galaxy note 2:
hi there guys. I am a practising noob. I am facing the same problem. Tried different PCs and cables.
when i attempt to go into recovery, my screen goes grey with horizontal lines across. I am able to get into download but cannot go any further.
I had Omega Rom v22 which was 4.3 installed and one day it froze on the logo screen. i turned it off and put it back on. no luck. Kies keeps trying to connect but doesn't recognise it.
now on the downloading screen, im displaying,
ODIN MODE (in red)
PRODUCT NAME:
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
Also this phone was bought through ebay and the warranty has expired, on top of that, some how it was imported from UAE, but i was led to believe it was an UK product because i bought it from a UK seller. silly me lol.
Guys i want to thank you in advance with whatever help you can offer me. i have withdrawl symptoms without my phone.

Make sure usb debugging is selected in developer options. I had the same problem as you but once I selected usb debugging it worked.
Sorry but if is not writing the model of your phone at download mode 99,9% is sds (sudden death symptom).

[Q] Firmware upgrade encountered an issue.Select recovery mode in Kies & try againn
Hey guys i just got my Galaxy s 3 tonight and I came home and tried to root it.I was in Odin. I selected PDA, selected the tar file and tried to root. It started then said "fail." I tried to restart but I'm stuck at a screen saying "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies and try again." I am using a Rogers Galaxy S3 in Canada. All I'm seeing on my screen is "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies and try again." At the top left it says:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I747M

Just for giggles, plug your phone into Odin on that screen. If it recognizes it (blue com box lights up), use that screen as download mode. But, i would download your file again, making sure to get the one for the I747M.
Really?

If you can get your device back into download mode, you could relay the stock firmware from www.stockbroker.net. Select the file you downloaded under pda in Odin and flash it. Hope this helps. You can try to root again from there.

Upgraded to 4.1.1 even after soft-brick !
Soft-brick aka " firmware upgrade encountered an issue " - screen in galaxy s3 sgh-i747 is a warning bell that somehow device might get interrupted while updating firmware , now i tried twice with old odin , and twice with new odin , what you got to do is just keep on trying and make sure that your galaxy s3 SGH-i747 drives are installed then after restart your pc , tried kies already , just waste of times , wasted 2 hours yet that official software didnt help me to upgrade or recover my device !
Finally i executed Odin 3.7 ( run as admin ) then --> ticked box : auto reboot , F. reset time ! upload that Firmware upgrade of Jelly bean in PDA section and wait till it gets loaded then press start ! ( i had to do this 3 times n then it worked , so dont lose the hope , keep trying over and over again ) and it will take 6~7 minutes as new OS is big around 1 GB ! so dont unplug device and ur done , then after completion , cellphone will restart with new settings and new OS !

This is for the S3, flashing it's firmware on the Note 2 won't work. I highly suggest you go on the Note 2 section.

Download cwm-touch-i717-120414.tar.md5
Connect to Odin.
Once Odin Recognizes/connects to your phone.
Download Clockwork: (Download cwm-touch-i717-120414.tar.md5)
Choose PDA and browse to the file and click Start on Odin.
Your Phone should now Reboot correctly.
Make sure you download the correct "new MOD" for your phone.

Ainol novo 8 discover flashing firmware error
Sir i have ainol novo 8 discover it has a problem that when i install firmware files on my discover with firmware tool there have a problem is data.img file cant install on my tblet software shows WRITE DATA PARTITION FAILED..and u can see screen shot also plzzzz help me what i do.plzz thanks in advance.
I tried to update my Samsung Galaxy Note II to 4.1.2 but I encountered an error on odin and now its stuck with the a message of " Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
However Kies is not recognizing the phone when i plug it to the usb cable. but when i try odin it says its added. I cant get it to download mode.:crying:
How do I get this fixed?
I need your help badly...
what exactly you getting while rebooting to download mode?
If you getting msg to use recovery mode while rebooting to download mode, then this is also download mode, flash using odin
The same thing happened for me. It won't update no matter what you do. I tried reinstall kies and drivers but no luck.
And the strange part is if you like I did wait a couple of days the update won't be available anymore. It will start saying that you already have the latest firmware. I read somewhere that it was maybe caused because samsung found a bug in the firmware and then they quickly rool it back

Any help on the above post would be greatly appreciated.
I believe my issue is that I tried rooting it but had the "new" firmware on the device so the root process didn't work. Now, from what I can tell, the boot.img is fubar'd.
I can't charge the phone when it's off. Goes straight to the firmware upgrade failed screen. I try to ODIN factory image and it fails on write of boot.img.
Had the device a whole 2 hrs before it became a paper weight.:crying:
Can you go into download mode?

