Need some help with troubleshooting a problem that started after installing Slim Bean 2.8, though I don't think it is the fault of the rom.
A few days ago I got tired with the ICS custom rom I had on my phone and decided to try one of from the original development section of this forum. The GPS worked flawlessly so far, turing on the toggle on the status bar and then going into google maps would locate me within 5 sec. The icon for the satallite would also show up in the status bar.
Then yesterday I flashed the Slim Bean 2.8 and was super exited about the look and feel of the rom, but when I tried to use navigation the app kept saying 'searching GPS signal'. I then tried toggling the GPS icon in the task pane and even re-installed the rom and performed a factory reset, but nothing helped.
Today I installed a GPS diagnostic app from the play store and while it says GPS ON it never finds any satellites. Then I performed the last desperate move and flashed the stock ATT rom with root inejcted via ODIN. Still GPS is not working.
Am I missing something? Could it be that the phones GPS is defective?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I'll give that a shot. Just hoping I can remember which one of the leaks I may have installed. I'll report back if it works and send a thanks your way.
Flash to stock lg1, unrooted. Then do a factory reset from the settings menu, not recovery. Pull everything off your internal card that you want to keep, this will erase/format your internal card
******THIS WILL ERASE YOUR INTERNAL CARD*****
I had the same problem after flashing a sprint based leak. But, that procedure fixed everything for me.

Sure enough I flashed back DG's JB Sprint leak and the GPS icon is back and locks within seconds. Now I just need to revert back to stock and then reinstall one of the CM10 releases.

Hello everyone,
I need some immediate help please. I flashed GalaxyMod TouchWiz ROM (coming from Vanilla RootBox). I flashed because I was looking for a more stable ROM and started having the following issue:
After the flash I only get 3G for roughly 5-10 minutes. After about 5-10 minutes LTE finally activates. This persists through ROM flashes. This happens after every reboot and after toggling airplane mode.
I have since flashed Task650's AOKP and CM10.1 and the above issue is still present. I have checked my APN settings, which are on PTA. I also checked my preferred network and this is where I noticed an oddity. It is stuck on WCDMA preferred for the first 5-10 minutes and then finally changes by itself to LTE / GSM/WCDMA.
Steps I've taken so far:
1.) Flashed the LTE fix (while still on GalaxyMod ROM) which was provided in the GalaxyMod thread. This made no affect on the issue at all.
2.) Flashed new modems, no affect at all.
3.) Wiped Cache, Dalvik Cache, Factory Reset, System, Internal Memory and Data, reflashed a new ROM, no affect.
I never had any delay in connecting to LTE prior to flashing GalaxyMod, and now I get it on every ROM I flash thereafter.
What can be causing this? I am thinking the only thing I can do is Triangle Away, ODIN back to Stock and send it to Samsung.
If you have any suggestions at all, please let me know. I am desperate to get this working.
At the time of this post I'm running TWRP 2.4.1.0, CM10.1 and the packaged CM Kernel that comes with the ROM.

Running galaxymod right now and in DFW area with great LTE coverage and never had the issues you had or any for that matter. Somehow in the flashing, I'm going to get real technical here right now , something got borked that isn't affected by flashing a new ROM. We could give to several things to try but honestly flashing back to factory out of the box and starting from there is the only fail safe way to do it. probably faster too. That's I would do

Thanks for the reply. I just downloaded root-injected stock and am flashing as we speak. If this doesn't work, I'm going to flash back to bone-stock and see how that goes. I'll report back and let everyone know =)

Did you check to see if your IMEI is missing?
I had the same issue on GalaxyMod. I had to do a clean install of the ROM, apply KT's kernel, and apply the LTE fix BEFORE I rebooted. I could not tell from your post if you did a clean install of GalaxyMod. Then I checked my IMEI and it was missing, so I performed the fix found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801997 and repeated the steps above. Worked for me as I get LTE speeds now on GalaxyMod.

I'm getting LTE speeds, problem is after toggling airplane mode or rebooting the phone it takes up to 10 minutes for LTE to activate. I fresh installed GalaxyMod, wiped everything possible in the wipe menu of TWRP with the exception of external SD.
I also applied the LTE fix before I booted GalaxyMod, but I did not flash KT747. I prefer to not flash that kernel because it has the updated BT/WIFI drivers and had a warning that I would need to back those drivers up if I ever wished to revert. I don't really feel like going through all of that lol.

I've seen quite a few "flash back to stock, then flash AOSP" fixes to get your GPS working. All you have to do to really fix the GPS is:
1. Backup your stock ROM's EFS through your recovery. (Do NOT wipe prior to doing this.)
2. Wipe
3. Flash AOSP based ROM.
4. Restored your ROM's EFS through your recovery's advanced restore.
Done.
GPS is my ROM's Bane!

