This is pretty darned clever... - Moto X Accessories

Of course it will be down to the software for how well it works, but it has piqued my interest.

This is pretty damn sweet actually :good:

Very cool.. i was thinking of doing something like that for myself anyways, but it would be nice if it was made for it!

I wonder how well this system will integrate with an aftermarket car stereo. I have a sub woofer, and a backup camera in my car, and they both connect directly to my head unit. If I could use an android phone as my backup camera, I would be incredibly pleased.

I believe it has preamp outs for a sub amp, but no input for a cam.

Can't really expect them to support other party cam setups. You could rig up an IP cam back there. There are a number of apps on Play that should be able to receive it.

A little more information here from Android Police
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...sony-xsp-n1bt-android-phone-mount-car-stereo/

My main concern with a setup like that would be screen burn-in on our AMOLED display. I used my GNex in a powered car dock with the screen always on, and I could clearly see the giant Pandora "P" burned into the middle of the screen from my car-home application.

Why would you need to keep the display on all of the time? Of course, if the clamp doesn't allow access to your power button, then it is a pretty big fail for Android.

If there was an option to dim the display or even go to sleep, with a way to quickly wake it up (Car Home Ultra recently added this feature) then I'd be fine with that. Otherwise, what kind of hoops would you have to jump through to skip/pause/change source/etc with the display turned off, all while avoiding an accident?

Well, I am assuming they thought this out, and ran everything by the lawyers as liability can be a big thing with something like this. Of course, it may be half ass (with no one thinking about sleeping/waking the phone) and just put up a universal disclaimer every time you power it on, much like my Eclipse "user interface from hell" in-dash nav head.
Guess will just have to wait and see.

Yeah, too light on details to know at this point. But I don't think it would really matter as much on non-AMOLED phones. I'm just wondering if this is tailored more for Xperia phones. If I had all the standard playback controls as physical buttons I'd probably be happy with it. It does look like it might have physical volume buttons, but I can't really tell what the others are for in that tiny pic.

The buttons on the front are source, voice, and volume, and maybe dual purpose (long press) as there are other labels printed next to them. It also comes with a remote for when the phone is not docked.
It is tailored for Sony models as it has the magnetic charging port for them in the cradle. I just hope it was not designed for always on screens. That would be a waste.

i will never, ever, ever ,ever EVER buy another sony product again, much less another head unit. i bought one last year that was 1/2 assed at best, and the firmware updates were pathetic. Plus when everyone complained in the forums, they buried the car audio forum in miscellaneous products with all the dead proprietary tech they abandoned. STAY AWAY

this head unit has potential. i've always wanted to do something with my N7, but this is a close second, and portable.

i'm wondering if this thing can be modified to fit a tablet!? at the end of the day, it's just the mounting mechanism that gets in the way.

I have yet to find a tablet that isn't polarized at 90°. That means it is un-viewable in landscape when driving with polarized sunglasses (which I always use).
Thankfully the Moto X is polarized at 45° and viewable in both portrait and landscape.

good point. the 7 is def polarized at 90.
i seemed to have had a similar problem with my old DROID1/2/3/4 lines. once i added an anti-glare screen protector, it seemed to correct the issue. i wonder if the same could be accomplished with a tablet or if its too much real estate.

That's kind of cool that it has a small display behind where the phone sits, that kind of resolves one of my concerns about it being totally useless without a phone, and having to uninstall it later when I sell the car.
Those "shelfs" on the top and bottom look like major dust catchers though, that would drive me nuts. The "release" button makes me wonder if the clamping mechanism is motorized? Would be cool if the magnet was strong enough and polarized correctly to trigger the Car Mode on the Moto X too.
Sorry, just thinking out loud...