Happened to me once as well,i accidently lost the USB connection from the PC and all i did was go into the KIES thing and then click on emergency firmware recovery. It worked well for me but in your case you might consider going into download mode(vol down + home + power button) and then flashing a new stock firmware from samfirmware via ODIN
My GN2 stopped booting today and all night i have tried to fix it....
Download mode works but stock recovery does not
Kies does not recognise phone
Odin wont flash because "there is no PIT partition"
the only pit for n7105 i can find doesnt work (is it region specific?)
any advice is greatly appreciated
It may be sds
What exactly you can read on rt upper side while on download mode?
Does it was spontaneous? Means device was working fine and suddenly rebooted and never boot after it.
Any red light glowing which you charge device?
What rom you had installed on device

Cant send back under repair as I live in Australia and phone is from Hong Kong
(is Samsung warranty international???)
Thank you for your reply - I think I have a brick now.
It seems sds only
I am editing this msg with pit, try once, but if flashing pit also give same error then there is no way but have to send to serving centre.

thank you for your help....i'm afraid that i have a complete brick on my hands!
at least i will have learnt not to purchase a phone from overseas - after my n7100 had broken gyro's and now my n7105 has had this booting problem - i am thinking i may well be technologically cursed! I love gadgets but they dont love me!
You may not aware of this issue, 4.1.1 have brick bug Sds sudden death syndrome and device gets brick without any trigger. It needs mother board replacement. If you are are not having device under warranty, it may cost you 200$ or more depends on service station on your area.
So whenever you got service back just check firmware it's running and move to latest 4.1.2 released in 2013.

I was running nightly CM 10.1 on n7105 and after i rebooted the phone this morning (my camera had stopped working), i went into download mode in a loop, odin showed no pit error.
Thanks to Dr Ketan's PIT file i was able to restore though not sure as to why it got broke in the first place (any idea?)
Its not SDS because only n7100 brands of galaxy note 2 has that problem.
to check if you have sds just go to google play and download the "eMMc Check"
run it and.
if it says there that
Type: VTU00M
FwRev: 0xf1
then your phone is affected by the bug.
but I doubt you'd be affected cause you have the n7105 version. not the n7100. though you can try

As long as it can enter recovery mode and can be recognized, do a STOCK ROM FLASH (USE THE CLEAN METHOD OF FLASHING). Now attempt to do that flash again..

Aw, im using smt311, but flashing with odinnis the simole way,, did yiu finish it?
same thing happened to my t217s when Samsung didn't do anything for a legit issue with my tablet during an OTA update and stated that it was rooted (it has been stock since out of the box). after many attempts (didn't have another computer available) i switched to a different usb port and got it flashed just fine.
hi can i ask something it happened i flash samsung j1 then suddenly in 90percent was cut and i cant go back to download mode. and the phone turn black and cant connect to pc. Can Please can you help me?
I had a similar situation with a Galaxy SM-T113 here in Canada. I was hammering away at it for about 4 days with no luck. All i got was the "use Kies" to fix it message. Kies would not detect my phone though. Anyway what i did that worked was in part already tried earlier.. I already tried for example using a different cable and a different port. And i always got a failure with Odin and attempting the stock firmware flash.
So what did i do ?
I unplugged my Gamepad i keep plugged in 24/7 thinking maybe i had too many USB devices hogging USB port bandwidth.. maybe that was it I don't know.. I also uninstalled Kies but this time i said yes to installing the unified driver it asks you about. I also changed to yet another USB port.
It was working fine before hand.
I was trying to flash the firmware simply to reset the thing like i have done on countless other devices over the years.
I am not new to this sort of thing and was rather surprised to see Odin fail.
So who knows maybe my post here will help others.
I feel relieved i did not brick a perfectly good device. LOL
Hello
After trying to root myS4 mini it got stuck in odin mode. No big deal, flash the stock rom and it works again but it's not.
It keeps booting up in odin download mode and with flashing with odin i constant get the error (auth :fail)
How can i solve this problem?
I use odin 3.09, the right stock rom from sammobile and updated and tried different cables and usb ports (and even computers!)
The phone won't boot up normally anymore.. thanks in advance! - Allejandro

probably you are trying to flash rom with old bootloader when you have a newer one
should say
Sv rev. check fail: fused : 2, Binary : 1
on phone, means you have rev 2 bootloader on phone but are trying to flash older rev 1
But how can I solve this problem?
