However might limit my car choice in future as most modern cars don't have replaceable radio's.

I'd get that if I had the ZU instead... I don't think the viewing angles of our phones will allow us to use this.

I currently have a KiDiGi desktop dock (LC-SXZ1 ) mounted in the centre of my car dash and the viewing angle is fine from the drivers perspective.

This is great but I was wondering if the dock will charge the phone too?

Yes indeed!
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...sony-xsp-n1bt-android-phone-mount-car-stereo/

I hope it can be compatible (in some way) with the steering wheel controls of my Hyundai i30

so i bought this deck and have been using it for a week now with my Z1, the dock charges the phone at similar speeds of the OEM wall charger which is awesome, so even with full brightness and bluetooth streaming, the phone still will charge as you drive.
no idea if your steering wheel buttons will work with it as my vehicle does not have any
if any of you have any questions on other functions of the unit, feel free to ask in this thread.
i have not played with it extensively yet, but some big pros and cons so far:
pros:
-fairly easy to align and mount into the magnetic charging dock
-high amp charge through the magnetic port and the usb port
-decent quality outgoing bluetooth phone audio and multiple options of microphone mounting locations
-fits phones up to 80mm wide
-very easy to pair devices with NFC function
cons:
-phone clamp does not actually lock our phone in a secure position (it will however, lock smaller sized phones very effectively). if you hit a pot hole or something of similar effect during high speed, the clamp will sometimes undo it self and your phone might pop out of the deck depending on how stiff your vehicle's suspension setup is.
-while the sony remote app from playstore is active, your keyboard is disabled
-lack of playback buttons on the deck
-when the sony remote app is running, the keyboard gets disabled
these are of course my personal opinions so far.

Despite the specs saying it won't, would the Xperia Z Ultra fit?
Thanks very much for your post. It's very helpful for those of us considering a purchase of this XSP-N1BT head unit. I have an Xperia Z Ultra with dimensions of 179.4 x 92.2 mm so it seems that based on the posted max supported phone size for this head unit in the manual of 150.7 x 77mm my phone would NOT sit/fit in the dock properly, but I'm wondering if there's anything you can tell from having your hands actually on it that might seem like it could accommodate it anyway. Doesn't it seem idiotic for Sony's own engineers to not make sure this stereo works well with their current largest available smartphone? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. I'd bet there are loads of Z Ultra users like me trying to find this info, so they'd be extremely happy if you could post a picture of a Z Ultra in your unit if indeed it could fit, but any kind of answer from an actual owner would be awesome before I make a purchase I might have to return.

The Z ultra will 100% not fit in this deck, the largest device that did fit in there is the Samsung note 2, with a width of 80mm. Fitting the note 2 also required a significant amount of force to squeeze it in.
Sony's engineers/designers definitely had a brain fart while working on this unit, either that or the one i purchased is defective because the locking latch does not actually push down far enough to actually lock the z1 in place. This problem is hard to describe in words, but what happens in the real world is when ever i hit a bump, slight pot hole or accelerate/decelerate too fast, my z1 falls right out of the deck and sometimes hit me right in the balls . Although this would only be a problem if your car has stiff suspensions like mine.

Usage with smartband
Is there anyone of you that have this, that also have a sony smartband? I have the smartband, and every time i connect to the XSP-N1BT, my phone starts the lifelog app for the smartband. I have tried to use the smart connect app to create an event to launch the app remote, but it always open the lifelog after that the appremote has opened.
Help anyone! ??

Had this unit for a week. Returned it. does not do much without the phone and the phone would get really hot.
To add to that certain actions were not available when connected. Was just too clunky for me as it went in my wife's vehicle.

I just purchased the XSP-N1BT head-unit to go with my Xperia Z Ultra. At first glance, and by the published specs it won't fit. But I got a up close and personal look at the radio and took some measurements with a caliper, and I think I can successfully modify the mounting to accept the Z-Ultra. I will perform the mod tonight and post a step by step of the procedure. If you’re like me and aren't afraid to hack on a perfectly good brand new radio because you can, then plan on following along.

Can you describe what you did you retrofit the Z Ultra? You link above isn't working for me, and when I did find the picture, I only see a small thumbnail.

You can use your keyboard.
You can use your keyboard. You have to uncheck a setting in the app. I can't find the setting right now. I believe you need to be in the car to change certain settings. I found it by accident. I called Sony because it was a deal breaker for me. They had no clue. the setting is in the app. Check it out when in the car.

these are of course my personal opinions so far.

Was looking for an answer for something else but thought I'd chip in to this thread.
Those with the stereo may be able to turn off the "physical keyboard" by doing the following, bare in mind i'm using an Xperia Z2 so hopefully this will work.
Go to bluetooth settings, select "Sony Car Stereo" from the list of profiles available and untick "Input Device".
Doing this should permanently disable, or rather permanently enable soft keyboard functionality with your phone when connected without having to manually turn it off all the time.

