Sprint ps970zvc - Sprint LG Optimus G

I DOWNLOADED ALL THE FILES(LG DRIVERS,CM11, GOOGLE APPS) FOR THE ROOT PROCESS, I AM ON LG SPRINT OPTIMUS G 4.1.2 AND CLOCKWORK MOD RECOVERY ALWAYS SAYS "ERROR OCCURED WHILE FLASHING YOUR DEVICE" so i can not root it at all. ive looked everywhere but nothing works.so I CAN NOT BE GRANTED SUPERUSER ACCESS UNTIL THAT ERROR GOES AWAY I SUPPOSE..NEED HELP.
When I FIRST OPEN UP ROM MANAGER WITHOUT ANY ACTIONS IT SAYS "SUPERUSER WAS NOT FOUND GOOGLE IT"

So you're on stock right now? And it is ZVC right? And you updated via updates or LGNPST, right?
If all of the above is correct, ... are you using the KK recoveries?
If you are, then when you flash the ROM you may need to install the flashable SuperUser.
If you're just trying to root and unlock your phone, look in the Development section for the root guide. You must be on stock to root/unlock your phone. If you used Freegee to unlock them you'll have the required recovery to flash KK ROMs.

Ok first off, sheesh on the all caps bro - don't need to yell! lol. I am a little confused though. You downloaded all the files but how did you actually try to root? I'm confused because you say clockworkmod recovery says "error while flashing your device" but it's my understanding that you can't even install CWM without having root access. Can you still get back into your stock? If you can, look at your apps, if you see Superuser or SuperSu then you are rooted. If not, you have two options - use the Framaroot app that you can find in the play store. Install that and use the Gandalf exploit. Option two is to use Fiddy619's Universal root method, just search the general section here and you should find it. I have tried both and both have worked successfully. After that, you need to unlock your bootloader in order to install CWM or TWRP correctly. The easiest method is to install another app from the play store called "FreeGee" and use the sbl unlock method. It will unlock the bootloader and install either CWM or TWRP for you, your choice. If you have any questions or run into more problems just let me know and I'll help dude.
EDIT: @engine95 is much faster than I.
EDIT#2: I type too much, Lol! Also, I haven't used FreeGee in awhile and keep forgetting it's been overhauled - not sure if you even have to pick sbl unlock or it's just become the default.

Just barely. Besides... 2 heads are better than one.

Stop using Toolkits....
If you have a custom recovery you can download a SuperUser.zip and flash that.. this should give you what you want. Or you can download a Custom Rom and just flash that... problem solved you also dont have to go through the process of deleting the stock-recovery.sh that runs and kills your custom recovery.
I already fixed it but thanks for the reply and I should be not using tool kits thatsbfor sure but what do you mean about a custom recovery? How would I install that? So I would install the custom recovery then flash the su file and then flash a new from is this correct?

If you want to find out if your rooted check Play Movies. It will say ur appeared to be rooted and refuse service to the device.
The toolkit is amazing. I don't know why someone wouldn't recommend using it.
CWMR is a emergency thing in my opinion. It saves my butt countless amounts of time. U can flash it with Rom Manager, CWMR touch, and Rom Toolbox.
They are all available in the play store.
The toolkit isn't recommended because people don't learn things themselves. OP go superuser and see if things are given root or denied.

Downloaded v9 oops, how can i dismiss it?

So like the title says i decided to check for the v9 update and when it showed that it was available i hit download before i realized about the bootloader unlock and root. So how do i get it to think its not there? I tried deleting the file it downloaded from cache but still showes and even just asked me if i would like to install now or later.

So this v9 update...does it really ruin are chances of rooting in the long run?
idk how i got here...
At the moment there is no publicly available method to root v9. If you want to root after v9 has been installed you need to use LGNPST to get back to v8. Then you can use the method on these forums to root.

If you've deleted the file from the cache the next time the notification comes up click to install. That's going to cause a fail, and it won't notify any longer. I believe clicking install takes you to an intermediary page asking you to install again, not sure. This method worked for me.
Edit -
This i a quick fix eventually it's automatically redownloaded, and you have to go through the process again. Best bet is the fix above liked to by Marty.

[Q] Is it ok to do this update?

i have been getting this update notification for the last couple days, and it wants me to upgrade my lg optimus g from LS970ZVB to LS970ZVC. The phone is rooted i might add, is it safe for me to do this update without losing the root access?

You'll probably loose root. If you have ANY custom ROM installed even stock, I wouldn't do it without first restoring the original stock software.

It is safe to update but, you'll lose root. The good news is that you can unlock and root your phone using the same method as ZVB.

