Multiple users hearing each other's notifications - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I am hearing all of my wife's notifications when I am on my user account. If I send her a message through Facebook, I hear the notification of it arriving. Am I supposed to hear her notifications even when I switched users?

I'm fairly new to the N7 scenes, it was a Christmas present, and I had noticed this also. I'm not sure if its supposed to work this way or not.

It's frustrating. Google support responded, sounded surprised, and didn't have any answers for me besides turning sounds/notifications off. I was hoping the background user would go into standby, silently.

You should consider moving her Nexus 7 further away from you when you are hitting her up on Facebook.

We're using the same single Nexus 7. Multiple users. I hear her notifications when I am using it with my account logged in.

Recording app

Trying to find a good screen recording app for the Nexus 7. Screencast seems to have been abandoned by the developer who doesn't respond to any emails or reply to posts in the app thread on AC Forums. Any suggestions?

Android Device Manager Website Live

As of today the track*ing web*site has gone live. This isn’t the com*plete setup just yet, but for now you can track, ring and erase a lost device from the web

Mine connected instantly, located and rang my phone just fine. My brother has a S3 and he is also having problems, he has multiple devices showing up (which he has).
Even though I hadn't at the time, you could try activating Android Device Manager in Device Administrator by checking the tick box it and trying again. I was using Chrome (which also did the work on my brothers S3 lol)

'no active devices' error for me
If you're having trouble tracking, try signing out of your online Google account. Go back to Android Device Manager then sign in again. Works for me

That's pretty cool.
Very handy if you don't have Cerberus installed - wonder how long til they introduce Cerberus' other features (taking pictures of / filming the schmuck that stole your android etc)

[APP Q] SMS via tethering from wifi Nexus

I think the subject says it all.
For example, if I tether my Nexus 7 wifi to my Galaxy S3 to get cellular data, is there an app that I can then text from my Nexus to send texts over the cellular network?
Think I have found what I am looking for with Mighty Text from the Play store.
Many people have been using that, though if you use google voice paired with your phone number, you can send texts via wifi. Though voice doesn't support mms.
Mighty text works great. It even shows the battery level of the phone.

Desksms and tabletsms, its a $5 yearly subscription but it works really well. You need desksms on the phone and tabletsms on the nexus 7

I use might text on my tablet. I have the wifi tablet but texts will still transfer when my phone is on 2g 3g or 4g. Even tells you phone battery and who is calling your phone

If you use Verizon like I do they have their own application that allows you to do that

@DrakeSlayer: its just for SMS texting...If you want something that can control whatsapp, look on apps like airdroid.

App to link phone?

Hi guys,
I have the wifi only version of N7 and I use it a lot while at home. The only problem is that I have to keep reaching back to my phone to reply to SMS or whatsapp. Do you guys know of some app through which I can link my phone so that I can send messages through my tablet itself and not have to reach to the phone? Something like Airdroid maybe? Or Snappea? I can still use these apps through the browser but can you guys suggest some better way or app?

I use mighty text. Works great

There's DeskSMS and TabletSMS.
You need to have DeskSMS working on your phone, then TabletSMS will work. You can also install a browser extension so you can reply to SMS via computer as well. DeskSMS costs money, not sure how much exactly, as it's been awhile since I bought it.
Hangouts would be an easier "fix"

Thanks guys. Google Voice isn't available in India yet. I'll try TabletSMS.
So the sms issue is solved. Can we access WhatsApp somehow on a wifi only tab? You guys know of a way?

Tablet talk is what you need. It sends SMS and notifications to your tab. You can reply back and stuff. I haven't used it but I heard it works great.

SMS APP ??

Are their any apps that send text messages with the Nexus 7 (2013) model? Not rooted. Not having any luck. My hangouts app doesn't seem to be working either. Any help will be welcomed.
Thank You, Vinny

I see you use Verizon. They have a free app that uses your cell number over WiFi. Works ok for me.
Have you considered Tablet Talk? I currently use it and think it works great.

I've used TT also and found it worked well too. It actually syncs the messages better then the Verizon app because it goes in and out of the phone instead of the N7 via Wi-Fi. I don't remember if there were more features with the paid version but it worked so well I kicked the dev for coins.
