After reading about people complaining about the "poor" battery life of the HOX with sense 5 I decided to write a guide to improve it. By following all of the here-mentioned suggestions you will be able to easily achieve screen-on-time of about 4:30 hours without recharging!
You don't believe me? Look here:
On my second charging cycle i got around 5h14 of screen on time using youtube, browsing, whatsapp, reddit and music.

The following hints are mostly based on the suggestions of "Riro Zizo" click here and thank him!
1.disable haptic feedback: that way the vibrator inside the phone will stay always of and don't use battery
- also disable the haptic feedback in other apps like the keyboard, etc.
2. disable touch sounds, pull-to-refresh sounds, dial pad touch tones, etc. same idea like with the vibrator. speaker will stay of, don't use battery
3. disable all animations (settings --> developer settings -->advanced). GPU will be used less, run at a lower frequency and again save battery
- your phone will also seem much faster
4. use an other launcher (e.g. apex launcher)
- htc sense launcher uses very much battery (gsam battery monitor said around 17% of my battery)
- blinkfeed auto-sync also drains battery
5. lower screen brightness (my 5h+ screen time was achieved with stock auto-brightness but this should improve it even more)
- either enable the "reduce screen brightness" option in power saver (and keep it always on) or get an app like "lux auto brightness" to keep the brightness not higher than necessary-
- also reduce the screen timeout time.
6. delete unwanted apps
- htc has put a lot of bloatware on this phone but most of you won't use apps like "htc watch". there is also a buttload of google apps included that will have the need to sync and keep the phone awake. remove them.
7. disable unnessary sync-accounts
- by clicking on your email under the google account in "accounts and sync" you can choose which apps you need to auto-sync.
- also if possible increase the sync intervals to an acceptable duration
8. keep wifi, bluetooth, gps, nfc only on when neccesary
- add a widget to the home screen to toggle between them. you probably only use gps when you're on your way to work navigation and wifi can also be disabled when outside of your home. even if you're not actively using these connections there will be various apps that will still try. the weather app for example will use gps and data/wifi instead of just data/wifi to update its information
9. disable the backlight of the capacative buttons
- self-explanatory i hope
10. don't close apps
- with a few exceptions (games and apps that will still contine to work the same in the background) there is no need to close apps by pressing the back button a hundred times or swyping it away inside the running-app-screen. next time they will have to be loaded into the RAM again, which slow down the start and uses more cpu cycles.
11. remove unnecessary widgets
- they also update themselfs everytime you unlock your phone with leds to higher battery drain.
12. install a custom kernel
- this kernels often includes more up-to-date stuff and other improvments like added functionality
13. tweak kernel settings
- reduce the maximal frequency of the cpu, choose a less cpu-hungry scheduler, undervolt, etc. there are many different things you can tweak that will improve the performance and the battery life.
This are my current settings:
Kernel: Alex-V Kernel v. 2.6 PA3
scheduler: deadline with 128 kb read ahead buffer
frequency: 51mhz - 1000mhz
smart dimmer: active
multicore power saving: 2
gpu 3d scaling: on
gpu max freq: 420 mhz
undervolt: all steps -50 mv
governor: smartmax
remember: every phone and everyones needs are different. I am someone whon doesn't play games on his phone (because ****ty tegra 3) so this setup is good enough for me to keep a good performance for everyday use.
Wow nice will try it out cause my sense 5 takes too much battery

yes thanks that's what i meant.
it is not neccesary to this the kernel i mentioned in the 1st post, you can use any kernel you want, that has governor and frequency control (which basically includes every custom kernel available for sense 5 besides stock)

Woah, thats one long HOX if judging from screenshot lol, jk
i forgot to add that i was also able to reach a really GREAT stat....about 6h and 25 minutes or so with interactive 1,3ghz max, [email protected] and gpu scaling disabled with Alex-V 2.6 pa2...phone was away from charger about 11-12 hours...also played a bit a game so it's f#cking insane and awesome...the phone is not that bad...but some are having a slightly different chipset in build quality so it won't be that good like maybe mine or your bat life..