Hi!
I confirm that you can enable soft keybord by unchecking "Input Device" in settings.
But I have other problem and I'd like to ask you for your help. Generally everything is working fine to me but after disconnect my Xperia Z1 from receiver my phone doesn't go to deep sleep with constant bluetooth activity. Usually helps me turning off and turning on bluetooth another time I have to restart my phone. Can anyone helps me?
Milosz.

Changed my app radio for this and up to now its great..the only thing is how can we enable the keyboard???
That part is annoying... Lol

Will this unit work for the Z5? I don't think Z5 has magnetic connection to charge

Will this head unit allow me to use my steering wheel uconnect buttons (basically one voice command button and one phone activate button) as well as other steering wheel buttons ( volume up/down, track forward/back) in my 2013 jeep jk?

Anykind of docking station available?

Hey guys, has someone a fitting dock for the Captivate Glide?
AFAIK there is no official one, but maybe the dock of another, more famous, Samsung phone does fit the Glide also.
Greetings Alex22
Unfortunately, I think we are in lack of luck with the µUSB port on the top. This would constrain to put the phone horizontally on a dock with the docking on one edge.
This must explain the lack of docking station on eBay unlike the batteries' charging stations.
One alternative may be to reproduce this SGS mod : http://www.qianqin.de/2011/09/18/samsung-galaxy-s-wireless-inductive-charging-mod
But I don't know if it is possible with our Captivate Glide.
Here is 1 from Philips http://www.techradar.com/reviews/au...-systems/philips-fidelio-as851-1042940/review unfortunately our phone would be connected upside down. I wonder if there is an app that lets it work upside down?

Back when I used CM for the HTC Dream, I always had the option to enable the screen to rotate 360°.
So I guess it's a ROM thing, but definitely makeable.
But anyways, that's a pretty hefty docking station, and with nearly 200 pounds it's nowhere near my budget.
Lets just hope there'll be more Android Dockingstations to come.
@EMegamanu: Thanks for the link, pretty interesting that you can mod a phone like that. But I'm too afraid and too inexperienced with solderings to mod my phone like that

This looks cool the Dock Boss allows you to plug your android phone into any Ipod dock:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19736_7-20110799-251/dockboss-plug-android-phones-into-iphone-docks/
OK I doubt it allows you to control the Next track and play/pause but it should charge and route the Music to the device. It plugs to your phones audio connector and the Micro USB to charge.
Here is another dock that looks interesting uses a cable to plug to an android phone so it does not matter where the connectors are located. It also has a nice little Remote:

I like the docking station from thinkgeek. The Price is okay, the design as well, the only thing that I would nitpick about is that you can't just put the phone into the dock, but have to connect both headphone and charging cable to hte phone.
Otherwise than that it's worth the weight for me.
You know, it's a shame that our phones seem to have a cult following almost. Many people don't seem to know about it either. Samsung did great, especially since keyboard phones are going the way of the dodo, and I use a keyboard for gaming and texting anyway.
My only complaint is that there's no hardware camera button, but that's not a deal breaker in the least.
Really missing my Milestone dock.....its the only downside to this phone I can find.
I hate fishing for charging leads

The keyboard and the availability on my carrier made the decision for me. I do a lot of emailing from my phone, and the keyboard is just faster and more precise than even Swype style input options for me.
I did at first miss the hardware camera button from my old WinMo LG eXpo, it was very nifty, but it's not even an issue for me anymore. Is that a common thing among Android phones?
the galaxy s vibrant comes with a charging dock that uses the same corner usb connection. Unsure on the thickness of the phone in comparison to the vibrant though.

Well, I bought one to try out. Wasn't much, only $10 from eBay with the packaging or $13 new. Oh, I'm using a stock AT&T Captivate Glide on the latest update.
Physically, it's fine. Smaller than it looks, actually, covering about 9/10 of the length & 4/5 of the height. The depth is a bit more fudged, covering only the lower half of the slider, leaving the screen half hanging. The main issue is that although the plug is 95% on target, the 5% means you'd have to add a spacer to raise the rest of the phone up a bit. But it definitely attaches without trouble. Nice & compact.
EDIT: Driver: the charging works, though considering it didn't a few hours ago, I'm not sure what changed. Ah, the connector is a tad longer than what fits, so perhaps one must jiggle the phone a bit to get it to work? Though I tried that earlier, too....
Software/driver side is a flop. The Samsung Desk Home application from the marketplace (the generic one) doesn't work. So yeah, no automatic launching or sound out of the dock's line out. It's odd, since the settings has a dock setting in the settings, so something should work. I just wasn't able to find out what. I suppose the dock might have an identifier & the phone isn't coded in?

which docking station did you get? that is 1 thing I don't understand with samsung, why do they make the micro usb connector on the top of the phone? It should be on the bottom, this would be simpler for docking stations to connect and less cumbersome having a wire to conect all the way to the top of the phone.

