no kidding?
wow.. but it says will only work on unlock bootloader.. mine is locked..
i just want to make sure that it will brick my phone..
this will be an expensive paper weight if that happens..
I've had a locked BL and that CWM recovery installed.
Then I unlocked my BL, flashed a kernel and the recovery and the backups where still there.

If you want to use a custom ROM then 9 times out of 10 you'll need to use a specific kernel, usually one that comes with CWM.
I know exactly how to flash custom rom, I am coming from MT4G the problem after you flash the rom the phone dosn't boot in recovery it just stay at sony logo, even when i try to boot in fastboot mod dosn't allow me only booting in recovery.

Try this....
1. Flash ur stock ICS firmware 4.1.B.431 ... 2. Don't let it upgrade to the latest firmware (in Canada I got N update that changed my firmware to 4.1.**.587 or something like that)
3. Then flash ur phone with the rootable firmware of xperia generic world version...
4. Flash the kernels for that firmware .. even the stock ICS would be OK..
5. Root the phone using Doomlords method of rooting... Its the best...!
6. At last reboot ur phone ..n violaaa...
U have a completely rooted phone ..!
P.s. make sure u see the log while u root ur phone . It may say rooted successly even if it had some errors... so make sure other are no errors..!
I had the same problem when I decided to unlock boot loader n root it for the first time ... so no worries my friend ...try this .. n it will work for sure.. !

[Q] XTXperience 9 problem. don't bite my head off guys.

I am pretty new to flashing ROMS and rooting. I rooted my S2 back in 2011. but since then I haven't. So i though I would do it with the Xperia S.
I installed XTXperience 9, unlocked bootloader. rooted n fastboot. I downloaded cwm recovery. cleared everything. installed the ROM, and It has got stuck in boot loop.
I was on the 6.1.A.2.45 firmware if that helps?
could someone please give me some short instructions and tell me what I am doing wrong I need this ROM looks so cool!
Please don't bite my head off either. I need help. it's only way i'll learn
Please someone
If you have unlocked bootloader, why don't you install a custom kernel? Like Advanced ICS Kernel, ELiTE, etc.

Not sure how to do that yet. would that possibly fix the boot loop I am having??
I've never installed a recovery manually, because I've always flashed a custom kernel with a recovery included, maybe that's why you're having a boot loop but I'm not sure.
If you already unlocked the bootloader you should flash a stock based kernel and that's it.

If you already have you bootloader unlocked just flash a custom kernel! If you flash a ROM after that, it will be pre-rooted.

[Q] Trying to install Xperia Play Z final version, very confused. (r800a)

Hey guys, as the post title says, I'm trying to install the xperia play z rom, and I'm hitting a lot of road blocks. First one is, I don't even know if my phone's bootloader is unlocked! I'm pretty sure it is, because I thought all r800a's came with an unlocked bootloader, and I also used the flashtool, unlock bootloader tool, and it said it was already unlocked.
So, naturally what I do, is I flash the firmware in the guide (located here - http://www.android-hilfe.de/root-cu...a-play/417392-rom-xperia-play-z-v1-1-0-a.html), and after that I want to root it so I can install a recovery. But when I try to root it, it always fails on part 1. So I tried to install cyanogenmod recovery without it. But after the apk is installed, i'm not able to install the actual recovery because it is not rooted.
My main problem with the guide is that it says to just boot into clockworkmod recovery, but I don't know how to. I turn on the phone and press the up button, but without installing the CWM/X-parts recovery, there's no way I can expect it to come up.
Any help please? I'm totally lost here. I know how to get roms that are based on gingerbread, but for some reason, Ics/Jellybean roms don't work at all, and I don't know if it is whether because my phones bootloader isn't unlocked (even though it says it is), or it's something else, like me missing a tutorial specifically for ics/jellybean roms.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry, another question. What happens is that when I try to flash an ics kernel, it goes into an infinite bootloop, but when I flash a gingerbread kernel, it works fine. Is this a sign of a locked bootloader? Cause I thought you wouldn't be able to install any kernels if it was locked.