So, I am having a GPS issue that I've been unable to solve through any of the numerous method's posted around XDA (my primary source of all things android) and related sites. It could be a simple solution, but I've exhausted my very limited knowledge and am hoping you have some input or suggestion...
I'm on the LS970 and in an over-caffeinated moment, I fully wiped the stock ROM without a backup. I know that is totally stupid, and have been much more careful with my fingers since then. :silly: I have been unable to get a GPS lock on Spleef's Carbon 4.3 20131020 (or any previous), so tried to factory restore and TWRP flashed a ZV9 ODEX (failed install), ZV7 STOCK (failed install) and SPR-ZVB which flashed successfully but gave me FCs and reboots everytime I opened an app that would get a GPS lock. I have tried the FasterGPS, GPS Status and Toolbox, and edited my GPS.conf. Since I can't get back to factory, I need another way to get to a "factory-enough" for a GPS lock...
Any ideas? I think maybe there's a path/process to follow to be able to go from AOSP to stock that I'm not doing, but I have no idea what it is.
Fingers Crossed!
I was having the same issue with Bean Stalk then carbon also. using the app GPS essentials it would show 0 satellites in the sky even though GPS was enabled.
I flashed the Optimized ROM in the DEV section and this did bring back the GPS functionality.
just an FYI since your stock ROM is gone.

You have SAVED MY WORLD!! HUURAAAAYYYYY!!!!!! :highfive:
The OpTimized ROM was PERFECT in bringing back my GPS, it locked in seconds. It took me a few tries to get it active on Carbon4.3, so I'm going to give my "steps" for successful completion.
I FULL WIPED before flashing OpTimuS_V4.4 (ODEX) - that's Data, System, Dalvik and Cache. (Obvious? I first ran a full TWRP Backup of the system, data, boot)
Then I flashed, booted, and let it go through its process. It took its own "soft reboot" which I thought would turn "Bootloop" but it did NOT... rebooting to the "Semi Stock OpTimuS" perfectly. It did the "Activate" process on its own.
Then - I went to System Updates. PRL first, then Profile. Then the VITAL UPDATES were Google Maps and Play Services.
After this, I rebooted to let it reacquaint, and then installed FasterGPS, using it to clear the current aGPS. Next, installed FreeGee.
Opening the updated Google Maps, I IMMEDIATELY got the lock, but let it sit for 5 minutes. (reset "display time" to 5 minutes to keep track.)
Next - AFTER the GPS locking for 5 minutes, I did a backup of EFS with FreeGee. If you have PREVIOUS BACKUPS on the Internal Storage, they need to be replaced. This can be easily done with ES File Explorer, or any which allow root access. Go to the active (sdcard on LS970) FreeGee, copy the EFS settings, and replace those in the "/0" or Legacy FreeGee folder.
This may be "overkill" but I went back into Google Maps, got a Lock again, let it sit a few minutes and "tested" the navigation function.
While still in Maps, I powered down. Booting into Recovery (I use TWRP), I ran a RESTORE of my TWRP Backup, since the backups aren't "install" compatible. My fear was the "Restore" would override my updates, but when you run it, just "uncheck" EFS in the restore choices and you're :good:.
My LS970 booted up LOVELY, ran its normal boot process, and when I opened Google Maps .... ~*Aaaaaaaahhhhhh~* light from the Heavens! It locked FAST, and the Nav even worked!!
I have been trying to find this Fix for almost TWO MONTHS so I am on Cloud 9 right now!! Thank You @etownguy!!!
GPS locking issue
Hello all,
I am an intermediate novice at flashing, but Ive gained some knowledge over the recent years here and there. Heres the issue, I am running into the same issue as euphoric fuzion except I have exhausted all that I know. I rooted, unlocked bootloader and flashed my ls970 without creating an official Rom backup or backing up my EFS- I know, not bright of me. After using my new roms I realized that MY GPS isnt locking. So, Ive done everything from writing new NPS locations in gps.conf, attempting to go back to stock via LGNPST-Ive used the auto option, Flash tool and they dont seem to recognize my phone via download mode but the drivers are installed-pc recognizes. One flash tool actually recognizes my phone as another model. Ive tried to flash stock based Roms-one ins particular at no suceess-symlink failure. Attempted to flash ZVC stock based Rom with Firmware flash- the phone remains in bootloop from my previous ROM. In order to use the phone I have to reinstall CM11- my fav for now- but I cannot lock my GPS with out SPrints PRL update, or network update for my profile. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
Hey guys,
So a couple of weeks ago, I got a One and I unlocked everything and put CM10.2 on it. Yesterday, while needing the navigation to try and get un-lost, I couldn't get my phone to get a GPS lock at all, even while having a clear view of the sky and everything. I am running CM10.2 and CWM 6.0.4.5. I have already tried clearing and redownloading the AGPS data and that didn't help. So I found a comment saying that I should flash back to stock and change the location settings and the preferred network setting to see if that changes anything.
I found the stock ROM .zip on this forum, 1.10.605.10 (4.2.2/5.0) and tried flashing it after checking the MD5. That ended up not working at all, it starts but then fails saying that it can't open the update .zip and also says "(bad)".
Now I am trying to download 2.10.605.1 (4.3/5.0) and I will try that tomorrow.
The reason I posted is to ask 1) if anyone was able to fix the GPS problems without having to flash back to stock and 2) what I needed to do to flash back to stock if that's the only option that I have? I don't want to mess anything up and I am still kind of inexperienced at this.
Thanks!

