I've searched this before on google and found a similar thread but only the data shut off for that person... I completely lose signal though whenever i flash a custom rom and go on standby... works perfectly fine on stock but if I try hyperdrive or wicked (only 2 I've attempted) and i shut the screen off the whole signal disappears but reappears a second or 2 after I turn it back on. Any idea what the problem can be? I've tried both CWM and TWRP and both have the same results, I've tried reflashing the radio also to no avail... I hate stock roms someone help plz lol
What's your baseband version? Are you still on the MDL bootloader? If so you need to flash the mk2 baseband for your data to work. Go to settings about device and check your baseband version. I'll let you know more one we know what version you have.

MDL i guess, M919UVUAMDL
my data works though... the issue is that on standby all cell signal drops not just data but everything i get the cancel sign.
ps. I found a thread with the MK2 baseband.. but apparently theres 1 for GSM and a seperate LTE file.. do i flash both? how does that work?

Yes only flash the modem.bin! Do not flash the bootloader or you will void your warranty. Make sure the files you flash are for the SGH-M919. After you flash the modem.bin make sure that it sticks check your baseband again and make sure it says mk2. Sometimes you have to flash the modem more than once for it to stick.

Feel as if my service has suffered since the flash, is mk2 known to have service issues compared to MDL? If not would a possible kernel flash possibly rectify the issues I'm perceiving?

At the beginning there was issues. It was mostly kernel related. I am on dbombrom from dannyben and have never had an issue. You should give it a try it's pretty awesome. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2611442

Dbombrom will fix your data drop issue. If you don't want to try that now I suggest you flash the latest kt kernel just Google it and flash the late one for M919 android 4.3 it may also fix your issue.

In case people here do not check the i9505 forums. I followed these steps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2360346
to fix a soft bricked i9505g on my M919 Tmobile Galaxy S4. Everything worked perfectly even though odin/download mode had lots of errors showing on the s4's screen.
Google wallet activated, LTE, wifi. So far I cannot find anything wrong.
Partitions are still the same as the original phone so there should be no reason you cant use odin to return to stock.
I take no responsibility if you do this and something gets hosed but its working great for me. If you want stock google but dont want to deal with peoples custom roms this may be the way to go.
You my friend are a bloody reckless, and absolutely brilliant Sir! I might give this a try. Waiting for a bit more feedback, but well played! :highfive:

Someone on there did it with a i9505 and confirmed it working so i figured I might as well give it a shot. Especially since our phones are closer to the i9505g than the i9505 is.

No, same baseband. Im not that brave.
So, flashing the modem.bin in Odin gives me an authentication failure. I just figured I would mention that. Attempted to flash it through the phone option.

It'll fail. Google OTA's have historically included bootloaders and modem updates. As a result, those won't be able to be flashed for the same reason they can't be flashed in Odin (sig mismatch).

Looks like im only getting LTE data and not HSPA. It connects to HSPA but no actual data transfers. Calls work fine though. Edge works fine as well

Really dont know if its something i did or was something else that caused it.

I'm sure this question has been answered b4 and I'm sorry. So just hear me out. I've had problems over the past week with getting my phone to receive SMS and calls. I can make calls but I'm not able to receive them. I was on the phone with the sprint the other night and they were doing all these things to try and fix it. They had me do dial pad codes and my phone did not respond to those. They had me send some SMS messages to myself the text went through but didn't go back to my phone. And when I reflashed the modem and rom on Sunday afternoon I lost 3g I used to get almost 5-6 bars in my house on 3g and now I barely get 1 bar. I am on Stock Gb27 rooted stock kernel but I was on agats Gb27. I need help I would like to avoid getting a new phone. Thank you in advanced

i dont think the ics dialer idea would work...you can keep trying different modems and see what happens or tell sprint that they suck and demand an airave..they will probaly charge you for it..
As for which phone to get...there is no way for me to answer that man...But i'll tell you this. When i get my next phone it will be the water/dust resistent S4..But i dont see a new phone helping the signal..
You could change you're prl to a roaming one..there are guides here and there online..But this only works for sprint not boost..If you're on sprint..a custom prl would be my move..

I would odin a one-click back to stock rooted ics...you might have something left over from rom flashes messing with you're signal. Make sure you back everything up on you're pc...because you need to use the wipe data one-click..i think its called ''no data''. I'll look to make sure.

Sorry..i seen you have signal now..ive been jumping around and helping others in about 3 different forums. If you're problem is just sms or mms. I would wipe the cache for the sms app in app manager. Then boot to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache.Reboot. If it is still wonky..try checking you're apn settings..if they are wrong.change them and reboot.
Should I just look online to see if they're wrong.

