Confused SM-T310? ROMS amd Recovery - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im currently stock and rooted with TWRP 2.6.0.0. I'm wanting to flash CM 4.4.2.
Where I'm lost it seems I need to flash this Blackhawk kernel and this Philz Recovery. Is there something wrong with TWRP? If this is the case what is the simplest way to remove TWRP and replace it with Philz recovery?
Can I flash the kernel and Philz recovery? That doesn't make sense to me to flash a new recovery with a recovery....
Also is the unofficial CM 4.4.2 the most stable and advanced in features supported for the T310? Is it a "daily driver"?

I just flashed the Philz recovery, then CM 11, then GApps. Works great.
Only thing that doesn't work are the cameras, other than that its fantastic.

Hmm...did you flash from TWRP? I'm reading CM requires the Blackhawk NEXT kernel, did you not flash that?

Flashed PhilZ recovery from TWRP.
Rebooted to new recovery, flashed CM zip and GApps zip.
That's what the instructions say.
It says "make sure you're running latest PhilZ Touch from the NEXT kernel thread", not flash the NEXT kernel.
I'm pretty sure the kernel is included in the ROM anyway, since that's what I've got after flashing the ROM.

Just to add my 2 cents...
I love TWRP but have had issues with flashing CM/AOSP with it - it wouldnt flash. But worst that happened is it
failed.
Make sure you make a backup with whatever recovery you are using, prior to flashing. I read the TWRP and Philz
arent compatible and cant restore each others backups.
Grab the stock kernel and blackhawk kernel and put them both on your sdcard. Heck, grab GalaTab kernel too.
That way if you bootloop with one, you can just flash another one until it works.
Hope this might help a little. Good luck.

I've tried installing Philz recovery via TWRP. It keeps saying can't flash, wrong version. Im running a T310 WiFi only version. Im sure I selected the correct version but no go. Ive flashed the NEXT kernel and am running it now with no problems.

Is the zip on the internal or external card? I flashed from the internal card, don't know if it makes a difference or not.

I did flash philz touch on top of TWRP and then flashed CM 11 by kumajaya plus GApps. Replace the stock camera app with the one found at GApps. The only thing that does not work in camera is front camera. Video and back camera are working fine. And in the case of T311, no audio while making/receiving calls.

Hey meta
I had same problem and was using twrp 2.5. Wouldn't flash philz.
I updated to twrp 2.6 that just came out. Reflashed philz and it worked.

The previous recovery port not following device property rule. PhilZ Touch and gr8nole's TWRP port use a "good" CM device tree for 3 different device target.

My solution was to flash via Odin.

I used Flashify to install PhiZ recovery.
And I think you only need NEXT kernel if you're dual-booting.

Try Q&A next time bud...Now that we have that out of the way, just use Odin or Mobile Odin to flash one of the repacked kernels w/CWM. The button combo will then work.

ROM Manager works fine for me, including booting to a CWM recovery that is not the same as the one packed with the kernel.
As for the OP, easiest thing to do to get CWM is to flash a stock kernel that has been repacked with CWM which you will need to do through ODIN.
rom manager works, but not with a stock kernel, must have a kernel with CWM or variant recovery.. and it only fakeflashes not actual flash the recovery..

What is is about the stock recovery that prevents properly booting to the version of CWM installed by ROM Manager? Does it not support the redirection Koush? I know his version actually installs CWM to somewhere besides the kernel partition.

rommanager doesnt install a recovery at all, it fakeflashes recovery, so you have to have a cwm compatible recovery first anyway..

Trying to root Epic 4G Touch with CWM (NO ROGUE)

Hey guys. I have a friend that has an Epic 4G Touch and we're trying to get him set up with this ROM and it says that Rogue Recovery should not be used.
However, I have a few questions. First of all, where can you find a non-Rogue recovery (CWM only) for EL26? I have scoured the internet looking.
Second, what's the difference between CWM Rogue and just plain CWM? Is there one?
If it helps, we have an unrooted E4GT with EL26. (I have a Desire HD so I'm unfamiliar with all this complicated Odin stuff.)
Thanks so much in advance for your help. You guys are awesome!

Umm in that thread you linked to, at the very beginning of the Install Instructions there is a live link to the EL26 with cwm recovery.
Usually these threads include files/links to everything you need but you need to read them thoroughly from top to bottom, read the follow up comments and then re-read the OP before you even dream of installing a custom ROM you are unfamiliar with. Also if you have questions ask them before you flash, not after you've borked your phone. Usually it's best to ask questions about a ROM in the thread for the ROM or look in the general forum to see if there is a discussion thread for it, and there is one for AOKP.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1557109
Good luck and happy flashing!

1. There is none, that was the last official CWM recovery made for this phone
2. Rogue recovery had gingerbread source code so flashing between and GB roms was easy...ICS source code hasn't been released since there isn't an official build yet
If you're going to flash a stock based rom, the recovery doesn't matter as much. However anything AOKP/AOSP should always be done from el26 until TCP releases his source kernel.

Wow...that's embarrassing. I guess I should have taken a closer look.
And I actually can't post on the development threads just yet. That's why I posted here in the Q&A threads.

What if I have EL29? Can I still use the EL26 kernel?
Okay, a bit of an oversight on my part. The phone is completely updated so it has EL 29. Can I still flash the EL26 kernel with CWM without problems? I would assume yes, but I don't want any problems.

