[Q] what to do after HTC ONE V s-off - HTC One V

Hello:
I saw some posts here were discussing s-off HTC one V.
After s-off, what to do with the HTC ONE V.
current my device is running rooted virgin mobile stock rom, is there any Sprint stock rom compatible with HTC ONE V? Does anyone know how to install a sprint stock rom on it?
thanks

Now you don't need to flash kernel separately using fastboot.
And if the kernel's boot.img is not present in the ROM's zip, just replace the zip's boot.img with the appropriate one.

You can also change you CID number to the super CID, and change the original HTC boot screen form the crap one with red writing to anything you please. I am still looking for EngHboot options we could use, but its a steep and long learning curve for me.

Is the RUU necessary when just flashing custom ROMs?

Hi there,
I completely understand how flashing custom ROMs works and the like, however I'm not too familiar with HTC devices so I'm not entirely sure how important RUUs are.
My girlfriend owns an unlocked One X (CID: HTC_102, 1.29.401.11 (WWE)). If I were to flash Android Revolution HD 8.1, it would technically be following the X.XX.401.XX update tree, right? If we were to keep her One X updated along with ARHD, would we need to worry about flashing RUUs? I think most people use the RUUs to update things like their baseband version, kernel and boot image - but if the custom ROM is taking care of things like the kernel and boot image, couldn't I just flash the updated basebands? I've been trying to Google my answers, but I'm really coming up with nothing.
It's always best to have a ruu handy incase you need to go back to near stock, or something messes up and a ruus the only way of sorting it

So basically the RUU is a way of restoring to stock if you, for some reason, do not have a Nandroid backup?
Yes. If you can't get one then proceed at your own risk
For the most part you will never need an ruu.
It returns the device completely to stock.
It differs from custom ROMs because it also flashes the protected partitions like Hboot
It is also the only way to get your phone to load after relocking your boot loader (for warranty purposes)
Better chance of been fixed if you send it back as stock as possible

Ah, so if I keep the RUU for the current stock ROM I have now on hand (I believe I've found it in the Endeavor Shipped ROM Collection thread) for a 'just in case' situation, I should be all good? Sure is handy that the CID matches the WWE RUUs, they're easy to find.
Thanks for your help, guys.

Q about boot img

Hi was wondering if somebody can help me. I am new to htc devices and am learning loads about how a phone operates ect due to no s off but was wondering.
if I was on htc custom jb rom ie insercoin but wanted to flash another stock based rom ie miui australia or any other stock based do I have to flash the boot image as I assume there using the same kernel. Is this correct and can it be done. Im probaly miles off. Also can a boot image be flashed through terminal emulator on phone
Im prepared to read but couldn't find a explanation so a link would also be appreciated

You always have to flash the boot.img from the rom you are about to flash ! Even if its the same, just to avoid any problems !
You can't flash a boot.img inside a running OS. This has to be done with the phone in fastboot usb mode and fastboot commands from pc (cmd prompt)
Hope this helps a bit
Edit : this has some info about flashing ....

The boot.img contains both kernel and ramdisk
The kernel might not change that much between releases but the ramdisk certainly does
You would likely find that if you don't flash the boot.img then you will just get boot loops
And to your second point. Due to the security on newer HTC phones. You cannot flash a boot.img anyway other than in fastboot.
With s-off you could but as of this moment there is no way of achieving s-off
With s-off the boot.img would automatically be flashed when you install the rom in recovery

Thanks. So when you repack a boot image are you using kernel and rom specific ramdisk
sent from my highgrade HTC one x
Yes.
Repacking is merging a new kernel with the ROMs ramdisk

Thanks all. Im getting this now and your help was appreciated.
Bloody auto correct

First off unless youve bricked your phone i dont see a reason why you would want to return to stock ROm. I myself though have followed this tutorial and can confirm that it does work, since ive bricked my phone 2 times <.< .... but anyway heres the tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1706070 hope it helps
Be sure to download the correct RUU found under HTC One V CMDA Development.

Remove HK mod

Hi,
i was trying to do the HTC ONE M8 OTA but it failed due to the HK mode being installed. At first i though that just restoring the stock recovery would be enough but then found out that the HK mod also made the update impossible. How do i completely uninstall/remove the mod so i can proceed with the update? I would like not to have to flash the stock rom as i don't want to lose my data. I know i can do a backup with the HTC tool but that won't save the sms conversations, whats app conversations etc.
I have a Rogers HTC ONE M8 GSM.
thanks!

Just dirty flash the stock ROM again. i.e. Flash it over your current ROM.

Unless you had other mods installed, it should not remove anything. Just don't wipe your device and flash it.
I just got a Rogers HTC One M8 -- I was looking into installing the HTC mod but I don't know what S-Off is, and why that term is exclusive to HTC devices.
On another note, is the HK mod worth it? And what are the most popular reasons for rooting the M8?

first app i install after rooting/formatting my phone is the titanium backup
Also the H/K mod is subjective but i find myself going back to BoomSound.
S-Off is security off where you won't be able to have full access of your phone like flashing AOSP ROMs etc. but however, you are still able to flash the HTC One based firmware. install custom recovery and do nand backup etc

Maximus HD ROM hang on boot (HTC Logo)...

Ok so I wanted an RUU ROM unbranded and stock for my Mrs HTC One X (Which is T-Mobile locked), but due to CID, S-ON etc I could not flash it... The I was told that T-Mobile nt bothered to make a JB 4.2.2 S5 OTA ROM Updated, and was told to use the Maximus HD custom ROM, I went ahead and downloaded the ROM, the Kernel, flash the Kernel and installed the ROM via custom recovery, but the phone now hangs on the HTC logo at boot... probably because the phone nt S-OFF, which ,according to the developer, is needed to install the ROM, so why was I advised to install this ROM as I mentioned that I can't seem to be able to S-OFF the phone?? and why was I told that the HTC One X can't be S-OFF, yet the developer of the Maximus HD seems to state that this ROM is good for the HTC One X, but the phone needs to be S-OFF? so can this phone be S-OFF?? and is this the reason why the ROM hangs at boot (HTC logo)??
I WAS TOLD NOT TO BE CONFUSED, BUT I AM !!! AND I AM AN IT ENGINEER !!! LOL!!
