This post is a collaboration of different posts related to LG OGP E988 model (basically for asian market).

Well in further i will also try to uplod a video regarding this ALL-IN-ONE performing on my device

1. ROOT
The best method which i found out is by Ballshanglow. Steps are elaborated and easy to follow. Just follow 11 steps
*ROOT* for LG Optimus G Pro E980(AT&T), E988(HK), E989(UK) + CWM + TWRP (*Updated*)
2. LG Security Off
Freegee og pro Soff has done it with precision (by Shelnutt2 ) . Just follow the instruction & you will be off from the most missed step.
Freegee OG Pro Edition
3. Flashing TWRP/CWM
Thanks to hkfriends and his effect combined in post. Follow the step carefully and you should have a little knowledge of adb. Take your time read carefully before performing this procedure. Its Important to lokify your device.
[Recovery][TWRP/CWM][HK (E988), KR (F240L, S, K)] Flashable recovery!
4. ROM flashing + Modem ( Recovery )​
For those who are confused about choose ROM its a just a information that you can flash rom which are for E980 but with caution and by proper modem flashing. Recommended : Read instructions before doing this specially modem flashing
Install instructions:
1. Download rom and gapps.
2. Download additional accessories (IR, disable button lights)
3. Just place/or unrar the file (Follow the instruction given by specific rom)
If using recovery method
4a. Copy to sdcard\clockworkmod\backup (if asked)
4b. Go to restore and select the folder and restore.
4c. reboot enjoy
if using flashing method
4. Full wipe
5. Flash the ROM then Gapps + Modem of E988
if required/or asked by the ROM dev " FLASH LOKIFIED CWM RECOVERY OR FLASH MADMACK'S UPDATED TWRP AT THE SAME TIME AS THIS ROM " Link
6. Reboot enjoy.

if you can't find the flashable .zip of modem please follow the instruction and replace the .zip manually from the 2nd post below
** its just an example. But if you want change baseband and you want to be sure, Do it your own risk. Neither any dev nor I are responsible for it

How to make your own baseband recovery (Extracting Modem.img)
This is the step-by-step process of how to extract your Own modem.img and convert it into baseband.zip for Noobs :good:
Steps (You need to have a Root before starting this process)
1. Connect by adb
2. On the terminal type

su[/B]
Check if confirmation is needed on the phone screen. If needed, accept.
3. On the terminal type:

[B]dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/modem of=/sdcard/modem.img[/B]
4. You will receive the following after some seconds:

[B]131072+0 records in
131072+0 records out
67108864 bytes transferred in 7.583 secs (8849909 bytes/sec)[/B]
5. Type (Optional)
Code:
[B]exit
exit
adb pull /sdcard/modem.img[/B]
6. Now you have your backup.
How make/pack this backup to a Flashable zip
1. Download the file: E98810a-baseband-India.zip, Link 2:mirror
2. Open the zip file using winrar and just drag and drop the existing modem.img with your file
3. Rename the file Whatever you like
Thats it you have your own flashable baseband File

If this is not your work then it should not be posted to the Original Android Development section. This is the precise reason why @NaveenKumarXDA's CM thread was moved to the Android Development Section. Please message a MOD and ask them to move this thread. I'd also request that it be Stickied, as this could be extremely beneficial to the community.

Not able to root Optimus G Pro E988 India.
Getting error 'Protocol Failure'.

No luck :s.

Nothing happens after I put in the code..
PS: Yes I did grant root access on first adb connect

One short Question: A friend of me only wants to root his device,maybe recovery, but no custom rom,so:
is the step "4. ROM flashing ( Recovery ) + Modem " really neccessary? I'm a bit confused about that modem flash, thats new stuff to me.

If your friend only wants root and recovery, just have to use the guide to root then use freegee. BUT, currently a lot of users are facing bootloop issues with freegee, myself included, so if he's not likely to use custom roms for now I'd suggest to avoid it, just until its fixed. Hopefully XD
Also, modem flashing is to flash a working modem for your device in order for network service to work. Some roms built mainly for international or other versions of this device actually work on other versions, just that there's a lack of network service lol. Modem flashing helps in that regard. Correct me if I'm wrong here anyone

Thanks for your reply. If i'm reading correct, freegee is only needed for custom recovery? If so: the recovery was only optional, all we need for sure is root. If we can just stop after that we would be fine.

