Hello,
I have been running latest CM for a while but recently, on several occasions, the phone sticks on Logo, and when I reboot in recovery it asks for encryption password. I never encrypted phone, and during these instances the internal storage shows 0Mb. I have to Wipe completely and reinstall. Then the same thing will happen on reboot. What could be the cause?
Sorry, I am fairly n00bish at this so bear with me
Nick

4.2.2 on a rooted, unlocked One X
I was using Minitools Partition, with the device mounted to PC, in CWM, I followed some fairly simple instructions, which called for me to delete the original partition (25GB) which I did, I then set 3GB Ex2 (for apps to sd card) and the rest 22GB FAT32. THat all seemed to work fine.
BUT now I am now being asked to "type encryption password" every time I boot the phone, what format should the SD card be? Have I got the partitions wrong? SD card will no longer mount in recovery, plus I cant get pass this screen (password request) when turned on. The ROM is loading, to request this password, its happening after the X, perhaps my instructions where wrong from the beginning?
These are the ones I used,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/SD_card_partitioning
Things I have tried,
1 changing the format and partitions of sd card, to everything you can think of (eg 2GB FAT, 1GB Ex2, 21GB FAT32)
2 Wipe data/ factory reset, in recovery
3 Flashed boot.img to device, in bootloader.
4 fastboot format userdata, in bootloader (something i read in a thread)
3 Factory reset, in bootloader.
Nothing, the ROM still loads, up until this screen with an option for emergency calls, dialer does appear so ROM is fine? CWM works fine, however as you might expect I cant mount SD card in recovery and needless to say I just cant get passed this password request screen.. I feel like if I try and wipe system and flash the ROM again, ill just come up against the same problem, or worse just brick my device, as I cant load any Zip files.... which has only just dawned on me, any ideas people?
many thanks
Tim.
I have the same issue on my HTC ONE XL ATT ... but my phone randomly rebooted and when it turned on it got to DECRYPT STORAGE, i didnt even do anything... and i really dont feel like re-installing my rom ... idk what to do exactly now. i can boot up into recovery and access all my files but i dont know what happened...
same issue here with galaxy nexus after installing 4.2.2, ive tried odin, fastboot, everything but after the phone reboots loads the same os and it reboots a few seconds later.
Hi there,
I have DHD with QSense_Multy rom. It was working fine, but all of a sudden, after I took a photo, the device rebooted and stuck on the logo.
I backed all the partitions up, formatted all of them, and installed the same rom from scratch. After that everything works fine.
Then I tried to restore DATA partition, and the issue happened again - the loading process stuck on the logo.
So, the problem is somewhere in DATA partition, and my question is how to figure out what causes the problem and what are the options to solve the issue and save the data?
root and s-off enabled, recovery: 4EXT Recovery Touch
Thanks in advance for all your help.
Need help after "encryption unsuccessful" trying to encrypt the internal memory.
Hi experts,
yesterday I tried to encrypt even the internal memory of my Xperia M5. After pressing the start button and thereafter asking for the unlock pattern the phone showed for a second the android logo, then went into a mode, showing only an animated startup-image. For 8 hours nothing more happened. Then I pressed all 3 buttons Power-VLM up&down to restart the phone running into the error meassage screen "encryption unsuccessful". The only option was to reset the phone erasing the internal memory. WTF went wrong?
Unfortunately I have no complete backup to restore the system. And worst is that I ran the system encryption for the sd-card since 12 month already with the effect that I cannot access my picture gallery any more now. Probably the encryption key was stored in the internal memory that was erased by the reset of the phone.
Is there any way how I can regain the previous key for the sd-card encryption? I even know the PIN that I had used for encryption.
Update: I found a backup with titanium backup. How can I restore the encryption keys from there?
Basically, is it possible to backup encryption keys somehow?
PS: Phone is rooted.
I`d appreciate any help. Thanks!!!
I am asking a question which is posted many times on forum but this is weird situation and never happened to anyone..
it was last CM13 snapshot ( 21/12 's build ), then my phone got hanged and rebooted itself then it never started, just "Starting Apps" screen..
Then clean flashed CM13 snapshot but again happened same, stuck on Starting Apps screen..
Then flashed stock 4.3 with ODIN and it booted fine...
But after flashing different ROMs i come to know following conditions,
- 4.3 (stock) = starts fine without sticking at Starting apps
- 4.4 (CM, DU, RR ) = starts fine
- 5.1 (CM, DU) = stuck at Starting Apps
- 6.0 (aosp, DU, CM, Lineage) = stuckk
- 7.1 (lineage, DU ) = starts without stucking
This is happening with Lolipop and MarshMallow only.. don't know what makes different at LP/MM..
PS: I'm doing clean install (delvik-cache, data, cache, system, internal storage) ..
And after stuck, if i remove battery and try to start it again, it just goes into bootloop, Starting Apps screen appears only on first boot then it goes into Infinite loop..
The same is happening to me. I have noticed that it maybe caused by the delay mounting the external sd (that in my case is adopted as internal storage). It seems that it take a lot of time checking the filesystem, and so lot of time before sd is available. I tried starting removing sd from slot and it boot fast without bootloop, anyway this obviously is not a viable solution. I Wil try to delete some files or reformat the card... Sincerely I suspect a "timed" bug... Have you any news about?

My phone is i9250 (maguro) it doesn't has external sdcard slot, but somewhere you are right, it was a day when my internal sdcard was about to full..
I tried to take adb logcat and noticed there was some "media services" logs were looping, so did flash stock by odin and then installed cm13/lineage13 it worked but still sometimes it sticks to the same and now atleast rebooting solves it..
Don't know why it still sticks, if my sdcard is completely emplty then..!! May be loaing sdcard full caused hardware related damage..!!
PS: it never happens on any 7.1, 4.x ROMS, only on 5.x and 6.x... It's also mysterious...
I think I have just screwed up big time.
Here is what happened:
Had CrDroid 8 installed (Android 12) with encrypted storage
Wanted to upgrade to next version; following the guide, simply did a wipe (without any advanced options) in TWRP and then installed the zip
Realized after rebooting that the phone has been completely reset and internal storage shows as empty
I know that this is related to a problem with decryption by TWRP with A12.
My question is, is there any chance that I would be able to recover my lost files? I mean where did they go? What could have happened? Did TWRP just not understand the encrypted data so it threw it away and recreated it, overwriting these files?
Is there any chance that the previous data partition (my internal storage, all my photos, etc) are still somewhere to be found within the storage and I could locate this partition and decrypt it using my passphrase? I am desperate at this point. I am stupid and did not make backups. I thought this would be a regular upgrade, wipe, install ZIP, like I've done dozens of times... Couldn't I perhaps scan the raw disk devices for some magic string or anything that would mark the start of the encrypted partition?
Sorry about the frantic writing, I am devastated and literally begging for any kind of help with this. Thank you.
Sorry for the noise, I was desperate I gave up since then, I just don't think this is possible. As far as I understand the encrpytion keys have been flushed (which are kept in the TEE anyway?). I still don't fully understand why TWRP just decides to wipe /data/media as well as /data in this case, but what is done is done. Back up your data guys. Same old story.
