Has anyone tried Bluetooth tethering? Since QPair doesn't seen to want to work with my AT&T LG Optimus G Pro for Wi-Fi tethering, I tried out Bluetooth tethering. I enabled Bluetooth tethering in Settings > Tethering & Networks. In the Bluetooth settings on the G Pad I connect to the phone for Internet access. I have Wi-Fi turned off on the tablet and the phone. The phone has a strong LTE connection.
I ran the Speedtest.net app and I got 1.8 Mbps down and 1.5 Mbps up. That sounds about right for Bluetooth. I can open Chrome and browse to web sites just fine. I can access Facebook and Twitter with the apps. The Weather Channel app works fine.
If I open email it says "Network is unavailable. Please try again later." I noticed it does this when trying to sync my mailboxes that use ActiveSync. It connects fine for a mailbox that uses IMAP.
Has anyone else seen this? If so, does anyone have a fix?

I've got an EVO running CM6 stable with android-wireless-tether (pre7). I am able to pair/connect to my home PC by setting up a bluetooth PAN in Windows 7. I right click on my device, choose "Connect > Access Point" and it says "Connection Successful". The only thing I get now is "Identifying..." until I am stuck with the good ol' 169.xx... IP address.
I checked the log for the wireless tether app, and it shows:
Enabling NAT rules... done
Enabling IP forwarding... done
Tethering now running... done
error: SIOCSIFFLAGS (Cannot assign requested address)
I've done a little research on the error and tried a few suggestions (rebuild binary/config files, changing the default LAN IP in awt settings) to no avail.
I also tried disabling WiFi and just attempting to share the 3G connection which still isn't working out (same error). Can anyone help me out with this one? I've also tried awt pre8 with the same results.
I had same setup and problem. Started the supper user app and quit app. Powered down phone restarted phone. After restart WiFi tether worked fine. Don't know why .

Just turn on wireless teather and the go to access conections fine androidap and connect to that. Why do you have to use blue tooth am I missing something? Wireless teather is in the settings with CM6 so you dont need an extra app for teather?
Thanks for the suggestions. I tried opening/closing SU app and rebooting, got the same result.
The reason why I am doing it this way is because I have a PC with only a network card (not WiFi). It's about 30/40 ft. from my router. Rather than buying a wireless card or some cable, I'm connecting via bluetooth and sharing my phones WiFi connection.
I understand if I had a WiFi adapter I could just use the built in Hotspot feature, but if I had WiFi, I would rather connect directly to the router.
I'm definitely interested in this too. At work, we have a no-wireless router policy, and I don't really feel like firing it up and have a guy holding a Fluke wireless network analyzer come and find me.
Bluetooth is alright for what I need. Seems to almost be a kernel issue or something. Worked *perfectly* with my N1, even with pre8. The EVO with CM6 stable isnt working. Just as a note, the wifi portion works correctly.
Actually let me rephrase : The bluetooth section does work, I believe there might be an issue related to the dnsmasq dhcp server not being able to serve IPs. The 'Upload' section of the information panel changes, the Green Download section stays 0.00. The client never receives an IP address, and thats about it.
Logcat didnt really show me much of anything critical error-wise, I'm really hoping that I can downgrade/upgrade a kernel in order to support whatever hardware changes there were between the N1 and the EVO.
I checked the wireless router wifi mode, and it no longer works either. 'Started with errors' is what I get now when in the wifi mode. The built-android wireless tether works fine, but I either wish I could hide the ESSID or have a bluetooth option available.
It *seems* related to the kernel, but logcat doesnt mention anything about not being able to load a module, and the wifi-tether app doesnt have a txt log, or does it?
I am still on a grandfathered plan and would like to keep it.
When I connect to my work network, it routes all traffic... Vpn and random Internet traffic through the vpn tunnel..
If i tether while I'm connected to my vpn, can att detect it? I would think not since it's encrypted?? Or is there something I'm missing?
I'm worried that tethering would force it to use atts gateway/ip instead of the vpn.
Does anybody know?
Thank you!

guess i'll find out...
couldn't get wifi tethering working.. anytime i enabled it 'settings' would FC (maybe because i froze tethering provision apk?
so i tried foxfi - and that wifi tether would turn on - but it would change the routing tables of my vpn.. and use normal 4g/att internet
but i have bluetooth on my laptop!
connected to vpn on phone, enabled bluetooth DUN on foxfi - and on my pc when i check my ip on third party websites (i.e nwtools.com) , it shows the IP of my VPN....
so far so good, i hope they can't see this traffic.