My mistake, I forgot it's difficult to locate. Here's the Galaxy S used version <ebay.com/itm/OEM-Samsung-Galaxy-S-i9000-Multimedia-Dock-Home-Charger-/150629639833> & new version <ebay.com/itm/N-OEM-Samsung-Galaxy-S-4G-Multimedia-Dock-Home-Charger-/160616869990>. If you go through the store, there's the Vibrant & Galaxy S versions, but I'm not sure there are any differences.
Being a horizontal dock, your issue is not applicable, though it's certainly understandable.
Oh right, the clock application already has a dock function, but it doesn't activate upon docking & I couldn't get it to reroute the audio. It does prevent the screen from turning off, so I guess it's not too bad.
Hi would this work with the glue as a basic dock? not sure if the plug is in the right place for this mobile,
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Gal...UTF8&colid=2AOM2U1G0O9ZJ&coliid=I9O547D7LLW3P
if not aren't there any Samsung accessories that can be adapted for a dock to charge or hdmi out here's wishing lol.
Atb
That is the amazon location of the dock I reviewed. Everything I've mentioned should apply.
I guess glue would work? As long as it's completely dry, naturally. I used three thin nails in three rows, taped down. Not the prettiest, but at least it matches the blue led.

Hi Thanks for that, where's the link to your review and why were the nails used just to stop it dropping forward of the front of the dock, were there any other mods needed to make it work.
Thanks
Paul
The review is spread over two posts, two & four posts above my prior post with pictures.
I used nails as a spacer as the micro-USB port is a tad bit high. Everything else worked well, though the phone electrical connection to the dock may be finicky at times.
I currently use an ihome desk lamp. The glide sits rather well in the ipod dock, but I have to supply my own power. I was eyeing this the other day too http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/ec56/
found it! SGH-i927 HTPC solution
here's what i think we've all been looking for:
this should be all you need to use your Captivate Glide as HTPC (or just use the dock on your night-table/desk, whatever)
iBolt™ MHL Streamer Dock - Black
http://www.fommy.com/view-full-page.php?divid=Samsung&model=Samsung+Captivate+Glide+SGH-I927&cat=Cradles&skuno=94753
the only actual dock i've found that's listed as compatible with i927, and it comes with cables! i am SO getting that one of these days...
(actually, the compatibility list is quite large, i'm guessing just about any device with MHL will work with this dock)
i happened to find this site about an hour into googling for a glide dock... they have the widest range of sgh-i927 stuff i've found:
http://www.fommy.com/samsung-captivate-glide-sgh-i927.htm
and that's the only place i've found that sells the iBolt dock...
couple that dock with a Bluetooth kbd/mouse combo; something like this:
CE Compass Bluetooth HID Wireless Keyboard Mouse
*edit*
THIS little thing is AWESOME:
http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/wireless-touch-keyboard-k400
I picked one up on sale at Office Depot. Works GREAT and even has a home button.
After using this on windows pc's, android tablets and android phone (USB OTG), I HIGHLY reccommend it to anyone looking for a keyboard with integrated touchpad.
two finger scrolling in windows and android works great.
in case you don't have an hdmi monitor, just an HD hdmi to dvi adapter for ~$5
(if you have to go DVI, chances are you'll need an audio cable to connect to your audio device. for example, my tv is older and doesnt do audio over DVI, but the DVI input has RCA audio inputs right beside it; so i would use a 3.5mm to RCA cable.
Or you may want to run from phone headphone jack to audio line in on your home theatre audio receiver.
Chances are if you need seperate audio cable, either 3.5mm to RCA or 3.5mm double-ended cable would be what you need.)
so that's about $100 to use your phone as a desktop computer or HTPC as well.
I can't wait to try this on my 60" DLP tv....

Car System with NOTE

I want to make the beast (aka note) the centre of entertainment/info in my car.
The problem: My car has no aux input.
Solution: FM Transmitter.
Now I tried a few cheapo fm transmitters, and they all had horrible sound connection. The transmission was fine but something was wrong. I pretty much gave up on this idea until I tried my brother's fm transmitter. It was crystal, however it had long cables which dangled over the driver -not ideal. Also, his one was from a good company and cost $120 -yikes.
Anyways, just the other day I saw my friends set-up. All he had was this:

Which can be bought off ebay for ~$15, or even cheaper from other sources.
It is the perfect companion, since the rigid arm holds the phone just firm enough. It cleanly connects to fm. And charges it simultaneously.
Here's one for example: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FM-Trans...Accessories&hash=item20c69cb619#ht_3654wt_905
After looking for it for many hours, I can't find a suitable one for androids.
For once, I am jelly over Apple's monopoly of its proprietary connector.
Any good solutions you guys know of?
Why would you bother, just buy radio with aux and a stand.

