I was looking for information on the steps (if possible) for porting ROM's from other threads such as the galaxy S2. As I understand it the E4GT is just a variant of the S2. I have been able to do this in the past with my old Captivate porting from the i9000 threads. All that was required was to remove the Assert and then flash a compatible Captivate Kernel to then have a new working rom. I'm not sure of the exact differences in the specifications of the devices and any input would be appreciated.
Thank you

It's not that simple. I successfully ported a GSAM rom here and just posted an update:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2418482
No 4G or MMS. MMS was not possible due to Sprint's enterprise security permissions. 4G was not possible because the ported phone does not have 4G.
I mainly used this thread but there are many:

Is there any preferably easy way to make a gsm rom work on the sprint variant of the nexus. Im assuming its just a couple different files no? If someone could help me i would greatly appreciate it.
They're pretty fundamentally different. Some devs have released dual-compatible ROMs, e.g. on Modaco where the ROMs have a "compatibility layer" to make one work on the other.
The Verizon GNex has a pretty big dev community. I would assume it's easier to adapt a Verizon GNex ROM to work on your device than a GSM ROM.

You can ask the ROM dev to make a CDMA version. You (probably) won't be doing it yourself. If you do, you'd have to build it again from source as a CDMA ROM.
thanks for the responses hmm i might just try to learn to dev or more of port actually, i wish someone could post a guide on here. Or make some sort of tool that would make a rom compatible in some way.
Based on my reading and testing it seems the GSM LTE variant Note 2 ROMs are cross-compatible with the exception of the radio. That is, flashing of SGH-T889, SGH-I317 and GT-N7105 ROMs among one another works perfectly as long as you have the proper radio flashed as well.
I propose that the SGH-I317 and SGH-T889 Development forums cross-link to the GT-N7105 development forum, much as the Accessories forums of all Note 2 variants link to the N7100/N7105 Accessories forum.
In order to avoid potential confusion, developers could tag their threads as [N7105], [I317], and [T889] to designate the device the build was developed for and tested on. Users would then also know whether or not they would have to flash their respective radios after installation.
This will foster greatly expanded and accelerated development for the GSM LTE Note 2 variants. Developers will benefit from the inherent similarities of these devices (as they are more similar than different) and users would have greater variety.

So you are saying you can run a custom rom from a t889 on a i317 and just flash the modem with whatever flavor you are using...So I can use a i317 with a t889 rom and flash a t889 modem on it and put my tmobile sim in the thing and all will be good right?
Looking for more feedback and confirmation on this as well!
Update, I flashed the i317 pacman rom on my t889v wind mobile and its working great
In most situations, the ROM's zip file won't even contain a modem file in the first place, so you don't need to flash any radio afterwards. Maybe RIL files or carrier-specific CSC settings on TW ROMs, but that's another matter altogether, and not something that would typically preclude your phone from working if you skipped it.
In the T889V's specific case: do not flash any modems in any circumstances unless you are ready to deal with the consequences. My thinking is that there's a bug somewhere that leads to NV item corruption instead of just plain bootloops like on other variants.

Thanks for the response. By modem I assume you mean modems other than ones designed for my variant? I flashed the latest Wind Mobile modem from 2013 as I had the one prior to that.
Everything seems to be working fine, so I am happy. I was just apprehensive about flashing a rom designed for another phone as I do not fully understand what each contains, and if it would conflict with my phone.

Yes. Although in some cases, even reflashing the original T889VVLALJ4 over itself lead to problems, but that's a moot point since you're running T889VVLBMA3 already.
As for as the zip's contents, you can see for yourself by checking the files themselves and the updater-script file. And of course by checking out a given ROM's thread.
Back to the original topic, I'd be okay with the proposed merger.
Is this still up for consideration? Ever since getting the T889, it has only been hinted that there may be some compatibility. Merging the forums where proper would make it clear what will work and what won't.
I have a big question
Hello everybody, can I use the ROM of a GT-N7105 in the SGH-T889?
I need a stable rom for my Note 2 SGH T-889 form T-mobile

Is it possible? Sure... Should you? Not unless you want a brick for a phone
Agreed ....+100
DO NOT FLASH INTERNATIONAL ROMS TO THIS DEVICE ....g
Thanks for the tip.
You mean like this International based rom?

