The USB wire the comes in the box was way too small for my liking, so i needed a longer wire, and I figured I might as well buy another wall outlet for travel or just for the heck of it. And I could not find a decent wire for under $5, until I came across this.
$2.28 - High-Speed WALL Power to USB Female Converter (1000mA) - White: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10311&cs_id=1031106&p_id=6784&seq=1&format=2
$1.40 - 6ft USB 2.0 A Male to Micro 5pin Male 28/24AWG Cable w/ Ferrite Core (Gold Plated): http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=5458&seq=1&format=2
They are out stock on the Black Wall USB plug.
The only downside was the S+H, it was $6.60. So I ordered 4 wires, and 2 plugs ($9.74). Total came to $16.34, which is not bad as I could not find anything even close on Amazon.
The combination work perfect. I have attached some pictures below. (Note: All pictures were taking with SGSII, EXCEPT the picture with the SGSII in it, that was taken with a Nexus 4G.)
Just wanted to let everyone know in case someone also wanted to buy one of these.
lucky for me i dont have to pay s&h with monoprice, they're awesome regardless though. I live 5 minutes away from their dist. center so i can just pick up
Funny thing, the 10' cable is cheaper than the 6' in OP.
Also, this phone comes with the exact charger that my Droid Charge came with, but the DC came with a much longer cable.
I've got about 5 of those same wall chargers (in black). Be careful unplugging them, as 3 of mine have all left one of the prongs in the WALL SOCKET when I unplugged them. I notified Monoprice customer service, and they're sending me replacements, but they'll be of the same design.
I hope they change the design soon, because right now both of the prongs are just held on by a piece of solder. One too many tugs and they come right out. So once you plug it in, leave it!
Thanks, I just ordered one of the 6ft cables
Awesome! Exactly what I was looking for. Got 3 cables, 1 wall charger and 1 car charger.

Well considering the stock charger is also a 1000mAH... it won't be any faster.
yeah didnt think to check for myself. to much sleep depprevation.
Sorry if this is a noob question, Im coming from a blackberry so Im a bit retarded in this subject.
Are monoprice good quality cables? The supplied cable with the epic touch is just.. ridiculously short. The block.. charger.. thing is fine, I just want a longer cable! I found some longer OEM chargers as well that I was thinking of getting off Amazon.
IE:

Either way its no big deal, just dont want to end up frying my phone because I cheaped out on cables lol.
also, for anyone looking for a car charger, ive read great things about:
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Vehi...Q9CA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317080917&sr=8-1
i plan on getting that myself, waiting to hear some feedback on the monoprice cables first though, otherwise ill go with the samsung oem charger i posted above
YESS, those chargers are amazing... i purchased 10 last year, when they were like $1 each... dey are so amazing, i onli broke 2 so far, n that was my fault.... dey charge the phones super fast, n love the blue light....

I bought this one since it is an official Samsung charger, for cheap ($5):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001UB279A
But I bought it using the link shown below - the "buy all items" showing the Samsung car charger, Samsung regular charger + USB cable, and Samsung extra USB cable for $10 total.
Bear in mind - the USB cables are all the shortie length cables.
The car charger seems nice, has a spiral cord of decent length - same as my old Motorola charger.

What's the difference between the Gold plated and the non Gold plated?

the description of the gold plated one says:
- Gold Plated Connectors for corrosion resistence ensuring consistant and reliable conductivity
- Ferrite Core to filter out signal noise and reduce transmission errors

Since I have not seen anyone answer your question, yes, monoPrice is an excellent site for great and cheap cables. Highly recommend them. Also, since you are coming from a BB, that is the brand of home/office charger that I always use... The foldable blade BB micro USB chargers that put out 5V worked perfectly on my Evo 4G and current Evo 3D... Looking to use that for my Epic 4GT when I get that in a couple days

I got one of those $2.28 wall blocks for my girlfriend's 2nd gen ipod touch. She was delighted because ipods don't come with wall chargers. At least the 2nd gen didn't. Apple trying to be "green" and crap.
Is there any risk using these non-Samsung chargers. Yes, they also put out 1000mA, but do they auto-shut off once the charging is complete, etc?
just a heads up the wall/usb charger plug has been discontinued
anyone know of another 1000mA option?

No risk using non-Samsung as long as you get one from a reputable brand or company. After all, the included chargers are usually POS and still get the job done. No offense, but the charger in the OP looks to be very cheaply-made. And I have to wonder if the components inside reflect that. If you invest in a higher quality charger now you will still be using it 3-4 phones later, if not longer, and they will pay for themselves. Same goes for cables.
Monoprice is awesome. When working in the A/V field I lost count how many hundreds of their cables and adapters I used. Several levels of quality usually available, at great pricepoints.
I've been using a Rosewill 4-port wall charger for a few years and it's been problem-free. Puts out 2 amps.