Right now I'm running FXP054 with the kernel OC'd to 1.4GHz. I also have cut down on a lot of running services in the background through the Autostarts app [ https://market.android.com/details?id=com.elsdoerfer.android.autostarts ].
What would be the best governor, I/O scheduler, & OC for the CM7.2.0 CDMA kernel?
What build.prop settings should I apply to get the most out of 3D gaming?
Any other options/settings/apps that I should be aware of for better gaming performance in general on my Xperia Play?
I'd greatly appreciate any insight. Thanks.
Download the Ram Manager pro app from the market. Use the default balance option when not gaming and use the hard gaming option when gaming.
I've tried all tweaks and zips and governors and everything possible. This application has made the biggest difference so far. Especially the lock home launcher option.
How much of a difference between that & the v6 Supercharged script in terms of performance?

Night and day. It's very difficult to give empirical evidence, so metaphors are about the best you'll get from me
V6 supercharger had zero to little effect overall. It did lock the launcher SOMETIMES, but other than that had very little effect on performance.
Ram manager pro is giving me a lot of performance and the different profiles are very clear and understandable. Unlike the vague and ambiguous settings on the supercharger.
I'll have to try that app out. How well does it do with Gameloft games? I tried Asphalt 6 last night & it ran well for a while until it decided to slow to a crawl on screen. I'm aiming to get a consistent gaming experience regardless of 2D or 3D.

That app actually doess nothing at all for the launcher.
Its the grouping shift without changing a single priority.
Its all about aggressive task killing without user input and that's it.
Use Update 9 RC4 as it has more options for high ram devices and makes recommendations based on ram.
Sounds like you used Update 8.

I did indeed use update 8. I will give the latest a try.
You say it does nothing for the launcher but I'm seeing some fantastic results i.e the launcher literally never dies.
It had to redraw once after playing modern combat 3, and the whole phone slowed to a crawl unexpectedly for 10 seconds and then back to normal. Other than that the application has been great.
Using the script, the launcher died regardless of which setting I chose even when it said I had a "hard to kill" launcher or whatever. It would work for a while but redraws were too common. Also, all tutorials seemed based around motorola phones so I had difficulty finding what options would suit mine the best.
Regardless, I'm grateful for fantastic devs like you, and this script is undeniably innovative. Expect a donation at the end of the month
EDIT:
IGNORE EVERYTHING I SAID EARLIER, HOLY CRAP UPDATE 9 RC4 IS DAMN GOOD.
Seriously, I uninstalled Ram Manager pro, it's totally unnecessary.
Supercharger update 9 RC4 using option 6 has been flawless for me.
ah yes U9 is much improved.

What apps should be bullet-proofed? I'm using script for the purpose of getting better gaming performance.
I just uploaded an RC5 test so try that
I meant the launcher... so if you eve get any redraw, pick bulletproof launcher so it can't be killed but then again if you don't have enough ram to load big games then the default die hard launcher is good enough... it should still almost never happen.

I started using RC5-test last night. It works really well. I noticed that it now has the Cust-OOM calc settings, which I'll apply tonight & see how it runs.
I really like how well done it is. I'll have to test out a few games this week.

If you go to custOOMizer it will ask if you want to load the calculated values so that you only have to say yes or no lol

Hi Zeppelin!
I would to test now Update 9 RC5. What ins the best Option for Play. On Update 8 i use Option 6 or 9 (MegaRam 2) but 6 feels smoother in the Launcher & UI.
Gesendet von meinem R800i mit Tapatalk
Test the calculated values as they are based on your actual ram.
I added that feature for device that fell between the HP group settings.
I tried to calculate balanced values but course you can tweak them to be more or less aggressive by playing with the slot 3 value as that has the biggest effect on typical free ram.
The other great addition is the auto calculated min_free_kbytes value so that you won't ever get too low on free ram while allowing for apps to be cached for speed.
Thanks for answer. I now use Option 10 Custom Settings on U9 RC5. Launcher is Die Hard.

