[Q] Network Unlock - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Phone: AT&T Galaxy S3 version 4.3 SGH-1747
Background:
I am Australian and I was in America for 3 months. At the start of the trip I needed a new phone so I bought an AT&T S3 SGH-I747. Before purchasing I made sure to ask whether I could unlock it as soon as I walked out of the store if I needed due to I had to head to Australia where there is no AT&T service. I got told Yes. I went back in before leaving America and they said just to do online. I did process online and it told me to wait 7 day. 9 days later I got told it couldn't be unlocked due to 6month period. I called up and they said they would unlock it. 9 days later they said it couldn't be unlocked and I had missed their call (phone was in Australia so no reception). So far I have had 200 of international minutes (through skype so didn't cost much) and waited over a month to try get this unlocked always in a state of 7days or less to unlock. I am now waiting on a Supervisors's Supervisors's Supervisors's Supervisor to give me a call back however I don't think it is happening as they said 24 hours and it has been 72. I really need this phone unlocked. It is on 4.3 and hence I can't get it unlocked with the 4.1.1 trick. I am a software engineer so technical instructions are not a problem.
Question:
How can I get this phone unlocked within the next 48 hours maximum? I wouldn't mind buying an unlock code if there is no other way and if that is the best option which is the safest site to do it on?

I read in other posts that people were able to get the unlock code via AT&T online chat support.
The safest way to unlock your phone would be to buy a code; however, you may have to get the code from a non-US unlocker due to the USA's laws regarding unlocking of phone manufactured after January 26, 2013.

Unfortunately I have tried that and I cannot get to a decent representative who can do anything but tell me to try through their online system which will tell me I'm not eligible due to I had to pre-pay and hence am on a GoPhone which they don't give any decent customer service. 2 hours of calls to reps and 16 different people.

Sounds like you'll have to go with an unlock code. It's the safest since you're on a 4.3 ROM.

Could you recommend a safe place to buy it?

Sorry, I can't recommend any unlockers as I unlocked my s3 myself using the stock 4.1.1 ROM.

Anyone know of a safe place to buy an unlock code for AT&T I747 version 4.3?

[Q] Can I Use My Rooted SGS2 In Europe?

Hi All,
Does anyone know if I can use my rooted SGS2 over in Europe? Specifically I'm using a rooted T989 running TDJ's Darkside Evolution 3 v7 with the venom kernel and the Touch0Color theme. I'm going to the Netherlands, where I think I can just get a local Tmobile (NL) sim and be fine, and the Romania, where I believe the phone will work on the Orange network.
Since the phone is rooted, it should also be unlocked, so there shouldn't be a hitch in just switching the sim and being up and running, correct?
Any thoughts, and especially first hand experience, would be appreciated.
I just want to make sure I'm not missing something completely obvious that makes simply buying the cheap $15 throw away the better option.
Thanks,
That's correct. Just call tmo for the unlock code...tell them the truth-you're going overseas. When you get there get a local SIM and pop it in.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
your phone should work in with any gsm carrier to make phone calls but your phone has to be unlocked. I dont know how the data will work since most gms carriers frequency bands are different from Tmobile's.
Ok, so I went to T-Mobile as instructed, and they said they would get back to me in 14 days (I know, right?). So they just sent me the below.
What should I do? I'm still wondering if the phone is just blanket unlocked as a result of the root and the new rom, but I'd prefer not to go buy a prepaid AT&T sim to find out. Can anyone out there advise?
Here's what T-Mobile sent me.
BEGIN
T-Mobile Phone #: 5********9
T-Mobile Sim Unlock Request
Sim Unlock Reference: 5*****6
IMEI: 3*************0
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide the unlock code at this time. After review of the account we have determined that the device is not in use with the corresponding mobile number. T-Mobile policies and procedures state that the device must be in use on the mobile number requesting the unlock code. If this is a new device please allow 3-4 business days prior to submitting a new request to allow your usage to update in our system.
Thank you,
SIM Unlock Department
Thank You,
Sim Unlock Department
T-Mobile USA, Inc.
END
I checked the numbers twice, and they are correct. But, obviously, I'm using the number with the phone on t-mobile without a hitch ...
So I called T-mobile, and asked what's what. They said that they couldn't even see what my phone was on the system, and then suggested that I call Samsung. Samsung said that they couldn't verify ownership of the phone and said to call tmobile. So I'm wondering what's going on here. The tmobile rep did say that she doesn't think that I'd be able to use an AT&T sim even though I rooted my phone. How would they know though, isn't the normal android stuff unlocked?
Any thoughts?
"rooted" and "unlocked" are not same terms.
I have rooted my phone and requested Unlock code from t-mobile before my trip to russia. Their policies state that you have to be t-mobile's customer for at least 40 days.(though because of circumstances they gave it to me on 39th day)
In russia I bought local sim card, slip it in my S2, followed an instructions provided by t-mobile and had no problems to place/receive calls and use an Internet. Though speed was 3G.
First, Rooted it doesn't mean Unlocked! They are 2 different operations.
You can be Rooted but NOT Unlocked, you can be Unlocked but NOT Rooted
and you can be Rooted AND Unlocked.
That being said, I beleive you have to be on Stock ROM when you
request the unlock code. With a custom ROM they don't recognize
your phone.....
If you don't want to flash back to stock until you get the code, then I would
go to a local cell phone store (not a company, just a local that sells
phones for all major carriers) and ask them to unlock it for you.
It should take about 5 min. and should cost about $20.
You can also go in Romania and unlock it there for about $5.
I know nothing about Netherlands, but it should be the same.....
Good luck and have a nice vacation.

