[Q] Folder removal - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Is there an app that will remove folders for apps that not installed on the tablet?

Just use any file manager and delete the folder

I was more looking for something that would remove all of the folders that are not being used with any installed app. With my luck, I would remove a folder that was important and cause more issues.

I would recommend using a file manager like Astro or ES Explorer.

You just need to install a file manager app from the market. Try astro file manager.

Delete unwanted files and folders under sdcard directory

hi, under my sdcard directory i can see 2 android folders. one is "Android" and the other is "android". is this a redundant folder? Should i delete one of them? Or are there really 2 "android" folders in jelly bean. And also can i safely delete hidden files left by uninstalled apps, those that starts with "." as in "sdcard/.doubletwist" . I have uninstalled doubletwist long ago and i just found this out lately. Is is safe to delete ./doubletwist then?
thanks

Do not delete either of them or some apps will lose data and could lose apps installed on the sdcard. Also as I tell everyone I helpout checkout my forums at android-developers.froumatic.com

There are no apps on the "sdcard" on a gnex. I would delete the .doubletwist directory. I only have an Android folder but I would look at file modification dates in both folders to see if one wasn't being used. JM2C

How do you find where installed apps are saved?

Hey guys. I have installed various apps in my phone and when I try to find the installed folder using a file manager, it's like all over the place. Most of them are inside the /sdcard/android/data... but some are just in the root of the phone storage.
Is there a way for me to know the path of a shortcut just like when you right click a shortcut in the desktop from your PC?
Thanks.
/system/app and /data/app.
Application files will have an .apk extension.
Corrected typo.

As previous poster said but .apk instead of .spk
The apps store their data where ever they want though. /data/data, /sdcard/, /sdcard/data/, /sdcard/android/data/, others.
Shortcuts work different in android. You use the shortcuts from the app list in your launcher. You can create shortcuts on launcher by long pressing an open space also.
One other way is to use intents to call a app but that's pretty advanced

Thanks guys. Reason I asked is I'm trying to find the path of apps I want to bind on SD using directory bind and its hard knowing where they are installed.
Remember in PC when we right click a shortcut, click properties, we can see the path of the installed files. Is there something like this in android?

[Q] Recovering 'hidden' photos after wipe

Hey XDA!
I have a quick question about recovering a 'hidden' folder that I can't find.
I recently just wiped my device and installed a new ROM with Philz Touch Recovery.
I looked through my photos and I can't find a special folder I had 'hidden.'
There's no option to 'show hidden content'
Is there any other place I can look? I backed up that particular DCIM folder from internal memory to my computer.
Then after I couldn't find the hidden folder in phone, I replaced the old DCIM folder to my phone's memory.. STILL can't find it.
Any help is appreciate at this point..
Thanks again!
Root explorer will show hidden files

Files made hidden by the stock gallery app will still stay in the DCIM folder, right?

I'm not 100 percent sure, but i think so. I don't use the stock gallery so i am not sure. But usually natural linux hidden attributes is simply adding a period to the beginning of the file or folder.

Omg I found it lol, so basically I made a random folder then hid it. Plugged it into my computer to find the folder name.
Of course with the option to view hidden files and folders.
Saw the folder I was looking for and opened file location. It's stored in:
Phone > Internal Storage > .hide > folder name
Thanks for your help, though.
