Hi members! Today I'm here to teach you how to root Samsung Galaxy Y GT-S5360.
====Rooting your phone====
1. Download the necessary root package HERE. (I replaced to the latest version.)
2. Copy the downloaded "update.zip" file to the top folder of the microSD card.
(NOTE: DO NOT EXTRACT IT! If you EXTRACT it, it will NOT working for rooting your phone!)
3. If plugged in, unplug the handset from the PC and turn it off.
4. Put it into recovery mode – To do this, press and hold the Volume up key + Home key (the middle button on the front of your device) and press the power button until it goes into recovery mode.
5. Select Apply update from SD card and locate the "update.zip" file you copied to the microSD card. Press the Volume up or down to navigate and then press Home button to select the option.
6. Let the rooting process complete. When done, select "Reboot system now" to restart the device.
Your Galaxy Y should now be rooted!!!
(NOTE: After you rooted your phone, I recommended you to install Root Explorer for game mod and much more!)
If you like this, just click "Thanks" button to me!
Take care and good luck!

you can disable signature verification in cwm if you need to
this is how I root my sgy
download cwm
download valkyrie 1.5
put both zips on root of sd card
put phone into recovery mode (vol up home button power button)
install zip
select cwm
now cwm starts
goto mounts and storage
make sure system is mounted (it will display "unmount system" if system is mounted - if it says "mount system" select it so it changes to "unmount system")
go back and select install zip from sd card
select valkyrie zip
select superuser by chainsdd
restart
this will work on any 5360 stock rom although it may not work with some operator varients

There's a little special in my posted thread. (See the note below in my thread)

There are lots of threads available on rooting this particular piece of hardware, and this thread offers nothing new and/or revolutionary.

I think this thread needs Frequently Asked Questions.. (FAQ)
1. Does it needs root?
2.etc..
and better you ask forum moderator (you know juzz -Justin-) to make this thread as a sticky thread

this thread is important isn't it?

CWM is for flashing custom ROMs
wow cool.
but how to take a backup from my original ROM or Firmware ?!
@JAZMY
reboot to CWM.. turn off, then turn on by pressing vol up + home + power.. you will see SAMSUNG logo, you can release those buttons..
then use:
- home button : to select
- vol up : up
- vol down : down
- power button : go back
before backup, you can select your backup format, tar or dup.. with tar, you'll get the files larger, but there's only 11 files there.. and faster for copying to pc.. for dup, smaller backup (but if you want to do many backups, if just one backup, of course larger).. but hundreds of folders and files, and of course slower for copying to pc
how to select:
- backup & restore ~> choose backup format ~> tar or dup
then go to:
- backup & restore ~> backup or backup to external sd card..
- wait for progress
- back, reboot system now
if you want to move your backup to your pc, just take the "clockworkmod" folder in sdcard or external sd to your pc.. rar or zip it recommended due file safety, but do not compress to high, better do not compress (compress level = store)..
THIS THREAD IS JUST FOR ASKING ABOUT FLASHING CWM WITH ODIN, NOT ABOUT BACKUP OR ETC..
THIS IS AN OFF TOPIC POST.. WANT TO ASKING, MAKE A NEW THREAD ON GENERAL SECTION, OR ASK IN ASKING THREAD..
SORRY @MYDESTINATE
I HOPE THIS IS THE LAST OFF TOPIC POST
@JAZMY I HAVE ANSWER YOUR QUESTION.. BETTER DON'T REPLY

Hi! I have successfully flashed CWM 6.0.1.2 on my device but recently I found out that CWM has updated to 6.0.3.0. Is it safe for me to update my CWM to the latest version using this steps? If I messed up can I just downgrade to 6.0.1.2 by just following your instructions? Im a super noob please help me..
Via terminal emulator is the easiest way. Just download an adb version on cwm thread, extract it with root explorer and follow this step: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1924846

What to do if i put my the root filr into my sd card and update already, and i reboot then it seems the same, why is it so?
Because there is nothing to see, you just give yourself more rights,
just like a administrator in windows.
If everything whent well than you will see a app called Super User.
Just try root checker, you can find it in the market

Updated 11-17-12: Now that we have a stable CWMR image thanks to damien667 this procedure should be a lot less risky and less stressful!
This is confirmed working but due to the procedure involved is risky! The standard XDA disclaimer applies: I take no responsibility for bricked devices due to the following rooting procedure, no warranty express or implied is given, I will not be held responsible if you mess up your tablet by following this procedure!
You must unlock the bootloader before performing this procedure!
Credits: Kidgoo for testing and coming up with the method, thanks to damien667 for the fixed CWM images, and Chainfire for the SuperSu zip and binaries!
Before you begin make sure you read and reread the procedure and fully understand the directions.
1. Download the CWM-SuperSU-v0.98.zip
2. Download damien667's fixed CWMR 6.0.1.6 touch version of from here
3. Connect the Nexus 10 to your computer
4. Flash the CWMR image you downloaded in step 2 using fastboot
Code:
fastboot flash recovery /path/to/<recovery>.img
fastboot reboot
5. Touch "Install from SD Card" in CWMR
6. Select CWM-SuperSU-v0.98.zip that was downloaded in step 1
7. Let CWM-SuperSU-v0.98.zip install
8. Select "Reboot System"
9. Enjoy your rooted Nexus 10 !
To keep your custom recovery installed permanently and not get overwritten by the stock recovery when your reboot your tablet delete the following:
Code:
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
Reserved
works! thank you very much!
Awesome!
Now, if only we could code it so it does it all for us!
1-click and go! Im afraid ill fat finger something and have a $550 paper weight :'(
Thanks for the write up!

