Flashed my first ROM in over a year, and on my Note 3 no less. Any who I took the plunge into the Temasek custom build (for T-Mobile) and I am not into the new style of Android. So I wanted to ask, is this the direction Kit Kat is going? Or is it CM 11? Or is it just specific to the custom Temasek build?
I ran CM 7 long ago on my HTC G2 and that's more along the lines of what I'm looking for. I love features, functionality and most of all, practicality. I'm less into that flashy stuff. Anyone got any recommended ROMs I should try next?

Same with me... I used to love AOKP on my Nexus 4, I tried it on note 3, tried CM11 and I wasn't impressed at all. Lot of options missing. Looks like you need TweakedN3. I love it and developer is a great guy always here to help.
I went with JEDI. Amazing. Amazing features. So smooth. Battery life. Daily driver for about 2 weeks now and don't see that changing anytime soon

With the note, it really makes sense to stock with a stick based ROM so that you will have all the good features Samsung has made.

I agree--I can't quite put my finger on what's different/missing from CM11, but so far, I am a little bored of it.
Yeah I used CM 10.1 on my old Bionic and it was great over the Moto Blur skin and such but now that I have had the S4 and now the Note 3. I have become a fan of TW features, though not all of them. As for the Note 3, personally I don't see why one would get a Note 3 and then go AOSP and lose the SPen and MultiWindow features. I mean it's faster with more ram but i think it's a waste to buy a phone that's made for the features and then take away 80-90% of the features and kinda neuter the phone. I didn't like AOSP on my S4 either but i can see people going ASOP on the S4 more so then the Note 3.

The biggest bonus in aosp history for most people I would say is the ability of theme engine, surprising for me, this is also the first time I've ever had a phone aosp capable and switch back to tw ROM every other weekend or so. Maybe it is googles doing but it does seem something is missing from newer aosp Roms. I'd say gingerbread was my favorite android os update ever. I'm currently running aosp right now but still restless as if something's missing. Then when I switch back to touchwiz, it feels awesome but the lack of easily theming it makes me go back to aosp. FML lol I feel like a woman right now

Actually, I think I would be okay giving up most of TouchWiz and Pen features.
I have only been using the phone for about 2 days, but I am not in love with S-Finder, S-Voice, etc.
Mutli-window is great, but it's limited to a small selection of apps.
Pen input is great, but I can apparently do that with Papyrus.
For me, I think i'd be happy with a "Stock + some Pen" experience as opposed to the full Samsung thing.
But like I said, i've only just started with the phone, and I havent even begun looking at alternate ROMs.

I felt the same way about stock. If your going to CM and are going to trip KNOX anyways go and flash TWEAKED. It is solid and allows all applications for multi and pen Window modes. Easily a fantastic feature

Yeah, that was my point i guess. Why buy the Note 3 only to lose all the pen functions? Any ROM that would allow me to keep the pen functions I'm good to try out, but I just wouldn't do AOSP anymore with this type of phone. Plus I agree with the OP, AOSP seems boring anymore.
Last night I finally downloaded the huge 1.2 GB Jedi ROM. About to flash it in a bit.

Becauuuse, for 1,000,000th time: Not everyone uses the gimmicky Touchwhiz pen features. Scrapbook? What's that? SPen search... huh? I pull my pen out MAYBE once every two weeks to sketch something, and I can still do that in CM11 without "SNote", by using Sketchbook, Papyrus, and many other apps, with pressure sensitivity too. You can even get a "touchwhiz-like" popup and pen-removed-notification/vibration when you pull the pen out if you use the Note Buddy & CM SPen apps.
And what's boring about AOSP / CyanogenMod?
- The increased speed and reduced bloat?
- Security holes plugged WAY before carrier updates?
- Configurable Quicktiles?
- Built-in Wireless ADB, LED Flashlight, and other misc features
- Free WiFi Tethering?
- More reliable WiFi connections (TW always says "Your WiFi is Unstable")
- Quiet Hours
- THEMABILTY
- And all the other stuff I'm forgetting because I take it for granted now...
The only thing I miss about TW is the better reliability (CM crashes about once a day - to be expected this early), and the slightly better camera quality (CM AOSP camera pics have a bit more ISO noise in low light. Samsung probably uses s/w to remove it and/or longer shutter speeds)

I think what you're missing is that you would not necessarily lose all the pen features. It seems like there are apps that will restore at least some of the pen features, which might end up being all I want.
I'm still in the honeymoon phase of using the phone, though, so I don't know yet how much the touchwiz features will end up mattering to me.