Fair enough...but perhaps I should clarify my response a bit more...
Scott's roms are ports to our devices. .....and he has pulled the bases to create a compatible build from international source.
Making these ported roms "Safe" to use...but in raw form...they are flash bricks for us...
The OP got the generalized answer of "NO" because of the risk in flashing the unchanged international variant builds...which mean an instant brick on the I317/I317M....
Since we don't know to what extent the OP interprets the meaning "international" He/She could take a yes answer and flash a brick by using an untouched build from anywhere on the internet....
It happens all the time, and is the reason for my Caps locked NO.....It then falls to the user to read and understand the meanings, and the differences between international, and international ported rom.......g

Hi guys i need some help from you guys and developers . As we have 4.3 roms ported to our device by very great developers but we all are facing data loss on these roms. when device screen goes off for few minutes and while making screen on i see no data connection on my device . Problem i came to understand that its a modem issue because 4.2.2 modems are not compatible with 4.3 software . my question is that can we safely flash modems from AT&T SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 OR I9505 devices . All roms and kernels of AT&Tand i9505 devices are compatible with our device. In past on my galaxy s2 T-mobile device i flashed modems from AT&T variant and they were working fine. may be this can resolve our data loss issue
Thanks for your help and advice ....
I believe that this time around the modems can't be flashed from different carriers correct me if I'm wrong

Not without breaking the phone, you are correct.
In past on my galaxy s2 T-mobile device i flashed modems from AT&T and verizon variant and they were working fine. It was the same issue when we upgraded . This was the solution to resolve data connectivity issue . And some developers also modified the modems to resolve the issues on Galaxy s2 to make them compatible .That's why i tried to share my past experience . But now we can not go ahead with this problem until we do not resolve this issue . we do not expect any update from T-mobile for our device in near future . only developers can help us to resolve hardware and software complexities .

Here is the deal, NONE of the custom zip file roms found here in XDA which we flash contain "MODEMS/RADIOS".
There is a good reason behind why they don't have modems. (brick at worst and soft brick at best if we flash modems)
The only firmwares/roms which contain MODEMS are those which we flash using ODIN, like stock roms which
are specifically designed for our M919 Tmobile Galaxy S4 phones and no other models.
These zipfile cwm/twrp flashable tmobile/at&t/i9505 roms for the most part can be interchangeable especially
if we flash a proper kernel for our specific phones but if you flash MODEMS you are just asking for a lot grief.
Good luck! (you just might need it)
I was just asking because it was possible . i was using galaxy note radio on galaxy s2 t-mobile SCH -T989
In this thread you can see galaxy note T879 radio for galaxy s2 and telus radio which was canadian variant and blaze 4g radio for galaxy s2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400
I used galaxy note radio on galaxy s2 . i do not claim its my idea but i give credit to those developers who made it possible on galaxy s2 when it was upgraded from gingerbread to ics. i am not like others who steal others roms and claim their own .
I was seeking help from our developers to look into and tell us the possibilities.
T-Mobile devices support different LTE bands than other carriers and the i9505, which means our hardware is different, specifically the modem. Pretty much everything else is the same, which is why we can run other carrier roms. Radio comms are another beast though...not saying it couldn't work, but its much lower level than the OS/ROM is.
I have a pristine looking insurance replaced Note II that I'd like to Root and Rom with a stable Rom that retains T-Mobil's WiFi Calling feature.
Also, I'm getting the unlock code for the device sent to me by T-Mobile; which I'd like to do as well. I do have a T-Mobile SIM for it and can get at an AT&T SIM to unlock it if necessary.
As far as Root/Rom goes; I'm fairly certain this limits me to Android 4.3 and below; since T-Mo hung Note II users out to dry for a factory 4.4.x update; and I need the WiFi calling feature to work properly.
This specific device showed up with the following on it and is currently locked.
Firmware: 4.1.2
Baseband: T889UVBMD1
Kernel 3.0.31-935627
Build No: JZ05K.T889UVBMD1 (probably redundant info)
I have 2 Questions to start:
1. Should I unlock this before or after flashing root/ROM?
2. What Root/Rom(s) is (are) stable and let's the T-Mobile WiFi calling feature working properly. (I've seen Info on Jedi Rom, not sure which of them would be best or if there are others that keep WiFi Calling)
Some advice on this would be sincerely appreciated; since I have no experience with unlocking and/or root/ROMs; though I've been reading and really can't find info on my first question.
TIA to anyone that can point me in the right direction.
cef1000
1) If you are getting the unlock code from T-mobile then it does not matter if you unlock before or after you root your phone.
2) I would advise to read through the forums in dev section and decide for yourself which ROM better suits your needs. Only Stock based TW ROMS retain/support WiFi calling and those are the ones to look out for. A quick glance for feature list under OP should let you know if WiFi calling is supported.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
Thank you very much ciphercodes.
Yeah its a tmo unlock code, so one less thing my noobishness to worry about..
I have been reading through the dev section trying to figure that out and it looks like the Jedi roms retain wifi calling, and to keep it we can't go past tmos 4.3 stock ROM rev.
Not sure what TW and OP means. I can see why it would have to be based on tmo stock ROM though.
I'll dig more in the dev section.
Thanks again

Sorry, I should have been clear, TW - Touchwiz this is Samsung propriety front-end interface and Wifi calling is only supported in Touchwiz ROMS.
OP - I mean Original Post or the first post where all information about ROM is listed. OP also stands for Original Poster.