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but it did not install at TWRP
Stock LS970ZVB that has been unlocked. Treat me like I'm 5. When I get to the TWRP screen, what should I be doing?
And how do I get it to tell me to update again? I remember there was a way to make it search for updates (but some sort of cache needed to be cleared before it would look again, etc)?
thank you

If I remember right, if it didn't install, and you rebooted, i think it disappears. With a root explorer, look in /cache or /cache/fota and see if it's there. If not, you can get the update in the root guide. Follow the instructions to manually update.
I can't remember what to clear to get the update again. Try update profile/prl, then lg update.

I found what to do, but I don't recommend it:
"go to Google services framework….force stop it….clear data and then leave then try to update"
It downloaded the update, then rebooted, and didn't go to TWRP this time. Just straight to the Android with his belly open and the crystal turning. It fails after 30% and you have the Android on his back with a red triangle that has an exclamation point in it. I've rebooted three times and it fails everytime. If I let it sit, instead of rebooting, it eventually go into a normal boot and everything loads on the phone fine, but it's still ZVB.
I will attempt your guide later tonight. Thank you for your help and I pass the above information on not as a complaint, but as a warning of something that might *possibly* happen to others.
Is there a way to stop the update notification?
I did root the phone as well, but I really don't want to install this new upgrade just yet. The update notification is driving me nuts, there are time where it pops up every 10 min or so. I tried freezing some processes, but it always comes back. Does anyone know what to do so I can completely stop it for a while? Also, I can't find the location where this upgrade is saved, tried /cache and the SDCARD but no luck. thanks for any help that anyone could provide!

For those like me who don't know much, the instructions in the link above work
Disable nag screen - 1. Not for sure. Go to /system/app, rename/delete LGFOTA.apk/odex. 2. Edit the build.prop - theres 3 references to ZVB. Change them to ZVC
but you will need to remount /system, I found that x-plore can be allowed to run as su and automatically remount read only systems. I edited the file from there and changed the 4 references from ZVB to ZVC and reboot.
Thanks again!

Also updating a ROM based on ZVC for a ZVB will do it too. Learned that last week. Lol

I have root access but lack the ability to boot to recovery!

I'm currently running the stock Rom with build E98020h. I have successfully achieved root access and have verified it through several apps, and also have supersu installed and seemingly operating fine. I have tried using the 'g pro kitkat recovery' app to flash the recovery, and also freegee but freegee at the opening screen says my device is unsupported. When i go into rom manager v5.5.3.7 and try install a custom rom or even just tap boot to recovery i get an error at the loading screen with the LG logo and it sits there. Am i doing something wrong or is the 20h update keeping me from being to successfully reach recovery? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

You could try using LG Flash Tool to go back to stock 4.1.2 (E98010k) and then using FreeGee to bypass and go from there. But idk if that'll work.

I don't think that's possible. You're going to have to flash back to an older version using lg flash tools. If you need to back up anything like texts and contacts, use G Cloud. If you need game data/other data related to specific apps backed up, use Helium. If you're attached to stock try flashing a stock ROM, it will be very similar to your experience now. That'll ensure you get the latest KitKat and still get stock experience... you can always go AOSP too.
thanks... I was hoping to just not have to Flashtools my phone again =P and since its been a while since I checked the forums I wasnt sure if 20h was sorted out yet or not.

OK so I found that G Pro KK recovery elsewhere and installed it but wasn't sure what to do from there.. Which option did you choose when running it? Flash recovery, reboot, or reboot recovery? All the APK does as I have found out is 'unlocks' the recovery access. After I ran that app I installed Freegee from the app store and installed the CMW recovery from there just to make sure it all was installed and correctly accessible. at that point you just need to download the ROM that you are intending to install and download it. put the zip somewhere in your directory. boot to recovery wipe the necessary mediums and then install from the app and CWM will take care of the rest. Most of the forum threads that have the links to the ROMs will have full instructions on how to install that certain ROM. I can supply links to some if need be. NOT MY THREADS but ones I found helpful.

Yes. Open and run the G Pro Recovery app, once that is done you need to reboot. Install Freegee and open it. I installed CWM. You can use whatever you want. Then I reboot again, once the phone comes back up I used clockwork mods recovery manager to get in and out of recovery. Also, I pulled my SD card out of the phone prior to rooting as I would lose access to it after I did the process. So just to be safe you might want to do that.

I found this elsewhere trying to unlock my e980 that was on 20h when I got it.
OK so I found that G Pro KK recovery elsewhere and installed it but wasn't sure what to do from there.. Which option did you choose when running it? Flash recovery, reboot, or reboot recovery? I tried to reboot to recovery and I got into a CWM recovery, but at that point wasn't sure if I was really there or if I needed to flash the recovery from there or from the app.
I'm dying to get rid of the stock ROM on this thing but there are more steps involved than my previous devices.
Thanks!

If you just want to install the recovery, get an app call flashify from the play store. Install the app, then download and then flash the twrp .IMG file that you've gotten from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3144369
