Does the Otterbox Commuter series for the atrix have a screen protector like the defender? or should i get some stickers for that?
Yes it comes with one..
The Commuter does come with a screen protector. But if by "like the defender" you mean it is built into the case (adding increased protection from dust), then no. Its a separate screen protector, and I dont use the.
I bought a SkinTech before the InvisibleSHIELD was out, I recommend either.

Are the SkinTech and InvisibleSHIELD protectors something that I apply to the phone...AND THEN slip my phone case over? I've read that the InvisibleSHIELDs by Zagg don't fit very well on the Atrix, nor are they "invisible".

Correct, apply the screen protector before the commuter. Hours, maybe a day before. No need for "full body screen protector" zagg, front is good enough since the rest of the phone the Commuter will cover. You wont have any problems putting the Commuter over the Zagg on the Atrix. (the iPad is a dif story).
Im guessing what you read "doesnt fit well" is the full body protection zagg. The OB will even cover all the edges of the screen protector making it look seamless. Not only does the screen protector add, um, protection. But it IS invisible and also resists glare. Sorry for spelling.

U may wanna check on that again son cause I just got both a new Atrix n a commuter box and the screen protector does covers the buttons at the bottom,
Otterbox Commuter
I have been browsing around for a case for my new Atrix but most of the cases I have found don't seem like they do much in the way of actual protection if they are dropped. The Otterbox however does seem like it could protect from damage quite well, however I'm a little concerned with the size. If anyone could please let know how much weight and size is added to the phone that would be excellent. Or if you think there is a better case that can protect my phone, could you please link it for me?
Thanks in advance
I just purchased the Otterbox Commuter case and I have to say its probably your best bet if you want a good amount of protection as well as not too much bulk added to your phone. It's the perfect balance between the two imo.
You should just go to the store and try it out. Every store I went to they opened the box for me and let me test it out lol.
I'd have to agree, as far as protection goes, Otterbox can't be beat.
But which store did you go to that they had them in stock? I can only find them online and I've always wanted to try the commuter out. I use the Defender but it can be a little too much sometimes.

I've seen them at At&t&T stores, Best Buy, and Sam's Club.
Let me say that the Commuter is the best case i have ever owned. It makes the phone feel absolutely amazing in the hand and offers great protection without the bulk. I had the incipio feather before this and it just wasn't enough so i made the switch and couldn't be happier
Agreed! I've used the Defender, Impact, and Commuter cases for the Atrix, and I like the Commuter case the best.
The Defender case offers a lot of protection but is too big for my use.
The Impact is a silicon case that fits well but didn't really grip tight onto the device (so it tends to peal off more easily than most cases).
The Commuter case, on the other hand, is very slim compared to the other two cases. The combination of the silicone and hard plastic shell makes it comfortable to hold too.

Okay, it sounds like it's a really good case! I'll have to call my BB stores and see if they have any in stock to let me try on before I go and buy one. The ATT store only had Defender Cases, which looked pretty bulky and were $50 there.
Thanks for the responses
If you live in Canada then you can check out WirelessWave, PhoneBooth, even the Bell stores. All three allowed me to try out each variant (Impact, Commuter, Defender).
I first bought a seidio active combo case ( comes with case plus holster ) but then i was able to get the commuter for $19.95. It is a great case and another plus is that it fits into the holster from siedio with no issues.
can anyone confirm if the commuter case will work with the HD dock without the plate on the dock?
Not from I read....I had the Defender for a week and ended up getting the Seidio Surfacehttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004TA9AG2/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B004TA9AGC&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1NY2FH8N4JQ374T8WGT8 with the holster. I also put the anti-glare screen protector on mainly because it resists fingerprints.
I am currently using the commuter case on my Atrix. The screen protector covers the bottom buttons but stops at the motorola words up top. The case itself fits perfectly(been 4 months and no noticeable difference). It is tight and snug and easy to put on. The screen protector is very nice and retains small amounts of finger prints.

Commuter case will not work with any dock because of the flaps. Cut the flaps off and maybe it'll work with the plate off
HI, i recently purchased otterbox defender case and i already have incipio feather and silicrylic case and im still waiting for my rearth slim case and case-mate tough case. what can i say i have case addiction lol i say some review after i purchased defender case and people were saying its a lint magnet. so im wondering if i receive it on 1st of feb should i sell it or keep it? cause im also gonna be buying diztronic case dont know which 1 though. and also the S line case from amazon black color. please share your comments
I have the Diztronic TPU - Matte Black and it is awesome. Make sure you get the version 3 case (the one with the cutout for the volume rocker). Their support and customer service is awesome too. I have it paired with an XO Skin screen protector. It's enough protection for me.
Let us know how the cases are specially the slim case.
I have the Diz 3 and the Otterbox Defender. Both are excellent. I bought the Otterbox for protection when working. When my phone is in it, I feel like its safe. And the thing really isnt that bulky. The added protection outweighs the limited added bulk. Definitely take the Otterbox Screen protector off and use your own. I just popped the thing off but would recommend using a hair dryer to heat up the adhesive first. The only negative is the price. Should have been $39.99 rather than $49.99.
I love the Diz. If I had a holster for it I think I would use it more. The Otterbox stays on just about all the time.
If I had buy one case and use that one forever, there is no doubt in my mind that I would buy the Defender.
Really? I took apart a defender at the Verizon store and its really hard and rough at the connection points inside. I'd be worried about the case scratching the phone up. My old surface case for the nexus s did that. They do make can awesome clip though. For my money, for ultimate protection (other than water) I would hold out for the ballistic sg case that's in the works. I have it for the nexus s and its the best case I've ever used... if you don't mind added bulk.

