I have a ATT TP2/Stock Radio and have been flashing ROMs for a long time... I recently flashed to the latest ENERGY rom and after a day or so the weather for "My location" quit updating?
I figured it was a bug so I flashed to another one of his ROMs. (I always have used his ROMs from my 1st flash) The phone will not find a GPS signal to update my location. I went back to a tried and true oldler version of Energy, which worked in the past and still no "My location" weather?
Google maps cannot locate any satilites either?
I flashed back to 1st ATT stock ROM loaded google map, searched my location and it worked... So they phone is still working properly.
Flashed back to ENERGY ROM and back again to no "My location" weather or google map GPS?
I have tried everything I can think of please help...
Perhaps you have already done it, but have you performed a task 29? If not try that, then flash your rom.
Both the My Location and GPS issues are discussed (with possible solutions) in the Energy ROM FAQs, Post 6 (of the Energy ROM thread) Section 3 "Solutions to Issues":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4579513&postcount=6
"My Location" is derived from cell tower information, not GPS. Issues with My Location may be a function of the cell tower at your local area, either low signal strength, or just not passing the proper info to your phone. If you travel to a location a few miles away (or farther) do you still get no location?
I have the ATT Tilt2, same as you, and have flashed Energy ROM many times (including most recently Oct. 8), and have never had an issue with either My Location or GPS. There are some ATT-specific solutions you can try, listed in the FAQ. Also, updating to the newer radio (one shown in my signature) may help.
Will do...
I do perform Task 29- Thanks for the reply
I will read more about the it from the Energy thread. Thanks for the reply...
That is the ROM I started having issues with.
OCT.8 Cookie Rom- Flashed and just like normal everything was fine. Drove out on a job for work and everything was good, later got back to my shop in and looked at the phone and it was stuck on the other city, kinda like it hadnt updated since. Tried to update and it just would time out? So I Hard reset the phone and it never loaded the My Location... Full signal indoors and out.
One of the guys I work with has a TP2 as well and he asked me if google was working. I tried to locate me on the map and it says "Your location is temporary not avial." When I try to update the weather from the tab it says "No updates are avail."
I dont know? Im downloading the new ATT ROM now and will, see what it does.
I was told that it will update my radio.
Ive never flashed my radio, and dont know much about it or what exactly it does to upgrade it. I am going to try to read more tonight when I get off work.
Thanks, If your have any inputs/questions I will get back ASAP...
Dont know?
Well the new ATT ROM is on the phone working fine...? As soon as it booted the weather on the Sense popped up with my city... I cant figure out why other roms arent working.
Im going to flash again to Energy soon... Maybe tonight or tomarrow; Battery is dead and have to let it charge. Besides Ive flashed some many times im tired of messing with it.
If anyone has any ideas on what my issue may be please help.
Thanks-

The stock ROM works fine because it does all the work for you. It preforms a task29 as part of the process. If you don't know what that is, it's a tool that erases and formats the internal memory of the device. It also flashes the radio and the ROM in the same program. Basically, all of the things you needed to do on a custom ROM, it does for you on the stock ROM.
BEFORE putting another ROM on your device, preform a task29 (search for it in the Rhodium ROM dev section), then flash the ROM. After that, read the FAQ in post #6 of the Energy thread. If that doesn't answer your question, then ask about it in that thread.
BEFORE posting a question in the Energy thread, be sure to read the FAQ. There is a correct way to ask for help there.
IDK, This is wierd
I do know about task29 and perform it before every flash.
So Stock ROM V.2 was working on "My Location" and Google Map... So I was looking around for .Cabs to clean the Stock ROM up and noticed that ENERGY had posted some new ROMS and I downloaded one. I Task29'd and flashed to the new Energy ROM, No fix on Google and weather "My Location" still unable to update or even find my location...?
Task29'd and went back to Stock ROM V.2 and now I'm having the same issue with the stocker?
Does anyone know what could possibly causing this issue? I don't ever get into the Registry or anything. I just flash and go adding the basic .Cabs
I'm at a loss... I would really hate to replace the phone due to this. Everything else works fine it just seems to be a GPS issue...
Any help would be greatly apperciated.
Thanks in advance-- I hope

This to me would seem to indicate that it might be an issue with the cell towers and not your phone, if it works in some locations and not others. Its a pretty common issue, that's why its on the FAQs. For months, my phone would not retrieve the location information from the cell tower near my office, despite 4 bars of reception. But it works fine almost anywhere else. Next time you are driving to other locations, experiment and see if it works better in other towns.
The time out message for weather just means it can't get the weather info over the data connection, it doesn't refer to My Location. The HTC weather server has issues from time to time, so this may have nothing to do with your phone.

If you are running Energy ROM, then the solution to your My Location problem is listed in post #6 of that thread. The easiest solution is to simply disable 3G. My Location is determined from the Cell Towers, not the device. If this solution doesn't work for you, then that narrows the problem down to something you've installed on the device. Try the solutions listed first. If that doesn't work, install a program like Sprite Backup to create an image of your device so you don't loose anything. After backing up, flash the stock ROM and see if, without installing or changing anything, you have the same problem. If it's working like this, then install things one-by-one until you find the culprit.

Flashing the radio is super easy. If you've already flashed ROM, flashing the radio is basically the same process, except it only takes a several seconds. It updates the software on your phone that allows it to connect with the cell network. It resides on a separate part of the memory than the OS, so it usually is not affected by ROM flashes (and vice versa, flashing the radio does not affect the ROM). The newer official ATT ROM is an exception, where they packed the radio in with the ROM. So now your radio is updated to the newest ATT radio. Flashing custom Rhodium GSM ROMs from XDA won't affect the radio, unless specifically indicated otherwise (and I haven't seen any custom ROMs that do that).

There are a couple of custom ROMs that flash radio as well. I don't recall which, but be sure and look before flashing!

Thanks, good to know. Of course, we always read the ROM instructions thoroughly before flashing!
Narrowed Down...
Thanks to all that have helped so far...
Ok after reading the last few post I have somewhat narrowed down the issue.
Okay, Yesterday I flashed the New ATT ROM so I have the upgraded radio-
Discouraged after I lost the "My Location" with the stock ROM and its differences between Energy(I guess I got spoiled by it) I flashed back to a later version of Energy.
CajunFlavoredbob- Thanks for recommeneding me to try disabling 3G and see if it works. Well it did, I dropped to the Edge network full signal and it picked up pretty quick both on "My Location" Weather and Google... Switched back to 3G and issue came back.
So I read post#6 from the Energy forum and one user says for him he used
"FF ATT Nokia aGPS Settings" I am using something I think is similar to that it is "FF Google aGPS Settings Generic" but I guess its not work aswell as it should or at all? So I am going to try to find this other .Cab and install it and see if this works.
Somewhat narrowed down, with the issue but feel like I am getting somewhere
Thanks to all for help so far! I will keep you guys updated...
No luck...
Okay well I got 3 .Cabs from I believe Fone Fanatic and another one from this guy I work with and no luck?
Any other ideas on what I can do?
I have a question for those of you out there with a Koodo s2x t989d. I rooted my phone soon after I got it to fix a non-working gps. I did this so that I could use ClockSync app to auto update time so gps could be accurate. It worked. I have since been trying dozens of custom roms, cyanogenmod, Aokp roms, ptmr's roms and all in both ICS and JB. Not one rom no matter how I installed it (trying different orders of wiping, installing radios, roms, and clearing cach/ factory reset.) can I get the Gps to work. Everything else always works great. It does work on stock rom after I fixed it, and I recently found it works great on Ptmrs koodo V5. Now im sure this is because it is a stock based rom, also based on my carrier. It is a great rom, but I really would like to try some of the others, specifically Cyanogenmod 9 or 10. I have also tryed APGS fix version 2 and 3 on most of the custom roms I have tried.
I guess my question is, is there any koodo t989d owners out there that have a proven method for my gps to work on a custom rom? Everything else works great, just not GPS on custom roms!!
Also, to the more knowledgeable with installing roms, is there any reason that Gps works great on only koodo stock based roms? I am fairly bright and could probably attempt most suggestions if there was any to try to fix this.
Thanks in advance!!
Much appreciated!!!
Mike

It's become my habit to flash this GPS fix (found here)every time I flash a ROM, similar to flashing the gapps or titanium backup after the first reboot.
Might be a placebo affect now, but I can honestly lock on to ~15 satellites in under half a minute whereas before it was impossible to lock onto 3. Try it.
Oh, and if you don't have the recovery or don't want to flash it, you can just open up and extract the zip file, and copy the gps.conf to root/system/etc/ over the old one.
worked!
Cant thank you enough! so simple but it worked! I was unable to flash so I just moved file to the system/etc/ and rebooted. It may be noted that I turned off my gps before I rebooted which is something I haven't done before. I only had to complete this process once, and now it seems gps has worked on 3 different Jb roms.
Thanks again!
Received the OTA notification on my Verizon GNex yesterday. To make a long story short, as you can probably already guess, I can't turn bluetooth on. Not at all. I revert back to 4.1.1, BT works fine. Push the update from totally stock a second time, and still no BT. Tried it with and without unlock/root privileges.
Ive seen this is a common issue, but there doesnt seem to be a definitive answer on how to actually fix it. Some people have success with a reflash, some people mess with permissions, etc Nothing that Ive tied has worked.
(I am on the 4th reflash at this point, not even caring about my old data)
(really tired of this mtp garbage too)
Who has ideas??
(sorry, wrong forum - requested move)
edit
After 6 attempts of different combinations of roms and radios, I quit. Installed mwalt's mostly stock custom rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176954) and everything is fine. No idea what the problem is...
Fellow friends and S4 users, Im a loong time lurker and user, Just wanted to help people who found or find themselves in the same situation that i was in. Let me describe the problem, the symptoms and then the solution.
Some people might find themselves in the situation where after upgrading or flashing to a new rom, or new modem, they then get this problem where wifi is flaky if at all it turns on, bluetooth does the same and often get random reboots, Then this is the situation that i believe i have the fix for.
After reading serveral forums and watching several youtube videos on trying to fix this issue, and none of them worked for me, I realized that they were all right. And should have fixed the problem described above.
Im not good at explaining nor writing tutorials so here is why many suggestions did not work even though they where right such as flashing a modem,
For some reason, you need flash the modem multiple times before the phone will accept it. When i say multiple times i mean flash modem usin odin, reboot, flash again, reboot, flash again, and make sure to always factory reset. I dont know why, but for me it took me about 6 times to revert from mk2 modem to mdl modem. And this is after i had flashed the full mdl firmware in the sticky guide. and when i was finally able to revert to mdl modem, i still had to flash the mdl modem again multiple times before wifi and bluetooth got fixed permanently.
Sorry for spelling mistakes, gramtical mistakes and whatever, its 3:33 am, to tired to clean this up right away
I hope this helps.
DON'T PANIC!
I own two Verizon note 4 devices. You could call me a flash-a-holic. I love this stuff and really love my Note 4. It's the best phone I've ever seen with great features that many newer ones do not have. However, you already know that ... so I'll dispense with the speech. Before any of you think I'm new to this stuff, I should say I've been flashing devices since 2005 with my old Windows Mobile devices. I also manage a total of seven Note 4 devices from Verizon, five of which are on my own plan. My neighbor has the other two because they loved mine so much.
Recently, I've been playing around with some of the International ROMS, particularly the Note 7 and S8 ports in the Snapdragon section. I really love those for the scrolling snapshots and S8 launcher (even though I use Nova on my daily device). However, after flashing so many of those and having to use a variety of data fixes to get 4G working, I seemed to have messed up my device. I was having really odd issues, like going from 1X, 3G, 4G, to disabled for several minutes before it would settle and finally connect. I also had issues with text messaging. It would work fine, for a while. Then it stopped receiving messages, but I could still send. I messed with APN settings, which didn't help. I flashed more data fixes and APN fixes I found. Nothing really fixed it. So I figured it was the SIM card. I went to Verizon and admitted it was a custom ROM, but he could see that obviously. He gave me a new SIM card, yet I still had the same trouble. After a reboot, it wouldn't settle on a connection for about three minutes, sometimes more. I still was unable to receive text messages (including MMS) on that device. Even a Nandroid backup did not fix the problem.
