[Q] odin ,rom and recovery of device - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi i'm helping a friend upgrade his telstra galaxy note lte to 4.3
how do i use odin is there like a how to thread ?
what rom should i use to get a full generic experience and is safe to flash on this version of the galaxy note 2 ?
in the likely event of the device not flashing properly or getting bricked /soft bricked how do i recover the device ,(any how to thread ?)?
i'm new with samsung devices so i am sorry if my questions sound dumb
thanks

The easiest and safest route to root, get recovery and rom is to use a toolkit(search on xda mskip made a good one) or you can follow one of Dr. Ketans very easy and helpful guides.

not after root or custom roms , i am trying to manually upgrade the phone via odin as the update is not available on telstra version of the phone .... the reason i have asked is because i have read things dont update properly etc

If you just want to update go to sammobile and download the appropriate firmware for your model/area and flash as pda with odin. I think you have to install the drivers first so either install kies or you can use the toolkit all ready mentioned. If you need any guides then Dr ketan is the person so search for. He has written a guide on everything note 2

Get CWM for Galaxy w

i have just rooted the galaxy w for my bro-in-law and one of the reasons i suggested to him was better recovery such as full backups.
when i go into rom manager there isnt an option to install cwm for the 'W'.
i know there is suggested methods for using odin etc but i didnt want to risk bricking someone elses phone and doing it through rom manager is extremely easy.
is this possible to do through rom manager any way?
thanks guys
Use ODIN.....There is a guideline in Dev section by our Master Developer arco68 titled Clockworkmod Recovery.....

Easier to Brick with RM, which doesn't support SGW.....
Use ODIN as per guide, or adb.
ODIN is a Samsung tool, so it is designed to flash fw, etc.

Yeah.in rom manager.extremely easy....to hard-brick ur phone rather than using odin.

UnRoot Note 2?

Can someone please direct me to the forum so I can download the factory firmware for my AT&T Galaxy Note 2. I currently have it rooted and I want to go back to factory firmware and I am having trouble finding it on the XDA forums. I am running the firmware 4.1.2 with the latest OTA update/patch that I received from AT&T. When I go to Kies it says that my firmware is not supported by Kies.

Odin can't complete flash!

Hi everyone. I have a GT-I9300 Int'l version. The phone had worked previously with a custom rom, however' the previous owner tried to update through kies and now the phone is showing an error and asking to recover with kies. I tried that, and it fails. Also, i downloaded the stock rom for it from sammobile and the flash fails after about 2/3 of the way through.
How do i fix this?
I appreciate any and all help !
Do give you a heads up you are in the non international version of the sgs 3 forum. You need to go the international forum for the s3 for help. Using our methods can damage your phone.

[Q] Rogers note 2

I just got a Rogers note 2. I'm a little lost on how to install a custom rom/recovery on this device. I only have experience with the nexus 4 and htc one x,s and evo 3D. So i know the basic adb commands and such and have fastboot set up. Basically as an end result I want a custom rom, kernel and a working recovery. I was also wondering if a custom rom such as cm10 supports the s-pen? and can I flash a at&t rom on my Canadian phone?

S Pen: you can get some spen feature with AOSP roms but most of em will not be like a touchwiz rom.
Yes you can use att rom on your note but you might need to manually input your APN. This is no big deal.

You can do it both way. If you have a costum recovery installed you can flash the zip file provided in the thread. If not you can flash it with Odin.
It all in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159652

You first need to root, I think there are two ways of doing it, I usually do it with odin and cf-autoroot. I'm not familiar with other ways.
Then you can install recovery trough odin OR using goo manager from playstore and press menu, install open recovey script
Once you have done all this, you will be ready to install a new rom.
Take a look at the cf-autoroot thread and the twrp thread in the development section.
Read a lot before attempting stuff, you need to prepare yourself and understabd how it works or your risk ending up with an expensive paperweight.

OK sounds good. I just thought some firmware you couldn't root. Am I good to install kernels like that too? Most phones I have owned need an unlocked boot loader to flash kernels. Are Samsung phone pre unlocked.

Help/Basics for unrooting and rooting

Gentleman I need some guidance. I used a custom rom and want to return my note 4 back to stock so I can update it to Marshmallow. The problem I'm having is that I cant' find lollipop stock for my phone, and when I do, I can't seem to flash it even using odin. Would you gentleman be kind to help me with this situation .. Thank you in advance
What's your device?
Sprint galaxy note 4?
If it's just download the firmware from general section or from sammobile then flash it using odin.
You have to install the drivers of the phone.
Or you can use flashfire app if you have root.