KeviKev Case Video Review

Hey guys --
I just posted a video review of the KeviKevCase. I purchased it last week. I am not a reviewer, just grabbed my camera and decided to shoot a video about the case. Please forgive the quality, I just tossed something together for users who are still unsure.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRysHWqaLgc
Thanks, but with that black pad you have in the background, it's hard to see anything of the case. You need better lighting.
I stay in a bat cave. I tried to lighten it up the best I could. Maybe i'll reshoot at work.
I bought this case and there are few funny things. Like as you mentioned in your review the devise is upside down
And this can cause some problems when you are watching a movie or playing a game and the screen software does not use the function of screen rotation you will found your self holding your xoom in odd way to play the game.
In addition, if you need to plug your xoom to the charger you can't close the case because the devise is upside down.
Otherwise, if these things does not really matter to you, an ok case.

That would be the fault of the software not using auto rotation not the case if the xoom went in the other way when you had it in landscape the camera would be at the bottom facing your belly not your face.correct?

Lol um those of you saying its upside down.... turn it over. The small part where the case bends is the bottom. If you look at the other eBay auctions for this case you will see that you are actually holding it upside down. The back panel that folds into the notch is the back when you fold it around and not the bottom. This makes it where the device is almost standing up when it's opened.
I have the Motorola case that is sold at the Verizon and best buy stores and it opens the same way with the charging ports facing the inside of the fold.
This is how it should look when opened.

Umm then we flip it over and the cut outs on the back for the important things like SOUND, the front and back CAMERA are covered up now and the POWER button.

This is true. However, not all apps support the rotations and sad thing most of the games and video apps usually does not support it. though I understand your point the other possible options propaly will cover the camera ..
What about power cut !! you can't even charge your xoom if the case is closed !!
The more I use the case the more I'm getting annoying. I need to open my case and lay it face down to charge my phone at night.... Now, I have to flatten out the case to play a game.. it's starting to making me a bit mad. Hopefully he comes out with a different version and allow us to exchange if we are not happy. Something needs to be rethought out or something.

If you use it like the op who posted the video did (upside down) then yeah, the cameras would be at the bottom, the speakers would be facing the surface you have it set on, and the power button would facing down.
If you stand it like it's shown in the product pictures (right side up) the cameras are on top and when you turn it around everything is up top like it's supposed to be.

$1.99 Hoodrat Car Mount (Jeep Grand Cherokee)

So I bought a G10.1 last week and I love it! I am always looking to get the most out of my purchases and since I always use my phone in my car (HTC Evo Shift 4G) I instantly started looking for Car mounting options. I found some big gawdy universal mounts, and a few really nice (but high dollar) mounts, then as I was walking through the local Walmart, something just happen to catch my eye!

Yes, that is a picture of those el-cheapo plastic self adhesive hooks, for $1.99 a pack. The gears started turning...
I picked them up, knowing the adheive was going to be junk for what I wanted to use them for (wouldn't hold to the heat/cold)... but I carry 3M Double Sided EXTREME Tape in my Jeep because you never know what you will need to mount to the dash...
So when I got home, I lined it up, and found that the mounting spots I was hoping to use matched perfect. At first I used all 4, but then took one of the top corner hooks off, making it easier to "slide" into the other three, yet still holding it rock solid. It covers the middle vents, so I closed them, which pushes the air to the other ones.
** NOTE ** I have a ZAGG InvisibleSHEILD and a Chinese bumper-style case from e-bay on it, this allows it to "snap" into place, and I don't have to worry about the hooks on the screen... Use caution, I am not responsible for you marking your tablet up.
Here is a picture of "Car Dashboard"... I was unable to find any other tablet ready Car Dock apps, but this one seems to work well for now...
One more with Google Maps
One with Google Music (I have it Wifi Tethered to my phone)
If you have your own mounting solutions, lets see em!
@TechJeeper
Neat. Looks like the ideal situation would be having black ones, put two pointing up on the bottom, one on each side pointing to each other, and then having enough space to slide the tablet down from above.
i did something a little different about a week ago. its a mount made for the tab that i modded with a phone mount that hooks to the air vents. its really sturdy.