Ok guys and gals, here we go again. This is a stock, deodexed, version of the latest OTA MG2 build for Boost/VM variants of the Samsung Galaxy S III, with SuperSU and Busybox installed. Apks are also zipaligned. This will not install a modem and should not wipe your device. This was built from the Samsung Official MG2 build tar.
The reason I say for both variants is because as far as I can tell, this update is a “generic” update. What I mean is that whatever carrier you are on, it will update your phone and not change any of your carrier’s settings, ie, mmsc url, carrier banner, etc.
Thanks:
Google and XDA, for obvious reasons
Kennyglass123 - For posting guidance and all the awesome moderating he does around town
Stryke_the_Orc - For believing in me, for being a great friend and mentor, and always pushing me to do more
Garwynn – Without you showing me how to “catch” this, I would have never had the tar to build the zip from. Thanks for all your help and support.
Remotehugger – For being patient as I built this. I know you’ve been dying to test drive it!
If I have forgotten someone, please, please, let me know. I am all for giving credit where it is due.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for whatever you do with your phone. Please flash at your own risk
Download Link:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23212708291678176
Md5: d813784d8ce01c45a9870bc9981445ef
Flashing Instructions:
This will NOT flash a modem. If you are coming from stock MD7, you will keep MD7. Same goes for whatever baseband you have right now!
1. Download zip to your sdcard
2. Reboot into CWM, TWRP, or other compatible recovery (I recommend CWM 6.0.3.1 Touch)
3. Wipe Data, Cache, Dalvik(might be able to flash dirty if coming from stock TW, try at your own risk)
4. Flash zip
5. Reboot
6. Profit
Issues:
Not an issue per se, since Sprint hasn't updated to MG2, but for some reason, flashing this to Sprint, even with the modem, is causing data issues. Might be an apn/mmsc issue, but I don't have Sprint, so I can't confirm. If someone with Sprint figures this out, please post it for all to know
Note:
As I said before, this will NOT install a modem. Until we get some modem zips, the only way that I have found to get the modem I want is to flash the OTA tar, to get the modem, then whatever zip rom I want(if that makes sense).
Downloading now !!!!!!! now i will stop getting those pesky push notifications that a firmware update is available - lol - thank you tons jd - so very much appreciated -

I'm on Boost, and therefore have MD7, which is Boost and vm version of MD4. And I haven't noticed any real differences, except a few app updates. Sprint has not updated to MG2, only Boost and VM that I'm aware of. However, I have a theory I'd like a Sprint user to give me feedback on. If a Sprint user flashed this, please tell me what your dropdown banner and network(settings/about device/status)reads. Also, please verify mms works sending and receiving. Thanks! And enjoy. And look at the post above for the modem for this. I'll add it to the OP later.

Hmmm, that's interesting. So even flashing my MG2 rom, you're unable to get any data? I would think that it would be the same concept as me(being on Boost), flashing a Sprint ROM...have you checked your apn and mmsc settings? They may be causing the issue. I may change the heading to just Boost/VM then, if that's the case. Thanks for the information.
Edit: Did the banner stay Sprint?

Shouldn't need anything at all to check that. I meant just the pulldown notification bar(should read Sprint), and in settings/about device/status, what does the network say....and I'm sure you know, but if you change your mmsc/apn settings, you'll need your MSL. Good luck, and thanks again for the info.
For those of you reading this and have a phone with the newest Boost MG2 update then you will need to call Boost to get your MSL. No way to get it with the old methods. Trust me, I've tried. LOL.
They'll give it to you easily enough. I had mine 10 seconds after telling them I wanted it.

I had to have my MSL to use the Prl Write feature. You don't need your MSL to change your APNs. All I do to change mine is flash a Boost xml with the APN Backup and Restore app.
As for the LJ7 modem, I'm running it now. I've spoke with several of us Boost guys and we're all getting better reception with the older modem. So much for newer being better.

I had to have my MSL to use the Prl Write feature. You don't need your MSL to change your APNs. All I do to change mine is flash a Boost xml with the APN Backup and Restore app.

No. Thankfully I kept my backup. I just use the restoremodem.zip to restore my backup of MG2.
If I decide to switch back I'll give it a try. Going to stay with Lj7 right now since I'm getting better signal.

Stick on 4.3 until Samsung gets all the kinks fixed out or a dev does.

I mentioned them on your thread. I dont know why I had so many issues with the Tmo Rom but didnt have any issues (except the data signal) when using the other 4.3 Rom (international) you made. But im glad I didnt update officially!

Same here, love this rom. Better battery life, too. One issue I have is occasional reboots. But someone mentioned I have to format my ex SD card.