Ive seen several people mention the possibility of the Otterbox scratching the phone. I'm rough on mine and cant find any scratch, blemmish, etc.
You can always just give it to me. Got any of those cruzer lite cases that are sold out? I do. We could trade.

Hi, i'm searching for a SLIM case, but unlike the Barely There from Case-mate i want it to fully cover the phone.
Is there any around them? my research got no results

try the sgp neo hybrid, its the thinnest dual layer case ive seen. i cut out the backing now so i use it as a bumber case.
hey im like you. i love the barely there case but i also had a problem with it offering just partial protection.
i ended up with the sgp ultra hybrid case. and i couldnt be happier. very slim. very well built. the only thing it doesnt cover is the screen. doesnt add much bulk.
i also have the sgp ultra capsule.. its just too shiny looking for me.

I recommend either one of these. The Ultra Hybrid may look thick, but it's actually thinner than the Cruzer Lite one as much to my surprise.
Ultry Hybrid:

Cruzer Lite:

I like the cruzer lite, it adds a thick enough "lip" over the face of the phone that setting it down doesn't allow your screen to contact the surface you set it on. Plus it's only $9.

I also have this case and I really like it. It's matte, though, so it's not exactly grippy, if you're looking for that.
thinnest and uber cheap case
Hi there,
I'm not quite sure how thin you would like your case to be, but I recently discovered a couple of cases on ebay that may fit your description.
LINK: I'm sorry, I am a relatively new user on XDA and I can't post link just yet. However, you can ebay a seller called "smokydiscount" and keywords: 0.2mm Ultra thin case for galaxy nexus prime. Otherwise, just PM me.
MY OPINION: I really like these cases and they're great for scratch protection. As for drops and bumps, these cases are negligible; your phone will probably be just as damaged as compared to without a case.
PROS:
- Incredibly thin. It's as if your phone doesn't have a case on it
- WILL protect the back from any scratches. You can leave your phone on a rough surface without any concerns
- Very cheap
CONS:
- There is no front lip, meaning if you put your phone face down on a rough surface, beware. However, the case does come with a screen protector which is fairly decent (ALMOST to the same standard as Brando screen protectors)
- For some reason it does make the phone more slippery. The plastic doesn't provide any grip
- The case is very fragile when it is not applied on your phone. I had to get a replacement sent out because the case came to my house cracked, most probably due to the postage and handling.
Despite the cons, this is definitely one of my favourite cases. Check them out.
TPU rubber case with stand on amazon only 3 bucks and it covers everything , just need a screen protector

On Saturday, we headed out to our local mall in an attempt to find a case for our new Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 that we purchased off of Craigslist. As no surprise to us it was easier to find accessories than the actual phone. As you know if any phones are out there, they were probably a pre order. Sprint stores just began selling today.
AT&T had the best selection actually. There were a few Casemate cases, Body Glove, the Samsung flip cover thingamajig, and this Ballistic case. Since there wasn't an Otterbox anywhere to be found locally, I pulled the trigger on the Ballistic case.
On their website it appears that the silicone portions are very well manufactured. You don't see the little ridge going around it (probably from two pieces put together) and the other imperfections. That makes it really look like a premium product. Otterbox pretty much has their manufacturing process down to a science.
One thing they note on the clip is that the device can only be mounted faced towards the inside. This is great, but I do like option on most Otterbox Defender cases where I can turn it outwards. The clip swivels 360 degrees. That's definitely a plus. It's annoying when clips can't spin the full 360 degrees.
Here are some details from their website:
It’s time to live your life to the Maxx. The Samsung GALAXY S III’s minimal and organic design is reflected in the smooth and non-linear lines of the device. Its human-centric nature provides an ergonomic and comfortable experience with enhanced usability.
Our Ballistic SG Maxx Series offers 4 layers of the best engineered drop protection on the market. This baby offers a durable holster, port covers, a no-slip grip, reinforced corners, but most important a replaceable, rigid, screen protector that provides amazing impact protection.
Advanced four layers of protection
Layer 1 - Molded screen protector provides impact protection for your screen
Layer 2 - Ballistic shock absorbent polymer
Layer 3 - Tough impact resistant polycarbonate shell
Layer 4 - Soft silicone equipped with reinforced Ballistic Corners™
Includes lay-on-table feature - screen will not touch the surface when layed flat on a table
No-slip stability when layed face down
Integrated port covers
Extremely durable horizontal holster
Rigid screen protector provides impact protection and is user replaceable