If you flash ics kernel, you won't be able to boot your old gb rom. Ics kernel only boot into ics rom.

For future readers -
a. The r800a indeed does come with bootloader unlocked
b. It is normal for the phone to bootloop, Just go into recovery like normal and install the rom .zip. (It's usually tapping back while starting the phone, but if that doesn't work, try up volume or down volume)

Guide for Safe installation of any custom rom on your stock rom mobile

Installation Steps (Warranty can be restored whenever you wish)
-------------------------
Before starting your rom flashing journey it is always better to have Flashtool (latest -by androxyde) installed in your PC and your stock rom handy ; incase of any mishappenings.
Type *#*#7378423#*#* in your phone and see if your bootloader status is unlockable under service-->Configuration. Procede with below steps, only if your device is unlockable.
It is important that you follow the steps in order
1) First step for installing a custom rom over a mobile with stock rom is to backup the existing state of bootloader .Usually warranty will get void if any modification is done to bootloader. The below tool ensures that it takes the backup of existing state of bootloader when device is under warranty.
Goto
Backup TA for Sony Xperia (This tool helps you to have a )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598.
Download the tool. This tool will backup your DRM Securtiy keys . Successful backup can only be taken after the existing stock rom is rooted (Use towelroot application if your device is not already rooted) .Root it first then follow the process given in above link .
Once this is over , u will have a backup of the existing state of bootloader/TA partition (If you later wish to move back to stock rom from custom rom use the same tool to restore the backup you have just created.This means you will get your Warranty back);
2) Goto this website , follow the steps and get your unlock code via e mail.
Use fastboot mode to unlock your bootloader (Make sure that you have already backuped your existing DRM keys-Step 1).Follow it fully to unlock your bootloader
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/unlock/step1
3)Download any custom rom zips with recovery, for your mobile from xda developers forum and have fun.Extract boot.img using winrar or winzip .
Flash boot.img via fastboot mode
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
4)As the device reboots, when you see your LED glow press volume up or down. It will take you to CWM Recovery or TWRP recovery based on the rom that you have downloaded.
5)Just install the custom rom(*.zip ) from within the recovery.
What if that i already have the custom recovery?
So, just wipe data, dalvik, and cache, then flash the zip?

Absolutely right. But before installing an custom rom in the first place i hope you have already backed up your DRM keys for warranty purpose(as mentioned in the guide) since if you unlock your bootloader without backing up your DRM keys, DRM keys might be lost forever .

Sure. Easiest way to do it is by using an app called, 'Titanium Backup Pro'.But you have to root your stock rom first for this application to run(Use towelroot if you are yet to root).Except for sony proprietary apps like walkman,Album, etc (will run only on stock rom as they use sony developed system libraries/API'S) other apps will get restored/run fine on a custom rom.

Do not try to install a custom ROM on your phone if it is not unlocked! Your phone will not boot.

Thanks to @ foomanjackel for answering your questions.Regarding your 2nd question, 'Experience is the mother of invention'.Why don't you try and see what happens...just kidding.Couldn't resist it. Practically speaking of you install a custom rom with an custom kernel on a locked bootloader you will hard brick it.It will not boot and chances are that you might not be able to goto flashmode or fastbootmode anymoreto repair it.Reason this happens is that both your recovery and bootloader resides in the same partition in your mobile. If you try to install custom kernel on a locked bootloader in every probability, it not only corrupts your existing stocks kernel but also might corrupt your recovery leaving u helpless.
Theoretically, You should be able to install any custom-stock based rom on a locked bootloader (which runs exactly on ur stock kernel). In other words a custom rom which doesn't come up with a custom kernel but based on your existing stock kernel should be able to run on a locked bootloader. But my advice is you do not risk it.
