[Q] Download obb files to pc? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Is there any method that i can download obb files of games using pc? i use the apk downloader extension to download the apk but there's nothing for the obb files. I want to do this because i have slow connection. I also tried the reverse tethering tutorial on the xda forums for using the bandwidth of pc in tablet but it works only for rooted tablets even though usb tethering is on by default in nexus 7.

Usually obb files are data files for apps and games.
These files are either extracted throw the apk, created by the app or game once running or downloaded by the app or game. They're located in sdcard /Android/obb, you can try to search the app or game on the Web through Google and some sites allow the obb file to be downloaded too, then you just need to put in the directory. Once it's done it's only gone when uninstalled, but I don't think there's much more ways
You can save (backup) the files once you have them tho.

Opening stored PDF files

If I download a PDF file from the browser, it gets stored in the Download folder and I can open it with the downloads app. However if I copy a PDF file from my laptop directly to the Download folder (using MTP) the app does not see it. For music, copying to the Music folder works fine. What is the recommended method for copying files like this so they are accessible on the phone?

Have you tried using an explorer program like Astro to see if it's actually been copied to the device?
I can see and open the file with a file explorer (ES in my case) but my point is that surely it should not be necessary to use third party apps to view a PDF file? I found a thread on android central (I'd link to it but I'm too new to be trusted) that said the downloads app is an app for opening downloaded files only, i.e. presumably based on the browser history, and is not an interface to the Download folder.

That is correct. If you want to find a file in a particular folder including downloads, you'll either use to pdf app to browse for it or a file explorer to do the same. Downloads only gives you info of stuff you have downloaded through the phone.

accessing the internal memory on pc

hi,
i recently got the xperia play for christmas and i want to play my psone games on it. so i got the PSXperia tool but requires to get a .apk and .zpak files, which are in the internal memory, which i cannot access through windows explorer. is there a tool that allows me to access this? its an unrooted phone, on 2.3.4
thank you
AFAIK none of the instructions @ https://github.com/yifanlu/PSXperia/wiki require you to access the internal memory.
Urrr...not on the website...on the actual application though
"You need to extract some files from the Crash bandicoot apk that came with your Xperia Play
The APK is either com.sony.playstationblahblahblah.apk or com.sony.playstation.blahblahblah.apk in the system/app folder of your android phone's INTERNAL MEMORY"
So I can get the ZPAK from the SD card, however I cannot get the APK. Help?
You should be able to use adb pull to get it
(Do a temp root with zergRush if you have to).
Sorry Im a noob could you explain what those are and how you do it?

Download Astro File Manager from the Android Market. Launch the app and find the directory where the APK file is located, which is in "/system/app".
Press down on the APK file and tap on "copy". Then go back to your SD card and paste it there.
^^ This was the fastest way I was able to get that APK file.

Uninstall apps on ICS SGN...

Hi all,
I have downloaded fifa 12 and after realising that it don't work, I immediately proceed to uninstalling it.
The problem is fifa 12 downloaded an additional resource of appx 1.2gb. And removing the app doesnt remove this 1.2gb.
How do I remove an app entirely... else I think I wasted a lot of storage spaces.

Download a file manager
Form my G-Nex *****
how did you uninstall it? i'm assuming if you just uninstall via the Play Store or Settings, then reboot, the files would disappear.
If the game put its files where it should they are deleted automatically when you uninstall.
I uninstall through settings ... however my used storage still stands at 3.2gb

Get a file manager go into sdcard/Android/data and delete it there
A Filemanager is one way but often there is a much easier way with ICS:
Identify the orphaned files/folder via Settings > Storage. Most of the time you can just delete the unwanted files right from this menu or at least get the location of the files to delete them with a file explorer.
damn was going to get fifa aswell.
FIFA not working????????

This is a great non-bloated file manager. Free and open source.