I have some problems.
1. I am on stock ROM and Kernel..
In all mode, can not set CPU frequency more then 1.2GHz and less then 200MHz. Is this due to my phone kernel limitation?
2. I have also installed some power saving apps like Lux brightness, Greenify....
Is this app will kill all these app?

Ya change to ICS OC kernel ur stock kernel doesnt support OC.... Try Dorimanx kernel its OCd upto 1600 Mhz.. If u more concerned abt battery dont OC... Thx to the app i m getting 4+ hrs of screen on time...
Downloaded this for my nexus 4 and the idea of this app is pretty cool just open app and tap on 1 of the battery or power modes BUT i have a problem with this app which im not sure is normal or can be fixed, when i choose 1 of the power options e.g performance and i then want to switch to powersave or standby it does not change, i can tap on it and it will say powersave on but u can see on cpu its still on performance so basically have to reboot everytime i want to switch which obvioisly is very annoying
Question regarding Defence Feature
I am new to this app but eager to learn more about it and to increase it's effectiveness..
I am puzzled a bit about the Defence feature...
Does this feature identify apps that are using excess power so that one can disable them?
Any other uses for this feature?
thanks
Hi there!
I have 2 HTC One X, one of them is overheating in normal use and the other, with exactly the same use, is not.
I mean normal use by 10 minutes on facebook, 5 min on e-mail program, 5 min on internet browser.
Both have the same stock ROM version with Android 4.1.1, HTC Sense 4+, Software Number: 3.14.707.24.
During the tests they were not charging, almost same battery level and same installed and running apps. Also were purchased the same day in the same store. The only things that actually changes are the accounts, contacts and other personal data.
After use I have checked on Trickster MOD app to compare the temperature. And the Hot One X was really hotter, as expected:
- Hot One X:
Battery temperature: 42ºC Health: Good
CPU temperature: 52ºC
- Other One X:
Battery temperature: 35ºC Health: Good
CPU temperature: 39ºC
But, besides that, I saw something odd on the "Hot One X", it was not going into low cpu speeds.
Trickster MOD says:
Not Used States
51 MHz, 102MHz, 204Mhz
This explains why is getting hotter.
Also this is only happening on the "Hot One X", on the "Other One X" the Not Used States list is empty.
Here is a screen shot of the Hot One X:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Also, comparing to the "Other One X", the 340Mhz cpu speed is much less used on "Hot One X", what means it uses more higher speeds. There was no lags on neither phone.
So my question is:
Is there any way to make it use also the low speeds? I mean, is there any configuration for this?
I think that maybe there is some way to enable/disables cpu speeds, or make a profile: uses more that, less that.
If that is true, how to do it?
Thanks
anyone have any ideas?
Anyone facing the same issue? Install trickster MOD free from Play Store and check your One X

Both using "ondemand", but I tried "conservative" too and the same issue. Also I tried "powersave", but both devices became so so lag that I couldn't even open any other app (about 5 seconds to scroll down a page) so I selected "ondemand" again.
The overheat was happening on the Hot One X since the Jelly Bean update, even before Root Unlock and Trickster MOD. The Trickster MOD just helped me to guess what was happening.
tried factory reset already?

Yes, I've tried factory reset 2 times with Jelly Bean.
Haven't tried to reflash the rom, I'd like to use the original rom Jelly Bean or ICS, is that possible?
Isn't there any configuration for enable/disable cpu speeds?
Restarted several times using: turn off / turn on, restart from menu, turn off / hold power button for 20 sec. (slow startup), disable fast boot and restart.
Thanks
Any more ideas?
maybe you had mods installed on the other one? i had this before the cpu wont go down 1.5hz and then it over heats
Sorry, what mods do you say?
By the way, both devices were hard reseted and were installed exactly the same apps.
Isn't there any way to enable/disable cpu speeds? I guess it should be that somehow, maybe failure applying htc rom update.

