I'm facing some weird effect on my Arc S if playing music for a longer time.
The effect:
- music is playing (mostly in background) with any kind of player app (I used CMs Apollo most of the time, but also tried Sonys Music Player and Google Music)
- the CM DSP service is running with my settings (but it doens't matter what settings are used)
- after a random interval the loudness drops and somehow treble and bass seem to be lost (sounds like low-fi radio then)
- The DSP serive isn't restarted in between (none of the processes/services seem to be restarting)
- If now a new track is started (sometimes after fifth try) volume/treble/bass are back to the expected level
- buildin volume control, etc. isn't changing (visually)
- From what i saw the audio format doens't matter (I tried mp3, mp4, ogg, wmv)
- There are no other "audio-enhancers" or what ever installed
This is sometimes really annoying when listening to audio books or mixtapes, which mostly are single longer tracks.
Behavoir was recognized on following builds:
- FreeXperia CM10 build 231, 241 and version "24-12-13" (I suspect this to be the project christmas gift)
Running Kernel 2.6.32.9
- I tried some other JellyBean ROMs but didn't kept the name
The things didn't appeared on 4.0.4 stock rom, so I suspect drivers whatever to be the root of it.
Does anyone have similar problems on their Arc S with FXP or some other JB-build??
The rest of the ROM is just fitting perfect my needs, so I would grateful so some advice how to get rid of this behaviour.
Sounds as if the DSP Manager service is being killed in order to free up RAM... You have to lock it in the memory with the help of 3rd-party stuff, for example V6 Supercharger's bulletproofing apps service.

RAM (>100MB most of the time) is good and I tried "freezing" DSP service without any luck - But this was also the first thing I had in mind as the behavior first appeared...
Edit: I tried the latest SuperCharger-Script on DSP-service without any luck (problems is still there).

