I'm hoping one of you guys can advise.
Recently, I switched from Sprint to T-Mobile via the ETF deal they are having currently. My problem is that I want to also switch my son to T-Mobile. But his phone was obtained from the old One Up promotion that Sprint was having last fall. For those of you not in the know, One Up was kind of like Jump, where you could upgrade your phone every year with no contract.
So anyway, in order to get him to T-Mobile, I'd have to buy his phone outright from Sprint. Problem is, is that I would have to pay something like $400! I don't have that lying around (who does???).
I'd love to get out of this somehow and bring him to T-Mobile. Anyone have any ideas, or am I s*** outta luck?
T-Mobile will spend a Max of 600. To bring him over. 300. For etf and 300. For device so you would just owe sprint a hundred

With One Up he wasn't on a contract, though. There's no ETF to pay.

According to this, it's $143 for a white S4 from Sprint: http://www.t-mobile.com/DeviceRecovery/cell-phone-trade-in.aspx. I'd be better off selling on Swappa or eBay.

Here's a thought: pull out of the One Up deal with Sprint, pay for everything over time. BUT...would they let me do that? And would the phone have a bad ESN until the bill is settled? I would guess it would. But who knows.

After the second missed Bill the phone would be no good till you pay for it unless you use it at another carrier. They they will report your acct to credit bureaus as delinquent and mess up your credit. Just not worth it.

I just got off the phone with a rep dealing with bla bla bla on my phone then i started a convo about the SG3. I told him i am no where near due for a upgrade but i would love to get the phone he stated that sprint has a new buy out program. just to sum it up, sprint would buy my phone back from me ET4G ( in perfect condition)for 300 bucks for right now he said value might drop alil when SG3 release but it should be close to that. I think sprint is pretty cool for sprint to buy back my close to what i want ( unless someone on CL would pay more ) to help me get a new phone without upgrading. hope this helps anyone

Sprint has had Buyback for years now, they just recently started pushing it harder.
I can safely say that the buyback value on the E4GT is not $300, it's $105 like a previous poster said.
You can trade it in at THE SHACK and get $300: http://radioshack.cexchange.com/online/home/index.rails
There may be a deal for it, close to $300, when the sg3 drops.. I remember when the evo3d came out, they had a deal where they bought back your original evo for $150, which was a pretty good for that old of a phone.

I wouldn't count on getting anything close to that once the sg3 is out, or even the evo lte for that matter. Once this phone is not top of the line that price will plummet.

The price is already plummeting because of how slow and behind the times sprint is. I'm soon to sell my e4gt and swap to a gsm model and it looks like the gsm versions go for about 100 more. Kind of sad.

That's not the program they're talking about. That is the buyback value for recycling the old device. Not the amount to pay to get out of a contract.

I have a friend who works at tmobile who said he/she could get me a NIB Galaxy Note II for $450. I want to know your thoughts on if this is a good deal or not. Obviously I know it's a better deal than paying full price. But I want to know if you think it's good enough to upgrade from my sgs3 or not? My wife could care less, as long as she can text and surf Facebook, she's contempt. Btw, she has the HTC MyTouch 4g.

I went in with my just about dead Note 1 (random reboots and freezes even after multiple resets to stalk) and got $150. Might have gotten more on ebay selling for parts (maybe) but no hassle . That's how no ended up with the note 2 which is so much better

I like how most people complain about how much they get on trade in. Seriously? You bought the phone under contract and its used. What do you expect? For att to give you full price on a phone that you might of paid $99 for and used it for 6 months. If you dont like the prices then dont sell it. Easy as that. What we paid for it doesn't matter anyways...as with anything in life. And even if it was bought under contract, you're still paying for the rest of the price over the two year contract.
I guess when I sell my house I should sell for way under it's value because of what I bought it for??

Do the exchange at a T-Mobile store so the can verify the imei and change the phone to your name with your plan. Then the original owner can't claim it stolen.

I just called. I won't lol. Have 4 lines and they told me same thing so I bluffed and said cancel all my lines. They closed 2 lines then a "manager" got on line and said they would leave my discount in place as long as I kept all 4 lines. End result got what I wanted lol.

lol customer care played you. I work for tmobile and it is a system thing. customer care has nothing to do with it. if you do not qualify for the discount after the change the system is taking it off not customer care. they told you what you wanted to hear.

Well as an agent from the company you should know if you promise something you must deliver. That is why I record all my calls with them. God forbid they still don't give me my way I contact the FCC and BBB and I will get my way. I been in business a long time and I have 95% of the time have gotten my way. Most people won't take it as far as I will.

It's not there call all they do is tell you want the higher ups allow. Also your one person with only 4 lines. I am sorry but you mean nothing to the big picture. customer has no way to give your discount when the system removes it. once it is removed there is no way to give you something that it's there anymore. I know it sounds bad but take it from me that sees what tmobile is turning into. they are they next att. Also I am just a RSA. after reading the emails we get about the changes I laugh at how bad I am sure it will get.
