I just installed the Google Edition rom on my new s4 and data is having a lot of problems I know calls don't work on LTE but instead of switching to 3g data goes off completely and then does not go back on for a long time... And I have to toggle the data on and off many times till it works again... This might be a problem on all aosp ROMs since this is the first one I tried on the s4 I came from an s3

I'm on a 4.4.2 GE rom for my i337, and I have the same issues as you op. The signal acts like there is no network and I have to reboot the phone to get it to work.
I just keep it in 2g/3g option since it seems more stable.

I disagree here. I had an HTC thunderbolt before the S4 and it took them forever to get 4.0 eventhough every similar phone already had it on other carriers.
With all the custom ROMs out, really? A *lack* of an update is reason to switch carriers?
Obviously, I'm not putting enough weight on my ROM when picking a carrier.

Just picked up GS4 from a corp store, and immediately noticed the call quality not being on par with other HD Voice devices like GS3, HTC One, iPhone 5. Called my gf who has iPhone 5 dialed into the ServiceMode while on call and Voila... only AMR 12.2 kbit/s which is narrowband AMR-NB at Full Rate.
Is there a way to enable HD Voice without rooting or it's inevitable?
thanks!

If you're considering GPe GS4, you're better off getting T-Mobile's variant since they share the same FCC ID for $579 and flash the ROM. Plus you can get it in Black
For some reason it sounds like some calls are extremely clear (HD), this seems to be the case only when both parties have 4g LTE (t-mobile). Not sure if this setting is variable or not depending on reception.

AMR-WB is active only when both parties are within the T-Mobile's Network, and both parties' phones are AMR-WB capable.
Interesting to note that mine had previously been off, but I too flashed a new ROM (Alpha 6.0) then went back to stock ROM, and voila, it's listed as on. I will try and make a test call and report back if it works.
EDIT: I does in fact work now calling my coworker with T-Mobile on his Note 2.

This HERE^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ is the QUESTION!!! Because I'm use TMO GN2 on AT&T and I get LTE no problem. And keep in mind I didn't perform any hacks to get it to work. Just flashed a at Rom, unlocked it that's it. Works like a champ with the att SIM.
One thing I will note that the AT&T Rom, changes the TMO model#. To the AT&T model# I317. Not a big deal, but might possibly why!

For the record, do NOT flash an att rom on a T-Mobile note 2. You will brick it. Flash the latest t mobile modem and you'll be good

You can flash either the AT & T or T-Mobile ROMS on your Note2, just make sure not to install AT & T Note 2 modem on your T-Mobile phone.
If you flash the latest Modem/Radio from T-Mobile section , you should be able to get LTE working.

But for your info, yes you can flash a AT&T Rom on your T-Mobile GN2.
Just as the last poster stated!!
Because most Rom's DO NOT include the modem bin... so that's why there cross flashable FYI..
As you can see in the screen shot I'm running Skynote on a TMO GN2 with, ABSOLUTELY no problems!!
There practically the same device. With a different modem for the carriers!

I constantly have to toggle airplane mode on and off for my data to work. When I'm using my phone all of a sudden my data will cut off and the only way to get it back on is if I reboot the phone or if I toggle airplane mode. I think I read that the issue is from android 4.4.2?? I'm currently using W03 Slim v17. I had these issues on Darthstalker v6 which was android 4.3.
Anyone else experiencing the same data drop out issues as I am? Anyone found a fix?

You are dealing with an issue familiar with the Note 3 on JB. You, if you so choose to decide need to update to kitkat bootloader, and run a rom made for kit kat. Running older (jellybean) roms on your phone, you will get this problem.
We also experienced, this problem with the original KIt Kat update, but found out it was a problem more with the phone then with roms. Updating software has seemed to fixed this for alot of users.
Hope this helps.
Looks like my data issues are over. I updated my phone to KitKat using Jovy's guide and haven't experienced a data drop out. I would recommend everyone who has data issues to upgrade immediately. Thanks for all the replies.

Ok, I spoke too soon. I'm still experiencing data drop out. This time though, after a while the data will connect by itself without me having to toggle airplane mode on and off. And by a while its like a minute or too. I didn't time it.

I've been having the same problem as you and others for quite sometime now with data drops and it showing 4g lte but nothing loading. Im on 4.3 MI7 though, did a lil research and someone said to add a new apn and change it to IPv4 instead of IPv6 and it should help. Made the change and I havent had a single data drop yet in 2 days and I usally already have like 5 and having to toggle data and airplane mode to get it back. Might be too early to know for sure but it wouldnt wouldn't hurt to try and see. You need to turn off your data, go to more networks, mobile networks, access point names and create a new apn then save it and select it. Add only whats checked marked in red. Hope this helps...

Just want to point out in case anybody isn't aware that WiFi calling won't work on these (and I'm not sure if VoLTE does either). If those features aren't important to you, I say flash away. International ROMs are where the real development is going to be and we're super fortunate that they work great on our devices with the unified kernels.

I think it's actually the other way around. I've "enabled" VoLTE on Xtrestolite, but the thing is that I don't really know how I could go about testing that calls are actually going over VoLTE. WiFi calling, on the other hand, is very specific to T-Mobile, so I don't know if it would even be possible to get working with an international ROM. If I ever get time, I'd like to figure out how to do basically the same thing as Xtrestolite deomod with our stock ROM or at least get a nice deodexed base that others could work off of.