[Q] Help installing .apk + Data

I got my N7100 2 days ago so I am very new to this. I am trying to install a game called Heroes Call. I have downloaded the .apk and the data files but I am not sure how to install it. I have managed to put the apk on my phone and run it so that program is now installed but I am not too sure were to put the big data file.
I have been trawling the web to try and figure it out and have seen one person say put it in /android/obb. There is no such folder in the android directory just minisnote and Data.
I have created a folder called obb and just put the downloaded data file that ends in .obb in that folder. now when i run the game the startup screen (that little monkey) just stays on the screen and nothing else happens at all.
Can anyone shed some light on this. I know its a free app but i cant download it in this country of i go through the google play store
Cheers

erm... its free
Before you begin, delete anything associated with that app. The data and app.
Since this is a free game, I'm inclined to help.
Install the app first, but don't open it. Then transfer the data files. Once that's done, you can open the app.

Yeh but i don't get were i am copying the data to thats what i mean. I would pay for it if i could because it looks awesome. When i install the apk it creates a folder in android/data and in that folder is Cache and Files. do i put the obb file in either of those sub files or just in the data file? the closest i have go is running the app and it say downloading resources but then i get the error no resources available
Ok since it is free, I am offering u a solution. Use 7 zip to extract the .obb file and keep it in sdcard/android. Hope it works.

Nope didnt work still just get error could not locate resources. Should have stuck with my iphone haha. Was looking forward to having a bash on that game haha
If it is an obb then copy it to android/obb. Make sure you copy the folder eg. Com.blah.blahblah not the obb itself.

maybe you downloaded a corrupted file. I just downloaded the game and its data. I am playing it right now =P
I was thinking that but it can't be. I have downloaded about 3 different versions. I am thinking now that the problem is that its not available in this country. Once you run the game does it have to connect to the play store even briefly? I can install the apk move the data files and then when i run the game the logo appears and it says looking for resources. Then after about 15 seconds it says cannot locate resources

Step by step how to install the game using APK and data:
1. Download the game that you want to install. Install / run. Apk after the download complete select “DONE”.
2.Move the game data to target folder location
3.install/run the apk file of apps / games-a, after the progress is done select “open”.
4.When it`s asking for Download data just leave it , you can simply press the “HOME”.
5.run the “file explorer” and insert the data in the target folder.
6.Install / run again the game-a apk.
7.After it`s done select “open”, if it the choice for Download data appears select “YES” (make sure you are connected WIFI), while the progress the download is running the range of 2-5%, cancel it. You only need the application make the target folder in your memory card.
8.Move the data-a to target location

OR YOU CAN ADD DATA FILE TO OBB IN ANDROIDN(/SDCARD/ANDROID/OBB)
THEN IT WILL WORK
IF IT WORKS THEN HIT THANKS
How to export apk with apk+userdata
I want to backup my apps with user data. I am using Go Backup and restore but it backups both apk and user data file separately, I want it to be in a single apk file. So that others whom i send the apk don't have to use Go Backup and restore to restore my user app data.

i might be a bit late, but you have to create a folder in android called obb (small cases) and place the folder that should start with 'com.' in it. before you do this, install the apk but DONT OPEN IT.. Click done. so finally, when you have downloaded both apk and data( the folder), you can open your game which should be installed on the menu.
P.S i know im verry lat, soz.

T-mobile Galaxy S4 write protection bypass?

So I rooted my Galaxy s4 yesterday but the Obb folder in my sdcard/android folder is still write protected. I tried going on Root Explorer and changing the permissions but it won't let me. I also tried renaming it, changing the permissions, and renaming it again but it crashes Root Explorer and resets the permissions back to normal. How do I get around this?
Any reason why you need to write to your obb folder? Are you pirating apps??

No, I have already bought the games but I want to download modded versions of them just for the sake of doing as I please in the game. But the write protection is in the way.
Found a solution
I found that if you use AntTek Explorer and go to Device Root/Storage/Sdcard0/Android/obb, you will find the obb folder that is not write protected. I transferred my obb file from my computer to the Android folder and just used the app to drag the obb file into the obb folder. I'm not sure if this works on other root explorers. Good luck