Yes ..more or less..if all you need is root, stay away from unlocking boot loader for now. By the way, xposed frame work is working fine. I even changed DPI settings using ROM tool box n phone is playing nice.
I have actually started enjoying stock ROM with root n custom dpis.

I flashed 10a baseband(modem.img) but To no effect , can you give me link for 10e Baseband or your own modem.img so that i can replace modem.img in 10a BB nd build my own 10e Baseband?

Can no longer find Canadian Carriers
Hi, I have an unlocked E988 and use to be able to find and connect to Virgin Mobile in Canada, but now it only finds Bell and Rogers which I'm not with.
I inserted my SIM card and flashed both of the baseband modem files you provided in your OP and still can't connect. What else could be the issue?

Sorry to inform you but the baseband you flashed is either of E980 AT&T or E988 india. So please find dev from canada and ask to provide him baseband of you carrier based ROM.

Question about AT&T E988
So I just traded my HTC One for this beautiful Optimus G Pro and I'm loving it so far. Although I do want to get it rooted and load a custom rom and kernel in the near future. Although I am now reading that AT&T released an update(......10p) that breaks the current root method. The best I can figure its the software version they are talking about. My S/W version is E98010p. Can anyone possibly please point me in the right direction to get this thing rooted? Thanks!

Actually i flashed the omni rom for e980 and i have already flashed the correct e988 modem, but my phone still can't search the phone signal until i chose it from the network operator in the setting manually. Every time when i reboot the phone, i have to repeat the above steps in order to grab the signal. How can i solve this problem?

Network not working

ok. im ruined.
i had V3 of G3 Rom for G PRO installed every thing was working perfect.
then i flashed to V4 without flashing V3.2 . in V4 everything was working except i was not getting network to work. i could see the sim contacts as well but when i call or message it says emergency calls only. i selected teh sim network manually as well and it registered also.
then as u said, and as a last resort i did the .tot thing from lg flash tool and went back to the very first android 4.1.2 AT&T stock version just to see if that might work.
now everything is same except the network problem is still there. i can see the network bars but only 2 bars. i have changed 2 sims to check if sims are broken or not. but thats not the issue.
here im posting screen shot of teh network bars but when i call it says emergency calls only.

are you talking about the g3 rom from bounty man? I've flashed both v3 and v4 without any network problem. My best guest would be to wipe everything on the phone including internal memory and flash a New rom. I would suggest the beanstalk rom. Its very stable and feature rich.

it's the same rom. Wipe everything including the internal storage and flash a new rom. It doesn't hurt to try

I'm asking you to flash a New rom because I 've used some roms where I would lose service every now and then. Don't flash any stock jelly bean or kitKat rom. Flash cyanogenmod or beanstalk.

is there a way to remove this message "this device is rooted" as it is very annoying and comes on randomly also can you fix the google now voice detection from any screen as this was a feature that i use a lot. also the guest mode in the first version allowed for a knock code this version only lets you draw a pattern. is there a way to fix these options??? love this rom the best out of everything ive tried thanks for all your hard work it is much appreciated. i almost purchased a g3 but now whats the point.

it wasnt working on full mode using chrome on the phone went home and it worked on the computer???

Yes same for me too and also qmemo doesn't work properly with qbutton, the screen shot taking ability is not there once you use this with qbutton, can you please rectify that, you did repaired the ussd bug in final version of the g3 rom can you please do that again

im currently on your g3 v3.o final rom. i was on stock 4.1 everything was perfect then i updated official 4.4 in that games such as subway surf,temple run etc lags..then i rooted n installed ur g3 rom.awesum rom even in that the game was lagging...i guess 4.4 i not good for my g pro e988...what to do? plz help..i want to go back on stock i have stock kdz but i cant go to dowoad mode..volume key is not working in music player so no luck in download mode..i have read about stock 4.1 flashable zip but its for e980..does. it work on mine e988?...even i want to try this g3 stable rom but im afraid if the problem exist in lagging games...hlp plz. plz

I did it and no problems so far

Factory Data Reset Disapeared After Flashing Rom
I have flashed your Rom on Lg F240k, stock Kitkat v20e.
i have selected all methods one by one after flashing kdz gain and again after each method

but same problem there is faded factory data reset in settings but i am unable to click.

it's still broken.... i copy the libaudcal.so to lib.folder and set permissions.. then reboot. and the audio on video recording is still broken...(

The Androidfilehost link in the original post still functions. It's fast and rather direct. The author also has mirrors listed on their blogspot page, linked under 'SUPPORT SITE' in the original post.