Wow, this was your first post on xda, I'm honored.
The thing is, I'm not planning on keeping this car for too many years... so a new head-unit will be a little pointless and expensive. Another thing, there is a separate display unit which pairs with the headunit...so removing it will stuff that up (which is handy for quick time and temperature).
It plays CD's but I don't have any cd's...they're all digital media.
I know I'm not the only one with an Android phone who has this problem, so a solution is out there.
Anyways, I found these solutions on ebay:
1) Bought, tested, its useless. Cables float everywhere. Costs ~$5.
Picture: http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab314/youkeshu/youkeshu-7/AA404_5-ALL.jpg
2)Then I found this one, costs ~$11, also suffers from the same noise distortion. Again cables galore!
Picture: http://cdn1.sellerimage.com/cdn2/120802/9e/78/f4/fmt-uni023_1_cc.jpg
3) I found this. Its just like the first crappy one. This one I haven't bought and tested, it may actually work well. But again cables galore!
Picture: http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/ab238/ebay510/home and garden/CBA00031-1.jpg
4) Okay I found this a working solution. The seller contacted me said it doesn't have the noise problem like the other options and backs it up with a full refund. Sad part is it costs ~$45...and what makes it worse is that the cables are still hanging about but at least not as much as the solutions prior to this.
Picture: http://gomadic.us/imgs-prod/fmt/samsung-galaxy-2-car-auto-charger-fm-transmitter.jpg
I finally found a (2yo?) thread in Google where they were discussing the same thing for the original Droid.
Anyways, I found a link to it on Amazon but it was discontinued.
Luckily enough, it was "related" to another product which led me to find this:
http://www.amazon.com/GOgroove-Flex...?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1339419456&sr=1-39
Same as the iPhone dock, only costs double the price. Instead of Apple connector, its a microUSB.
edit:
Hold on, found this. Same product (moreless) but $18
http://www.amazon.com/Accessory-Pow...?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1339419702&sr=1-19
edit:
Okay now its pouring in, found an even cheaper one ($13) lol.
http://www.amazon.com/GSI-Dock-Moun...-Smartphones/dp/B004006L7W/ref=pd_sim_sbs_e_2
Okay, so there was more to this story than I thought. Wondering how I couldn't find any in the sea of thousands of other (mostly iphone) fm transmitters.
Anyways, back on ebay and finally found this:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/17083475...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_3398wt_1270
Same as the other ones (~$20) but ships Internationally so anyone can get a hold of it.
It looks to be too small to fit the beast, and the seller hasn't responded back to my message.
But another seller has.
And no, the clamps maximum width is 80mm. We need at least 83mm, or ~90mm (comfortably) to clamp the note. But I have good news from the seller:
"But we will list another item which will fit for your Samsung NOTE,
Please come back to our shop 10 days later,or I can notice you when we list the item."
"Ok,I will let you know when we get new model.
Please don't worry,we have professional Technician?"
I'll keep this thread updated once I get my hands on it.
(ps I broke my windshield mount the other day, so hopefully 2-angry-birds-1-stone)
just to let u know, transmitters/holders that plugs into the cigarette lighter last a week max.
once the rubber that that goes into the cigarette light wears out, its all over, it wont stay up.

Thanks for the input.
I'm going to try anyway and give a review. It shouldn't cost much $15-$30 so the burden wouldn't be great.
And if it does fall apart, I'm planning on modifying it so it becomes a windshield mount.
That way I can have eyes on the road, and glanceable navigation... while having music from car speakers and hands-free phone function. The Ultimate Road Warrior! xD
this is what i would do if i werent to invest in a head unit.
www.firesport.com.au, buy a 2nd hand amp for cheap.
connect the amp to speakers.
connect the note directly to amp via cheapo 3.5mm to aux cable.
sound quality will be 10x better than transmitter lol.
migrate amp to next car

Of course the advantage of the ebay item is that its too easy to setup and can work in literally all cars. And the unit is still purposeful even if the fm isn't transmitting (ie phone holder + charger).
And you will definitely get x10 better sound via a wired solution.
I'm tempted to try both methods, not much to lose.
For now I just have to wait and see the item description when its up and report back.
The problem is the head unit in some cars, such as mine, are built in and cannot actually be changed our it's a big job. I was still using my Nokia N8 for music duties untill last week as it has a transmitter built in, but I've just gotten a Belkin from Amazon and it's superb. Still has to be plugged into the cigarette lighter but I don't mind that.

If you're into a bit of soldering, I have successfully added aux into older cassette deck stereos and my DAB stereo clock radio.
Basically, you open up the head unit/radio, google the chip numbers, find a datasheet. Only one of them will be some kind of mixer/preamp/processing chip. Find the pins that are the input L/R and ground. Then solder a 3.5mm stereo lead in. Close it up, plug in your phone, hey presto, AUX in! And better than any FM transmitter.
On the cassette radio, I just wired in to the cassette audio input and disconnected the tape motors. On my clock radio, I added a 2 pole 2 way switch to toggle between the tuner input and my phone. Later I'll add a bluetooth input to get rid of the slight noise hum when my phone is charging.
I bought one,but broken one.

