I'm on 4.4 (CM-REMIX-Burst-Kernel-KANG) and looking to get rid of the google search bar on the home screen.
I appreciate the only way to do this is to get another Launcher. Is there a lightweight launcher that would remove the google search bar?
Thanks
Try holo launcher

Just curious what launchers most people prefer and use most for their S3...and why.
I've been an Apex guy myself for a while now and think its best for my needs. Doesn't do everything I want in a launcher but damn close. I've tried em all and used to use either Go Launcher and Launcher Pro...and then Zeam for a while and Holo too but always have come back to Apex.
For me, things I really prefer are:
Homescreens (the more the merrier)
Docks (also the more the merrier AND the ability to have up to 7+ icons in each)
Changing homescreen grid size (to get more icons per inch ie. 7x5 as opposed to standard 4x4 or 4x5)
Resizing and scrollable widgets
App drawer tabs and customizability
These are a few things I look for that Apex seems to provide. Like I said its not perfect but close. I'm still wiling to try others if I haven't already and I'm curious what others use and the main reasons why.
Let us know if you will.

Nova for me. I found it easier to setup to my liking and can't think of anything its missing compared to apex.... For my use anyway. It's quick as well. No complaints. I'm just using the free version at the moment bc I've been testing, but will be updating to prime soon.
stock touchwiz, love the look of it
the only thing its missing is a better way to create folders, a nicer folder icon, and the jb feature where homescreen will auto rearrange itself to fit the widget you're placing. hopefully this will all come with the jb updat.e..
TSF shell.

GO Launcher of course. Fast and many features. You have to pay for the premium version of other launchers to get some of its features

I use nova. It seems a tad smoother to me than apex. If not nova then I'll run touchwiz sometimes.

Its not a resource hog for me... my phone performs just as quickly as the week i had apex and nova to try - yet I have more features with it.
same on my old phone that only had 1gb ram.
It simply performs the best.

Nova prime. Smoother and faster than Apex. Just wish I could disable vibration on the button

I use Apex launcher, namely because I Paid for the pro version. Its been pretty quick, and if on install its slow I reinstall it and its fast again(this is on initial install). It never slows down afterwards.
I tried ADW, Go, Nova(very fast but heard it was a memory hog?). I would keep Nova but don't feel like paying for another launcher.

Ok I have been searching everywhere (probably just overlooked it) but I really want to know if there is anyway to get a ICS themed search bar in Jelly Bean. I have an all black background and the Jelly Bean search bar looks horrible (filled in grey). The ICS search bar was very clean with just boarders, it was perfect. I don't want a custom launcher, my ROM is set up perfect for my liking just want to know if there is a mod to change this. Thank you in advance.
Nova launcher. It's in the settings.

glad it worked out for you. Also, apex launcher is awesome. You will find that apex and nova are similar, but you will also find they have their fanboys who insist that one is cool and the other sucks. Both can be made to look stock and both can change the search bar to ICS.

Well IMO, Apex is better when free.
Nova is better if you pay for it because it is much more polished looking.

Hi,
I saw some nice home screen design of Nexus 7, and it has modified app's icon.
How do you do that using the stock launcher?
Or is it not possible?
I remember that we can use "Desktop Visualizer" for example, but it is not compatible with Nexus 7.
The icon, that I got from the "Metro Station" is enlarged (see attachment, the one in the home screen).
My Nexus 7 is rooted if that can help.
But, I don't want to use other launcher
Thanks.
Unfortunately on the stock launcher you cannot change the icons or use any icon packs. If you want to, it would require the use of a launcher. I use stock but when I feel like changing it up a bit, I use nova prime. Performance is not effected at all. Its worth a try.

Please see the screen shot attachment in the first post.
I don't think it detects the Nexus 7 resolution and dpi properly.
Fyi, my launcher and all settings are still stock. No hack, no dpi change.

I use Metro Station for my icons. Apex launcher let's you change the icons and they look perfect... Well actually the Metro Station ones are a bit low res.

i made the dock icons using the icon base provided by dark matter icon pack found on deviart

Just use any other Launcher and you can change any icon to any .png file you find online or in an icon pack. Or use a good photo editor and make your own.

You don't need to use another launcher. You just need to root and change the .png files.

Hi all, I am running CM 10.1 (4.2.1) with Nova Launcher. I was wondering is there a way to change the lock screen background? instead of it showing my desktop wallpaper.
Thanks!
I don't think so..
I can on AOKP with that enabled (self promotion) like mine seriously though, some have it just have to dig around
