Q remote question for non US users - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This tablet is not officially out in Canada yet.
I bought while in the USA. Decided to try the Q remote software and see it is limited to TV brand and cable company box.
TV brand works fine but being in Canada there is no Canadian cable companies to control the box making this feature useless. Is there a way to update the manufacturer code list?

Bell uses the same or similar equipment as Dish (i.e. DiSH vIP622 == ExpressVu 9242) ... for others, you just need to do some googling (Comcast and Rogers used to be the same equipment).

[Q] Is it possible to change a US Fire TV to UK?

I was wondering if it's possible to somehow convert a US Fire TV to a UK model?
I received my UK Box today but would like to unleash the full capabilities of the imported US box. Maybe there's some way to flash it with the UK firmware?
Otherwise it will be sold or just continue to be a dedicated plex box
Cheers.
why would you want to convert US to UK? what extra features?
i would think the US version has more to offer
i know rbox pre-roots the latest US roms, maybe he can do the same for the UK roms.

There isn't "US roms" and a "UK roms". It's all the same. UK seems to be shipping with 51.1.4.0, eventually the US units will get that version pushed and when we get the update URL there will be a prerooted version of it.
The reason I want it changed is because as a US box I can not stream Prime video content.

I don't think the FW has anything to do with it. Your Amazon Account type/info & DNS are more likely your roadblocks.
Good thing AFTVNews got you covered...

If you trying to stream Prime Content from your UK account to a US AFTV, then you shouldn't have a problem as long as you have at least 5.1.1.3.0 firmware installed (I think that's the right one.. you need the one that was introduced when Germany launched). I stream my UK Prime Content on my US box just fine.
One thing to note, when you switch your account on the box to UK, then force sync, it can take up to 10 mins for your Prime videos to show as free. This happened to me once, even after multiple box reboots.

Fire TV in Europe?

Can I use a US-sourced Fire TV box on a PAL TV? I am going to Germany for 1.5 years and wonder if I can use my current Fire TV or if I have to buy a new one because of the TV format issue.
If you are running HDMI it should be fine I would say.

You will be fine. Fire TV have universal 110-240V power supply and HDMI standard is universal also. I'm and my friends using US-sourced Fire TVs in Russia without any issues.
But that doesn't mean that you can access all officially available content like netflix outside of US.

Nope, there are no problems using US amazon account world-wide. If you buy box directly from US amazon it will be automatically paired to buyer US account during initial startup. But you can re-pair it to any amazon account later if you wish.
I have multiple firetv's on my US account. 4 are in the us, 3 in the UAE and two in India. They all work flawlessly.
I guess I will have to find the European equivalent to the Netgear Nighthawk R7000 router. It has a built-in VPN function so I can me it look like I am in the US.
Thank you for all your help!

I would suggest you buy a router that can use Tomato/DD-Wrt you can configure VPN to have it on 24/7
The R7000 has the VPN client built into the system already so I don't have to mess with DD-WRT/Tomato.

I have the exact same router but I didn't like how slow the R7000 Netgear Firmware is. So I put tomato and am very happy with it.

US vs International version.

I'm about to buy this watch from Amazon. They have both a US and International version. I have no clue what the difference is. Any recommendations?

I bought the US version and have used it in countries outside US (India, Middle East) without problems. So I am not sure if it matters
Warranty differences. Nothing else.
What about wall chager plug? Does US version come with US type or standart EU type wall charger?
Best,
US version has US plug ( of course.....)
But who cares about that... adapters are $1....
Okay that adapter works
How about watch faces. For example should I use most common moto 360 luxury brand faces like R. Submariner, O.Semaster, T.Heuer etc.
Do these faces also compatible with Huawei watch?
If you guys who have these faces with Huawei would share some images, I will be glad.
Best,
Hello guys...
This is Huawei answer in Amazon:-
"Hello Stephen Munroe, I'd love to answer your question! Certain software updates on the U.S. and international versions of the Huawei Watch are different. For example, the Huawei Watch, featured in China, doesn't have the software update for the speaker that the U.S. Huawei Watch version has. Also, the U.S. watch comes with a 1 year U.S. manufacturers warranty while the international watch does not. (ED)"
Any experience with using the US-version in Europe?

Good question, I've just ordered the US version, I can't see why it wouldn't work here in Europe/UK though ?
I heard the US version is not IP67 certified and may not be as water resistant as the International version? Read that from a review on Amazon.
I'm using Huawei Watch US version in Asia (Pakistan) for a month now. It shouldn't be an issue because the watch doesn't have any network bands which you fear might mess up. I ordered the US version because of that speaker update which, according to Amazon Q&A, didn't land on international version. As for the IP67 certification goes, I didn't expose it to even a drop of water because I don't care if the watch is IP67 or not, speaker definitely isn't and since I'm away from US, I don't have the warranty so I can't risk it.
I was a proud owner of original Moto 360 for a year and half before this. This watch is leaps and bounds better than Moto. You're gonna love it using it and you're gonna love it when people are continuously going to compliment you because this watch is an exquisite piece of technology.

The difference in the Huawei Watch 2 international version & US is this.
Huawei did not release it's stand alone LTE version in the US, the US version lacks a sim card slot & LTE capability, it only runs on Bluetooth & WiFi & NFC.
The international version ha LTE capability, it has a sim card slot & can be used as a stand alone LTE device with it's on phone number so it doesn't need to be connected to a phone, it can run off LTE & WiFi & Bluetooth & NFC.
You're responding with comment about HW 2 to an almost 2 year old post which was about HW 1....??

Refurbished firestick prime ca?

Hey guys i needed to buy a few sticks and in Canada i was limited...
so found on US amazon refurbished fire sticks and got new also.
but my issue is that im in Canada and i can't use prime......
is there a way to activate the .CA prime?
No. US sticks are firmware locked and they will not work with Canadian Prime no matter what VPN service or DNS service you use. They simply refuse to work on Canadian Prime.
If you don't like the Basic stick, Amazon has the new 4k stick they just announced today which is available in Canada as well.

Indepently bought SM-R805 watch (UK), pairing to S7 on EE (UK) - Work out the box?

Good Morning All,
I appreciate this is a little away from the development side (well it is and it isnt, depending on whether I have to hack it lol) but would really appreciate the expertise from the group.
I have been asking in Samsung and EE and neither can answer the question - as usual just fob me off to the other party...
If I go into Argos or similar store in the UK today and buy this "Samsung Galaxy Cellular 46mm Smart Watch (SM-R805)", take it home and pair it up with my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge which has a SIM only 4G EE Contract (in UK), will the watch now work on its own, via 4G? - This is my main question/concern.
2nd question - do I need to get EE to do anything and/or pay them extra every month?
Its very important to me that the watch can pickup telegram notifications and emails without me having to have the phone on me (hence buying the cellular model). EE just want to sell me the watch + £14 pcm contract as they dont sell them outright.
From reading posts in this group all morning, I am getting the impression it should work out of the box without having to visit EE or pay them any extra. If Ive understood the various threads, the only complications is when pairing a watch with a non EE phone and/or in a different country? Thats when firmware changes and editors come into play
Thanks in advance for your time, Mark
