Check out the Settings->Storage screen to see where all the storage is being used, maybe you have too many apps? If it is files, I would download ES File Explorer, it has some great utilities for finding and cleaning up your storage.
Use the app DiskUsage.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.diskusage&hl=en
It will tell you exactly where all your big files are.
Or sdmaid

with a root explorer see what is taking your memory in data/media, you may have nandroid backups for example.

My internal SD is totally full. I do not take a lot of pictures and perhaps have 5 gigs of music. Is there a program to clean up junk, and or free up space?
I use this app to move apps and to clean phone https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.advancedprocessmanager
Also setup box account and drop box account and such to save stuff on cloud.

Mount your internal via USB, cut and paste it to your PC. You can upload it to your dropbox or any other cloud service and it will always be available

LOL awesome..
Seriously though, just use explorer, copy the stuff you know you want off it and delete the rest in non-system directories.. That's what I do.. Then again, you could always get a big whopping 64gb sdcard and use it instead..
Look in your download folder. Old roms were my problem.

Had a few files in download. Was able to free up 1.5 gigs
Something seems to be wrong with the calculation of my internal storage. I feel like I should have more free space. Any ideas where this used space could be hiding? And how I'm using 523MB for pictures isn't possible, I have around 70 photos on this phone. They average 2MB each.

I only have one nandroid back up. The files in the backup folder aren't particularly large though.

Download Es file explorer, once inside click menu "3 dots" click manager then click SD card analyst. It will show you what your apps are eating or various things being stored. Most likely my guess is a bunch if non sense thumbnails. Probably a bunch of small files.

Glad I found this. Was finally able to locate some old game files that were taking up 3 GB !!Thanks!
I have the exact same problem and this worked, but when I delete it it says the space is free, but j get out and go back and the files are all back again. Its been like this ever since I rooted and unlocked my phone.
Hi,
My New N7100 shows the Total Space as 10.36GB and Available space is 9.92GB !! From what i've read before I should have around 10.36GB as available space, is my phone normal???
Go to storage and see what is using space.
Sent From Samsung's Galaxy Note II Using Internet
I guess you didn't get my question correctly....I did that already...i'm talking about the actual phone space out of the box
Im having 10.36 as Total and 10.36 as available.
That should be the correct specs on your phone.
Look again if there are some folders or stuff eating up the ~1 gb. Dropbox or something.

Hmmmm.....i'll do that and report back, thanks.
Did you login with your Google play/Gmail account during the initial startup wizard? If you had previously installed apps from Google store it might automatically start installing them and that could be the reason you didn't get the total storage.

yes just tap the misc files line to see the files. my note 2 had 9.92 as the out of box storage. there will be little variance in the storage depending on the region it has been released in.

I rooted my s4 but I have no clue how to move anything to the micro sd card its 32 gigs class 4 I bought music from the playstore and some apps and just want to move it to the sd. This is my first android I had ipod/iphones before this
Welcome to Android
First off, congrats on the switch to Android. I personally believe you won't want to go back to iPhone. With that said, I don't have my S4 yet, but if it's anything like other Androids, you can use a file app (I use Astro) and move any files back and forward as you see fit. You can also mount the phone to a PC and move it that way or put the SD card itself in the PC. If your filling up the whole 32GB or a lot of data, the fastest would probly be mounting the SD card itself into the PC.
Hope this helps, but then again.... I'm still waiting for the S4 to release in my area.
I found a way to move the music to sd card just not apps I think they made it harder to move because no apps I download do it but ill try astro. Ipod/iphone jailbreaking is simpler lol.

Not if you plan to install games.
I have a 32gb iPhone 5 and have at least 17gbs in games alone.
I'm also looking for a way to install apps on the SD card.
I haven't open my GS4 yet so I can return it incase we can't.
600+ for a 9GB is a not good.
@@@use " link2sd " application...download from play store...its not only let u too move apps to sd...and u can also uninstall unwanted system apps if u [email protected]@@
Hey guys so when in my storage options it does not adequately reflect my storage availability I'm wondering if this is normal. This only represents about 4-5 gigs being used but only 700mb available. Is this normal? I honestly don't have that much on my internal but it is running low faster than it should be. Just wanted to know if this is normal.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
I would venture to say that's not normal... Try an app called "Disk Usage" and see what exactly is taking up the space.

Now what exactly could cause the system data to soar to 7GB? Have you tried exploring around the directories to see exactly what files or directories are abnormally large?
Op-is your device rooted
Backups may be the issue then.

Thanks for all the responses I just got a chance to look at this I'll take a look at that app and see what I get. What kinda backups are we talking? Because I haven't intentionally backed anything up. And I am rooted yes
Edit: currently running wicked v4 but have had a few before that with same circumstances. I always factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik cache.

I've looked through everything, and using the disk space app, showed about 5.7 gigs to system. Went through system couldn't find specifics as the culprit or what I could remove to make space. Is there any type of reset that'd clean it up, like a Odin flash? I'm usually better with these things but this is just odd and outta character for me.

I think I found the problem I was wondering wtf was going on... Everything has been different folder setup in cwm than before when I go to flash from SD card I get 0, legacy, and one other folder. Well... I found a folder in my system called emulated... It's basically two extra copies of my entire internal system. Anyone know where this came from? And how to prevent it from reoccurring? It shows updated today. Please correct me if this is not the issue... Gonna try deleting it will post after
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
Well... That only deleted everything on my internal SD... Wtf so strange. My internal SDcard showed like 2.7 gigs taken up the 'emulated: legacy and 0' folders were exactly 2.7 gigs each... Leading to the theory these were copies of the internal SD but when deleted they took the internal with them, now it shows I have 3.3 gigs avail and one being used... Outta 9+ gigs... Wtf ha