TWRP 2.8.7.0 for the LG Optimus G Pro - E980 & F240

I'm pleased to present you guys with the latest TWRP recovery for the LG Optimus G Pro - E980.
This is an unofficial build since our device is not officially supported by TeamWin.
This is a zip file that is to be flashed in recovery. I had to Lokify the recovery image in order to make it flashable via recovery.
I have also uploaded a .img file for those who want to use Flashify or a similar app.
(The flashable zip is only for the E980 right now. Please use the .img file for the F240.)
This may work on other variants of the LG Optimus G Pro, but I do not own these devices, therefore I cannot test.
If you own another variant, and decide to test this, I am not responsible for anything that happens in the process.
If it works, please let me know, and I will update the thread so other users will know.
All functions are working properly except ADB Sideload, which states it needs a
higher version of ADB installed on the computer, even though the proper version is installed.
I found some workarounds on Google, so if you need to use sideload, research the error.

*If you go into bootloop after flashing recovery, clear cache & dalvik and reboot.
*If you go into bootloop on a restore, do a complete wipe before you restore.

Make sure to read the directions carefully in order to choose your theme.

IMPORTANT!!- I am not liable for anything that happens to anyone's device in the process of flashing.
I have fully tested this version of TWRP on my LG E980, and it is all working properly.
Please know the basic steps for flashing recoveries, and the steps to take in case your phone is softbricked (basically, return to stock).
If something cool happens in the process of flashing, like a meteor falls in your yard, let us know about it!
I will try to answer any questions the best I can, but I hope that some of the XDA users that have
helped so much in my other thread will pitch in and help when needed.

Does this works for E988 soft ware version E98820b

I've updated the recovery(2.6.x.x) of my E980 with flashable .zip (2.8.7.0) and everything went smoothly. After downloading I rebooted in recovery, localized the file and flashed it right away. The process took like 5secs, file is about 11mb..
The new recovery is much more clear, supports 64GB SDs (old couldn't see external sd cards at all). I haven't installed any theme, yet.
One thing still bothers me and I would like to hear your opinion. Precisely after rebooting to recovery, touch is not working for 5-10seconds and my question "Is that related to our device or the twrp ?" kept happening in the (2.6.x.x) I had from Fregee.
I can finally take back ups to SD.

Themes work well but repacking seems to be broken.
I can't change the splash screen from the recovery. I did everything like in theme thread you 've linked.
if
I just let it go from the recovery it gets stuck on lg logo.
if I just create a repack and then flash it via flashify recovery gets stuck on black screen.

i tired the earlier thread (2.8.1.0) to this and it didnt worked
After ding every thing and after it reboots on the top left corner screen this message is shown Secure booting error
Cause:boot certification verify. So does this update (2.8.7.0) will work on E988 ({if it helps i live in Saudi Arabia}software version E98820b)?

Downgradevto 4.4.2 and then flash this recovery.
BTW, I found the way to root stock 5.1 but not sure if it works or not. Some users comfirmed that it works on GK and GX so if you want to try, I will give you the link to it.

So then downgrade to 4.4.2 and flash recovery via flashify
Update: I found the way to flash recovery on Lollipop
- Download this file
- Replace your "aboot.img" and "recovery.img" in folder "temp"
- Run "flashrec.bat"
To get "aboot.img" please use Android terminal and type:
- su
- dd if= /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/aboot of=/sdcard

Is there any way to integrate the play theme and blue-grey splash from this post into a recovery for LG E988 ?

Can this version backup modem? With official 2.8.7.0 i wasn't able to backup modem on my E988. I use modified 2.8.6.0.

