Hi everyone, has anyone tried to incorporate Philz recovery into a aosp/aokp $ TW kernel? Here's the link to the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860
[05.01.2014]CWM 6.0.4.6 Advanced Edition / PhilZ Touch 6.08.9 + exFAT + NTFS + MTK
I'm trying to set up my build environment to make a stab at it, and I know we have twrp for aosp/aokp based kernels. IMHO we need a touch based recovery for TW kernels.
Has anyone worked on any of this recently?

I've got a ROM on the S2 called Project X, kinda where the X in Wicked X came from. On the S2 you can use Mobile Odin to flash Recovery. Agat's Recovery works pretty good.

Yep the ROM is 4.1.2 also, which is the last TouchWiz update the S2 got.
Related
I recently got a Samsung Epic 4G Touch and immediately flashed the system to ICS, using SFHub's stock rooted FF18.
Phone works great with that rom. But I was trying to apply Kobridge's tweak pack and discovered that recovery is not letting me install .zip files.
I reboot into recovery fine, and can choose "apply update from sd card .zip" fine. I can navigate to the file fine. When I select it though, it immediately switches to an android bot lying down, with its hood open and a red triangle above it.
I then have to pull the battery to re-boot the phone. It boots into normal startup fine, but the tweak has not been applied.
I tried several versions, and other zips, and it doesn't seem to want to let me install anything that way.
Ideas? I'd rather not have to put CWM on the phone or a different rom on the phone just yet.
That is because the install update zips are for official sprint/Samsung upgrades. To flash those you need CWM.

You're going to need CWM or another custom recovery to flash anything on your phone
Now I feel like an idiot. I thought the version I got had a working recovery in it, but you're right - it didn't.
I installed Agat's and it's working fine now.
Thanks for the help!

ROOTED Verizon GS4 & Safestrap ROM install ERROR
Good day everyone!
I seem to have bumped into a problem im hoping someone on here can possibly help with.
I successfully rooted my Verizon Galaxy S4 on ME7 and got safestrap installed. I followed all the steps correctly then
I downloaded the Hyperdrive ROM but when I get to the install step for the ROM, it gives me a error saying "The zip cannot be flashed " or something of that matter. Anyone know a way to fix this or work around it?
Anyones help is truly appreciated.

Even though you're in the wrong forum... It sounds like a bad download, try redownloading the ROM.

DO NOT FLASH THIS IF YOU HAVE UPDATED TO MK3 (4.3)!!!! IT WILL CAUSE A HARD BRICK!!!
If you are not sure what this means, boot to download mode. If it says "Knox warranty void" or 'Warranty bit" as pictured below then leave this page. This will not work for you.

I'll try to keep this simple.
So here it goes, short but sweet...
You know it, you love it. Single recovery flashed file restore to UNROOTED STOCK with STOCK KERNEL, STOCK RECOVERY, MODEM, and Normal System Status with a Flash Counter at 0. Basically a replacement for the odin tar method for a quick on-the-go restore. This is the go-to file for a last minute trip to the sprint store or for unbricking without the need for a pc or ODIN. This will do what odin does with the addition of resetting the flash count during flash. To keep a custom recovery flash one from below after rom flash before rebooting into the system. To keep root access flash this after install BEFORE rebooting into system.
As with just about any rom you'll find posted on these forums, FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK as I am not responsible for anything you do to your phone. Special thanks to @deviant.one, @Maddhadder90 and most recently @decimalman for the assistance in making the flash count reset possible for the 32gb Model.
** These zips contain full firmware flashing. Checking the MD5 is highly recommended

This is excellent! Thanks for putting the work into this. Any chance the mods would sticky this for easy access later?
has anyone tried it yet?
If we used this along with the root flash and TWRP can we flash back to our previous rom without issue?
Do you have to have a custom recovery to flash this? Or can it be applied through the stock recovery?
I am currently running blazer rom but have stock recovery.
i am 100% stock, can I run this through normal recovery? I have been waiting for the OTA but havent received it yet.
I don't think this can be flashed with stock recovery. Must have custom recovery to flash

Hey guys, I just broke my galaxy nexus (fell in the pool) and a buddy gave me his old E4GT to use.
I did my research around this forum and found a ton of different things.
What I've done so far:
Wiped the phone and rooted using odin for FL24 which is the stock ICS build on the phone.
What I want to do:
Flash CWM recovery
Flash a Stable rom
I've been reading about a few unstable kernel issues around the forum and I'm a bit confused.
I would really appreciate the help with this Thanks
You should know that in order to flash a ROM, you need to flash a safe gb kernel, EL29 directboot or EL26 CWM,do you know about the emmc bug?
Since I dont see a specific question, check this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953783

There are a ton of really stable builds in android development, and most have cwm built in. Jellyverse is a kick a** ROM, but doesn't have cwm, but it's easy enough to flash that after you load the ROM. Good luck.

