Lot's of folks are thinking about charger alternatives for their Kindle Fires.
Thought I might contribute what I think is a good choice and get some feedback.
I carry this with me everywhere and use it for my ipod Classic, Blackberry phone, Kindle Keyboard, wife's Droid X and, of course, iPad. I just use the other cords when required.
I got my all-round 5.1V 2.1 Amp USB Charger from eBay for around $6.00.
It's the Apple iPad Charger from its China sources.
Haven't used it yet on my Kindle Fire (i'm waiting for delivery Jan 3) but it is spec'd to work fine.
Search: USB 10W iPad Wall Charger
I saw a rocket fish USB wall adapter at bestbuy today for $15 that had 2.1 amp output
I wouldn't personally use an apple product.... they could by all purposes put battery killing code in there and malicioiuslly harm any non ios system. Not if I was paid 100 bucks

I've been charging mine with my vibrant usb/wall charger...it's slower than the kindle stock wall charger but it does work.

Seriously?
I charge mine from whatever pretty much. USB, 2.1A and 1A wall chg, 800ma, 1A, 2A car charger. It'll charge from anything, just at different rates obviously. The only issue I've had is it doesn't like my retractactable USB cable for charging.

i love the way you think...
the charger that came with my kindle fire did not work, i even checked it out with my inspire 4g and it didnt do anything. so ive been using my inspire charger for the fire, and i def want a different charger.
i contacted amazon and since i purchased my fire from a target store they wanted me to place an order for one and be waved the 25 dollars after i was already charged for it. call me paranoid, or on a tight budget, lol, i would like to find a cheap charger that works good.
maybe something like ten dollars max at a store so i can use it right away.
Just be careful about those cheap Chinese models that are claiming 2.1 A output. There are LOTS of bogus ones out there that can't actually do more than 400 mA or so. Search around and you will see lots of complaints from folks who got ripped off.
I'm a big fan of the Belkin F8Z630 USB charger. You won't get it for $6.00 (at least not legitimately), but it will absolutely deliver a solid 2.1 A at 5 Vdc. Plus, it can be used worldwide (100-240 Vac, 50-60 Hz), and the rotating plug feature is handy. It folds up nicely for storage in your briefcase.
I picked up a blackberry playbook power supply which has the same output that the KF has for $14 off of Amazon on sale. The charger has a fixed micro USB attached to it.
It even came with a good micro USB cable with it a well.
apple charger
I use a $5 micro to usb2 cable and my iphone wall charger and it works fine. It actually charges faster than my stock KF wall.charger.
For those looking for a good charger, the hp touchpad travel charger is an excellent compact charger that works great. Less than $12 on amazon.
As a spare charger, I'm using an older Motorola cellphone charger, with a mini to micro USB adapter I picked up on Amazon. I went with the $4 version made my Motorola. I have a few of the no name ones and they don't work for this application.
I have lost my charger. The charger that came with my Kindle Fire is 5V - 1.8A, i have a spare charger here with 5V - 2A, if i use it, will i break my kindle or burn it if use this charger?
no. Your KF needs 5volts "pushed" to it from the charger. Your replacement charger will be pushing 5volts. Your KF needs to be able to draw "pull" 1.8Amps. Your replacement charger can support up to 2Amps being drawn. Your good.
Not that its always the best charge speed or results but as long as it fits I use it for instance my car charger is just a cell phone charger and I have used my droidx wall charger on many ocassions at work seems to do alright but I dont do it all the time and less frequently now with the ics charge quirks. It does work but whether its the very best for the the device I cant tell doesnt appear to do any harm.
Ok, thank you guys
I haven't a battery charger for my Atrix to use when I'm driving, but I have one for a TomTom navigator, so I decided to try to use it for my phone, but it didn't work.
The battery icon on the phone did show same as when I charge it, but it was not charging, it went on losing power until it shut down.
I've tried the charger with the TomTom and it works.
I took a look to the output values both on the phone charger and the TomTom charger:
- TomTom charger -> 5V 1.2A
- Phone charger -> 5.1V 850mA
Why the TomTom charger didn't work with the Atrix?
I want to buy a charger for car which I can use to charge my Atrix, but I only find generic chargers, how can I be sure that they will work?
Atrix 4G - CM10.1 kernel 3.1
I bought this one: http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Vehicle-Adapter-micro-USB-Charger/dp/B000S5Q9CA
Brand and cheap. I guarantee it will work with Atrix.
So right before I sold my wife's Nexus 5, I had the opportunity to test it out with he RavPower RP-WCN11. It's basically a 4800mAh capacity portable charger like other ones on the market. You can attach a device to it with a USB cord like any other. However, it also has QI wireless charging capability.
I guess you could also say it's like a normal QI wireless charging pad that happens to have a 4800 mAh capacity battery inside.
I know others have referenced the product a few times. Here's a video with it in use.
My wife continues to use the power bank in the car and when we're walking our daughter around the neighborhood. It's held up pretty well.
Current price is $56.99 on Amazon w/ free shipping.

Has anyone found a 12v car charger that will charge the G3 while it is being used as a satnav or is the drain from the screen just too high?
I've tried a few different cheap unbranded chargers that will slowly charge the phone when not used but they seem to have little effect when used with Google maps.
I am using an Anker dual-port 24W quick charger sold on Amazon. I can confirm that it charges the phone even with the satnav running (it is the first one I found that really works).
It does not fit perfectly my car's cigarette lighter's plug (it moves a bit when plugged), but overall I am very satisfied about it.
i use Belkin 2A car USB charger with Mediabridge cable. charges at 2A no problem
I use one from Monoprice (2 Port USB Car Charger 4.2A - Black) with a USB2 cable and it works.
With a cheep USB cable the phone goes into slow charge mode.
R-
I use a Belkin Micro 5V 1A
It charges 1% every 20 minutes or so while using satnav. So, it at least keeps up.