With regard to downloading the CWM-SuperSU file (for sideloading) do you mean that it should be downloaded on the tab itself, or downloaded into the same folder as adb and fastboot?

If you download it on your tablet you'll need to then place the downloaded zip on the root of the internal storage (I.E not in a folder). Alternatively you can download it using a computer and connect your tablet to the computer and transfer it to the root of the internal storage that way.
I know this is probably a noob question but the fastboot commands (the first two, for booting from CWRT) -- should they be done in Fastboot Mode or can they be done while Nexus 10 is on and at home screen with USB debugging enabled? If you need to be in Fastboot Mode, how do you get there with Nexus 10?
Thanks!

Ok, the problem I have now is while I have the files on my tablet, I cannot move them to the root of the internal storage at this point...??? Suggestions??? Don't you have to be rooted in order to do this???
For some reason when I'm not in fastboot mode, I can use adb (adb devices lists my Nexus 10), but when I'm in fastboot mode, adb no longer recognizes the device. fastboot devices does however see it when in fastboot mode.
Anybody else have this problem or know why this might be happening? Thanks!
I'm still getting the sideload error after updating the ADB
Any insight, please?
So to others who are working on this and awaiting responses from the OP, where exactly have you placed the downloaded files on your tablet? specific locations?? and if so how did you get them there? I'm totally lost at this point, LOL, hoping to get some clarification soon...
Worked ... however .. you DO have to be in FASTBOOT already (power + Vol UP + Vol DOWN) - yeah it might be obvious when you're not tired as hell - but for those wondering
The first line should be:
fastboot boot /path/to/<recovery>.img
no fastboot reboot was needed - it rebooted itself.
I had a HELL of a time finding the sideload entry in CWM (that's just my brain deadness).
You have quite a bit of time More than enough.
THANK YOU!

How to up date LeEco Le Pro3, no root, no TWRP, 100% Stock

I am a New Pro3 owner, and a old XDA flasher. These days I just want stability and battery life. So given no one is getting OTA updates because the LeEco US office are... well about to close doors? Or at a minimum they are not maintaining the OTA servers as of today (09/06/2017 MM/DD/YEAR). I took it on myself to figure out how to get the updates and how to do them.
What you need:
These three files, nothing else.
5.8.019_sta.zip
5.8.020_sta.zip
5.8.021_sta.zip
Found here.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2EAg2WU3OwpSHRMdEZ0Tks0a3M
It is very simple, but also very finicky.
1. Download 5.8.019_sta.zip, rename to update.zip
2. Place the update.zip on the root directory of your phone storage
3. Go to Settings -> System update (about 3/4 the way down)
4. Top right corner will see three vertical dots, tap the dots and select "local update" (see image)

5. When you select "local update" if you did everything correct it should say "Update package found bla bla bla". Click continue.
That's it, it will load the file, reboot in to recovery and flash the file.
Then just follow this process for each file 19s->20s-21s. Make sure you remove the last update.zip before you put the new one in place.
Now, here is how it can be "finicky". For some reason using an android file manager to rename the files to "update.zip" corrupts the file in some way... and the update once you get in to the recovery section of the auto update fails. BEST PRACTICE IS TO DOWN LOAD THE FILES TO YOUR PC, THEN RENAME IT ON YOUR PC TO update.zip AND TRANSFER TO YOUR PHONES ROOT STORAGE.
Why? no clue, but you can try it either way... but if you find it failing try ^^
Hi, thanks for sharing the files, nuch appreciated.

