[Q] Moving system files.. - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

I have rooted my phone (samsung s5660) recently and installed jellybean, partitioned sd card and moved lots of apps on it but I can't move system files. I use Link2sd to do that but a button "creat link" is not clickable for system files. So, I wonder if I can somehow do that. if there is alredy created guide, I'm sorry 'cause I couldn't find it and hope you help me)

[Q] Any uses for /system folder? (Rooted Phone)

I've a strange question that might or might belong in the development thread, but figured since it's a question, I'll try here first.
I'm using a Stock DeOxed Rooted Rom on my EVO.
I recently installed a few more apps and saw this pesky little warning about low on space.
When I went into my "SystemPanel" app to see how much space was left exactly and noticed that my /data folder only had around 30megs out of it's 428M available.
Ok.. time to delete some apps I thought, but then I noticed that my /system folder (Where I presume pre-installed apps live) had almost 1/3 of it's space still available (115 out of 350megs available).
So I'm wondering.....
Is there some method that I can use to install Apps directly to this folder instead of the standard /data that apps appear to go to when installed?
Is it as simple as moving the APK file with Root Explorer, or are there some under the hood items in apps that prevent this sort of thing?
I've a few rather large apps that I cannot move to the SD card due to widget problems and the like but would be perfect for the system folder if I can find a way to move them there easily.
Thoughts?

/system/app is where system apps are kept. If I remember correctly, any app can be installed into there, but you have to do through flashing an update.zip if I'm remembering properly. You may be able to take the apk that's in /data/app for the app you want to move and move it to /system/app, but I'm not sure if that will work properly or not. Someone who cooks ROMs might know more.
Also, you can partition your sd card and use true apps2sd with most ROMs. Its a little bit of work and will shorten the life of your card, but that gives you a lot more room if you need it.
I don't know that there's a way to move user apps to system. It's very possible there is a way, I've just never seen any posts about it. Apps 2 SD is usually the way to go.
ps. 30 megs?!?! Geez, how many apps do you have?

Easy peasy
First, use a true apk backup tool to backup e apk files you want to move. Titanium backup will NOT work because it compresses and distorts, and we need true apk files. I recommend file manager by adao team. Just go to applications, check what you want, and hit backup. Next, get the apk files on your computer by mounting sd and copying files from backups folder. You will lose all app data, but what can you do? Next, adb push the files to system app folder while in recovery mode (just say so if you don't know how to do this and i will tell you) and reboot. Done. Tell me if it works well.
By the way, 30 megs???
Doesn't froyo install to the sdcard if you tell it to?
I thought a2sd was obsolete
You can put apps there after changing the folder's permissions but I wouldn't recommend it. Just not a good idea to put regular apps there.
Just install them to your SD card instead

go into the android app manager and go through all your programs and click on move to sd card...
they will all still occupy some space on your nand, but not nearly as much.
Thanks for the advice, I thought it might not be as easy as moving them, oh well, just seems a shame for there to be over 100 megs I cannot do anything with.
I already had moved all I could to the SD card prior to posting this, but thanks for that advice as well, I'm sure others forget they can do that with Froyo.
As for the 30 megs I had left.. we'll it's back up to about 70 free which should be plenty for a while. (Remember we only have about 420 to start with).
Some of the big ones which could not be moved to the SD card are:
Swype (Deleted, took over 17megs)
TouchDown (12 megs.. must keep for tasks sync sadly)
Google Maps update (7.6 megs)
Documents to go (8megs)
A few various games that cannot yet be moved to the SD card at around 5megs each..
The rest are just lots of little apps.. I'm sort of an app junkie You should have seen my old Palm Centro... it was amazing!
According to Titanium, I currently have 194 'User apps', though I think a few are simply widgets, icon packs and the like.

[Q] "All" apps missing after removing SD card (apps2sd)

I had to test another SD card so i borrowed my girlfriends Wildfire... (oh-o..)
It's rooted & last WildPuzzleRom, I turned it off, replaced the SD card and restarted it. Then I put back the original SD card when i was done and restarted it again thiniking that the apps will re-initiate.
Now most of her apps are missing except basic Sense ones. Most troublesome is that the market app is gone to so i can't install any new apps or (re)install Titanium to backup her data (mostly sms) before reflashing it all.
When looking in the "native" app mangager i can see the apps installed and the size of their data folders but the program size is 0.00kb
Please help
1: Can i force restart/remount/rescan of apps2sd apps?
2: can i force an (re)installation of titanium without having access to market/astro or any file manager?
3: Can i somehow backup her SMS etc in any other way?
Pics etc are ok thank g*d since they are on the FAT32 partition but if i don't get the rest fixed there will be most unpleasant consequences for me, i trully beg of your support or she will have me neutered!
Check the apps2sd commands page in the first instance. I'm mobile at the moment so can't help much.