Which one?
Can you link it for us.
I got a response from another seller, and one from local. They won't be getting it.
Its been 6 days since I received the email from one seller who said they will get NOTE compatible models (hopefully 90mm wide, so NOTE with case can also fit).
So there's another 4 days until he will respond back to me with the link, and then probably a week or two until I can test it.
Getting excited!
I know you said you wouldnt be keeping this car long but imho you would be much better served changing your head unit to one with bluetooth. You can find used ones in great condition shipped on ebay for$100. Installation time is under an hour. Trust me its worth it. My head (eclipse cd5030) automatically connects to my phone as soon as i start the car. No wires, just press play. And also, it has a usb plug for charging it.

That's a good idea.
My options seem to be:
-FM transmitter/dock
-Change head unit for Bluetooth (break the overhead display and car cpu though)
-Change head unit for AUX in (break the overhead display and car cpu though)
-Install a low-powered/cheap amplifier with an AUX in.
Here's the inside of my car (though not so new, heh):
The head unit (ie CD slot and music controls) is located in the middle of the centre-console.
The actual display for it is displayed higher up on the centre-console.
The display is also wired into the car, if the engine runs out of power for a second, it locks and needs the password. Same thing if I jump start someone.
If I can install a new head-unit without stuffing up the relay going between the display and car cpu, I'd be all set... I wished I was more experienced in this field
Anyways, I've already decided on my next car, so I better start saving now:
I may be wrong buddy but i believe that your stock equipment is set up for an optional CD changer from the factory so there will be an option for an auxiliary input..
What you need to do is call an aftermarket car audio supplier and ask about a 3rd party wiring loom, more than likely they will have a plug in solution for it..

I agree with that,
Kangal,
Most of the car stereos have port to get AUX out behind. An audio shop can use this to get a 3.5 mm female port
A new quality brand like pioneer car stereo with aux on the front is about $45 NZ these days. Problem solved. And you never know your stereo may have line in in the back you could use.

I have the same problem as you.
My solution requires the following equipment :
1. Jabra SB600 car hands free
2. Original Samsung car dock for Note.
You basically pair your Note with Jabra via bluetooth and the Jabra transmits the audio via FM to your car radio. Simple, clean, no wire solution. Music and calls play via your car speakers and the Jabra's DSP does a fantastic job to cut out ambient noise in a moving car.
The sound quality is decent. Probably not the very best, but bearable. And more importantly, it gets the task done without any extra wires and stuff. Consider it a trade-off between ripping out / modding your car stereo and making no changes at all.
Though the Jabra's price may be a bit steep, it is a better bet if you consider it against replacing your stereo or spending the time (and taking the risk) on modding it.

I'm assuming that not a whole lot of people here are really into cars. I am really into modding my car and one aspect of that is audio. I love car audio and have a moderately nice system in my car. I can say that if you're looking for a good way to integrate your phone as your main source of media, then perhaps a new head unit would be a great upgrade for both your media and for your car.
Some people may be on a tight budget, and if so then the previously mentioned solutions may be the only options viable to you, but if you are willing to branch out and see what you can do with your ICE (in car entertainment), then you may find something that you might want to invest in.
So what are the options? You can use a wired fm transmitter, and as people have mentioned, you're dealing with wires and such. You also have wireless fm transmitters, which eliminates your wiring, and your results don't stray far from the wired transmitters in terms of sound quality. If you're willing to upgrade your headunit, then you have two options, single dins which is the base tier headunit. It has most, if not all, of the features your stock headunit has, and a few extras. If it is equipped with bluetooth, you can send/make calls from the headunit, but most single dins don't solve your audio needs in this way. What you want to look for is if it equipped with USB, so you can connect your phone via USB and play your music that way. Yes it does involve wiring, but there have been many ways to tie in a nice docking station for your phone to really make it appealing to many users. Double dins are almost always touchscreen type headunits and are a great way to upgrade your system. They have many more features that single dins will not have, such as GPS, movie viewing, etc. These types of headunits will follow single dins in that you will be wiring your phone via USB to source your music. I think there may be some double dins that are capable of bluetooth audio but I am not totally sure as mine does not have that feature as a 2011 model from Alpine.
W W W[dot]thebizzy[dot]com/technical_pages/thebizzy/audio/ipod2.jpg
Here is an example of how many users like to mount their phones/ipods/etc.
I will say that the benefit of a wired connection over a fm transmitted connection is that the sound quality is so much better. Music is much more crisp and clean with none of that distortion. Granted your overall sound quality will be determined by the quality of your speakers, but the differences from a USB connection and an fm transmitted connection are really noticeable.
So think about what your budget is and what you really want in your car audio system/integration. I went with a double din because the features are just spectacular. I do want to note though, that a headunit does not make your car system sound better, you need to upgrade your speakers, amps, subwoofers, etc. The main purpose for a new headunit is features. For me, I went with the double din because of benefits such as GPS, bluetooth (syncs my entire phonebook so I can just search for people whom I need to contact, shows recent call logs, auto answering for incoming calls), better interface when selecting music (it can utilize the entire interface of the ipod giving me access to movies, artists, playlists, genres, etc.), and overall ease of use.
So to conclude I'd recommend you find out what you want, and what your budget is, and start a project because my daily commute is worlds better than what it used to be because I made my upgrade happen. If you have any questions about ICE then feel free to ask.

