Are there any forum rules for signatures, i.e. covering size, animation, content? I couldn't see any listed in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726334 but I know other forums that have such rules.
The content should be in accordance to the forum rules. There's no hard limit for the size, but if it's too large it'll be removed. A sensible limit is 300-400px in height. Animations are fine as long as they're not too distracting or epilepsy inducing.
So basically it's fine as long as it doesn't distract from the main thread.

Fastest way is to report one of the members posts then just say the Sig size is the reason for the report.

Thanks for this. I think it would be good to explicitly state some rules for signatures in http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?a=81 so that there's no argument.
Also, it would be great if it was possible to hide signatures from particular users. I know we can hide all signatures, and I know we can ignore individual users, but I'm asking for the ability to hide signatures from just some users, while still seeing the rest of their post. Bonus points if this could be further finessed into a choice between "Hide this particular signature from this user" (which would cause the signature to be unhidden if the user edited it) and "Hide all future signatures from this user".

Your signature looks fine to me
I am not even able to post a signature. Says I don't have access.

vBulletins Signature Cache is still buggy. Once you edit your signature, all of your NEW posts will have your signature in them.
All of your prior posts... you will have to "Advanced Edit" and check the "Show my Signature" checkbox.

there are certain limitations on junior member accounts to reduce the amount of spam in the forum
though I'm not familiar with any details posting urls is one of them and I would wager creating a sig is another
after a certain amount of posts that problem should resolve itself
cheers

Looks like I have some work to get to, hehe.
Yes, certain limitations are set in place against new users to combat spammers, including not being able to post urls or have a signature. I believe this restriction was removed once you reached 10 posts, so I would check this again and let me know if you still have restrictions in place
Im good now.
Excellent, glad to hear
Well,i see on the end of the page, the members who are online at that particular moment...cant we make it forum specific???i mean this would help members to see who is online in their respective forum and thus,if there are questions,we can PM that without wasting much of a time...this would also help the forums be more friendly and helpful....the Members Online tool is a good idea, but it doesnt really reveal as to which forum the member belongs to...also,hunting for a green spot along side the names in the threads becomes tedious and time consuming...
I'm guessing it would add a performance overhead to the page load times. Not many people visit the index.
It's up to the admins whether or not this get's changed though.

Well it could always be made an option that is disabled by default. That way only users who really would like the ability would see it (it could be coded in such a way that there would be no wasted resources used if disabled). Personally I would like to see this and some donation-users only features. I think it would be a great way to add services while covering overhead prices.
$Not many people visit the index.$
when you mark all forums as read your go to index..
please hide this featuare.. ..online user.. for my an normal user is unusable.

I was just thinking of a sort of buzzer (with a chat option) to get someone attention, for now if you have a conversation with another member you always have to refresh your page to see if you have an pm.

yeah, but still a enable/disable option for forum online members is also a good idea!!!
This is a quote from another post i made in another thread. The reason i decided to make this into a thread is because i honestly dont think a lot of people read a very old thread for requests. Please reply with a real opinion.

The admins say this is our forum, why not give us some control? Not mod permissions or admin permissions but our own 'personal' permissions. There's a vb mod called the "Comprehensive Ignore System" it can do these things for users :
users can ignore entire threads. These threads will then not show up in searches, forumdisplay, and "new posts".
if a user puts someone on their ignored list, they stay ignored, meaning their threads will not show up in forum displays, searches, or "new posts".
Users can ignore threads with certain tags.
Users can select to ignore an entire forum, so that they no longer see it, nor do search results that are located in those forums show to the user.
Complete user group control for each of these features.
Admin can also clear a users ignores when editing a user.
Users can review and remove ignores from their UserCP.

This can give us power over our forum without giving us the power to control others, but control what we see.
Link: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=181626
There's also an addon to the above mod called "Users on ignore list cannot reply to thread" and it can do this:
If a user is on the thread starters ignore list, that user cannot reply to the thread, or quickreply. This of course is bypassed by moderators and admins.

This will allow developers to ignore other people they see as incompetent and not helpful to the cause in the thread but those uses on the list can still view it.

All of us are XS users, since we're posting at an XS sub-forum, what's the point of showing it off with a banner? The pages are now completely cluttered, take more time to load and makes every page a mess. Picture signatures should be banned. Or at least be made at reasonable sizes.
Now I gotta disable signature showing to make the forums look clean, which in turn removes useful signatures like FXP, who has download links in his signature.
Please people, be reasonable. We all know you're an Xperia user since you're posting here, no need to show it off with a huge picture on every post.
This happens everywhere..not just here.
I would like to suggest people to use

I know, but it wasn't the case in this subforum before. But lately it's been picking up insanely fast.
I noticed this too, and wrote a letter to moderators. No answer since them. So Adblock is my new banner eraser
Isn't there an option in user CP to "hide signatures"?
EDIT
Yep!
Edit Options>>Visible options, uncheck signatures.
EDIT
Sorry just reread your first post, so this isn't helpful
I have to go with Ortega1, just use Adblock if the mods won't stop those ginormous sigs.

YES!
I love the content on XDA Forums, but... there's more signature than content in most threads.
IMHO.
No Signature, No Smilies, No Icon.
You can choose to disable signatures in your forum settings.
Nay, no signs limits everything to almost plain text. Maybe some kind of regulamentation on the length of it....

We already have a 1,250-character limit on signatures, which is perfectly fine in my honest opinion.
Not limited to the number of chars, or at least not only.
Limit of rows it can be, or pixels for images. What if i write my own 1250chars signature on 347 rows?
