i am looking for best video player for my xperia s.i am using mxplayer right now.its a good player with sub support.but when playing videos on my built in xperia movie app i feel true surround sound after turning on surround sound mode on and dynamic normaliser on.then i played the same video on mxplayer i feel shame. mxplayer is nowhere near sony movie app.sound and video great on sony's movie app.is there any app can give great surround sound on my xperia s while watching videos.i tried h/w and s/w settings on mxplayer but both are not comparable with sony's surround sound mode.only disadvantage is sony's movie app is not support subtitle.so i am still using mxplayer for watching movies.is sony will add subtitle support?,i m sure my xperia s doesn't get any updates.anyway waiting for reply from experts........suggest me application with sub support and surround sound.

There is subtitle support in the Sony Movies app, at least in version 5.3.A.0.18. I don't know what kind of subtitles though, not .srt files. But I only tried the app on my Nexus 7 (it wouldn't be very different on my Xperia S since that's running CM11). It might refer to movies you rent from the Video Unlimited service. Anyway you can also just use MX Player and some kind of audio enhancer like V4A to change the sound. Just be aware that that "surround" effect you want is actually fake. Stereo is designed in such a way that when you're using headphones and watching a properly recorded video, your brain will process the sounds and and it will sound like surround. No need for software tricks.

how to install v4a. can you give me the link.is there any problem using it?mine xperia s firmware 6.2.b.1.96 and rooted.and also installed cwm.is this v4a enhancer work with mxplayer?

I don't know, I never use audio enhancers and I also don't use stock ROMs anymore. Anyway audio enhancers should work for all your apps, so also MX Player. Look up Viper4Android Xperia S. There should be a thread in the Themes&Apps section.
I thought that in stock your equaliser audio settings work for all apps, the Walkman settings I mean. Can't you edit them from Settings/Sound or something.

As Redstarr1 has said, it's effects will be observable on all apps including MxPlayer, YouTube etc. I use Viper and I can confirm that it works with Mx
In fact Viper even works on kitkat. I'm using Walkman+Mx+Viper on Carbon Rom (4.4.2). So if in case you're sticking to the stock rom only for Sony's media apps, you can even give kitkat a try

The best HW media player for the One X

Anybody know which the best HW supporting media player is for the One X?
I really like dice player but it won't let me fast forward M2TS files :/
try bs player (my player of choice for hd content) or mx player.
I think alla other players than DICE player makes the HOX get hot .
I watch videos all the time using bs player and it doesn't get hot for me. Long story short though try those apps see which is best for you.
Dice player for me is awful there's loads of my media it doesn't play well (it struggles with the audio tracks mostly).
I think BSplayer is the best one! It plays everything! It even plays in HW-mode through network, which most of the other have serious problems with. And directly from rars too.
However, the only player we know for sure that's using the companion core is the built in one, but maybe power-saving isn't any concern? But with HW-decode on the other players, one should think the load should be low enough for the companion core, but who knows?
yup thats what I found, if you want something that just works with your media bs player is the one. I tried every player going for some of my media and that was the only one that handled the audio tracks properly etc.
I dont think any 3rd party players yet will be optimized for tegra 3 to use the companion core, the stock player does it so thats good it shows it can be done but there are not many devices out there yet with tegra 3 so 3rd party apps havent caught up.
No luck either on all players i've tried with fast forwarding m2ts files
Bs player was one of the best ones I found
However I think i'll stick to Dice player for now, everything seems to play smoothly. Just a shame I can't fast forward/rewind m2ts files
Have you tried Mobo player? It's free and so far has managed everything I have thrown at it...
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Yeah i've tried that as well sadly, it doesn't like my m2ts files either
I'll have to find some way of muxing them to mkv cheers anyway
you could try format factory http://www.formatoz.com/ and I hear good things about video spirt (get the light version for free) http://www.verytools.com/videospirit/index.html
I am using mx player pro version and it is good. It can play all videos.

MXPlayer.
It's bad-ass. I haven't found anything it won't play (oh.... hang on, flv's! - but I don't have any)
+1 for MXPlayer. This app is awesome. Great quality video and support subs.
But what I like the most is that it can play file streamed from PC with very little buffering (depend on video size though). I really enjoy watching without having to transfer tons of files to the phone
Also an MX player user. Would get the pro if it was on sale otherwise happy with the free version.

I used mxplayer for a while but it struggled with Mkv with ac3, and in s/w mode it got hot.
I switched to dice and it not only plays Mkv with ac3 flawlessly but stays cool.
Watching 720p videos on this phone is just amazing... Sometimes it's better than watching on a big screen. there is more depth to the picture.

thats basically exactly the issue I keep having with it, loads of my media is MKV and most of it has AC-3 audio which mx player fails at. Sure dice works well for it but so does BS player
Either way there are good options out there, its just a shame that I ended up paying for mx player and vplayer etc only to have to use a free app (bs player) because they dont do as good a job

Hi.. Sorry I may sound noob but I've never knew we can stream videos from pc to HTC one X. Can you please guide me how to do so? And yeah I have MX player, if that is what's required.
Just share your movies as you would share any other folder, open it with a file manager from your phone and play the files (this is technically "streaming" but still you watch your movies without having to transfer them). MX does nice job but some files need to be played in sw mode when played from a network location.