The lip that hangs over the dash on the Grand Cherokee makes it impossible to slide in from the top... that was my first idea... but this seems to work well. I plan on replacing them with Black hooks in the future, but they were more expensive, and I wasnt sure if this was even gonna work.
The 10.1 is to big for my mx5 :-| im looking for used 7" tab to play around with. They look like i could mount it so it sticks out of the double din just enough to power and plug In
Nice, I've been wanting to do something similar in my jeep as well. Unfortunately, I dropped my tab (face first) on concrete yesterday and shattered the front glass.

Since you're using an alternate, stronger adhesive, you could cut the circle part of the hooks down to look more presentable while the tab is not present. Just an idea.

Philips Fidelio Android Docks

Has anybody had any experience with these newer android docks that Best Buy is now carrying? They have two different models and the Nexus sits on them pretty well but the displays were non functioning so I was not able to test the speaker quality. Overall they got pretty decent reviews on the Best Buy website, but the accompanying software on the google market appears to have quirks.
Any experiences would be nice to hear!

Thanks man. How well does it function as an alarm? Is the LED clock bright or real dim?
That alarm clock looks nice. Thanks for the heads up.. what are the alarm options (music, buzzer, radio)? Does it support multiple alarms?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
best buy also has the as351 which is in between the two. The biggest difference is that it has the option to use batteries so you can take it with you. I dont like the app that you use with it. It always tries to connect when you plug it to any power source. I just pair it and turn on bluetooth when i connect it. It doesnt have to stay docked to play music since its bluetooth.
i use alarm clock plus to come one when it plugs in though i am afraid of burn in on the soft keys so i end up turning the screen off.
it fits great with diztronic rev 3.0 on but does not fit with the cruzerlite tpu andy cases. It was on sale for 85 2 weeks ago. The as351 is great if you want something more than the smaller one but would like something to take with you on the road. Here is also he as851 that has a rechargable battery but is only at frys or amazon and is 200 bucks.
I have the big grand daddy of them all, the AS851. And its a beast! I was looking for something on the same par as a Harmon Kardon Iphone dock one of my family members bought but there isnt a lot out there for android. Sure you can get a set of external speakers but they don't look as attractive, cant charge and isnt as compact. Plus it has the option to play through an aux cable which will fix any imperfections found when using bluetooth. It also has a second USB slot on the rear of the device for charging of multiple devices.
Although the price tag is up there, I HIGHLY recommend this dock, and any of the other Fidelio docks. The sound quality is pretty damn good (Especially with a proper EQ and bass boost) and can hold its own with the upper crust of the slew of iphone docks.
My only two big complaints with the device are mainly minor. For one, I have yet to find a case that will properly fit the dock. The micro-usb connector is just a hair too thin and is unable to reach the port in order for it to charge. The other gripe is the Fidelio app. Just avoid it. Its not terrible but the stock player or other higher rated music app will work just fine. I want the app to work since there is some minor integration with the remote (And I hate not being able to use every button on the remote!) which is essentially untouched.
Good luck with the decisions guys! I adore my dock and ABSOLUTELY recommend it to anyone who uses a lot of music or just a casual listener. For the hardcore audiophiles, you might find a few flaws, but even you will find a way to love the dock. Just not the price

The diztronic rev 3.0 has a very similar fit to the cruzer lite. I have the smoke grey transparent and the glossy black which I use most of the time. The ports on the bottom are a bit more open that allow it to sit on the speaker dock better. At least on the AS351 though. I assume that it should be silmiar to the as851

Thanks! Think I'll be picking one of these up soon.
I have had an issue with my Fidelio dock: the USB charging connection seems to be flaky. When I plug it in, sometimes it shows as charging and sometimes it doesn't. At first I thought it was a software thing (the dock was turning the power on and off to try to get the Fidelio app to launch on the phone) but I've come to think it's a physical problem with the plug. Sometimes it switches state when I wiggle it, or even just walk by.
Anybody else noticed behavior anything like this? It certainly limits the dock's utility.
I have the exact same problem with mine (AS140) It seems like it's just random when it wants to charge... Kinda disappointing, but I mainly use it for Bluetooth media playback, so It's not a huge deal, but still annoying.