Fully Wireless: The Wireless Charging and Wireless Car Galaxy S3

This is a personal setup for wireless charging and wireless car audio that I made over 7 months ago and have been using daily. So far as I know it works perfectly, sounds amazing, and is reliable.
Section 1: Wireless Charging
This section is a guide on using the Palm Pre/Pixi wireless charging method but it has two important distinctions from other methods. It doesn't create a bump or increase in thickness of the phone and it strongly holds onto the wireless charger stand via neodimium magnets.
Section Cost: $46
Materials Needed:
-Palm Wireless Charging Dock ($10)
-Palm Wireless Charging Circuit ($5)
-Neodimium Magnets ($15 tops)
-Galaxy S3 battery door (I used this one but you are free to use any non-metal one) ($8)
-USB Charging cable ($3)
-2 Amp Wall Charger or 2 amp car charger ($5)
-5-10cm of the thinnest wires you can find (Free)
-Soldering Iron
-Fine Sandpaper
Step 1: Preparing the back cover
The reason to get a new battery cover is because you will shave some of it on the inside in order for the circuit to fit without any noticable bumps on the phone. Since you want to have your original battery cover, get a cheapo battery cover you like (or another original one).
Using as fine a sandpaper as you can find, grind down the middle to lower section of the battery cover. It took me maybe 5-10 minutes of constant grinding to get the result I wanted. Grind as much as you desire but be careful not to break the battery cover or make it too thin.
Step 2: Prepare the Wireless Circuit
The wireless circuit used will come from the Palm Pixi/Pre battery cover you bought. See these videos on how to remove it and install it successfully:
VIDEO TO REMOVE THE WIRELESS CIRCUIT FROM PALM PRE/PIXI Charger (Watch from 4:20 onward)
VIDEO TO CONNECT WIRELESS CIRCUIT TO GALAXY S3
Note that I did this by soldering two very thin wires into the phone pads directly. Pictures below are from this being used and shown to a lot of people after 7 months. I did it really fast since this was on my second Galaxy S3, hence the sloppiness. It has worked perfectly though so I don't see a reason to change it:

}
Also, when putting the circuit into your back cover, use the new stronger magnets you got. They will allow the phone to stay onto the charger and not slide off, even while driving aggressively in a car. I used tape here because I didn't have anything else around me at the time but looking back at it now, I recommend superglue for the magnets. That way, they won't move anywhere over time.
Finished result is shown below:
Section 2: Wireless Car Setup
This builds upon Section 1 by utilizing the wireless charging setup and makes it play music wirelessly to any car equipped with an AUX/Headphone jack.
Cost: $105
Materials Needed:
-Samsung BHS3000 Bluetooth headset ($35)
-SoundShocker Pro (Needed for volume)($60)
-USB Charging cable and 2-amp car charger ($10) the galaxy s3 set up to wireless charging
-Tasker (Get on Google Play) ($10)
-A2DP Connect Tasker Pluggin
Step 1: BHS3000 preparation
Disconnect battery from Samsung BHS3000 Bluetooth Headset.
Open the BHS3000 (several clips hold it together, use your nails or a fine screwdriver to pull them apart) and disconnect it's battery. This is so that it will turn on and off with the car. Don't worry, all the bluetooth settings and pairings will be saved.
Step 2: Connections
Connect the SoundShocker Pro to your car's AUX jack. Connect the other side to the Samsung BHS3000's output (headphones). Power your car and pair the BHS3000 with your Galaxy S3.
Step 3: Automation
This is was the hardest part perhaps when I was coming up with the design. The problem was as follows. Turn on the bluetooth and connect to the car automatically when charging wirelessly in the car but DO NOT do it if charging wirelessly at home. The solution to this problem is outlined in my Tasker profiles. Please install A2DP Connect Tasker Pluggin I linked in materials. Then import the profiles into Tasker by long-pressing "Profiles" and then "Import".
You may need to change one of the profiles so that the mac address of your BHS3000 is set to your device and not mine.
Finished result:
Q&A
1. Why do you need the SoundShocker Pro?
By default, the Samsung BHS3000 Bluetooth player is not loud enough. It is about 60% the volume of the phone as compared to when the phone is plugged in directly to the car via AUX. The SoundShocker Pro fixes that by making the volume LOUD. Around 130% as loud as plugged in via AUX.
2. Do you need a special kind of neodimium magnets?
No, as long as the magnets are thin (around 1/32') and wide (1/4'), they should work. If you can find thinner and wider ones, it would be even better. However, the 1/32 by 1/4 work VERY well and hold the phone strong. In fact, only 2 of them hold the phone on the stand.
3. Does NFC work?
Yes.
4. How is sound quality?
In a word, excellent. I have a 400W RMS aftermarket system in my car and to me it sounds really good.
5. How quickly does the phone charge?
Not all that quick sadly. The charge is 500mah wirelessly. This allows you to keep the screen on and play music while driving with the phone charging slowly (1-2% every 10 minutes) but if you also want GPS, it will barely maintain the same battery level. I find that when fast charging, I simply plug the Palm dock power cable directly into the phone.
I just have to say that I also love ATB. Nice write up.
5 stars man!
looks badass!
I was thinking about your issue w/ pairing it, have you thought of NFC tags? you get in the car, tap the phone then pop it in to charge and while it does all that, it executes the job for you. (i know NFC Task Launcher by Tagstand also have a built in function to execute tasker commands as well)

