[Q] [HELP] cm11 set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed status 7 - Sprint LG Optimus G

When I tried updating my cm10 to cm11, I got this error message:
Code:
set_metadata_recursive some changes failed
Error in : (the zip location)
(status 7)
This always happens when I try to update to cm11, and even when wiping my data and flashing it it gives the same error.
This is with cm11 snapshot m2 (can't post the URL cause under 10 posts, but its the official snapshot for ls970)
This has never happened before, and no matter what I do or what version of cm11 I choose, the flash fails.
It works just fine for cm10.2
Anyone have a fix?

Have you tried using the new KK recoveries? You can find them in the TWRP thread or in the Root Guide under working recoveries.
It might be a bad DL too.

Yeah if you were on the old recovery the updater-script for cm10.2 uses 'set_perm_recursive', but 4.4 based roms like cm11 use 'set_metadata_recursive' and the old recoveries have no idea what it means.

Cm 7 build 40?

I just flashed the latest nightly never had install probs. Used latest clockwork and when I go to flash I get an error that says failed to load boot.img and status 7 installation aborted. Any help to fix this? Thanks

Nightly 40 seems to be broken, most people can't download/install it.

CM9 won't flash

I\ve downloaded the d2att CM9 zip file transfered to sd card, factory wiped then tried to install zip from sd card but keep getting the error after it starts installing update
"assert failed: get prop ("ra.product.device) =="d2att get prop (ra.build.product == "d2att E:error in sd card/cm-9-20120722-nightly -d2att.zip (status 7) install aborted
Any suggestions?
Are you using the right recovery?

I had to buy the new Rom manager on the playstore and flash my first nightly through there.
Otherwise you have to change some lines of code.
It's discussed in the T-Mobile cm9 nightly thread.

Make sure you downloaded the right version for your device; that's a buildprop error saying the device you're flashing to doesn't match the buildprop inside the file.

[Q] Status 7 Error, read threads didn't help

First off I want to say I have actually searched and read every thread imaginable.
Basically every time I try to flash a new rom (Tried 4 now) I get the error status 7.
This is not my first root and rom flash either, I've done 2 tablets and 5 phones all without issue.
I have tried TWRP, cwm 5.5, CWM 6.0.1.2 and i get the same error.
I have gone through the roms and deleted the first line, same error.
I have wiped data/reset.
I have tried ics and jb roms.
I have tried THREE different rooting methods.
Nothing but stock works... Please help!!!!
Edit: Forgot too add in that Rom Manager does not recognize what phone I am or that I already have CWM, as well same with goo manager and twrp.
I am Telus BTW
Thanks in advance!
Have you checked your build.prop? Error 7 is usually a build.prop error,iirc.
Try cwm touch

[Q] Flash Failed: Status 7
I installed cwm v6 and it allows me to avoid the error and installed cm10.
If you use the other recovery versions, it seems you have to change the build.prop to d2att from d2can. Shame as I like twrp.
One of those things that isn't really clear or written about for those of us that haven't gone through it. For those that know it's an obvious thing.
I won't forget it now.....

Error 7

Hi guys how come evertime I try to install a custom rom its gives me the Error 7 (Status 7 Error). Have anyone encountered this before? How do I fix it? I tried updating my CWM but still, nothing works, I tried to install Cyanogenmod 10.1 and DarthStalker but it gives me that error. Help please, Thanks in advance
What version of CWM are you using? Number, please.
Do you currently have a ROM on the phone? If you go into About phone from the system settings, what phone model does it say you have?
Its says I have SGH-T999

Are you updating CWM with ROM Manager?
Factory reset, wipe cache, and you should be able to install any ROM without any issues.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Yes I updated my CWM using Rom Manager

I've had this happen many many times. Check the MD5. Its more than likely a bad download. Try re downloading it again.
Try transferring the download from PC to your phone. And try to flash again.

Most likely you tried to flash some rom which was not 100% compatible with your phone.
If you can get into CWM or TWRP recovery just do a factory reset/wipe cache/wipe dalvik cache.
Do NOT wipe or format SYSTEM . This should allow your phone to boot completly.
Be sure NOT to try flashing the same rom which gave you the error 7.
If you are still having problems then continue reading...
If you have a cwm/twrp backup (nandroid) of your previous rom go back into cwm or twrp
and restore your nandroid backup.
If you don't have a nandroid backup but you do have a proper zip file custom rom saved to your sdcard
then you can flash the rom making sure you first do a factory reset/wipe cache/dalvik and system.
After that you can start over again but be sure to make a nandroid backup first.
If you still have problems after doing the above you will need to ODIN flash the stock-rooted
Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 Jellybean v4.1.1 firmware.
P.S. You would NEVER get an ERROR 7 if you would only flash stock based "Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 Jellybean v4.1.1 custom roms"
instead of those CM/AOKP/AOSP or Ported roms.
Good Luck!

First of all, make sure that you redownload the ROM, check that the MD5's match, and that you are indeed on the latest CWM recovery.
Secondly, I've heard of these status 7 errors, even when on the latest CWM recovery. There's times when installing certain ROMs where these errors occur, which usually happens when the ROM’s updater script file checks to see if the phone model of your phone is compatible with the ROM you are installing and this portion of the script are called “asserts”. with this it prevents you from accidentally flashing a ROM intended for a different model.
Normally you can fix the issue by installing TWRP recovery but there's another possible solution for this if the TWRP method doesn't solve it but take some serious precaution. You need to be very careful and do this at your own risk.
Follow this step by step guide
http://highonandroid.com/android-roms/how-to-fix-status-7-error-with-cwm-recovery-on-rooted-android/
Following this will remove the asserts thus removing protection upon flashing the wrong ROM. Do if you choose to follow this make absolutely sure that the ROM you're flashing is for the T999.

Status 7 errors can very well still occur through CWM recovery on stock based ROMs.. It mostly all depends on the ROMs updater script and if the dev accidentally made an error within that, which is why the asserts would normally correct that error by forcing the ROM to be flashed regardless.

Everyone, Thanks for helping me out, I flash back to stock firmware, I found out that I rooted my phone the wrong way (Qbking's Video). I tried rerooting but I used a different method and updated CWM, now works completely fine, Thanks for all your help!!:thumbup:
