Hello,
I couldn't get an answer on the 'Nexus 7' thread, so I post here quoted:

Hello,
Here's the story, I got a Nexus 7 time ago for the family, created 3 multi users myself being the main account, Nexus 2013 came out so I decided to buy it for my personal use. Now, I want to delete my 'Primary Account' off the N7 and give the privileges to the Second user.
I'd like to know if there is anyway I can do this, be it hard reset etc, but I want to be able to restore data.
Many thanks.

No, unfortunately not. This should also be posted in the q and a section (I'm pretty sure this sub forum has one) ,not in general. You will have to factory reset to do this.
Cheers

I really really want to root, but don't want to wipe as I have my device set up quite nicely.
So quick questions - is there any way to root without unlocking the bootloader? And why does './fastboot-windows oem unlock' wipe the device? I don't remember having to wipe when rooting my SGS2, or SGS, or HTC Desire...

Nope. You have to wipe.

A little public ridicule never hurt anyone.
Joe
So, what is the reason that it does a full wipe?
Umm, if you unlock the bootloader you have complete access to the phone, you can add apps, pull passwords, rip contacts, messages, etc. They don't want someone to be able to do that to your phone without all your data being wiped first. Pretty standard security procedure...

is that because I am in the wrong thread or because I am a newbie?
Why? Because you've supplied no real info about your phone or what you've tried doing etc. You've basically said "I tried to flash a ROM and it didn't work. Any idea why?". Not very informative is it?
And it's besides the point anyway. There are literally loads of guides about to help you (Bortak's being a good start). All you need to do is "search".

The forum rules require to use search. This has been asked and answered many times.
Also there is a big troubleshooting sticky thread in the QA section and yep, its in the wrong section, should be in the QA section.

Sure. You are right about the 'no real info' warning. I had to provide it - no questions about that.
Regarding your 'search' comments, I am not a newbie to the 'internet' or 'search'ing. Before I try to login and post a question to any forum I try to make sure I could not find someone else experience the exact problem and a solution for it.
Anyway sorry for wasting your time guys. This thread can be deleted by the mods.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions &

Given the info it can be anything, but in my short experience, when stuck in boot, a full wipe and re-download of the ROM has usually helped..

How much time did you wait ? First time, some roms take some time. Some patience is required first time.

Maybe they wouldn't have to if people used their brains and used the search functionality... I'm supposing that's probably too much to ask though............

They don't even need to use the search function anymore.. When creating a thread it automatically searches for similar topics...and still they post the same thing..

What's the battery life like?
I get the impression a lot of people sit around trying to think of reasons to start a thread, rather than starting a thread because they have done a search and can't find a solution to their problem.

Yep, I've been a member here since I had an XDA, then XDAII, then IIi, then XDA exec and so on.(lost one account and started again) When I got the G1 I noticed this place becoming a BS-athon, people talking bull, guessing, pretending to know what they're on about. That just got worse and worse. Haven't bothered here after the Desire, only posted twice since then with this being the second. It's a shame, this used to be a good dev community.
It would be better if people had to wait X days before creating a new thread. Lots of these threads, useful or not are started by people only recently registered.
This would force them to look for a suitable existing thread before they clutter the place up!

I'm new to xda-dev, myself. I also had some questions/comments re: Albinoman's JBbeta3 ROM, and thought this _was_ the right place to discuss such. Since I know the dev forum is the wrong place (even though it happens there), and now I'm told this is the wrong place...could someone please point me to where the right place is?
Thanks,
n00b
For questions, I'd say Q&A

Okay, thanks. (A quick glance through the thread titles on this "General" forum reveals plenty of questions, too, so maybe I'm not the only one who's unsure...)
The proper place to ask questions, would be in Albinomans thread. If you didnt want to post there, Q/A would be acceptable. However general is a better place to start a new thread than developement section
i'm using Jellybean beta 3, but the camera doesn't work well

Known issue for all JB ROMs on the Inc, but not listed in the OP. Try to cross reference CM10's OP in the mean time.

You can only post in non development threads. Just help 10 people in the Q&A threads and you will be fine.

Not being able to post is a good time to use the search button. Wont it be awesome to say "I found the answer myself!" ?
A tip : I find the xda app search to k8nd of suck (sorry guys its true) so either use "web view" or what I do isvuse google and put xda as a constant key word.
The thing is, a lot of times everything is found in your devices q&a section. And you dont need to havev10 posts for that.
Also most device forums tell you "all q&a go in the q&a sub forum" as part of the devices forums rules.
Are you like me and love to help ?
(hey dont roll your eyes me! )
Why not hang out in q&a for a bit?
You can help other and ask all your questions!
Great way to build up your post count!

If you have problems and you need the help of others to solve them then more likely than not your question belongs in the Q&A forum for your device. If you want to answer questions then you can do that in the Q&A as well. Either way, you'll either not need 10 posts because you have nothing to post in a dev thread or you'll easily be able to manage 10 posts because you are a dev and find it easy to answer questions.
Be patient...make the posts on home/forum/general,android,Q&A.....you can't on any device on development forum
That is a good point it seems like every where I try to post is not aloud I don't wanna be intrusive on threads just need some help
You wont find any help posting questions in the development threads anyway. All you will get is a bunch of people telling to post in the Q&A section.
I wish there was an easier way myself. I have been coming here since 2010 to read and find answers, but when I recently had an issue I couldn't find discussed I found I couldn't post.
I ubder stand though.

Look through the q&a section and answer questions and help people. You've been around long enough to know stuff, it shouldn't be hard to put out some effort to help..

You've been a member of XDA for three years and this is the first part you've made! Hardly joining in with the community is it!
By now you should be an expert on your device, so get out there and HELP others in your device's forum with their problems. You'll easily get to 10 posts if you share some of your knowledge :banghead:
Man Man..we already have 2 threads with same meaning & different titles.
1st one -> Alternative to 10 post rule
2nd one -> 10 post RULE is it helpful or harmful - Closed
Now, this is created again. I think we must ask MOD to take necessary action.

Well. I had an original Droid back then. I switched over to iOS for some time and now I'm back on Android.
With a Note 2, Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus all rooted and with alternate ROMs I have more reason to stick around now.

And even if they somehow aren't, there are numerous guides for flashing every device so you should never have to ask a question like that in the first place.