I saw this Belkin charger and says 5V and 1A charging capacity. I read that S3 maximum charging is 1A , so will this charger work ? or does 5V is not enough ? or go for 2A ?
Also does USB cable matter in charging ?
the usb cable makes all the difference.. ive used cheap ebay cables and they dont charge quite as good as oem or the mediabridge hi-speed i have.

I have just bought a couple of these cables:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00FAAHT0E/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and one of these chargers:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00D82O68Y/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
as my Belkin 1A wasn't really as adequate as it could have been.
The cables may be a bit over-kill (and a tad pricey, but I took up the 30 day free Amazon Prime trial so got free next day delivery), but as a combo they work admirably and can cope with charging my S3 and my Nexus 7 (which needs 2A) simultaneously.
Can you guys suggest a brand which is available all over world.. both listed items are not available in india. And Cant spend so much too
USB is digital (except for power). Anything a bit pricier than the cheapest cable will do.
Get a cable like this, with a charger that provides 2.1a out of a single port. If you're on a custom kernel that allows you to change incoming amperage, you don't need the dedicated cable.

Where do people get the idea that a USB cable is gonna make a difference for charging your phone??
I've used ebay, dollar store type cables my whole life and have never had a problem other than cheap build quality where the cable doesn't last very long. It still passed the same power or signal as any well known and overpriced branded cable.
I assume these people are the same suckers who buy $100 Monster HDMI cables that work the same as $10 ebay or monoprice stuff.
Be careful with those "mini" car chargers. The cheap price is daunting, but I bought a package that came with 2 with retractable USB cords for only 5 US dollars.
The adapter would not stay firmly in the car and pull out whenever I tried to extend the cord to plug in my phone, and my phone's battery decreased while plugged in...
While this could've been a car issue, I'd just use caution. Instead I purchased a regular sized one with a retractable USB built in for only 8 dollars, I'll link you if you're interested. Good luck!

I put this in general accessories, but I figured I would share this here too. Monoprice.com has a $10 off $30 coupon when you enter TAXACT217. I believe it's for new accounts only, but give it a shot anyway if you're a regular.

I've heard good things here at xda and elsewhere about the Premium cables as they allow your device to fully draw as much as it can with higher amp output chargers/adapters. I have a couple of good micro USB cables that work really well for both charge/data, and some crappy ones where despite having good 2A adapters, only pull 500mA on a good day, when the stars and moon align, and rainbows can be seen at night... This way I can make sure my Nexus 5 and my Qi chargers are utilizing the most they can.
10 Cables and the car charger came to $27.75 shipped to Polar Bear land with small package Canada post shipping.
*Edit: Updated with new discount code.
Do you know of any other long USB cables that are good? For me to get monoprice to ship one cable is $39 shipping
Thanks
Samsung ECB-DU4EWE is decent 5ft (151cm) cable. I get around 1650mA (Nexus 5 maximum allowed amperage) using it with 2A charger. Unfortunately the cheapest I found was here http://www.ebay.com/itm/321231245646 (you need to pick the option 'extra long 5 ft cable only'). It's around $8 with free shipping, so nowhere near the monoprice premium cable price range, but still it was the cheapest option for me (I'm living in Europe).
How do you measure the current draw? The apps from the play store seem inconsistent.

A few years ago I bought a couple of blackberry OEM cables on Amazon, and ever since, those have been my favorite ones because they are really nice high quality cables. Recently, I was looking to buy some more, and I bought a pack of 5 for $10 from the ebay listing below. I can vouch that they are the same genuine blackberry cables I've received in the past.

Yes, I would look for genuine OEM cables from a name brand. However, with ebay or other sites that have 3rd party sellers, they will often say OEM when in fact they are knock offs. It is more common with chargers than cables. I felt comfortable with that ebay listing because it looked like an actual picture of the product and not a stock image. Also, I already owned a couple, so I knew what they looked like with the blackberry logo on the end.
USB cables plays a big part. out of my 10 USB cables that i own only 2 can manage to transfer 1A.