Just google "5.8.019_sta" (for each one)
You should be able to find the change-log somewhere.
Edward,
Works great! Just some notes for everyone else.
1) Make sure phone is set to MTP (Media Transfer Protocol).
2) If you are using Windows and are 'dragging and dropping' onto the device just copy to the phone icon in file explorer, that will put it at / which is where it needs to be.
3) When I did this and used the local update option, it didn't even prompt for 19S, it just moved forward and started the upgrade and rebooted the phone. All it asked me to confirm was right when I selected local update to 'make sure' I wanted to do it. No version check, etc. I was on 18S, btw.
Are you saying you went straight from 18s to 21s? Without the intermediary updates? Are you bootloader locked or unlocked?
Thanks for all of those OTAs. I was restoring my device to stock and every update kept failing when I tried to manually update it. Note: Update will fail if your OTA is not called update.zip.
IT IS CASE SENSITIVE; in other words, it will fail if you name is 'Update.zip'.
Thanks again and this post should be stickied tbh.
If my phone has twrp and on a custom rom could i use the same steps to go back to stock?
Sent from my LEX727 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Ugh
I could not resist the $199 sale on Amazon despite knowing all the shortcomings. I am starting to regret this decision ... somewhat ... especially since Amazon no longer lets you return phones & can only exchange within 10 days.
Anyhow, I was excited when I got this phone the next day after I ordered it but my 1st frustration was that I could not do any system updates. I read about all the improvements like app drawer & really wanted them but no, it kept saying my system was up to date (still on 18 mind you). Which led me to this thread ... but now my computer will not recognize the Le Pro 3 when I connect it. I tried different USB ports & cords and no luck so far. I also cannot download the above links from my phone so I am kind of stuck @ the moment ...
I do, however, think that I got the work around for the notification issue as they seem to be coming in now, so that's good.
Overall, the phone mostly works so I am not totally mad at this purchase but getting the updates would be nice.
Quick Question: if I try to install Lineage OS, will the phone still have the T-Mobile wifi calling?
Thank you all for this super helpful forum for basic users like me.
UPDATE: Rebooting the phone got my computer to recognize the phone. However, I have followed all the instructions above (downloaded the file, renamed it update.zip, dragged & dropped it right on the phone in explorer, but it still will not find it with the local update.
I downloaded the Cheetah File Manger which shows you the Root Directory, which did not look like where I put mine. So I tried to move it over to the Root Directory but it would not let me paste it there. So close ...................................... calling it a night ...... sigh
i wanted to follow your guidelines but there is no system update in settings in my device. i ve bought it from banggood if that info is useful.
Could you please add check sums for these files.
Thanks in advance!
Try to update my X727 from 5.8.018s to 5.8.019s:
1. Renamed 5.8.019_sta.zip to update.zip and copied it to phone root.
2. From File Manager pressed on update.zip and choose "Upgrade", it has started updating "Upgrading, do not power off the phone".
3. The phone rebooted and entered to Recovery with an error message: "Failed to update! Cause: Installation failed"
4. Presses Back-button and tried again "Update system" and got an error message "Failed to update! Cause: APK not found"
What's wrong?

[Bootloader Unlock] [TWRP] [A7010a48] [Noob]

Overview
Many people asked me on telegram how they can unlock their bootloader and flash TWRP, as obvious I helped them but then again few people asked me... I was wondering telling entire steps again and again will waste a lot of time so I decided why not on xda-developers?
So here it is presenting a "Noob way to unlock boot-loader, flash recovery"
Disclaimer

Downloads1. ADB Driver 1
2. ADB Driver 2
3. Windows 10 Updater
4. ADB Toolkit
5. TWRP
InstallationsNow it's not hard but still like a manual, I have added this. To install the drivers first and most important is to update Windows to its latest release. Extract .rar/.zip files downloaded from the above download section and go to the ADB Driver 1 & 2 folder and look if there is an executable file like .exe/.bat if yes then run it as admin and all set if there isn't then you may see a setup information well simple look for a file ends with .inf extension. If you find such a file then simply open device manager and click on your PC name for e.g my PC name is MINIX and then click on action tab select add hardware legacy --> Next --> Search and install automatically --> Next --> Show all --> Next --> Have Disk --> Browse and then go to the folder where the .inf/setup information file is located click on it --> Next and then it may pop up something like driver signature verification failed for it just move HERE All set ! But I would suggest to do a windows update check again for proper installing of drivers and then restart.
ProcessNow it's not rocket science! Let's begin!
* Update your phone to latest firmware S232 (Necessary)
* Open ADB Folder
* Copy Downloaded TWRP to ADB folder
* Rename TWRP image to recovery.img
* Move to your mobile turn on USB debugging and OEM unlocking (These options are there in developer option)
* Connect USB (Will pop up some prompt, allow for this pc if still not then revoke USB permission and check back! )
* Run .bat file called as unlock_recovery.bat
----------(Your Phone will reboot into fast boot mode and will start Unlocking process just hit volume up key on your phone when you see a prompt written in small letters)---------
* Now open the cmd/PowerShell in ADB folder itself for that hold shift key and right click will see a prompt with PowerShell/cmd click on that if still confused the go-to address bar and type cmd there. That's its!
* Type the commands one by one has listed :
Code:
fastboot devices
fast boot flash recovery
Now its important that you reboot into recovery for the first time just after recovery flash or else you will need to do entire process again … Now to boot into recovery you will have to hold power key & both volume keys at a time until you see Lenovo logo, then release the power key and volume keys. After the TWRP logo, it will take some time! So wait, but if not boot into recovery do all the process again !
Cheers :good: you have successfully installed TWRP now ! If still not then don't worry drop a replay below so that we can assist you I don't want to make money from this so no donations but still if you want to appreciate my work just hit the small button of :good: That's more than enough for me
Q/A
Q.1 My TWRP is removed after I booted back into the system, now what can I do?
A.1 Well, This is a normal thing caused due to a backup made by system of stock recover and you will have to delete it in order to fully use TWRP for that process is simple to download Aroma File Manager Flash this zip into TWRP recovery and you will see a file manager locate to system folder and in that look for a file called as recovery-from-boot.p and delete this file only /-
Q.2 My device is rebooting into TWRP only, what to do?