Thanks for the awesome write up. I'm ordering everything to do this myself now =) going to hold off on the soundshocker until I have some extra cash, as it almost cuts the bill in half. How much of a difference does it make?
A lot sadly. I know it's expensive but I do think its important to have
You can have everything working without it, it just won't be very loud. It will be about 50% of full volume if you connect the phone straight to the car via AUX/Headphone jack and max the volume.
Well, it's will work for temp then. May just do the charging part first, then the bluetooth second. I saw a different bluetooth device the other day that uses 2 parts, one for the aux to your stereo, and a wireless thing for your steering wheel for next, previous, and pause. May pair that with this.
Thanks again for the guide.

One last question for you, does this still let NFC work? I know some wireless charging mods kill it, but this is by far the easiest mod I have seen.
NFC works.
Can you link me that device that has bluetooth steering wheel controls? I find that intriguing.
Mine has controls so I guess if I open the circuit and hook up those buttons to the steering wheel I will have the same functions but it's way too much work I figure haha. Also...in my case the phone is NEXT to my shifter and the car is a manual. My hand is always there so at least for me personally it's not a huge thing.
I'm still interested in how a device would connect (nicely) to steering wheel buttons so link me if you find it.

This may be a very very stupid question, does the phone still charge normally through the charging point aswell?
Yes. This has no negative effects of any kind on the phone. Everything that worked before will still work. The only change is the addition of wireless charging.
Sweet setup, going to try the same thing. The only addition I'm going to attempt is to add an nfc sticker to the car dock so when it touches to charge it loads my waze app.
Sent from my Rezound.
You may not even need the NFC sticker. See my Tasker script...it does exactly what you wanted without a need for NFC. Except that I load up PowerAmp instead.
I so want to do this because it is so cheap. Does it work with a slim case on the phone? I use the rock quicksand.

I can't say whether it will or not with the touchstone method, but using QI chargers it works fine. I'm using a reciever I purchased from FAST-TECH, and the Nokia Charging Plate DT-900 and it charges fine through either my Spigen Modello or Neo Hybrid. I'm sure there is some loss due to the added distance, but nothing you would really notice.
Did almost the exact same thing using the following Qi coil.

Review of LG Tone Ultra (HBS-800) Bluetooth stereo headset w/lots of pics!!!