I had flashed the Gummy 4.4.2 ROM on my Note 3 but some of the bugs..umm..bugged me too much. So I flashed CM 11 by Temasek and I love it. It runs fantastic for me and I have no complaints.
I also don't care about the SPen. I took it out and used it for about 5 minutes when I first got the phone and haven't touched it since. I got the Note 3 when I switched to T-Mobile for the screen size mostly.

I think you're missing the point, nvm don't worry about it. It's not worth going back and forth.
As far as CM/AOSP... The Note 3 is lag free, bloat free once rooted, I'm Deodexed so i can theme if i choose, i have free wifi tethering native now, my wifi connection is never unstable (though i have a new modem and router at home). You lose wifi calling if you need it. Quiet hours is basically the same as blocking mode. Security patches i will give you, though I'm sure they don't patch all of them.
I'm just happy to have a choice. No point saying one is better than the other. We all just choose what he like and what suits our needs the best.
Man I'm loving the Jedi rom! Quick question though. I installed the 5x6 launcher and I think I'd prefer the 5x5. Is there any way to install the 5x5 without starting from the beginning flashing?

If you only use the s-pen for writing purposes then that can easily be replaced by apps. The only thing I find I miss on cm is multiwindow. sure theres xhalo floating window module that is multiwindow but its not as feature rich as the samsung one. The samsung multiwindow (with certain mods) can put up to 4 apps in multiwindow at once, or 3 or whichever you choose. All resizeable which I do frequently. that coupled with the "all app" mod, its very useful. see my screenshot

As title states...every Android I've had (and I've had a bunch), first thing I do is install Nova Launcher. I did that with my Note 2 immediately and kept it that way for a couple days without ever playing with touchwiz. However, a few days ago I figured I'd give TW a try and found that I actually prefer it to Nova! I was shocked, but pleased nonetheless. I find it (for the first time) every bit as smooth as Nova and I like the idea of Pagebuddy and the s pen utility icons that pop up in the notification tray. I have also found that the stock launcher seems to use less system resources than Nova...at least from what I can see by available ram.
Anyone else experience the above, or have I lost my mind?...haha

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm still using Touchmywiz after a full two weeks now. that's amazing. Me changing themes all the time with Go Launcher or Nova got boring...every theme had at least one ICON or something I didn't like to sticking with stock launcher is kind of a nice. Especially since it's so smooth.

Count me in too. I love it as-is. Which is a bummer, as I enjoyed flashing all the time, but for now, no-more. I had to root it, but that's it.
I cant believe how much I like tw I just wish it had force close any thing. Miui built in feature. Any one know a solution?

I respect all of your opinions here. I hear what you guys are saying and understand it at a logical level. But, no. Just, no. Every skinned version of Android should be nuked and destroyed. Every carrier or OEM that tries to add to the Android experience should be forced to spend time for crimes against humanity.
As soon as mine gets here on Tuesday: Root and flash to the closest thing to AOSP.

I certainly have. I just don't own one yet. Had a day on the Verizon one yesterday. Used the T-Mobile for a few hours the day before. My personal AT&T one is coming in the mail. And my original Note is running CM10.
I have to agree, the TW launcher and Note 2 software are spot on. I love CM/AOSP but the stock rom is going to give CM/AOSP a run for the money. Now, if CM/AOSP can integrate the S-Pen features (note, memo, calendar and gestures) then will definitely be moving over, but for now stock (with root) is staying put. Well done Samsung!
Keeping in mind we are all sharing opinions and everyone is very velcome to voice there own. Mine is a torn one. Im very aware of the sweetness custom launchers and roms offer. My conflict is the TW launcher has so much proprietary and necessary fuction in direct relation to the phones core features I feel I woild be missing out on some potential with anything else loaded. I have been useing a modified TW launcher since day one and feel its the best experience. Considering all I have done is removed all bloat and added all the features everyone else has. Then wave around the middle finger to whomever is responsible for ATT borking it in the first place.
As its been mentioned before. If a CM or other shows up with all the TW apps and SPen compatible I would dive right in. Considering Samsung had a good lockdown on anything document related to the chipset I dont see that hapening anytime soon. The CM team has already stated they are not happy about samsungs lockdown and have suggested they might drop it all together to focus on other phones. :banghead:

Stock was great and all, but this is the first phone i actually ran a different launcher on it instead of stock. I was just way too annoyed about the icon size and the space between them. Got nova launcher to fix that.