Maybe u can try to flash new kernel or better yet flash stock rom again see if it still like that.

Thanks as always for the work and help Bry
thanks a lot bry !
will flash this tonight and report after playing with it for sometime
Nice! Works perfectly. Just what I was wanting to make my phone perfect.
Thanks guys. I cleaned this version up compared to the 443 version. I wanted a fresh start on this while maintaining the necessary goodies but not going overboard. Most of the additions to this version are under the hood.
Tried it and had problems.
1st boot up stuck at the HTC screen, I had to restart it, then it booted.
BT connected but had no voice, nor audio.
That's as far as I got before restoring.
It did work I just don't have the Free time at this moment to fiddle with the BT.
I have a concern y are u including gov like optimax in ur kernel when our board doesn't support thread migration?
which app would be best to control this kernel ?

i must admit its a pretty neat kernel.
phone doesn't heat up much.
the charging time is definitely lower than other kernels I've used so far.
can't comment on battery life now. will use it for a couple of days more and report later.
thank you for your awesome contribution to the m7 community bry.
the battery readings are unstable. 56% since the morning.
i have been playing parking simulator games, using whatsapp, hike and still the battery % wont change. rebooted the phone and the battery was like 47%. rebooted again and it went back to 55%.
Not sure if that's the kernel. I would imagine that the battery drivers would be in the ROM no?

It probably has to do with a battery mod. As there are a few to choose from in nusense, something might not have flashed correctly. I had similar issues on bonestock when I tried flashing my ecliptic battery mod. Because he had a mod in there too show better history stats, the battery mod would hang in percentages....so just my experience and it is probably something similar.

I don't think that is the case since the same thing would be happening with the default kernel.
Been running g the stock clock for days now, before release even and my battery hasn't done that.

I was attributing it to having an abundant amount of options, he may have had a bad install. That is all.

My life is complete. Well, show DU would be nice too but I'm close now.
Great to see this here
YAY! The Dev scene is really looking great for this device!
So... I get my HTC 10, and while my favorite ROM is here, I couldn't help but feel sad that my favorite kernel wasn't available yet. So I pop in to download the ROM, and here I find this thread.
Basically, my life is now complete. Thank you for completing my life flar2
Edit: Aww... The guy a couple comments above me beat me to expressing my life being complete. Well, I suppose we can share the love

Cool to see you here flar ?
Thanks for your work on all HTC devices ?
Curious about what your daily phone? ?
Good to have you here.
Nice done as always.

Oops typo.
Disable magnetic cover option claims to speed up file transfer but risk data loss, possibly not. Or given this is the 10 maybe the magnet slows it down.
And on reboot I saw that dreaded red text pop up saying its a sec build.. Not seen until now... Or did I just miss it on other kernel / rom reboots...
It's not so bad as on m8 as only shows for a second then continues, anyone else seeing it.

Nice to see again in common section @flar2
The 10 is now in good hands, I can go and fiddle with some more usability features instead of the freq mingling. I'm envious you got the nerve for such stuff.
How's this dim thing working BTW? What's it over the HTC slider for autobrightness maximum? Noob question
So you added modload hack for proprietary to work on Verizon 1.19 base default system modules? Or using su.d bind mounting? I don't like that modload hack, it's yucky.
hey @flar2
great to see you already released your kernel. Thank you.
however i have a few questions.
would you mind considering to add the button light notification feature from @tbalden ´s kernel as an aroma option? quite a neat feature.
and second. I´m the guy who pm´ed you about the ghostpepper like interactive profile. I notice there is a cpu boost on the 10. do you know how it is controlled? via pnpmngr or kernel?
would be great if we had a way to disable it without breaking pnpmngr.
thanks
with kind regards

hey hey, give flar2 some slack, i haven't even finished it properly, no settings in sysfs to switch it on/off, configure parameters like blink speed, length of dark period

Yeah well I meant for the future didn't want to pressure anyone/anything. I just like that Feature. It reminds me of the Desire HD and the one x.
