I should totally get a keyboard macro for "closed source x86 programs are unportable/sideloadable"

there is the possibility to run Windows xp on the gnex?
with network support?
i mean, as a virtual machine, not and arm version of xp
No. Especially not virtual machine.
Sent from my Nexus in Texas.
awww man
why? is impossible to emulate an x86 on arm or something?
maybe win98 but not sure... at least it was possible for sgs2, kind of
With TeamViewer you can remote into a Windows desktop, but it must be running on a networked computer.

Use a laptop. Why would you even want to deal with this?

I realize that, but there is zero point to running windows on a phone. As an alternative, I suggested a remote desktop solution. Sorry you didn't like it.
Hi all,
I ended up downloading all the versions of the RT Jailbreak tool but still haven't succeeded to jailbreak windows RT on my Samsung Ativ Tab.
Any idea what could be the problem?
When I press volume down, it crashes and displays the blue screen with the REFERENCE_BY_POINTER error.
I installed all the updates, gave it about one to two minutes each time I ran it but still couldn't jailbreak.
I even restored the tab to factory settings but the jailbreak tool still fails.
Anyone who has done it on the ativ tab?

Jailbreak? Do you mean trying to get past the required purchase of Windows? That sort of thing is not allowed on this site.
What exactly is "jailbreak" for an RT?

No, it's not that at all.
It's a way to allow for running programs compiled for ARM that are not signed by Microsoft directly. Without a jailbreak, you can only run apps that have the Microsoft signing.
There's a big thread about the jailbreak, and then apps that have been recompiled but aren't signed by MS so they require the jailbreak to run.
RT Jailbreak Tool
Desktop Apps Ported to RT
OP should ask in the RT jailbreak thread.

I have a Samsung ATIV Tablet and AFAIK, all ATIV tabs run the Intel Clovertrail - that is an x86 machine - is the OP sure that he even has RT. ATIV comes with Windows 8

There are some that run RT. I think the Tab's are the ones that run RT, the ATIV Smart are the ones that run x86.

No.
Are you sure? I have seen people how has done it

You havent. Windows 8.1 is for x86 processors. Windows RT 8.1 is for ARM. 2 are completely incompatible.
Yeah, even if you had a jailbreak for 8.1, it's (blatantly obviously, to anybody who knows the first thing about CPU instructions sets) not possible. The closest you could come would be installing Win8.1 in an x86 emulator. This is technically possible - for example, you can run Linux in an x86 emulator (built using JavaScript, of all things); http://bellard.org/jslinux - but it's slow as hell and the tablets don't really have enough resources (RAM, etc.) to make it practical even if the speed was great enough to be useful. Oh, and there isn't any jailbreak for 8.1 released yet so far as I know anyhow.
I'm looking to find out if there's a way to set up slirp on Windows RT?
Having real issues installing wine on linux for samsung dex. Has anybody got any idea how this is done? Followed loads of videos and guides but have had no luck at all. Thanks.

It won't run Windows x86 applications though, if that's what you're thinking.

Because wine isn't an emulator (it literally stands for Wine is not an emulator). It won't emulate the required x86 instruction set.

Ok i get this, but i was led to believe it will run some windows programs.
So i guess the question is now this, is there an emulator for windows on linux?

Only if said windows software was built for ARM. You could use qemu to emulate Windows if you wanted to! Performance won't be amazing, but depending on what software you need, it might do the job :good:
Heh, your wish came true
Lookup hangover on GitHub, it's wine but it emulates x86 as well in Android, it's by the official wine team
This sounds promising, have you tried it out yourself?