Says the brainwashed "AOSP OR NOTHING IT PWNZ0RZ" Nazi. Seriously of you're gonna load CM and ultimately kill one of the 3 main selling points (spen) why the hell would you even consider the note 2? Seems like the Droid DNA, where running CM/AOSP wouldn't cost you a single feature, would be a MUCH better choice for you.
As for CM: drop the Note 2. I don't care as ill never use it. All CM does to the note 2 is remove features. Want a "stock" look? Get apex or Nova launcher. Looks like CM and still gives you full spen support.
The note 2 is *****ing fast. It has killer battery life. Those were two main selling points of flashing cm/aosp. What do you gain by flashing cm/aosp? You lose features and can almost exactly replicate the look via a launcher. Its simply not needed on the note 2.

The main reason I flashed a ROM was multi-view. Once the AT&T version gets the multi-view I will probably jump to a rooted stock ROM. The other thing I would miss on stock is the ability to choose the notification toggles.
I am running Nova just because I like a tighter icon layout. Right now I'm on 5x8 (including the dock). Samsung loves adding in little features, I wonder why choosing more layouts wasn't one of the things they added to such a large phone.
I loved AOKP on the S II. Sorely missed a stable build with decent battery life on the One X. But, the Note is a wholly different stock experience.
I chose the Note for the TouchWiz stuff and S-Pen. It really isn't that much bigger than the S III (my coworkers S III + case is bigger than my naked Note). I knew I wanted stuff like smart stay and smart alert. All the stuff I would lose on AOSP bases. Even multi view is coming to TouchWiz JB update to the S II. Samsung has this software down, really brought their A-Game. If I stretch I can only think of two things I would have wanted stock: more freedom in row/column in the launcher, and ability to select and order the notification toggles. Nothing like the laundry list I can come up with about Sense 4+.

Currently using a GSM Galaxy Nexus with SlimBean, and I've used ParanoidAndroid recently but ultimately didn't like it due to the size of the screen. I'd prefer a ROM that maintains (or doesn't break) most of the stock features (S-Pen and Bluetooth/Apt-X particularly), and I've heard MIUI is good in that regard; I haven't used it in the past (on my Galaxy Nexus of G2) because I always found it too laggy and too high on RAM usage, but I've always liked the overall look/feel and features. Something that isn't too hard to get working with tethering (without the plan obviously) would be nice too.
Anyway, recommendations? I'd appreciate reasons for the recommendation too, and something more than just "great battery life" (which I appreciate, but with the size of the phone battery and how often I'm near a charger, it's literally the least of my concern). Thanks!
Stock. No, seriously.
I would recommend using jedi master 9 or tweaked 1.3, both are debloated with lots of customization options. I'm up to around 5gb of tethering for the month and I don't have that on my plan right now so I would say to go that route!

I think my tastes are similar to you. I've tried all the ROMs, from AOSP/AOKP, CM10, MIUI, ICS & Jellybean and, for me, "myrom" V 3.5 (4) is top notch. I haven't tried tethering, but other forum participants report it works well.
It's an Aroma installer, weighing in at 1.5GHz so all apps are available to install or reject, including custom installation. Its super fast and remarkably stable.
An alternative is Jedi (xx), although it's not my favorite.
I've combinted "myrom" with Xone kernel at 2.0 GHz It makes the fast even faster and battery usage isn't too bad, but I'll bet stock kernel is damned good.
Myrom hands down! !!!

Be aware that some roms are missing seriously important features like snote, Wifi calling, multi Window, pen button support, etc
I'd just go for the tweaked tmobile specific touchwiz roms. But then, I require Wifi calling.

Is there a list of ROMs off the stock base or that have most of the stock features, S-Pen particularly? Out of what you listed, pen features and multi window are probably the only two I care most about.
I just got my Note 2 four days ago and I've been running JediXX. I love it. Wasn't really a big fan of TW roms with my SGS2 but on the Note 2 its pretty tight.