Yeah I purchased initially because I wanted a flat cable. These really are tangle free and they are tough as nails. I bunch them up, roll them up, tug/pull etc and have yet to have one fall apart or crap out functionally.
Biggest problem I have with it is my coworkers stealing it from my desk!

sorry, I do not know how to test that...?
I am using it with these chargers:
Anker® 18W/3.6A Dual-Port USB Wall Charger / Portable Travel Charge... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B8L36A6/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_SVf1sb1DQ2N3K

It definitely charges substantially faster than the OEM wall charger for my Nexus 5. That may be the charger or cable or both.
Would be happy to test the mA charge rate but I assume I would need an ammeter which I do not have.

If you could test that would be great! I just ordered a bunch of high quality full speed micro USB cables from monoprice that I linked above, but I wouldn't mind having some more that were a little more fun and colorful. It's always nice to change things up every now and again.
You don't need a multimeter or anything.
Just get CurrentWidget off of the play store (it's free) and add a widget to your homescreen. Set the update interval to 1 second, and watch for the highest number to repeat multiple times (it will always fluctuate up and down, but the highest number will keep popping up) that's your max. It may take a few minutes to get to the top speed, but you'll know when the same number range keeps showing.
It's probably not 100% accurate, but it gives a good ballpark number. The stock LG charger/cable charges at ~1050mA. If the flat cables allow full speed charging, you should be able to match that.

Installed CurrentWidget and ran the tests - very sad to see these fosmon cables that I love so much are limiting my rate of charge.
I tested the Anker wall charger with both the 3ft and 6ft fosmon cables at work and got a max value of 480mA. At home I got a max value of 518mA
I tested the Anker car charger with both cables and was floating around 350mA
When I got home I compared (using the same outlet) the Anker wall charger versus a Blackberry Charger I have (which is the fastest charger I own) and found a distinct difference. As stated before the Anker wall charger with both lengths of fosmon cable maxed at 518mA. The blackberry charger maxed at 1589mA.
FWIW, here is the blackberry charger I used (no, the cable is not detachable from the wall adapter)

Sorry to hear about the cables, I was going to grab a few if your results were different. And sorry about making you sad bud... I guess you can see that it's not just a high amp adapter/charger that is important, but the USB cable has to support high charge rate as well.
Your Anker wall/car chargers are very good though, if you used different cables (or even the stock Nexus 5 cable), the charge rate would be faster.
I've heard of the Blackberry charger being very good, but to get it in Canada (amazon.com won't ship it here) I have to use amazon.ca and they charge $20+ for it... Which is so stupid considering Blackberry is a Canadian company located in Ontario... You'd think it'd be a bit cheaper in the motherland.
But it's not really necessary for me anyway, I'm making an attempt to have all of my chargers as Qi chargers. I have plenty of 2A adapters, I just wanted really good USB cables to make sure my Qi chargers are getting fully juiced so they can provide the full 1A output.

No worries - if anything I thank you for showing me how to test it. I had read a review on these fosmon cables saying they were fast current but never went so far as to test (because I thought I needed an ammeter to do it).
These cables still have their use, but I will be snagging a few of those ones linked on monoprice for my bedside, work and car chargers.
I am going to look more at fosmon too (maybe reach out with an email) and see if they offer or plan to offer a flat micro USB with more amperage.
Side note: which Qi charger are you using? Specifically using well with those cables from monoprice.

Ordered a bunch. There are even cheaper that Amazon.com
Since i got s9 and it being my first usb c device, i am in a need for a few more usb cables. Looking on net for i found there have been some issues with usb a to c cables damaging chargers and usb ports. But in my understanding the problem is when the device thinks the charger can provide 3 amps of power, when in reality it can't. Since the s9 uses qc 2.0 and uses just the 5V 2A/ 9V 2A, meaning the max it will pull is 2 amps, will the cables from ebay (like ugreen) be good enough, because i don't really feel like paying 20€ per cable. I only intend to use the cable to charge my phone from a qc 2.0 tronsmart 18w wall charger, that i have used on a few phones now over a few years and it has been great. I am a bit concerned since i don't want to damage my devices and since i still don't fully understand the matter, even though i have spent a few hours researching.
You pay around 700-800 $ on a great phone but you want to use a cheap cable that can damage your phone? It doesn't make sense at all!
Look for anker cables. They are aprox 10-12$ and they are one of the best cables at the moment.
The problem is because i live in Croatia, with the shipping from amazon, the price comes up to ~50 USD.

I've been using these adapters without issue. You get 4 for $9

Once again, i would have to pay extra 35.05$ shipping and import fees.

I posted the adapters as a way to "make" 4 USB C cables for less than the price of 1 new USB C cable, by using cables you probably already have. I sure Ebay has the adapters if you're trying to avoid Amazon.