Hi,
I recently finally took the rooting plunge and installed Leedroid 2.3d, mostly for A2SD and DSPManager.
I cannot get DSPManger to work with my Motorola S305 A2DP headphones - turning effects on makes no difference at all. I have tried rebooting, restarting the HeadsetManager service and force stopping and restarting DSPManager.
I checked logcat while connecting the headset and the line "Bluetooth plugged: " + bluetoothAudio as specified in the DSPManager source in cyanogenmod is not there. At the begginning of the log I see a bunch of unhandled exceptions to do with DSPManager 'leaking' IntentReceivers, which could be related as it is supposed to be listening for BluetoothDevice.ACTION_ACL_CONNECTED, especially since it seems to create a bunch of BroadcastReceivers at start.
Will anything break if I try to compile the latest version from cyanogenmod github directly?
Ok, after some experimenting trying to get the cleanest logcat I could I've managed to make it work .
It seems it doesn't work until the service is restarted after an effect is enabled. It also doesn't work when all effects are disabled and then one is enabled until the service is restarted. It must be a bug of some kind with the bluetooth system as this doesn't happen with wired headphones.
DSPManager is awesome, especially the Virtual Room! It even works for Dolby Surround/Pro Logic encoded movies (only really noticeable for Room/Large Room/Stage)! . I always thought that was what Dolby Mobile did for the Desire but never could get it to work. I think the effect is at least as good as DTS SurroundSensation UltraPC Headphone (who came up with that name?), and certainly better than the Headphone Virtualization built in to Windows.
sometimes my Note2 shows some problems with playing any kind of sounds.
- Ring for incoming phone calls does not play
- SMS alert sound does not play
- music play are not able to play any music anymore (can't even display the sound files)
- apps to play sounds are stop working
Sometimes I kill all the running apps and also clear all cache files it will work again.
But most of the time i had to restart the whole phone.
I tried different microsdcard's, kernels and roms.
ATM I am on redpill 1.01 Omega 9.1 XXDLL4
How could I analyse the error? Are there any logs i could check?
Sometime I think, it came by playing Great Big War Game...
But it is not everytime after I play...
Any help would be nice, thank you.
POWERAMP MUSIC PLAYER
Please forgive me for starting a completely new thread on an issue (Bug) that may or may have not already been fixed. I've searched all of XDA and Poweramp forums for solutions but have not found any. Hopefully this is not just my phone suffering from hardware failure and simply just a Poweramp glitch or bug that seems to effect the galaxy nexus. If it is just my phone, well I will ask the moderators to just delete this thread and my apologies. I will just throw my Gnex in the garbage and use my old Samsung Vibrant.
Now with that being said, is there anyone who is currently using Poweramp as their primary music player on their GNEX running 4.4 or any version of android for that matter? If so would you mind sharing what your Poweramp experience is like. In other words is their any BUZZING or SKIPPING that occurs when you are performing common tasks such as browsing the web or checking email or whatever the case may be. When I say BUZZING I really mean BUZZING, like someone being buzzed in to enter a door or like a buzzing bee except much louder to the point where it may cause some serious hearing problems. I don't mind the audio skipping or popping it is just that damn buzzing that is literally giving me a headache. Now you may say...well why don't you just try another music player? Well I have tried just about every single music player available on google play and none of them, I repeat NONE OF THEM come close to the audio quality of Poweramp (take it from me I am an audiophile). I have contacted the poweramp support team and they told me basically to F-OFF because they don't support custom roms other than Cyanogenmod. Well I tried CM11 with stock kernel and the problem still persist so no luck there.
Device Info:
Samsung Galaxy Nexus i9250 GSM
Currently running the latest build of Vanir with latest SmittyV kernel (Stock or custom kernel doesn't seem to make a difference)
Default kernel settings
Default Poweramp settings not using Direct Volume Control or an external DSP (Audio Buffer Size or Audio Thread Priority settings don't seem to help either)
Buzzing only seems to occur when using headphones, it doesn't buzz when connected via bluetooth speakers but skips (really don't mind).
Again this buzzing ONLY happens when "Multitasking". Listening to music and browsing the web seems to happen almost instantly. When the phone is in standby with music playing...no problems at all. No buzzing, skipping or popping noises.
I've tried just about every rom and kernel combination that is currently in development to try and solve this issue but have had no luck whatsoever. Other music players mainly Player Pro with the dsp pack seem to have this exact same issue. Player Pro without the DSP pack works perfectly fine but there is no gapless playback support so that's not an option. I am on the verge of just giving up all together and using my Vibrant as my "daily driver" while I save to buy a N5 someday. But I am not quite ready to call it quits that's why I ask my fellow XDA users who are currently using Poweramp Music Player for their help.
What ROM and KERNEL are you using?
Kernel settings? Default or custom Settings?
Poweramp settings?
Please help.
Anyone having any problems running aftermarket roms? I'm on Liquidsmooth and I am extremely dissapointed in the bluetooth quality. About to go back to stock or get rid of the tablet to just use my tab pro instead. IT doesn't skip or pause but it like, mutes for a second every 5 or so seconds. Its not consistent. But it happens soo much it gets me really angry. I'm on a fresh copy of LiquidSmooth. Haven't really done anything and nothing is running in the background that could be taking up all the system resources. I've even tried multiple music players even tho they all are horrible except PowerAmp which still doesn't have a tablet mode years after said feature was in the works.
You know of any fixes?
Googled Android Bluetooth Skip and seems its a very common problem among a few devices including the Note 4.... I don't have any issues with my Tab Pro, Just Tab S... This is bugging me because its main function is to play Music Via Bluetooth. Would prefer it through RCA/3.5mm but I don't have one
Had the same problem with my phone, solved it by adding the bluetooth device as a trusted device, so that when connected to bluetooth speaker the phone doesnt lock its self, done the same on my tab s and no problems streaming music using google music, as far as i can figure out its related to the kernel lowering the cpu speed when the screen locks, so you may be able to solve the prob using a kernel manager and increasing the idle speed, but personally i like the phone not locking when listening to music as i can access the player without unlocking, making it easier to put on a different album or song, hope this helps
Sent from my LG-D855
Use to have similar issues with the stock player on another device.
Solved it with Playerpro.
Install from play then in the app open settings then go to Audio.
Select to install the dsp pack then make sure it's active.
You will see a new option 'Audio buffer' change this to large. See how you go.
Seems to me also like an audio buffering issue (I think PowerAmp has a larger one by default). You could try raising the minimum CPU frequency since this us often the cause for problems kind this.
On that note, don't forget that none TW based ROMs don't have support for the APT-X codec that provides vastly better audio quality over Bluetooth as long as your audio adapter/headphones/car audio supports it as well. Nothing to do with the issue at hand though.
Its not a buffering issue. Its an audio pause issue. Its extremely common with Note 4 and some others. I solved it by going to a TouchWiz OEM style rom. The AOSP roms seem to all do it. Adjusting buffering settings changes nothing. Its as if the bluetooth drivers aren't capable of handling the "power" of whats going on. The Music still plays during the pause.
So far TW Roms seem to be the best for Bluetooth Audio. I use it daily since the Tablet is the main front end to my car, with a Sony 610BT AppRemote Deck.
Ever since I started using android, my choice for a DSP unit was Noozxoide EIZO-rewire™ PRO. Apparently, since the last update, the software is no longer usable. Lowering the volume only inserts a crappy stuttering sound. Since that app is old (but gold) and not updated, It seems it's finally time to move on. So, what are your takes on DSPs on Android Pie?
I need a module that does not require root or other methods of tampering with the system.
I need a module with profiles for each and every sound output (internal, jack and wireless).
I need it to auto-start on boot and work in the background without needing to set it up, or start it every time I want to use the music player or other media software.
The app mentioned above did everything I needed.
Thank you!
I'm afraid, there are no other rootless solutions for Android 8+. At least I don't know of any working one.

I tried the basic debugging solution... Idk what happened during the update but here goes my log:
>test game - volume slider working
>test youtube - volume slider working
>test sony music - volume slider creates audio glitching
>test google music - volume slider creates audio glitching
>force stop audio engine
>test sony music - volume slider creates audio glitching
>test google music - volume slider working
>force stop sony music
>test sony music - volume slider working
>reboot
>volume slider working globally
So that old but gold engine is still up for the task... Problem fixed,
UPDATE 2: problem occurring after system-wide back-up using the google back-up option. It seems it tampers with the normal operation of the integrated audio API. So, after a full back-up, a reboot and/or force restart of the DSP engine is needed. Also, sometimes after a reboot, the system is not operational again, then, the only fix is force stopping and restarting the process for the audio processor.
Will still keep an eye on the thread, maybe there are rootless solutions that could still work...
UPDATE 3. The problems persisted so I tried to access the Noozxoide EIZO-rewire™ PRO control panel from the music app (Sony Music Port - lastest version) and surprise, there was a new basic equalizer there that I never installed. It seems that Xiaomi pushed a new equalizer system to our phones that was interfering with my processor. I checked the system apps and found a new MusicFX app there. I disabled it and it seems everything is now working as intended.
The point is that for the past few days I tried to find an app that could replace EIZO, and no luck. There is no rootless system audio processor available, except those crappy riced apps from the store. So, if you want to get the most out of your audio, the solution was now found. This rootless mod almost gives you the sound quality you'll get from an iPhone 6s (mono speaker) and great sound from headphones/wireless devices.