C.S.
OP, TBH I recommend just trying them for yourself, take a run thru the ROM threads, read and read. See what catches your eye, then test. Thanks
So had my note 2 for a couple of months now, and love it. I'm using stock (but rooted) 4.1.1.
I've got Apex launcher and most icons and stuff skinned to AOSP, though I miss some of the AOSP apps and the look and feel around the device of AOSP.
What would I miss if I left touchwiz? The rom needs to be *rock solid* stable as well - I'm only moving if it feels as smooth as stock!
Suggestions?
from my experience:
Stock advantages:
better Camera, Camcorder with slow motion video, everything regarding Spen that is going beyond simple gestures, Spen software even though you can get replacements for that (like Papyrus instead of SNote), Allshare Cast and working MHL and HDMI output through dock, multiwindow
AOSP advantages:
faster Speed, newer Android version including its features (for 4.2.2 you get lockscreen widgets for example), open community with many innovative design ideas like PIE Navigation or PA hybrid engine and the like, AOSP look (if that's your thing, it is for me), a lot less bloatware -> choose what you want to install
They are both as stable as anything you can get in terms of ROMs. In the end it's a question of what features you want to have, if you can live without the Samsung exclusive stuff or not.
+1 mrruin
I love aosp roms but im sticking to Tw rom just for the sake of camera features. .

In general I find battery life a lot better on stock roms rather than AOSP.
Honestly, you'd miss a hell lot. It would just be another phone with massive screen with AOSP. I mean sure, you get the stock android experience and all that jazz, but on Note II, I would highly recommend sticking to TW based roms.
You'd miss: A hell lot of SPen features (like Airview), Multitasking, Motion, Camera app, S Note, other apps like Polaris Office if you use that. And from my experience, far more bug free than AOSP roms - again, that's purely my experience, might be way off here.
Just get a good AOSP themed TW based ROM and AOSP apps. I'm using Project AOSP now, AllianceROM is good too, from what I hear.
I like Touchwiz based roms on this phone a lot more, not back in the s1 and s2 days, cm was way better, but now Samsung finally got there act together.

best aosp for me - carbon ... they got nightly version as well haha
best tw based - ARHD or Wanam or Monxdified (cant go wrong with any of them)

Personally I think you should stick to stock. All the hardware works properly then, especially the camera which has always been a problem with the open source ROMS. You DO end up with more memory and less "blo
In fact jonatton has already said it all clearly.
I'm a firm believer in the statement "My phone with custom ASOP runs so much faster, now that half the features don't work properly!!"
ASOP was a good choice on a lot of older phones where the stock ui was too heavy for the hardware. The Note II is not one of those phones. It's such a mighty beast that nothing much can really slow it down. Has anyone actually been able to fill the ram up yet? Not me that's for sure.

I have to agree that the Note 2 is a better phone running Touchwiz based ROMs. When I initially rooted my phone I went with the Note-orious Prime ROM with the Note2 Core kernel. I then decided to try another ROM so I ran my Note 2 on Pacman, Paranoid Android 3.
Sure the Paranoid ROM was amazing in its customization and had a buttery smoothness, but thats it.
I lost all pen features, s-voice which actually works brilliantly for me. I had random weird system issues. The camera sucked. Lost all voice command capabilities.
The other day I had enough, flipped back to Note-orious Prime and now wont look back.
The way I look at it is that it isnt bloatware if you actually use it.
EDIT: to add I also had atrocious battery life with the paranoid rom compared to the touchwiz.
Interesting thread.
I also might start off with a TW based ROM.

Been messing around with note 2 roms, and I too must say that stock tw feels best for me. I thought I don't care much for Sammy stock bloatware, but as I installed AOSP roms I started to miss my s note, air view, s Pen gestures etc. Now I tend to stick with tw based. Love phoenix, bobcat, arhd, wanamlite and assassin.

to add on to what's already been said I've actually been bouncing back & fourth from AOSP to TW & I've ran into a little issue that has me staying with TW for permanent although I love the DPI options you get on AOSP the most important feature for me was that my Beats headphones would barely work on Aosp I'd always get complaints from people saying they could barely hear me..never happens on TW though..
*Yawn* Another best ROM thread

Hi all I waited a long time to post something like this until I was sure.
Basically LTE is way better on stock in comparison to AOSP roms(UCAMA4 modem). I'm someone who takes the train across 40ish miles each way in Philadelphia to work and back 5 days a week.
Certain areas where I consistently never get a signal on AOSP I get one on stock. Other areasare just noticeably stronger than AOSP with decreased latency across multiple applications.
I just figured that I mention it in case it helps or if anyone had insight as to why. I do not have any proof of hand but I can do testing of the theory is skeptical.
Roms tested are beanstalk, liquidsmooth, rootbox, paranoid android with proper apn settings. I have even tried adding admin, hipri to them.

