Try HERE. I suggest you read 1st couple of pages. I think JDSingle's ROMS on that thread are stock and have been modified for you. Also you will need root and modified recovery from HERE. If your wanting to use phone on a different carrier, your gonna have to unlock phone, totally different than changing roms, but you wil still need to be rooted and have custom recovery that I linked above. Read HERE for unlocking. ALSO Im not 100% sure this method will work as thread is for unlocking the Sprint version. Ask in that thread.

[Q] Is there a way to root using a different carrier's stock image?

I have the Samsung Galaxy S3 (T-Mobile) and it includes all the unneccesary carrier bloatware. Since I'm not a T-Mobile customer, I would prefer not to have all the extra T-Mobile applications, so I was wondering when rooting with Odin 3, instead of using T-Mobiles stock image, can I possibly use a different carriers, like WIND Mobile.
The instructions I got were from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1771687
When I tried using the WIND image on my T-Mobile device, rooting fails!
Any suggestions?

Never use another carrier's ROM unless it specifically states it will work with another carrier. What you need to do is root with the official T-Mobile image that has root/super user injected into it.
Once you are done with that, get Titanium Backup free version from the market and uninstall what you don't want.
Use this thread which is in the Android Development forum for T-Mo: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687
That is the thread I started with when I rooted my T-Mo S3.
Technically what you're trying to do can be done. As said above, you shouldnt flash another carriers rom as the bootloaders and modem would most likely brick if the flash was successful(although i think odin checks this and the flash would fail anyway).
That said the system+kernel alone would be ok to flash. I actually have a package made just for this purpose posted here. See if that does what you want. Only thing is it was made for someone on moblicity although from what i remember the system was the same for both wind and moblicity(no branding or carrier specific apps). I can do this with WIND if need be just shoot a PM.

[Q] TMO GS3 : Will unlock go away if updated or installed 4.2.2 rom?

I've galaxy s3 for tmobile and it is currently on 4.1.1 T999UVDLJA.
I followed this method to unlock it and right now I am using the phone on H2OWireless (MVNO on AT&T network), everything is working fine (not tested data plan yet).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34661189&postcount=1
Now my question is if I upgrade the OS in future to say stock from TMO 4.1.2 (when they release) or non-stock 4.2.2 rom then will my unlock go away or it is factory unlocked now?

No, once your phone is unlocked it stays that way regardless of flashing any roms.
Flashing roms has no effect on the locked or unlocked status of the phone.
Even a OTA update has no effect on the locked or unlocked status of the phone.

Are you sure? Because this is different method than entering an unlocked provider by service provider. I just want to make sure before I step out of 4.1.1. And again it's possible to move back to stock right? Is there anything like iphone where you must have SHA BLOBS to get back to a specific version? I am an iphone guy and getting first time handson android phone litterally!
I tried getting one from tmobile but since I am not a tmobile customer the refused.

Yes you can go back to the stock rom by Odin flashing your phone at any time.
Doing that has no effect on the phone's locked or unlocked status.
Sorry I have no idea about the iphone's BLOBS

Can you help or direct me to any link on this forum which lists all custom ROMs for TMO GS3 please.
And if possible in your opinion which would be the best? (I know it's wide scope question but if you can help that would be great )

Here is a link for a lot of Tmobile custom roms. Any of the custom roms there will work with a
Tmobile S3 locked or unlocked phone or a AT&T S3 unlocked phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1645
My personal preference for custom rom is the "Wicked v9.1" rom.
In my opinion after flashing all other custom roms for Tmobile T999 phones the "Wicked v9.1"
custom rom is clearly the best rom which is currently available for our phones.
It's not only the most trouble free & reliable custom rom but cosmetically speaking it looks like a retail commercial product.
I would recommend that you flash that first, check out all it's features and options carefully then make a nandroid backup.
Here is the link to the Wicked v9.1 custom rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804260
After doing that flash a lot of the other roms which are available and check those out so you can have a better idea
as to what the differences are after doing a lot of comparing.
Good Luck!