The only option is to flash back to Stock to fix your GPS issues. You probably need to use a different recovery either from TWRP or Clockwork depending on the one that doesn't work to flash it.
Hello all!
At the request of Santod, here is a separate thread to discuss the SMS issue some of us are experiencing with his 5.0.1 GPE ROM.
The original ROM thread can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...m-google-play-edition-lollipop-v1-00-t2963841
For some of us, flashing this ROM makes sending SMS messages work intermittently. Some experience that only the first message successfully sends, then all subsequent messages fail. Personally, I've tried flashing v. 1.02 three times to no avail. My most recent attempt was after re-flashing updated firmware and radios.
Let's figure this out!
As an update, it would seem that disabling both cellular data (In Settings -> Data Usage) and setting the preferred network to 1x (In Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> More -> Cellular Networks) seems to stop SMS from failing.
I've attached screenshots of my current settings.
Perhaps this helps!!!

Damn. I'm glad there's SOME way around it, but hopefully a more convenient and more permanent solution comes along soon. This is the only ROM on any phone that I've been 100% satisfied with. Well I mean, it was perfect until I started having the SMS issue.
OP.
Can you pull a log cat after you sent 2 messages before the work around. i wonder if i can see something that i can help with. lmk

Sorry if the log is a bit of a mess (never pulled one before).
Two messages were sent on a fresh boot, one succeeded. One failed.
Let me know if I can be of any more help!
Setting to 1x and disabling data allows SMS for me too. So weird.

Headed home now. Will take a look at it.
Problem Flashing Stock recovery
I'm having the SMS problem. I tried the method of flashing stock recovery and then factory resetting. I flashed the stock recovery and it seemed to flash ok, but when I go into bootloader and select recovery, the screen goes blank and then after a bit, an image of the phone appears with an red triangle and exclamation point on it. So I can't get into recovery. I reflashed TWRP recovery and I can get into that fine, but when I flash stock recovery, it still doesn't work. The stock recovery I'm using is https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23622183712472879
Any ideas?

You don't need to do anything else with the stock recovery. You have to have it in order to do the stock factory reset. After you do the factory reset go back to twrp and flash the ROM again.
Well add me to the list of people having this problem. Setting it to 1x network only also allows me to send texts temporarily until I turn it back on LTE. Has a reset with the stock recovery been working for many people or was it a new idea that you decided to try greiland? Has anybody else restored their text history with titanium backup? I did and am wondering if it is a problem. I went from a fresh flash from 4.4.3 stock with all of the OTA firmware so I'd be surprised if it is something that requires a factory reset.
Also what recovery did you guys use? I flashed it with 2.8.1.0 and I had to do it twice before it would let me boot.

Stock recovery factory reset did not fix it for me.
---------- Post added at 11:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:13 AM ----------
I'm doing the stock recovery reset based on Santod's advice (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55930057&postcount=1553). There's a lot of discussion about it towards the end of his Lollipop thread and his GPE 4.4.4 thread.
It just started happening to me within the last few days. Only thing I've done to my phone right before it started happening was I upgraded to Santod's GPE Lollipop V1.02 edition (dirty flash from 1.00) and installed the NuK3rn3l V2.00 kernel. The other thing I did was I restored an old Titanium backup of my SMS messages from a 4.4.4 backup. Maybe that hosed things up? But I've done full wipes, stock factory resets since that and it won't fix it. Only thing that fixes it is restoring my nandroid backup of the [ROM][4.4.4] NuSenseSIX-ART Edition that I had before upgrading to Lollipop.
This may have already been suggested but using an alternative texting app like Textra doesn't work. This is getting so freaking frustrating.
For me, coming from a fresh flash on mdmower's TWRP 2.7.1.2 and not restoring any messages (I don't use Titanium or any app backups) still presents the issue. App doesn't matter (I've tried stock messaging, Google Messenger, and Textra).
There is a logcat a few posts back that I pulled when the issue occurred as well.
Just an FYI from my experience thus far!

Have you tried the factory reset with the stock recovery too? I've thought about it but its a lot of work to do if it isn't doing the trick for anybody else here.

I'm in the same boat. If the stock recovery fix hasn't worked for others, I wonder if it's worth the work.
I think I'll give it a try as a last ditch effort if the logcat I uploaded doesn't yield any insight into the issue.
Not saying Tibu is or isn't the cause of the problem.
But my gut always tells me folks with this issue did just that.
Restored messages with tibu.
Are there residual side effects that continue to booger you up once that's been done, even after a full wipe?
I don't know, but restoring messages with Tibu is about the worst thing ever and has always, always, always created issues.
I won't even touch Tibu personally.
Haven't since a bad experience years ago, and never will again.
It causes more grief then it saves me.
That's my opinion on Tibu...