Yeah, due to the drivers and what not this will sadly be the truth.
Have you tried the most recent official aokp release? The lte is still not as good as stock, but it's pretty good. Aokp.co

Thanks for the reply since I never read anyone talking about this before! Makes sense that there's different drivers across releases, I have not tried the most recent release but I did try it bundled within DaGr8's builds. I'll give their most recent release a go and post back after I can reach some consistency here...signal reliability and latency is a big big thing to care about

O I agree. It's obviously a huge thing. I love this phone, but aosp holds a special place in my heart...our something Lmao. I miss my nexus phones. That's where the true power of aosp is at. This new aokp well hold me over till the announce of the new nexus.
Hopefully you will see some improvement!

I'm guessing that AOSP roms may not contain the Radio interface libraries like the stock rom does.
I don't know the number for the UCAMA4 radio image and the stock 4.1.2. rom, but on the note 1, the stock rom contained 1352 radio interface libs.
AOSP must contain some of these to get radio firmware to function, but I'm not sure if the rom contains all of them for any particular network.
CM for example, is built for multiple devices and has multiple APN's for function. But who knows how many RIL's are added in.
This connection reduction problem is one of the very few items that keeps me running a stock rom variant build. AOSP/AOKP is getting better every day, and I'm sure it wont be long until the devs get the issues ironed out. As cwhitney24 mentioned above, AOKP is leading the pack ATM, and those builds are sweet.
Now I need to go try one again....LOL....g
Different radios have different rils lte and wimax thats closed sourced stuff isnt it...our devs have to do major hacking to get it to work with our custom firmware. Samsung and the manufacturers get the code im sure but our devs got nothing to go on.
Kinda like back in the ol evo 4g days when it was a big deal to get wimax working on aosp. That poor guy had to write the appropriate patch from scratch, and I dont think they still even have it working properly (they probably gave up w lte around the bend)
Definitely is a difference with signal quality but like said above I'm sure that will improve as time goes on. I currently am on liquid smooth 2.2 and absolutely love it but I do notice this along with the fact that these aosp ROMs do not handle actual usage of data as well as stock does. They sleep great but once you start using data that battery drains much faster than it does on touchwiz.
On a side note, speaker volume is also significantly lower on aosp ROMs. All things I assume will be fixed as time goes on as is evident by the always great work the Devs have already provided us with.
For anyone still wondering, I switched to Aokp for a day and it still sucked so I switched to Jedi tw based Rom and across my traveling it is such a big improvement!

Its funny you made this post because I was pondering starting a thread myself on the issues of not getting lte when switching to a Rom that isn't touch wiz based. So far, since owning this phone back in November, every aosp aokp etc ROM has given me trouble with lte. As much as I love the stock Android look and and feel, I can't do without lte. Its bad enough I would be giving up most of my s pen functionality.

Makes me think that the battery issue on AOSP is directly related to signal issue because your phone will be "hunting" allot more for a good signal.

I totall agree on the speed thing, so if lte is important to you, aosp/kp is close but not ready to rock and roll yet. As far as staying w/ a stock rom, which stock rom varients seem to kick the most ass, that have stock as their base? So, a person could use a teams rom as long it has the stock rom as the base, correct, and will it work with Telus note 2, (dammit the model # evades me @The Moment, lol)?