Hello everyone.
I wait verry long time, on some deodex rom for Note Pro 12.2 LTE SM-P905....and nothing.
So i made rom, with integrated and working xposed V6 from arter, deodex, rooted, init.d with script to turn off some stuff google play services, for better battery life, tuned audio for loudnes music. Knox is totally removed, rom based on P905XXUABOE1 XEO.
This is my first rom, i dont have pc with linux for make flashable aroma zip. So simply i buckup /system partition with TWRP and with Flashfire for people who no want triped knox.
So. First You must have stock Tw Lollipop on device.
If dont have, download from sammobile P905XXUABOE1 rom, and flash with ODIN. If after that You have lollipop on device, but Your modem is stiil old, then flash device with kitkat, and upgrade to lollipop with OTA.. Some people have problem with flash new modem lollipop, when flash over kitkat modem.
If you have lollipop TW on SM-P905 then download koko115.P905XXUABOE1.Stock.Root.Deodex.Xsposed.initd.boost-TWRP.zip file unzip and unpacked folder copy to /TWRP/BACKUPS/*.*/koko115.P905XXUABOE........
Go to recovery, restory my firmware, then do wipe data. Restart and smile My rom dont have any moded kernel, and bootloader. This is only one system partition. So after restore, wipe data is recomended.
For who dont want tripped knox i make buckup /system partition with FlashFire.
So if you have knox 0x0 and you have TW Lollipop with FlashFire on device.. so simple make wipe data, and restore my rom. Restart device, and smile with no tripped knox, and worked xposed....
File for FlashFire named koko115.P905XXUABOE1.Stock.Root.Deodex.Xsposed.initd.boost_FLASHFIRE.zip so when you download unzip and copy to FlashFire folder, then restore with wipe data.
FOR ALL. IS VERRY IMPORTAND.
MY ROM IS BUCKUP SYSTEM PARTITION SPECIALY MODED FOR DEODEX, AND XPOSED. SO IF YOU WANT RESTORE THIS PARTITION YOU MUST HAVE ON DEVICE LOLLIPOP TW.
IF YOU STILL HAVE KITKAT, GO TO SAMMOBILE AND FLASH WITH ODIN LOLLIPOP FIRMWARE, AFTER THIS RESTORE MY ROM LIKE NORMALY BUCKUP IN FLASHFIRE, OR TWRP AS YOU WISH.

Exactly. If You want save knox 0x0 first install rooted lollipop like in @najoor guide. Then restore my rom in FlashFire with wipe data. My rom dont have any moded kernel, or recovery. So dont trip Your knox ?

I look today for mwcommander.

I have problems to restore this ROM by using TWRP.
I unpacked everything, but TWRP does not see all the files.
I have following path:
/TWRP/BACKUPS/553946a2/rom/
with these folders inside:
- meta-inf
- system
How should I properly restore it? So far this backup is not visible (or getting an error: no partitions selected for restore.)

Maybe do this. First do buckup system, then delate all files in last folder, and paste all files from latest folder my rom. And try restore.

Btw checked knox and it wasn't triggered that flashfire tool is really good
Also guys it may take up to 10-15 minutes at Samsung logo don't worry about it just leave it be!
BTW @koko115 could you please check app called "button savior" it gives you the ability to use on screen virtual keys for easy access to back/recent/home buttons for some reason it didn't work after restoring your backup but it was working with 5.0.2!!
I really thought I won't see xposed and therefore never use lollipop on this amazing tab!

Hi Koko,
Unfortunately it doesn't work. I was wishing something in your ROM could be different from the stock, as I have already tested with the P905 stock without success, the modem seems to be different. The P905M is a version for the Latin America and the frequencies here seem to be different. I have already tried to flash the modem from the KK ROM but it doesn't work either.

Buck to kitkat flashed in odin from sammobile. After this in ota actualize to lollipop. After this flash with my rom. If no work, flash all firmware from sammobile, and wait on somethink do rom for Your device.

There is no Lollipop for the P905M yet, unfortunately... I was hoping that the P905 firmware could fit well on the P905M, but this didn't happen.
For some reason Samsung didn't update this specific model. Have no idea why.