[Q] Unlock SM-T217A? (AT&T)

I have a Galaxy Tab 3 SM-T217A that I purchased used through Cowboom. I would like to unlock it for other carriers. What would be the easiest and cheapest way to do this? I tried the AT&T unlock request page, but I am not an AT&T customer and never have been, and obviously do not know the name of the person who last used this device.
I have investigated the myriad millions of device-unlock services on the net, but my particular device doesn't show up on the drop-down-menu lists of supported devices on most of them.
Solved this one myself. I took the unit to an AT&T store and subscribed to the $15/month pre-paid plan, thereby becoming an AT&T customer. Then I filled out the form on the web site asking for the unlock code, which I got about 2 hours later.

Just curious: How long after getting the AT&T service did you wait before contacting them for the unlock code? I was actually thinking the same, but wasn't sure how long I would have to be with AT&T before I could get the code. I really don't want to be with them any longer then necessary. I have T-Mo & they give free Tablet data plans to customers, but I need the device unlocked first.
Thanx
Hi, seems I'm coming very late to the party. But I've got good news for the op. I bought this tablet off Amazon, arrived with 4..2.2, searched for unlock code and found none. Presently rocking GSM function on this tablet. How did I get it unlocked? RegionLock Away app by Chainfire. See link below.

Thank me, donate to Chanfire and buy me a beer later.

I rebooted and it said custom unlocked
Hoping to revive this thread...
Mkc512,
Where did you find the app to unlock?

There are more than a few guides and threads here regarding sim unlocking that do not require any calls or codes from Tmo. I've done so myself and can say for sure that it works.

I called T-Mobile last year when my phone was off-contract, and they emailed me the unlock code within a day. I just had to put a AT&T SIM in my phone and it asked for the code, and it was unlocked. And, this works no matter what kernel, firmware, or bootloader you are running.

So does the unlock guides found here. Once you're unlocked it's done for good regardless of firmware.
This is a great thing because unfortunately, some phones are very tough to unlock. Also eliminates the need to pay a service to unlock it for you.
I have successfully unlocked 2 phones in the past day. Submitted the unlock requests, and got responses in about 12 hours. One of the phones I had tried to get unlocked 3 times last year, but they kept refusing as it was a prepaid Lumia 520 and apparently just wanted to be difficult.

[Q] OE1 Update / Odin Back

So I have read alot about how to downgrade from 5.0.X to lower versions of android to4.4.2 and 4.4.4 just isnt possible. Well, I made it happen tonight. It took 3 days to figure it out and I will gladly share how i accomplished this, and upload all the files. I didnt mess with the boot loader because frankly, I dont know how. Everything was done through ODIN as well.
But I am in need of help/ questions answered first.
My phone is 100% paid off, and I am 100% paid in full with sprint so it was my understanding as of FEB of this year upon request they HAD to SIM unlock my phone per my request... So here are my questions
1 - If i flash AT&T roms, or any other carrier ROM over to my sprint note 4, will my phone still function properly? And if it will, does that give me a better shot at getting the phone away from INVALID SIM error and putting in my MSL code.
2- is it really NOT possible to domestic unlock a phone from sprint with android L? if not, why would sprint tell me they could domestic unlock my phone?
3- I have been given my MSL, been told by sprint my phone is unlocked, and cannot get a prompt to enter the MSL so I can keep my note4 when i move to a new carrier. All I keep seeing when i put the SIM card into my note 4 is "INVALID SIM" , I have seen the SSU unlock APK and tried to use it but the lowest version of android i can find is 4.4.4 for the note 4, and SSU states it only works on 4.4.2 and lower.
Can anyone help me get this stupid thing domestic unlocked?
OK here is the issue if I understand correctly.
You want to unlock your phone Sprint has provided you the unlock code.....
Since the Phone was shipped with 4.42 or 4.44 depending when you go it ........ that means you will need to be in that Android version for it to work not running lollipop(5.x)..... Then :
Switch off your Galaxy Note 4.
Take out its battery.
Pull the Sprint SIM card out of the slot.
Insert a new SIM from a different wireless carrier in the SIM slot.
Place the battery back in the mobile.
Power on the phone.
When prompted, type the unlock code that you received from Sprint.
It will complete and you are done
DSU vs MSL