[Q] SGH-i747M rom on SGH-i747

Hey guys.. I'm new to this forum and to flashing ROMs and all that so I need your help..
I used the search option and didn't find a clear answer to this..
I have bought about a month ago an at&t SGS3 SGH-i747 and I am not very happy with the current OS (android 4.1.1 at&t stock ROM) and I want to upgrade it to 4.1.2. After searching google a bit i found out that there IS an official 4.1.2 android from at&t for my device and wherever I go they say to go to settings, about device, software update and update my phone from there but it says that there is no update.
I have searched for a ROM on sammobile and only found a 4.0.4 ROM for my phone.
However, I found out that there is a 4.1.2 ROM for SGS3 SGH-i747M, and some people say that their ROMs will work on my device and some say they won't.
Can someone tell me, if I install a Rogers (for example) i747M ROM on my device will it work without problem? I don't want to stay with the at&t ROM because it has too many limitations on them.
I prefer not to install custom ROMs because they are all a bit unstable..
Sorry if I have bad English, tried my best..
First off an (att) rom will work with a (rogers) phone. I'm using one right now.
Secondly, if you do manage to install a (rogers) rom on your s3 it will probably be missing apn settings and you'll have rogers apps.
Lastly, through my experience with custom roms, I have found that they are far more stable then stock, if you're looking for a good custom touchwiz rom. Look at hyperdrive

What you are describing on Sammobile are the stock firmwares that are flashed through a program called Odin. If you tried flashing a Rogers image, you could potentially brick your phone, or as the user above said, there would be a lot of issues since that is not the firmware for AT&T. Are you rooted? If you are, that is what is causing the upgrade issue, since you have to be 100% stock.

Thanks for your answer. Well, if you say that custom roms are more stable than stock, I won't argue. Just some friends told me otherwise.
I'll try to find a good rom that suits me.
Btw, I don't care if ill have Rogers apps or AT&T apps, they are both useless to me. I just don't want to brick my phone.

I didn't flash a Rogers rom because I couldn't find a clear answer that says that it will not brick my phone. I just seen some people ask about it and didn't get an answer either. I have tried to unroot and flash a stock rom from "samsung-updates.com", a 4.1.1. Its the same as the one that I already had. Still, no update available.

If you flash a ODIN package for rogers on an AT&T phone you may brick it due to bootloader and modem
if you flash a custom zip based on an AT&T rom from XDA you won't brick since they don't contain bootloader or a modem
hope this helps

Just because someone else is going to find this thread and start getting ideas...
NO!!!!
No one should EVER do this. Never flash a modem that was not SPECIFICALLY made for your SPECIFIC device.

Ok so tell me please what you mean? Do you mean specific device hardware or ???
Because the only difference I see in the 2 phones, At&t S4 and T-Mobile S4 is all in the software for modem and rom. They are 100% identicle in hardware, even being factory set for bands both carriers use. I would never attempt this on Verizon or Sprint S$'s lol - but I am cinfused other than a different modem bin file and different rom, and different model number since its 2 diff companies, what is the difference?
I am confused.
If I cannot do what I noted, then how does one use an at&t phone on a t-mobile network? I am great at flashing modems, roms, recoveries - but my 1st time switching carriers on an exact same model phone. The phone itself is same model far as samsung makes it - only changes to different model when its branded at&t ot t-mobile and uses that companies rom and mode,m files. But isnt the hardware the exact same both places and couldn't the rom and modem files be swapped to allow it to work on the other one's system?
Please help what I need to do - if I cannot do what I asked about then what?

If the two phones ATT i337 and Tmobile M919 were as identical as you say they are and even use the same bands then
why is the gsm baseband (modem.bin) and the lte modem (non-hlos.bin) different enough not to be interchangeable?
Not even the STOCK 4.3 firmware or any of the zipfile custom roms here in xda are not identical enough
so we would not need to have two different and separate forums for these two phones.
First thing you need to do is to get your phone on the Tmobile network is to unlock it or have it unlocked.
Then you need to get a tmobile sim card and root the phone if it's not already rooted.
You will also need to flash cf-autoroot to root the phone and then flash a custom recovery like cwm or twrp.
Then last but not least you will need to flash a Tmobile custom rom from the Tmobile M919 forum.
None of the custom roms found here in xda contain modem.bin or hlos-bin images.
Those you already have in your phone will work fine even though they are NOT identical.
The two .bin images are setup so the two networks can establish GSM and LTE communications
between your phone and their towers using different bands and different frequencies.
Good luck.

Thanks Got her phone working ok. So the key was if unlocked, the at&t phone will work on t-mobile even with an at&t modem file on it I knew the 2 companies could be used on the other's network just did not know the modem file works both ways if unlocked. I assumed the hardware is the same on both phones so just flash a tmobile modem lol - I learned I was wrong thanks for ur help. Years of rooting and never had an issue with using one carrier on another carrier's network, was my 1st time
Thanks a lot for your help. Its working great now!

Welcome to the forum! Would you recall what Android version you were on prior to flashing the custom ROM? Ideally you would want to return to the same version in order not to risk a brick. You can also check your phone settings and see what the firmware parameters are. If your baseband says UCUEMJB, then you would have to go to 4.3 but if it's UCDLK3, then you could go to 4.1.1 or 4.3. Flashing a complete stock image should install the basic AT&T apps and settings. Anything else, you can add from the Play Store