For right now with the bootloader Knox issues, I'm sticking with 4.12 and using the the 4.3 MK7 radio. I've gone through them all and this
improved my signal and battery time significantly. More over, with this modem improvement, I've fallen in love again with my finely tuned
Jedi-x20 all over again. ptmr3, still my idol!!!
I also flashed the MK7 modem. Haven't really noticed a vast improvement..and it also didn't deliver some of my calls and went straight to vm. But hoping it makes a difference as its used more throughout the day. .
To all people having problems,
I personally had to flash the deodexed rom about 3 times before the problems got fixed. First time camera wasn't working but I read somewhere that when first on stock taker pictures and then update the kernel. Second it was super sluggish...barely moving. Third time everything worked fine and have yet to come across and problems.
Just remember to keep erasing cache and dalvik after every flash/step.

Man people, I'm sorry for all of you. I received it while using tweaked but could not flash it so I went back to stock image using Mobile odin and triangle away. After going complete stock I received the update again then went ahead and installed it using the stock recovery. I gave up root because I'm impatient and couldn't wait 24 hours until the rooted version came along and the only thing I miss is viper audio and cerebus. So I went the stock route and after it booted up, I signed in to my Google account and soon as the home screen came up I did a factory rest and haven't had 1 hiccup. The phone is fast as hell, the battery is about the same, my 4glte even seems faster than before when browsing using the stock browser, not chrome. The keyboard is great now as well as camera, and nothing bets the apps to sd. So in conclusion do a factory rest and forget about root IF you want all to run flawless. I'm sure there will be a way to regain root again. Happy flashing.......stock style.

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to try this and see if it fixes the freeze ups.
Ok, so I'm not new to Samsungs and I'm not new to modding, but the Note 2 is different from any experience I've ever had. I've had a SGS2, SGS Blaze 4G, two different SGS3's (i747 and i9300), and now the i317.
So, here's the issue. I got the phone off Swappa and it was pre-rooted with a custom recovery already. So it really wasn't much to upgrade to TWRP 2.7 and flash CM11. All's good for the next two weeks. Enter stage left: busted USB cable.
I come home from work yesterday to find my dog chewed my charger. I have more at work, doesn't help me at home (45 minute commute). Naturally, seeing as how I haven't charged in a couple days, it died.
Got to work this morning, plugged it into the charger aaaannnddd nada. No charge. I figure, "I remember reading about this in the DN3 thread!" So I borrow the battery out of my coworker's N2 and he charges mine while I use his to flash. And my hunt for bootloaders begins.
I've flashed:
GN2_N7105_(4.3_MK5_permissive_kernel).zip (as suggested in the DN3 thread): no dice.
cwm-i317-ucucne5-modem.zip: again, no dice.
A couple others, I did have about 50 tabs open on my browser, and I've lost track of what I actively have installed.
With each one of those, I checked my Build Info with Android System Info, and it reports my bootloader is I317UCAMA4
I've even tried flashing a couple kernels, including AGNi_pureSTOCK-v4.2.4_N7105_4.4.2_AROMA-signed.zip and cwm-i317-ucucne5-kernel.zip (which coincidentally makes android.process.media and com.android.dialer crash consistently), and still nothing. This is the problem with a device that has a bunch of variations: information overload.
So, I ask the community for help.
What I want: TWRP / CM11 to function optimally and to charge while powered off.
What I need: the proper kernel and bootloader, preferably in a recovery-flashable format, but I'm not too shy to Odin if necessary.
Thanks in advance for your help
re: charging problems
I have two I317's. One has the 4.1.2 bootloader and one has the 4.4.2 bootloader.
4.1.2 bootloader- if I install a 4.4.2 rom, it turns the phone on if I plug in the charging cable. It won't stay off while charging. The charging works normally with 4.3 roms. I also tried this with the MJ4 (4.3?) bootloader.
4.4.2 bootloader- if I install a 4.3 rom and try to charge it with the phone turned off, it hangs on the empty battery charging symbol and cannot be turned on without a battery pull. The charging works normally with a 4.4.2 rom.
For my two phones and 4.4.2, the rom has to match the bootloader for charging to work properly.

That makes sense. Would you mind linking me to a 4.4 bootloader? I've searched all up and down and no matter what I flash, my bootloader stays at UCAMA4.

Just be warned...I don't think that you can revert back if you flash the 4.4.2 bootloader. You are stuck with it until something newer comes out.

I'm pretty much an avid CM'er. That's one requirement I make to buying a phone, unless I buy at launch (which doesn't happen very often). Does it have official CM support. But I do appreciate the heads up.

By the way, thanks for all your help, peoples. I plan on viewing every single thread over the course of the next few weeks (or months, depends on how my classes get) and writing a SGN2 Bible (kind of like what we did over at the Galaxy S Blaze forums). I cant say I'll read them all, but hopefully, I can sift through all the hundreds of pages of threads in a timely manner.

You can flash everything in PDA, including boot loaders. When you flash a single tar with the full firmware in PDA, it contains everything, even kernel and modem and etc.
The reason for all the slots is that some firmware distributions come with separate tar files for each part, and you can still flash them all together.
