I unlocked my bootloader a while ago and have been running PecanCM's version of CyanogenMod 11, i just tried a different sim but its still carrier locked. Does this mean i still have to purchase an unlock code?
Bootloader unlocking doesn't sim-unlock your phone.

hey guys, ive been reading a few places and read that you need to unlock the Bootloader to unlock the phone, is that true or can you unlock it using a Code? I plan to buy this phone soon and would probably end up using overseas hence the questions. Thanks
What do you mean by unlock the phone?
If you mean to root it, then no, you do not have to unlock the boot loader.
If on the other hand you mean unlock a phone from a specific carrier, then I truly do not know... bought my own phone carrier free.
[EDIT]
And now I saw that you will be using it while traveling overseas, so I suppose you mean unlock the phone from a specific carrier
[/EDIT]

Network unlock, since i will be buying it from AT&T
thanks
The only way to unlock a usa phone (verizon or att) right now its through Alejandrissimo over in the general forums (I think...)
I don't know if once you unlock the bootloader it can change carriers...

In my case I sim unlock my phone w/o unlocking my bootloader. I dunno in r800x & r800at.. But as pax said, you can try to contact Blagus or Alejandrissimo.
You can both sim unlock without unlocking the bootloader (with a code you can buy online) or unlock both Sim and bootloader at the same time thanks to Alejandrissimo.
I'm kinda new to Xperia Play, I'm a proud owner of a Xperia Arc.
Nevertheless, the Play in question is Rogers sim-locked, I'm from Brazil, and I want to use a "Vivo" sim on the phone.
My question is: If I simply flash a default firmware via flashtool on my Play, I'll be able to use another carrier sim or i'll need to pay for the unlock code in a third-party site.
Thanks in advance.
You'll need the unlock code, flashing firmware wont help you. However you could also opt to get your bootloader unlocked instead which will also sim unlock for you. The difference is a sim unlock will cost about $12ish whereas bootloader is closer to $24ish. However with an unlocked bootloader you can run unsigned kernels allowing you to overclock, undervolt, easily root, install custom ROMs and more. If that all means nothing to you just do the sim unlock, just giving you the options.

is there ANY way that xperia arc s newer then 12w19 can be sim unlocked??
Purchasing code or..??
Can cellunlocker unlock it?
Atm no, I think.

If you're not locked to any carrier, I don't see any reason why not.
Have you tried the official Sony unlock method? Your other option is via the testpoint method.

My bad, I didn't wrote sim locked..
It's carrier locked, and sim-lock is there for 24 months, the problem is I bought it in another country and in my country that carrier doesn't exist..
So the question is edited, can it be sim-unlocked (bootloader is irrelevant)
Then you'll need to use the Testpoint method. Contact Jinx13 or Alejandrissimo. They should be able to unlock it for you remotely for a small fee. Or use Omnius (again Paid).
And no, there's no free method to unlock your phone. But trust me, it's worth it.
Hope that helped. Cheers!
I already did contact jinx and he told me that if it's 12w14 or newer he can't unlock it :S
I'm not looking for a free method, I'm looking for a working method...
Off topic: Is it worth upgrading to ICS?
Damn, then you may be out of luck. Do ask around though.
And upgrading to ICS. Well, I have upgraded to the Generic Global World 4.0.4 and I must say I like it. My only issue is that my touchscreen isn't AS responsive as it was on GB.
There are others who couldn't/can't stand ICS and reverted back to GB after a few days with ICS. They felt that it lagged too much compared to GB etc etc.
To each his own. But I like ICS; that's just my opinion.
Cheers!
is there ANY other way?
is there anyone that has Emma and a working account and can remove the sim lock?
Also can these pay sites unlock it?
maybe fastgsm
I was looking for the exact same thing and found that fastgsm.com can unlock it with network codes.
It seems that we cannot currently unlock this phone model with our data cable method if the manufacturing date is later than 12W13, please contact [email protected] and ask for a refund. It would be possible to unlock this phone via Network codes, if there are unlock attempts left, for $59.99.

Good day to everyone and sorry to revive this thread, but i didn't want to ask a question that's been asked before so while searching the forums for cellunlocker.net i found this thread.
Is there anybody out there who got their arc S(new security manufacturing date 12w26) unlocked by purchasing the code via IMEI method for 39,99$?

There is no known solution for disabled fastboot cases yet (Bootloader unlock allowed: No), as phones manufactured after 12W11 have enchanced type of security, for which there is no exploit yet.

It might remove the SIM-lock (I am not sure, which code you mean right now), but it will not enable fastboot and will not allow bootloader to be unlocked.

Would you at least bother mentioning your methods for this? Considering you haven't been around on this forum for long, I doubt any of your methods actually unlocks the bootloader.

Hi,
Thanks, i see there: http://www.fastgsm.com/en/sonyerics...-unlock-codes/network-unlock/flashing-debrand
Unlock codes. I read a lot, and i figured out that Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No means that fastboot disabled due to simlock..so if there's no simlock on the phone, the no changes to YES, so can unlock simply..If unlock allowed YES, then everyone successfully unlocked the bootloader in this forums. Am i wrong somewhere?

It does remove the SIM-lock, but fastboot is still disabled. Removing the SIM-lock does not activate fastboot nor does it change Bootloader Unlock Allowed to Yes.
Hi all,
See this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2737846
I just entered this code
*#*#7378423#*#* on the dialer, and I can't unlock the bootloader

I think the date 12w28 is currently an issue to unlock with the TestPoint method from what I've read.

that's what i thought.
Is there a dev team anyone knows of who work especially on hacking sonyericsson(now sony) handsets just like the ios dev team for the iphone-ipad family?
it would be refreshing to know if there is effort being put into that or to get tweets indicating process, i don't mean to be rude here just asking out of curiosity. Got my arc s for 3 months now and still can't use it with a sim card. And returning the phone is no option for me cause i bought it abroad thinking a new unlock is due date.
hi
just got an Xperia S noticed that its sim free but the bootloader unlock statue is not allowed on the service menu, any thoughts guys?
Bootloader and SIM unlock are two entirely different things. SIM unlock just allows the use of different carriers while bootloader unlock allows for changing system files otherwise locked from being accessed or changed and stops the use of fast boot.

I bought it used, I thought as long as it is sim free, it was bought contract free so it should be factory bootloader unlocked. How to enter fastboot mode anyway ?

If it was baught from a mobile carrier , most likely , it had been simlocked and the user either sim-unlocked by himself or from carrier... then it could be bootloader not unlockable... check by entering *#*#7378423#*#*.
im having the same issue... i will call the carrier to see if i can send to hell the warranty a little bit..