Here's what I did to fix it.
I decided it was probably best for me to restore back to stock and go through the rooting process again. Ugh... but I love my phones. I'd do anything to keep them going. Instead of using ODIN to restore back to the original stock, I used the Safe Upgrade for 6.0.1 found below. It's been fixed so it does not lock the bootloader again, but restores everything else to stock, but you get to keep TWRP recovery.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...firmware-safe-upgrade-to-marshmallow-t3402727
I let it boot and go through the process (without signing into anything). Immediately, I realized that my data/4G problems went away. It never flickered even once. I let it sit for 15 minutes once it finished it's initial setup and rebooted back into RECOVERY to flash Kevin's Flashpoint kernel. That gave me root again with Magisk. After a full reboot, I then went into DOWNLOAD MODE and flashed the newest modem (CQI2) using ODIN. Then it was time to settle on a ROM for my use. This time I decided to go back to another International ROM and it appears I'm good to go. Just remember, the Verizon Voicemail app won't be included and usually won't work with an International ROM. I've tried and only was able to get it to work on one of them. It runs, but just will not connect to Verizon properly to access your voicemail. I'd love to find a real fix for that.
Ah... it's good to be working again. Now I can use Titanium Backup to restore my apps and data. BUT I DO NOT RECOMMEND RESTORING SYSTEM DATA. It can only cause problems.
Just a few suggestions for anyone having issues. ALWAYS keep several files on your PC/Device for this type of recovery.
1. Keep the Safe Upgrade to Marshmallow 6.0.1. image. It will be your lifesaver in case something goes wrong.
2. Keep a good working kernel (of your choosing). I prefer @kevintm78 Flashpoint Kernel. It restores Magisk v14 and almost always passes SafetyNet. I keep both stock and port versions on hand (just in case).
3. Keep a good ROM or two (also of your choosing) in order to reinstall a ROM you prefer to use.
4. Keep a working data fix to flash if you're using one of the ported ROMs. Not all are created equal, nor the same at all. Not all of them work. I recommend the Aurora N7 Data fix (Alpha 5 for my N910V): https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69066109&postcount=2681
5. Keep the latest version of ODIN around. You'll need it from time to time.
Last but not least ... try this fix before you start blowing up the forums with questions and complaints about problems you have. I've found that most of the odd problems people experience are caused by using Titanium Backup to restore system settings created from another ROM, or trying to add different mods, which cause issues. Don't blame the developer for issues that you have that no one else has reported. Most likely, it has nothing to do with their software. It's probably something you installed or restored from a previous backup. You can let those old text messages and phone history go.
If you use Titanium Backup, only store system data IF you are using the exact same ROM as before. Otherwise you will experience problems.
I was sure my Note 4 was ready for disposal after the cellular issues I was experiencing. However I'm happy to report it's good as gold now. I'm not sure how much longer these devices will work for us, but I'll never freely get rid of mine. Besides, who else can fix the TV in the bar when the bartender loses the remote? Not very many devices these days have IR Blasters installed. I've used mine at least a hundred times for that very reason. But that's only one reason for loving this device. I could go on, but you already know that Samsung made the best device with the Note 4 models.
I hope this info helps anyone having problems after flashing so many different ROMs. I know, it's hard to settle on only one. Happy flashing and remember ... DON'T PANIC!
