. aND YES IM SERIOUS about that statement too. In Los Angeles, There is LTE alright but not where there are many people like to travel such as south LA, (south Central) yeah the LTE is crackin there!! No Lie
Here's a couple speed tests of when I went to GA a couple weeks ago. I got lte 80% of the time. It was nice. Can't wait to get it in NC.

Lte is available in Portland and some random town a few blocks from where I work here in Washington state.
Btw Porto Rico is nearly completely covered with lte... Is anyone in that country even wealthy enough for an lte device? I didn't even know sprint was available there lol

Wtf kind of ****ery statement is that?! I'm 100% Puerto Rican and although I was born and raised here in the states I travel a lot to PR. I have a good job in the medical field and can afford an lte device. In fact I have three on my account right now with two wimax devices. That statement is a bit offensive bro..
I'll just leave this here for you.

Yeah, that wasn't to nice. Maybe they were just envious of the hot women and beach.
There isn't much to check out on Arizona.

Yea, that was uncalled for.
For the last part of 2012, I was getting great LTE speeds in downtown Houston. They ranged from 22 - 25 down and from 7 - 9 up. Nowadays, however, I'm only getting about 3.86 down, but still averaging ~8 mbps for upload. Do you think this drop in only download speed is due to people getting more and more LTE capable phones?