ROM
Well if you're looking for a stable ICS ROM, I can definately recommend the Blue Kuban FL24/FI27 ROM. All you need to do is boot into a safe kernel (http://e4gtcm.blogspot.com/p/tools.html), then boot into it (MAKE SURE YOU ARE ROOTED AND HAVE FILES ON YOUR PHONE, FAILURE TO DO SO WILL PUT YOU IN BOOTLOOP), then wipe data/factory reset, and then flash the rom (if you want the Blu Kuban ROM, here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625535). And you should be :good: to go.

*Note* After you flash the rom using the EL29 Directboot (which is needed to be flashed either through Desktop Odin or Mobile Odin), the ROM will automatically install a safe recovery after the ROM flash.
Thanks for the link to the newbie thread (missed it) also thanks for clarifying on the EL29! Right now I'm installing JellyVerse

HI Everyone So i discovered something this morning ,
i just bought a mega and i have a note 2 (i317)
i decided to take a chance and install a N7100 rom on it to see if it worked (DN3 4.4.2)
and GUESS WHAT? it did lol
only problem. the modem/radio doesnt work.
to be specific this was the beta 2 rom from electron team http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2504016
Can any dev out there fix the modem issue? if so this could be a 1up for us i317 users.
everything works when the rom is flashed i even made a video which ill be posting on youtube soon
-wipe data, wipe both cache, & wipe system then flash it & walah.
can anyone help with this??? :good: :highfive:
Can't you flash the correct modem for the mega? I don't even know if its available as a flashable zip, but you could get another mega user to extract the modem using adb, then you could flash it with Odin3.

I'm not sure what Rom your're using. Seems like its our DN3 Rom.
Main reason why I told you to use the Q/A for DN3 and not here!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52962320&postcount=3
ooohhhh, i thought that was part of your signature
thanks!
So I have an S3 that I had CM11 on and I switched from sprint to ting and need to update the PLR Profiles. I installed what I thought was a Touchwiz ROM (MOAR) and it wouldn't boot. But it removed Clockwork Mod, I'm back to the stock downloader that says "Odin Mode" with a Warranty Bit: 1.
Before I go further and flash a stock ROM (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2738533 ) with Odin I wanted to make sure this wouldn't brick (knowing brick anyway) my phone. Everything I read through search contradicts what I read before it. Some say that downgrading (CW11 is KitKat and I'm guessing this is JB or ICS since its from 2012) will brick your phone (Cant seem to find current stock ROMs), some say that flashing stock with "warranty bit: 1" will do it (I can't fix this bit count because phone wont boot), some say that flashing a stock ROM over a custom ROM will brick it. Of course for each rule there is 20 posts saying they are wrong.
TL;DR
Can I flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2738533 over a MOAR install on a phone with a warranty bit : 1 condition?
Thanks in advance,
Omega
PS - Thanks to all the Devs, been lurking here for years and using your work since my first Droid.
The tar in that thread is nd8 kitkat 4.4.2 for touchwiz. Once that tar is flashed you CANNOT downgrade bootloader or modem, you can however flash any rom you desire. Again be sure NOT to downgrade bootloader or modem, because doing so will hard brick your phone.

Yes you can flash this tar via odin. It will restore your phone back to factory settings with 4.4.2 touchwiz.
Thank you for the help and quick response! I am about to flash it now. I did have one more dumb question that I thought other people might not know and find this thread in search: Is the N8 the version of the radio software? The bootloader? What does it represent? When I good a 2 or 3 letter word like that, its useless.
Again thank you so much for the quick help.
Edit: Worked like a damned charm. If I could, I'd buy ya a beer. Thanks again.

ND8 is just the build number by Samsung that they settled on as stable. I've seen am explanation of exactly what the letters and number means but basically I think it's just year, month and day but I don't remember precisely.