any way 2 move app 2 sd [Q]

ive recently installed the ics 4.0.4 to my arc s but its driving me crazy i cant move the apps to the sd card my phone is rooted allright but link2sd doesn't work any idea on what should i do
Links2sd is the only way to move apps to the sd card that can't be moved there by apps2sd.
Just out of interest, have you followed the guide on xperia blog for links2sd? Worked perfectly for me.
The format program has updated a bit but is still easy to use....
EDIT: The link http://www.xperiablog.net/2011/12/12/link2sd-guide-never-worry-about-internal-memory-limits-again/
thanks dude ive fixed the problem some how i dont know exactly but ive kept missing with super user until some how it started working again
but this time it's even stronger than before it can move any app no matter the circumstances even the system apps r moved so i to get a little bit cautious with it now
No worries, don't worry if you move a system app. It will still work as long as you've got the SD card it. Trust me, I've done it by accident before
As a note, it won't let you move apk's from the system/vendor directory. But it does say that it can be moved, so don't worry that something's gone wrong. It hasn't.
thanks man i hope that what u say is wright

Glad I could help. BTW i don't recommend moving system apps to the SD as it could mess other apps up. But if you do there is an unlink button.....
EDIT: If you do delete some files, XperienceD has made a backup of everything http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1141898
I'm using the Link2SD and Titanium BackUp to freeze / defreeze, uninstall / restore, link / unlink the system / user apps around /system/app, /data/app, SD or sd-ext area....

[Q] Cannot Install Any Apps At All Even With Free Memory

I've been removing some bloatware on my phone with root explorer (because this is the only method that works since I need to mount r/w on the veondor folder), it's been working great and it's much faster now. Suddenly whenever I try to install from the market or an APK it now says I have insufficient storage available when I have 59mb of memory left on my system and plenty of GB on my SD card. I can still update apps through the market perfectly fine but nothing else works.
Things I removed...
From .../System/App
-Officesuite.apk
-talkback.apk
From .../System/Vendor/App
-datatrafficswitch.apk
-semccrashmonitor.apk
-timescapespline,apk
-timescapewidget.apk
-widgetonoff.apk
-playnow.apk
-letsgolf.apk
I deleted these from looking at a guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614761
I am on firmware .587
I'm not sure if this was the cause because I have installed some firmware changing packs such as the nxt theme but ThillanaC and .587 Framework Deodexer by papayayoghurt.
If anyone can help it would really help, and I do have a nandroid backup from before all this but I would prefer to know what caused this.
System space not the same as Data space.

The applications you deleted resided in the System partition of your internal memory but the new ones you want to install require space on the Data partition. So unless you can use an application like SystemCleanup to move some old apps to the System partition you still won't be able to free up space in the Data partition.
I've had apps fail to install when I've had as much as 60MB free. It really does suck - Sony just didn't give us enough space for apps. Either move some apps to your SD card or install Link2SD and kiss this problem goodbye forever. There is a great guide here:

It's well worth doing and doesn't take very long at all.

clockwork mod and root questions on Galaxy s3 question.

I am attempting to install clockwork mod on my Samsung galaxy s3 and want to know if the Samsung Galaxy s3 (metroPCS) in the setup is the right install for model number SGH-I747M. Im asking this because when rooting my phone i used the wrong Samsung root and ending up bricking my phone. I then went to a store where they do that kind of stuff and got them to recover and install root for me. Im still running on stock firmware thou. Wondering also if im fine with stock firmware 4.1.2, but would stock firmware limit me in any way for root apps?
Termal emulator the java enabler scripted for dolphin doesn't work for me. Also someone link me to that muiltitouch scripted.
DroidSailAPP2SD sometimes when i have it guided to install to SD card it says insignificant space for some apps. I deleted the cache for playstore like i read on another post and i think that worked maybe.
when i click on install to sd card it just brings me to the app info page. Is that normal or is there soppost to be some sort of progress bar.
If I install on sd card and take out the card will the apps be disabled or will it crash?
Just installed ADfree didn't seem to get rid of adds on tetris. Maybe i have to set it up some how?
Rom toolbox seems like, a all around program. Worth the full version?
uninstaller app worked wonderfull.

I went in the dolphin settings and checked and there is a flash box i picked it. I think it has flash now. haven’t checked. The forum i must of read was prob old and they added it in a newer update.
I really think apps are not installing on SD card. I looked under clockwork mod and theirs an option to partition the SD card for installation of apps. Like I said I press the install to SD card and it goes to app info page on a different app. I don't see any transferring bar or anything. Next time i gotta see how much memory i have to compare.
Is that what I was I soppost to do? I still haven’t installed clockwork mod im afraid of it being a different version still.
i don't think Droidsail is doing anything. I select the file then click on move selected app and it asks me for root access and when it does it goes to the app info page. No progress bat or anything.
I found another app called foldermount witch I think makes a directory on your sd card with the app. looks like it works. looking at the folder it seems that it just copys the app. When i check how big the app folder is it's the same size both on the sd card and internal. Apps are located at Android/data right?
I need a answer for the clockworkmod asap.
I found another thread about Mounts2sd.It requires me to make a SD-EXT partion do i do this by enabling the cache-move the cache partion to data or sd-ext. going to read the thread thouly