If you really think you're going to stay with this device and case for a while the user replaceable screen protector might be an advantage to you. The plastic screen protector will probably offer more impact protection that a ZAGG InvisibleSHIELD or something similar. However, especially when looking a white screen, you can tell how much worse the view is. You can see all the colors of the rainbow. This does happen with most Defender screen protectors I've seen and to a little extent in other products. Good news here is that you can replace that portion with a ZAGG or whatever you desire.
You can lay the phone face down with this case. I find this handy in office environments where you don't want people to know that everyone including your mother are blowing up your phone with texts or Facebook messages.
I'm not keeping this case, but it does offer a lot of protection. I think I'll keep my S3 sleek and sexy for now.
MSRP $49.99 (cost $50 at AT&T store)
Official Page: http://www.goballisticcase.com/products/samsung-galaxy-s-3-ballistic-sg-maxx-series-case
Ballistic Cases on eBay.
I already know one person who might respond that this is not the SG MAXX case, but it is. Just saying that I honestly don't believe they would push out 10 of these cases to one store with some the wrong labeling.
By the pictures on their site you can see that the plain SG series does not come with a clip AND there is no 3.5mm headphone jack port.
On the bottom, by the capacitive touch buttons I do have a bump that makes it harder to hit the menu and back buttons. On their website neither case has these. They might have made changes. This could be an early production run. I'd hate for them to have added them later. The cut of the silicone just isn't clean in my opinion, and I'm really not a big stickler on stuff. It just looks like something with a made in China sticker.
Man i used Ballistic with all my other fones seems they dropped the ball with the one for the S3 what were they thinking with the clearance of the buttons

This is a nice comparison of the Ballistic case for Galaxy S3 vs Otterbox Defender. They show the size difference also
http://smartphonepedia.com/galaxy-s3-otterbox-defender-vs-ballistic-case.html
I just picked up the regular SG case for my S3 and I am not really impressed. My biggest gripe is that there is no protection for the camera. I was wondering if the SG MAX or otterbox case provided these.
Also, the SG caused my SD card to mount and un-mount very rapidly. Not sure what was happening there. The SG case is also causing my ArmorSuit skin to peel around the edges.
My experience with the S3 has been less than ideal.
The silicone feels very cheap on this case and that screen protector is the dumbest thing ive ever seen. Hi guys,
I bought the galaxy nexus.
since i'm in the millitary I want to protect the phone perfectly and I though about the otterbox defender.
BUT I've seen on youtube a video that shows how the case scratchs the top of the device, the bottom and around the front camera.
I wanted to know if there is someone here has the case and could recommend me buying this or not.
thanks
Because the defender's inner frame is hard plastic, debris like sand and dust can become lodged between the frame and the device, causing scratches.
The otter box commuter has a silicon inner layer, and won't have this issue.
If you want a case LIKE the defender, maybe the trident krakken case will work? Its very similar to the defender.

I bought a OtterBox Defender based on my good experiences with OtterBoxes for iPhone.2 weeks into owning the case,I decided to remove it and found that a lot of dust got accumulated in the the case and the phone was scratched at the top.Not only that,I found out that the plastic frame of the screenguard had broken on one side.I'd advise you to not buy the Defender, instead something like the Trident Kraken.

That ballistic shell case looks pretty good. The Seidio Active is another great case( http://www.seidioonline.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus-active-case-black-p/csk3ssgnlk-bk.htm).I haven't used it though.
Thanks for this thread. I was going to buy one as I do for all of my phones. Bet I've owned six defender cases.
After reading this and the reviews on otterbox.com I think I'll buy a trident case.
I had a ballistic on the infuse I had. Was a nice case.

Balistic cases dont have the port covers, which is a must for me.
The Defender was my first case, I was told in the VZW store that it might scratch the phone due to trapped dust, but it was better than nothing on day 1. I liked it alright but after a few months the clips started breaking, I bought the Kraken as a replacement.
The Kraken is an alright case, a little bulkier than the defender. I liked that it offered the same protection as the Defender, I disliked how the front LED was half covered. In the end - it was too bulky for me to keep it on forever, I would still use it if I wanted some super extra duty protection.
So I got the Commuter, I have had Commuters for my Captivate and Atrix so I am familiar with their design and function. The gnex Commuter is the same as past Commuters, if you've had one before you know how it works. (This is not true for the Defender) I've had the Commuter on for the past 6-8 months and will not be switching again. It DOES protect the screen to an extent, I have dropped my phone allot and there are no blemishes on the phone or screen or Commuter. I do have a Zagg applied, not the protector that comes with the OB. If I had it to do over I would have bought the commuter first and it would have been the only case I needed. It offers plenty of protection with minimal bulk.