Sprint's policy for DSU (Domestic SIM unlock) is phones *launched* after Feb 2015 will be eligible. Unfortunately, as the Note 4 launched last year, it is not eligible for DSU. The MSL code allows you to edit the APNs to go to another CDMA carrier., but will not unlock the SIM slot for domestic use.
Sorry.
Sprint will unlock a device from Sprint's network under the following circumstances:
Any associated Service Agreement, Installment Billing Agreement, or Lease Agreement has been fulfilled including payment in full of any applicable early termination fees or end-of-lease purchase options
The associated account is in good standing
The device has not been reported as lost or stolen, associated with fraudulent activity, or otherwise flagged as ineligible to be unlocked
Generally, if you have a device that was launched prior to February 2015 and it is capable of being unlocked, Sprint will provide a bill notification and/or text message when you are eligible to have your device unlocked. The bill notification will direct you to Sprint Customer Care who can assist in efforts to unlock your device.
For domestic SIM unlockable ("DSU") devices launched after February 2015, Sprint will automatically unlock the device when it becomes eligible.
For inactive devices, customers must contact Sprint Customer Care to request that their DSU-capable device be unlocked and may have to take steps to perform an over-the-air update to ensure the unlock programming has been relayed to the device.
The note 4 is capable of being unlocked. Sprints policy is they AUTOMATICALLY unlock them if it was launched after FEB 2015.
Now, can you tell us how to Odin backwards from OE1?
thanks
Can't I'd back wait til oe3 is out I made the mistake and paid the price

Sorry to burst your bubble but you're wrong. Note 4 is clearly on their list of phones they will give you the MSL or the ISU (International SIM unlock), but not DSU. Read for yourself: http://www.sprint.com/legal/unlocking_policy.html
Moving on in 3 - 2 - 1.....
Just swap for tmobile or Verizon note 4 ..post an ad. Meet at the store. Verizon is unlocked out of box. It will work on all but sprint. Tmobile will work and I believe Att with Sim unlock but don't quote me. Just an idea.

Unlocking a S9

Has anyone gone through a 3rd party service to unlock a s9 yet?
I was told that it's internationally unlocked but not domestically unlocked. The carrier wont unlocked the phone until the phone contract is up.
I'm in the process of having mine unlocked(via code), I'll update if it was successful.
What the Benefits of unlock Samsung Galaxy S9 Smartphone ?
To be able to use it with other carriers.
Trying to unlock my AT&T model, and it's been a week so far. Unlockers on Ebay have been unsuccessful, AT&T has given me the runaround. SUPPOSEDLY it will be done in 48 hours, but I've heard that for the past week.
T-Mobile will unlock their model within a day if you contact them on Twitter. AT&T is just proving why they're an embarrassment of a carrier.
Well, Sprint has the crazy rule of being active for 50 days before unlocking...
I'm debating paying for an unlocked if one can be found.

Mine was an Xfinity Mobile variant, but after trying 3 different companies and trying for a few weeks, I finally got it unlocked. The Unlocking CO was finally able to unlock my phone, it took almost 3 days for them to get the code but it worked.
I actually got a refund from Pro Unlockers, and AT&T finally came through after 2 weeks.
Hey! I'm pretty good when it comes to unlock phones, i got mine (s9) unlocked for international USE... If any of you has any questions, Telegram: @laacv17

When you unlocked it with AT&T, did you lose Wifi calling ability with AT&T? Curious to know as that will determine if I get mine unlocked for possible future move to another carrier. I understand if its unlocked and I move to a different carrier, that I for sure will lose WiFi calling and other advanced features...I'm just curious if I will lose them right off the bat with the original AT&T carrier.
I have a S9 that I need unlocked. Can u help?