I noticed the USB port doesn't charge unless something is plugged onto the microUSB? I can't charge my iphone unless my nexus is sitting on the dock. Is that right? It shouldn't be like that in my opinion.
just got one of the middle ones of these a few days ago.
Whilst the fidelio software is pretty laggy you can use it very easiily just via bluetooth. i use it as a bedroom alarm clock and im very impressed. so much so im thinking of getting the big one for the kitchen
nice to finally see some android docks coming through ......
and for those claiming dodgy connections on the dock i assume you have lowered the stand using the 'wheels' to allow for any case you have ? mine sits on perfectly even using an s-line cover.
anyone try this one from ihome? I cant decided either this or one of the phillips models.
it looks interesting

WATERPROOF Obex case review

There is nothing to hide when I say lifeproof was my favorite case for the iphone and let me wondering ..when the heck are we gonna get some love??
Seidio did it with the OBEX . Its awesome to be able to put your phone under water!!! I cant get over it haha
enjoy

Looks good. Good review. I think I'll wait for life proof to decide if I want this or that.

the 1meter limit kills it. lifeproof will be 2 meters.
I want a case even if larger designed to be opened often with NO PORTS so it can go deeper. I would like 30ft. thats deep enough you can dive down a little snorkeling and if you drop it in shallows its not likely to go deep enough to crush.
It is actually a 2.3 meter submerge for 30 minutes but contstant 1 meter down.
ahh thats not so bad then. not like typical user will stay under that long anyway

He he exactly. The way I see it even if u are in a pool floating and chilling the phone will most likely be in your pocket and that will def be less than 2 meters

does it float?

Unfortunately, it doesn't float....I let my daughter play with it in the tub, sank to the bottom.
So I finally got my review finished and thought I'd share my opinions on it.
No doubt this is a beast of a case but its not perfect by any means. I've dropped it twice from about 4 feet in height with no visible damage as well as done a few underwater trials one of which was letting my one and half year old daughter play with it while she took a bath. Held up like a champ and build quality is top notch. The case is bulky but not unusable by any means, takes a few seconds getting used to it and after that you're home free. It pockets very nicely in my jeans but I can see it being a problem for people with skinny jeans.
The screen sensitivity goes down with the screen guard and tends to jerk every once in a while so I had to disable pattern unlock and stop using the swype-like feature in the keyboard I use but I'm still able to scroll through webpages and pinch to zoom in pictures pretty well. Call quality seemed great on the receiving end but on my end it was a bit muffled. Same thing happened when listening to music but something that helped was making sure the speaker volume wasn't at full 100%. It can't be completely avoided considering the sound has to travel through a water tight chamber so in my eyes its a decent trade off.
The latch that exposes the power port stopper could be a little less hard to open imo and I definitely put my nails through a bit of pain and bruising after opening it time and time again. Hard buttons worked flawlessly but the capacitive buttons took some getting used to with the lip at the bottom of the case. Overall I would recommend you add it to your arsenal and even if its not your daily driver its good to have for those family outings or outdoor adventures.

Mine was delivered yesterday. I like the case a lot however, as noted, there is room for improvement.
My biggest complaint is that the main body of the case slides easily on hard surfaces since it's is made of hard plastic. It doesn't grip to the surface if placed face up and can easily slide off an end table or night stand if bumped. The face section of the case is lightly rubberized so the phone won't slide as easily if placed face down.
My Seidio Extended case for my Thunderbolt had a rubber exterior with a skeletonized hard plastic cover. Enough of the rubber exterior was exposed to provide some slip resistance. IMO, the Obex could benefit from some exposed rubber areas on the back portion of the case to provide some anti-slip properties.
The positive aspect of the hard cover is that it does slip into my pants pocket easily.