[Q for jellybean users] What rom will be best for me?

Hey guys!
I am looking for a rom based on 4.1.2 .
Important thing what rom must have :
- the best able quality for xperia play - i am someone like audiophile
I do not demand high performance (because its jellybean) but will be good when i can play games like deathworm, guerillabob, minecraft and pokemon's at MyBoy emulator without lags.
Also rom shouldn't have too many bugs for normal phone using.
For now i have tryed Play Zcm 4.1.2 but this rom lagging for no reason. I mean the UI sometimes lagging and shortcut sometimes dont works.
What rom should i try for now? Also is there any "audiophile" here? If yes, what music player are you using?
I don't think I am an audiophile, but I like listening to music and my favorite player is Poweramp. It really has tons of options... check it out

did you try cm10?
but why JB? any feature or software that requires it?
btw: using apollo
the hardware restricts the quality here. if the file is not lossless, the headphones can't handle every tone and the phone itself is badly shielded you can't do anything about it. equalizer and software enhancements are not a true enhancement in terms of quality.

Well i think from JB we can do better audio quality like from others version (or im wrong?)
I am using only flac's (losless) audio files and superlux HD668B headphones -- not the best, but sound quality is really cool.
For now i am trying Xperia play Ultimate HD 1.0 and sound quality is just, ahh. AMAZING! Like a the best i had hear! I think for now i will stay at this rom.
Also i tryed the apollo player but sound quality was normal. Not very good, not bad. Just good.

why is video so much sharper with stock video?(compared to MX Player)

I have always used MX Player on all of my Samsung phones and tablets for at leas the last 3 years.
I've never used the stock Samsung video player to play anything until today. I noticed the stock video player
produced a MUCH sharper picture than MX Player. I tried this comparison on my phones as well and got
the same results.... the Samsung stock video player always had the sharper pictures. (Note 3, Note 2 and
S4)
I tried to adjust everything setting in MX Player that I can think of, including codec, and changing from HW to
HW+ to SW decoding.... made no difference. The picture was always softer than the stock video players.
All of the videos were either 720p or 1080p MKV/MP4s.(recorded from 1080i output from my HD DVR
or converted from Blu-ray discs)
Is there something else that I can do to make pictures sharper? (or at least as sharp as stock video player?)
Thanks!
stock video player is optimized for the display. may be thats y
Yeah stock is optimized for your device which is why while MX player is compatible for most versions of android of devices which is a lot to optimize for each device.

I guess it's the AC3 codec you have problem with, it's been mentioned before if you take a look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/codecs-samsung-video-player-t2812549
but it's a easy fix, if you read the post I made in the thread it will let you play AC3 audio too, so now I'm using the stock video player instead of MX Player.

no, not what I heard of as they removed support for AC3, you can use MX Player if you don't want to root it, but it's really simple to root. what version of Tab S do you have?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/cf-auto-root-chainfire-t2881826
Is it psychological or is it possible there is no difference playing a 2560x1600 video between MX player and stock player? I mean, I don't see this difference you speak of, but I want to make sure.
Any way to stream to the samsung video app from my pc via smb. Right now I'm going through es explorer and it's ok on 720p but on 1080p m2ts or mkv I get loading circle every few seconds.
I get the same from mx player too. Bsplayer can stream from smb directly but I think picture quality isn't as good or may be just my imagination.

You can guys articulate what exactly "optimized" means with regards to that?
Also wanted to point out about the audio with the stock player Is that it has 7.1 surround sound which makes it incredibly better than the MX Player decoded with a double volume amp

Can anyone else verify that the stock player looks better than mx or bsplayer. I tried playing the nature video that comes on the tab S and a few others and they look about the same to me. Hard to tell. Maybe it's a little better, but that could be placebo effect.
On the other hand, there are lots of video the stock player just can't play.

The crap about stock being "optimized" is pure bull****. The standard and decoding algorithms are well defined and the only possibility is if stock adds artificial sharpening which would actually reduce quality compared to the intended picture. This is pure placebo and a lively imagination talking. Just use mx and enjoy a much better codec support.

Hey there!
My question is not exactly about the stock and mx player video player but about videos. The question is I know that the resolution of the tab's display is very very high and with this high resolution watching movies with their lower resolution the movies on this tablet won't be as sharp as the display itself, so the question is which resolution is ok for watching on this tablet? I mean if I download a 720p movie or series and try to watch it on the tab s 8.4 will it be sharp enough not to realize the pixels during the film or for example a DVD quality film is also ok with this tablet to watch on? Hope you could understand me, i'm hungarian and hard to describe my problem. )

Good sites for streaming 4k

For demos I've been using http://demo-uhd3d.com/categorie.php?tag=h264 for a while and most of the mp4 will stream straight to the video player.
Any other recommendations?

You could probably try a custom youtube app that allows 4k video viewing or you could try recording a video in 4K and reviewing its quality

If by playing videos yes and having deceant ability to handle different formats or encoding then also yes
Features im not sure , personally im fine with it.
Thanks...I was surprised at how well the built in video players for HTC and Samsung had gotten...although VLC is coming along well too...not sure if these video players support 4k...Sony's should though.
I make short animations time to time and it seems to be fine playing 5000x2000 videos on my Z2 using the stock video player
I cant really wait till i can have a Z5