I have an Optimus G on Sprint with the following software versions:
Android 4.1.2, kernel 3.4.0, Build JZO54K, Software LS970ZVB
My previous phone was an HTC Evo 4G that was trouble-free with root and wifi tether used daily for two and a half years until it fell in a toilet.
This Optimus is rooted (all stock, just root) and the TrevE Mod version of WiFi tether is installed. The tether SSID is visible and it will connect and give an IP address but there is no internet connection. I have tried various settings of device profile, routing fix, mss clamping and driver reload, it simply doesn't work. The Wifi tether requires the phone to be restarted if it is stopped. I could live with that, but it is useless without internet connectivity.
Giving up on the WiFi tether, I tried the simplest USB tether that I am aware of, easytether. I have used easytether on other phones without any problems. On my Optimus G, easytether establishes a connection and internet works for a minute or two, then stops and my computer network icon gets the yellow triangle with "no internet access" message. This can be repeated over and over. Disconnect, reconnect, two minutes of internet, then stop.
This is very frustrating. I would absolutely love this phone if some form of tether would function.
If anyone has any suggestions or prior experience with this issue, your help is appreciated.

I read up on this issue a few times.. Here's what I gathered if you haven't found the solution yet...
Use WiFi Tether for Root Users
Device Profile: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
MMS Clamping: Check
Routing Fix: Check
Let me know if that works.. If not I can post the rest of my settings.
Good Luck!

Did the following:
Device Profile: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
MMS Clamping: Check
Routing Fix: Check
Still not working for me. Other rooted apps do work
Sprint Optimus G here
Try this profile it works

Ive searched the web and read about countless issues about lollipop wifi. but im looking for something specific which i cannot find elsewhere:
on KitKat when connecting to a hotspot (or any wifi for that matter) it would instantly connect to wifi and switch to that connection, regardless if the connection gave internet access or not.
on LP it seems to remain connected to mobile data and wifi does not give an IP address until a hotspot is logged in (using the sign in to wifi notification)
the problem is it doesnt always show, is there a way to switch the wifi policy to not perform a soft handover? or does this need to be baked into a rom?
I have an app that auto-logs into wifi hotspots for me, but because it does not get an IP address and apps are not able to use that connection, it does not work as intended.
FYI i am NOT talking about wifi to mobile data handover, its the other way around
I did the OTA update to 5.0.2 a couple of weeks ago on my Nexus 7 2013 LTE.
One change in network behaviour is annoying but I'm wondering if there is a setting I am missing.
I have a WD Passport Wireless and I carry my music around on it. It acts as wireless hotspot and a DNLA media server - running Twonky - and until now I have used Bubble UPNP to stream music. Since 5.0.2 the WiFi will fail to get/ask for a DHCP IP and continue to use the 4G connection while showing a "!" on the WiFi.
If I remove the WiFi profile and re-add then it works - continues to show the "!" for bad internet connection but does get an IP and streams OK - while, as a bonus I still get Internet via the 4G link. As soon as I come off the private WiFi, e.g. when I get to home or work and turn the Passport off, next time the Nexus will again not get an IP for the WiFi connection.
The lack of IP is via the WiFi -> Advanced menu and it shows the MAC but under IP Address: "Unavailable"
I have tried this when underground with no 4G coverage and it seems to then work. So, it seems to be too clever in (not) moving off the 4G.
I have tried a static IP and it doesn't work.
I noticed a toggle for "Aggressive WiFi to mobile handover" in the developer options but neither setting makes much difference
My 4.4.2 Samsung Note 2 continues to work fine, so it's not the WD hotspot
All stock, un-rooted with just dev menus enabled.
Anyone got any suggestions / ideas?
* I am now trying a full factory reset, just in case - as I didn't when I got the OTA and it feels sluggish anyhow.