No floating at all

Agreed o how slippery it is..If the material was a little more rugged or maybe have some indentations it would be different.
Also, I dont understand a little why is it that big. Between the phone and the case there is room. They could ve made it maybe smaller and keep the phone tighter but on the other hand we are already working with a large device
How does the mic and speakers portion work? Do you have to uncover flaps or something?
Some additional observations.....
The protective screen cover really affects the sensitivity of the touch screen. Using the phone is starting to frustrate me.
The screen 'jumps' a lot and registers touches when I don't intend to touch. Additionally, getting the back button to register is hit and miss.
I guess for $80 I'm stuck with dealing with this, however, the water & drop protection are more important to me, at least for now with winter weather approaching.
Consider if the reduced screen sensitivity is worth it to you before you spend the $$$ on this case.

nope. those are protector by a membrane. So sound goes out but nothing goes in.
the ports u need to open are charging and head phones
And a little more to add....
I just got a phone call from Seidio! The rep was gathering feedback on the Obex case. I relayed the observations I made in my previous two posts and he said that he would pass it on to his product development team.
I've never experienced this from a company before! I would suspect that other early adopters will get a call for product feedback as well.
It's nice to see a company reach out to its customers.

Yeah there's no doubt Seidio customer service is top notch. Glad you got a chance to convey the concerns, who knows maybe some adjustments will be made and they'll send you a replacement. At the very least similar products will improve moving forward

What is the giant bottom bezel for?

What is the function of the bottom bezel if navigation buttons are on screen? obviously Google would have made the screen bigger or phone smaller if the bezel was just blank space... so what is its function then?

The tear down will answer this question. There is always some sort of electronics down there, just a matter of how much. is in there.
hopefully a lot or else that is very disappointing... I wish they at least added a home button or a finger print sensor there at least for aesthetics

The Pixel is built off of the HTC A9 frame, HAS to be. Just look at the damn thing.

Here is the Pixel when some leaks first started to happen. The two sensors have been moved but their the same size and shape. There is also a little blur down at the bottom, might be covering a button of some kind.
A9 or htc10 frame
I like the bottom bezel. I know I'm the minority though.
On my Nexus 6P, the bottom of the screen is too low to reach comfortably, in my opinion.

Wish they would have went with the rear of the HTC 10.
Or just a phone with very rounded corners. Possible they just like the style. Antennae array is in the back under the glass I heard so that seems different then the other HTC phones. The camera is at the top but in the corner also.
Waiting for a device break down and we will see how close it is. I do not really care for the large Bezels either but I suppose they have a reason.

I agree, I'm currently using a 2014 Nexus 6 and the thin bottom bezel makes it so I have to reach too far downward to press the on screen nav buttons, which makes for very uncomfortable use
Judging by hands on reviews of these Pixel phones, it looks like the big bottom bezel keeps the users thumbs in alignment with the nav buttons, which probably leads to more comfortable use, especially when using the phone in one hand.
I agree they could of done more with the bottom bezel, like add a speaker or something. Hopefully they at least made good use of that space internally

You are right, they do look similar in some ways. Judging by the comparisons picture that I added to this post, the bezels are thinner on all sides of the Pixel phones when compared to the A9. The sensor window is the same shape but seems to be a little bigger on the Pixel.
The backside of the Pixel is obviously different and if you turn the Pixel sideways, the Pixel starts out thin on the bottom and becomes thicker at the top, which the A9 doesn't.
So there are some differences and if they did start out with a A9 template then Google modified it to their own liking.

I'm waiting to buy it after the masses already get theirs and some trusted reviews post videos. I'm waiting for MKBHD and Flossy Carter.

Good idea, I hear people are already doing unboxing videos today, so reviews shouldn't be too far away.
Edit - Turns out those unboxing videos are old and not from today, my bad.

Comparison videos are what I really want to see. MKBHD is a little too focused on the camera on any phone, while Flossy actually buys the devices he reviews, and always compares them to whatever else he has.
If you haven't seen his stuff, you should watch his Real Reviews, which are like 45 minutes to an hour...and hilarious. Plus, he's a huge black dude from New York.

You know you could buy the device yourself and have 30 days to return it for a full refund right? Why let others influence your decision... the phone isn't going to be bad by any means, so there is nothing to worry about there.