As long as you flash the kernel you need for the ROM u want, ur fine. For example, if you are on AOKP there is an fd26 kernel made just for it....after you load the ROM, you clear cache and dalvik then flash the kernel and boot.
If you want to flash any add-ons, you go back to el26 via Odin and flash; just ensure you flash a kernel with the same process as above before reboot (wipe cache/dalvik, kernel, reboot).
Link for AOSP/AOKP kernels is below

@MoHi96...See my last post, same thing really. Kernel el26 should be used to flash, once ready to run your ROM your kernel should be flashed last to support it. GB kernels will not support Android 4.0 and up.

I assume this should all be done in CWM with this order, for example: Flash Milestone 5. Wipe then choose the EL26 kernel and flash?

[HELP] SPH-D710VMUB Stock (Rooted) (FJ12) to Dirty Unicorns 4.2

As the tile says, I need some help, possibly a walkthrough tutorial, on how to get from rooted stock FJ12 to Dirty Unicorns 4.2 ROM on my SPH-D710VMUB (Virgin Mobile). I had it running fine at one point and then things got screwed up after I updated to 4.3 and tried making to modifications to fix some issues I was having, so I had to revert back to rooted stock. And now, for the life of me I cannot remember how I got there. Any new ROM I attempt to install via recovery throws an error (error 7 if I recall correctly) and will not install.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you mean DU 4.3..
Make sure first you're on an ICS modem...if not. Flash it in recovery on the tw ROM you're on now so you can update prl/profile..If you need a cwm recovery for the stock ROM you're on..Look in rwilco12 repo for a custom kernel with cwm for you're build..
This is how I flashed it..
Boot to cwm on current ROM...
Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache and format system
Flash DU 4.3...wait
When it's done...Don't Reboot..Go to advanced and pick reboot recovery
When new recovery comes up....do the wipes again
Now flash DU 4.3 again
Reboot when its done..
Let it settle for a few ...
Boot to cwm
Flash gapps...reboot..
Enjoy...:good:
Thanks. I'll give it a try when I have time in the near future.
The issue that I'm having is that recovery won't flash anything and just gives me an error every time. Is there a way to upgrade the recovery without switching modems?
Mobile Odin, PC Odin... You probably have the stock kernel, which won't flash anything.

Thank you for your help. If I continue to have problems I will continue the conversation later, but for now I'm going to try a touchwiz based ROM since battery life on stock seems so much better.

I don't normally like to post a non fully functional rom, but today I am.
Some of you are curious about KitKat and CM11, so I thought I'd share an early build I put together.
Consider it a preview, since the cell data and calls do not function in this release.
There is nothing left in the rom that will cause any unwanted harm to your device or the radio, so do not be concerned with that.
If you are worried about that or think you might wanna throw darts at me if anything happens to your phone, then don't flash this!

Installing ClockworkMod Touch Recovery:
Download - Clockworkmod Touch
Put your deice into fastboot mode: Power and volume down until the white menu screen appears.
Then select fastboot by pressing the power button.
The image is then easily installed via an unlocked bootloader with the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery imagename.img
For example, recovery named CW_touch_recovery:
fastboot flash recovery CW_touch_recovery.img
The image must be in your fastboot working directory.
If you need more specific help with unlock/recovery flashing you can use this guide.

Yeah thanks, you're right, sorry about that.
I forgot, the new metadata that gets written, needs cwm to be able to read the script properly.
So you will have to use CWM Recovery.

Great work...thank you...Shouldn't it say [ROM][KK4.4] not [ROM][JB4.4]?
Odd, perhaps stupid question, but, would 4.4 gapps work with cm10?
When I install this using CWM recovery, I get the following message: "This package is for \"m7wlv,m7vzw\" devices; this is a m7ul" It then error's out. I've run into issues like this in the past, and I have usually edited the "updater-script" to remove the assert statements at the beginning of the script, which then will allow the ROM to install. But in this case, when I try and update the file inside the download, I get an error and 7zip won't let me update the file
Any ideas?

If you want you can flash the ROM and then from the Mokee Center download the Gapps.
You have to use their gapps because OTA won't work then!

There's a kernel included in the ROM, there's no need to flash a specific kernel.

Yep, there're a lot of languages.
Does this ROM somehow mess up with the partitions of the phone? A Friend of Mine installed it, and He got a boot menu in his phone. The ROM worked fine, but when He tried to revert back to his backed up ROM, the twrp wasn't able to restore his backup. he was not even able to flash another boot.img to go to another recovery via fastboot or flashtool, and the twrp of this ROM is entirely Chinese! He was somehow able to restore to stock. Has anyone faced similar issue? Plus does anyone have any proper link as to the details of this ROM? The original site is in Chinese and even Google translate doesn't work on it properly.

According to my experience of this ROM I got a Boot Manager (take a look at the screenshot). I don't know if that mess up the partition of the phone, I didn't try revert to a back up of a different ROM.
I can tell you that the TWRP is in English.

I've never flashed stable version, I've using nightlies all the time. The last one (20140531) it's pretty stable. I didn't have any random reboots through the day,

The only time I tried to flash that kernel I got a bootloop, but I was not with this ROM. You could try it, but make a back up first.
