the default location is /data/cust/media/
you can put anywhere you like though, but I cannot guarantee it will pop up when the device turn on..
I have changed it but when I turn on the phone i still get first an image of my phone carrier Movistar, and the then bootanimation.
How can i change the first one??

the boot logo often came with the operator/telephone company, was embedded in the boot image... it's rather difficult to change it..
I haven't got time to play with it.. perhaps you can find some information somewhere out there.. browse 'boot logo'

Hi trikomlabs
i use that bootanim but the original from stock ad sound, this one dont has sound. how to get it? btw, mahy thanks! xD
From B506 KK, i rooted with vroot. But for some reason my bootanimation is changed to a different "android" one. Now using root explorer i dont see the existence of such a "/data/cust/media" location. I did a search of the whole device and it showed up several folders that contain the bootanimation.zip file. So which one do i have to replace ?
Create cust folder in data and inside folder create media folder, copy bootanimation.zip in media .
Change permission : cust folder______ drwxr-xr-x
media folder_________ drwxr-xr-x
bootanimation.zip ____ -rw-r-r-

Could you expand on the permission part ? On long press option, i just see permission for read, write and executable. I dont get what "drwr-xr-x" is.

It must be a .zip file!
When you copy that in /system/media you need to set permission: rw-r--r--
thank you very much, inside system/media there was no bootanimation.zip file.... i coied the file to that directory and ready! thanks a lot!

Can anybody help me on How to enable Bootsounds on 2.1 ROM's like MCR 4.0 or ChoclateEclair
On some ROM's you'll find a folder in /system/media called bootanimation .
In that folder is a bootanimation.xml which holds the settings for the bootanimation, including the option to enable a bootsound.
This does not work for every ROM.
Edit: in the new official taiwanese-release of 2.1 the bootanimation is in /system/customise/resource

Ya I know that But the audio and the .zip thing is there, but I'm not able to locate the .xml file for boot animation.
That's because there isn't any. Put an mp3 file named android_audio.mp3 in customize/resource and it should play on boot automatically.

^ that would be data/local instead depending on what ROM your using The bootsound you can take from another ROM with a bootsound... Just extract it

Any Help! Same problem Here
I am having trouble installing the new Prime Boot annimation..
i flashed the zip but nothing happens .. the same boot annimation that came with the rom is still there.. ?
Unless specified...you don't flash a the bootanimation.zip. Using a program like Root Explorer navigate to the System-Media folder and rename the stock bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.bak. That way if you ever want to go back to stock just change the end to .zip.
Then, copy the bootani you want to change to into that same folder. If you're using Root Explorer...long press on the file and change permissions to RW-R-R. Reboot and enjoy your new boot animation.
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/10/08/download-nexus-prime-boot-animation/
The boot animation from the Nexus Prime aka Galaxy Nexus that was teased to us earlier in the week is now available for everyone to play with. The instructions we have are for flashing in Clockwork Recovery, but if you aren’t rooted, you will have to do it the old fashioned way by extracting and moving the bootanimation.zip into /data/local or wherever your particular phone pulls media from.
Sexy, isn’t it?
Download: Nexus_Prime_Boot.zip
Instructions:
1. Download the file from above an drop it on your SD card.
2. Reboot your phone into recovery.
3. Choose “install zip from sd card.”
4. ”Choose zip from sd card.”
5. Select the file you downloaded from above.
6. Once it finishes running choose “Go Back” and then reboot!

Boot animations that are appropriately formatted will work with your phone. The boot animation is not dependent on your kernel, so yes it will.

Try system/customize/resource then. You might have to rename it VZW_bootanimation. Whatever it is rename it that. Just installed it. Its actually pretty cool. Theyre getting better at not sucking when it comes to bootanimations.

My guess is find it in the filesystem with a root explorer and put your desired file in using the same audio format and renaming it to the original.

Look for a mp3 to ogg converter on the play store.
Also, search before doing stuff like this. Google is magic
You should try actually converting your soundbyte to .oog rather than just renaming the file
sorry for the spam message i worked it out thanks every body
British graphic designer Christian Tailor created this awesome animation of stylized Marvel and DC Comics heroes and villains, and now you can use it as the boot animation on your Android device.
It was later turned into default start up animation by Brian Roberts
HTML:
https://plus.google.com/+BrianRoberts
and later into a flashable zip by Ronald Valdes
HTML:
https://plus.google.com/+RonaldValdes
.
Now all I did was I took Christian Tailor's bootanimation which was 1080p and converted it into 720p which will fit perfectly on S3 or any 720p devices.

Install Instructions:
1. Your device need to be rooted. It won't work if your device is not rooted. How to root? Please check online. I hope samsung device users have custom rom with root and not stock rom with root. I have no idea how it works in other brand android devices, so proceed only if it is similar process as you find below.
2. This is not a flashable file, so you have to copy it into your system/media .
3. Use X-plore, make sure you have root access. To get root access, press configuration. Under Root access, select superuser + mount writable. I only know how to do this in xplore, i don't know how it works in other apps. So sorry. I will let you know how it works in other apps.
4. Now go to root/system/media and you will find bootanimation.zip . Copy it to your internal/external memory.
5. Delete the bootanimation.zip from system/media.
6. Now copy the dcmarvel720pbootanimation.zip to system/media and rename it to bootanimation.zip .
7. Now reboot your device.
8. Now Enjoy.
[By the way, I really don't know if I was allowed to post this or not. If I was not allowed, please comment here, and also I am sorry, I will remove it as soon as possible. If I am allowed then thank you. Please support the original people who did it.]

In system/media, remove the previous boot animation. Either delete it or just copy it to your internal memory, but you will have to delete it in your system/media. Now save the dc-marvel bootanimation zip to system/media and rename it to bootanimation.zip
Now try rebooting. Hope it worked.

it only works if you use both root and a custom rom,
as said in the instructions, make sure you have given superuser mount writable permissiom. Either delete the bootanimation.zip from you system/media or copy the bootanimation.zip to your internal memory or external memory if available.
now copy paste the dcmarvelbootanimation.zip to system/media and rename it to bootanimation [make sure it is still in zip format which means it is .zip]
now try rebooting.