So far my favorite touchwiz based Roms have been CleanROM, Skynote and I'm currently running Jedi X14. They've all been reliable, fast and have added little touches that make them unique. There was one more that I like but the name is slipping me. I think it was Notetorious or Notorious. I know it used "Note" somehow. That was one of the first Roms I flashed when I got the phone and I remember liking it a lot. I've only been switching Roms here and there lately because a) I want to try new ones out to see their features and b) sometimes I enjoy the AOSP look over touchwiz so I will switch to something like PAC man or CM10; but then I will start to miss my Samsung features again and will switch back to stock.
FYI... If you don't use TWRP already, I highly recommend it. Saved my ass big time in a way that the regular recovery wouldn't have been able to. I'm going to make a post about it pretty soon.
So I guess I'll be holding off from using a stock android based ROM for a little bit after reading this. I was kinda getting bored and wanted something different and just about willing to let go of some of the spen and tw features but I won't sacrifice LTE.
I was using Jedi x9 for months and never updated. It was near perfect. But then again I never really tried anything else. And I was new to this stuff. But now I'm running skynote and its stellar. Tried Jedi x14 very briefly but will give it a go when we get some new 4.2.2 updates.
Got my S4 a couple days ago and flashed AOKP within an hour. I thought the TW bundled with the phone was pretty damn smooth, but AOKP is just insane. It's like something out of a commercial where there's zero lag, but it's not a commercial, it's the actual phone in your hands. When I hit voice search, it pops up INSTANTLY. I've had a couple soft reboots when hitting recent apps from a frozen app, but I'm sure those will be ironed out. I'm not sure the camera pictures I've taken have looked as nice, though. It's hard to tell.
For those of you who made the move from TW to an AOSP-based ROM, what are your thoughts? Has anyone moved back to TW?
I've never used anything but aosp on any phone. Be it cyanogen or aokp or pure aosp.
With my previous HTC devices it was a no brainer to dump Sense ROMs and replace them with anything else. Even my Samsung tablet that came with TW didn't last long but that was because I wanted Jelly Bean on it before the official upgrade came out so TW was gone within 2 days on my tablet. So I've been using aosp for a year and a half without interruption.
When I first turned on my S4 I was shocked at how cluttered everything was. Having been used to aosp I didn't understand how anyone could use this phone as it comes out of the box. There was a new alert every 8 seconds. The notification window was constantly filled with stuff I couldn't have cared less about. Status bar was filled with icons that had no meaning to me. The only feature I thought was really cool was the T Mobile account monitor in the notification window. Everything else was just clutter. Granted, much of that was carrier bloat.
It took me 20 minutes to test all the hardware and make sure the device was not in. Need of an exchange before I rooted it and ever that was kind of painful with the TW interface. I flashed Cyanogen and am not looking back.
Oh, and despite all that about TouchWiz that I didn't like...its about a billion times better than HTC Sense.
I will say that on my unbranded Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablet that is WiFi only and there for completely unbranded with no bloat, the pure TouchWiz interface it came with was very nice. It was much less cluttered and more usable. Just not as configurable as aosp.
Sent from your phone. You should be careful where you leave that thing.
I guess its universal AOSP are always smoother to bloated TouchWiz. I personally prefer TW (yes call me crazy ) Either you love TW or you hate it there's no other option TW with all its goodies is lot cooler than what it used to be..
Sent from the state where marijuana is not illegal !
I've also noticed AOSP feels much faster... virtually no lag to be found. One thing that I have noticed though, and it may be something I'm not doing right with my settings, but TW seems to get better battery life than AOSP. I like TW for certain features such as the camera quality and one or two of the gimmicky features; but halo, unbridled speed, and customization possibilities with AOSP makes it a hard decision of which to stay with.
Overall i find most of the touchwiz features just unnecessary bloatware that you really dont need, thats more for showing off that your phone can do it over actually being practical to keep on all the time. I really like the general smoothness of AOKP much better than touchwiz, but in some areas such as the camera, AOKP really lacks in that department compared to the stock camera app, and i find 3D applications don't perform quite as well as they do on Touchwiz either, and i think most of these issues are probably more driver related than anything.
I used aokp on my s2 and loved it because it doesnt have any samsung goodness like s3 and s4 but on this devices I use TW to utilize full function.

For those of you who uses AOSP/AOKP/w.e else ....what do you use as alternative camera/gallery? What i love about Samsung is their gallery and camera. I have found mods that transfer AOSP camera / gallery to TW but never vice versa.
I tried Aosp roms on my s3 and s4. I always end up back on tw cuz aosp roms are never 100% stable. The last time I actually stayed on aosp was with my Motorola Triumph and that's because the triumph was stuck on froyo and Cm7 was pretty stable.

Okay, the big question:
Is it possible to use Watch ON (or smart remote, etc) on AOSP/AOKP/Cyanogen/etc? or is this limited to touchwiz only?
As for camera quality, I expect that to start changing for the better once the Nexusized GS4 gets released

I'm pretty curious about this myself. From what I've heard AOKP/AOSP doesn't have the software to utilize the IR blaster, but I could always be wrong. I use TW , but will almost always run Nova launcher for customization.

According to Cyanogen, the source code for that isn't proprietary. He wants to see what other devs come up with.

The source code for the software might not be, but I think it is for the IR hardware. I know on the Samsung tablets that have an IR blaster they don't work in CM because the hardware drivers are proprietary.

No to the extra sd space.
Possibly yes to the battery life. It greatly depends on how you set it up and what features you do and don't activate. Also the cm builds are nightly builds, which means any given one of them could have randomly crappy battery life due to a glitch or something. These have been great builds lately but that can always happen with nightlies. That aside though...yes you should get better battery life