This is a Review of LG Tone Ultra (HBS-800) Bluetooth stereo headset. http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phone-accessories/lg-HBS800
When it comes to wireless headphones, you can group them into 3 popular categories: one with a full size over-ear design heavily promoted by rap stars, the other intended for sport activities with little earbuds connected by a short cable, and the third one with around-the-neck wearing design. For a comfortable everyday use, you can probably cross the first two off your list because they are either too bulky and awkward to wear or hang loose around your neck when not in use. With the last one a lot of companies tried to come up with an ultimate solution, but only one succeeded with a design that has been recognized with multiple awards. LG Tone series took wireless headphone world by storm with their very popular HBS-700 and later follow up with HBS-730. In hope to continue this streak of success, LG introduced a new LG Tone Ultra under model HBS-800. I just had a chance to test, to review, and to compare it to HBS-730. Here is what I found.
LG Tone Ultra arrived in a very nicely packaged box with a clear full size image of the headset on the front and detailed functional description with specifications and additional features on the back. I actually did appreciate the functional description since it served a purpose of a quick start guide. You might ask why would I need one while being quite familiar with HBS-730? HBS-800 was not just a refresh similar to 700 -> 730 but actually a redesign with some significant changes. You still get the same memory flex neck band design, earbuds magnetically attached to the end ports of the neck band, and individual controls for supported functions, but HBS-800 has been refined to the next level with an updated distinct look.
Starting with around-the-neck flex band, now it features a better defined body contoured fit where it stays put even while you move around. Don't expect it to be "glued" to your shoulders as you jump up and down or do decline bench press, but as you quickly turn to the side it moves more in sync with your body. The top has been uncluttered by moving volume buttons down the Call side of the band, and song transport buttons down the Audio Playback side of the band. For a diehard fans of HBS-700/730 these changes probably going to take a little bit of time to get used to, but I found them to be an improvement in ergonomics because now you can control these buttons with your thumbs. The next big visible change was Call and Audio Playback buttons. What used to be a round generic button with a blinking light, which I found to be distracting on a few occasions, now is a beautifully crafted buttons in a shape of a phone handset and play/pause symbols. That really added a touch of class to the headset, and also made it convenient to distinguish button functionality by touch even in a dark. Another big change was an update to where you attach earbuds. Though it's still at the tip of the neck band, now it's completely covered from the top. I found this change to be both a step back and forward at the same time. This change makes it more difficult to "park" earbuds by simply bringing them close to the ends of the neck band like it was with 700/730. Now, you need more effort to make sure they are positioned correctly before attaching them. But the benefit is that design looks cleaner, and you don't have to worry about knocking them down by mistake. That was actually one of the minor issues I had with HBS-730 where half of the time I found earbuds hanging after I accidentally knock them down.
The light indicator also got relocated down to the inner side next to the power switch. I was very happy LG kept the physical power switch considering so many other headphone manufacturers prefer to consolidate multiple controls into multifunction buttons. Here, there is no confusion when headset is on or off which also controls pair up with your phone. To my surprise, closer examination of inner side of headphones revealed another power switch. As it turned out, HBS-800 added a new feature with active Ambient Noise Cancellation (ANC) functionality. Using a basic principle of sampling ambient noise and negating it with an inverse soundwave, this feature was cleverly implemented to work independent of headphone being on or off. This way you don't even need to turn your headset to pair up with your phone, and instead just turn the ANC control on to use HBS-800 as noise canceling earplugs - great for saving the battery. The same with power on, if you don't require ANC feature, which introduces a slight hissing background noise, you can turn it off and enjoy your music with a highest level of signal-to-noise ratio. Also to note, the charging power connector remained a standard micro-usb so you can use any of your phone/tablet charging cable. Or use the included high quality usb to micro-usb cable to charge your headset from any PC or external battery or wall charger. Full charging from zero shouldn't take more than 2 hours, and battery life remained stellar at 10+ hours.
Moving on, pair up with a phone was flawless and headset got connected to the phone and media audio within seconds with an audible confirmation. As with a previous models, HBS-800 supports all the major BT3.0 standards such as HSP, HFP, A2DP, and AVRCP. I also appreciate how turning the headset on tells you the battery status, which also can be accessed later by pressing volume button down. In addition, I tested multi-point connection where I paired up Note 2 and S5 without any issues. I was able to stream audio from my Note 2 while a call to S5 paused it and then resumed playing music after I was done with a call. This becomes very useful, for example, when you are streaming audio or watching video wirelessly connected to your tablet and can also pick up the call from your paired up phone without taking headphones off and manually pausing your tablet activities. Speaking of calls, I actually did some testing being outside in a wind, and everything sounded crystal clear on both ends of the connection.
And speaking of crystal clear, I'm saving the best for last. With a release of Tone Ultra, LG teamed up with JBL using their patented Harmon audio drivers. One thing a lot of people don't realize, you need to treat HBS-800 just like any other in-ear headphones, which means you have to start by selecting a proper eartip from the included selection of S/M/L pairs. The proper eartip fitment will make or break the sound. That is why I see so many people writing their comments about not noticing a sound difference between 730 and 800. Without a tight seal you will not be able to appreciate a new rich warm sound with a deep punchy bass and a clear detailed mids and highs. Don't get me wrong, these are not audiophile quality headphones, but with enhancement of new JBL audio drivers and support of aptX which reduces compression of wireless sound - these actually sound very good! By default HBS-800 is set to bass enhanced mode which can be changed to a more balanced/normal sound or treble enhanced sound. To me, the sound improvement was one of the main changes stepping up to HBS-800 model where I finally was able to enjoy some decent bass! And just like with 700/730 models, the separation of volume and song transport controls (to skip next/prev as well as rewind forward or back) enhanced the listening experience where unlike with some other wireless headsets you no longer have to remember to short or long press volume buttons in order to switch between volume and track control. Google NOW worked flawlessly as well.
Overall, while being a big fan and a long term user of HBS-730, I approached this review a little cautiously trying to figure out if the price premium of HBS-800 will justify choosing it over recently reduced in price HBS-730 model. After a closer look and continuous use over the weekend, I was able to fully justify that. The redesign with an improved ergonomics, including neck band shape and a more logical relocation and change of buttons, the addition of independently controlled ANC (though might not be necessary for some, a bonus for others), and the improvement in sound quality (as long as you choose a correct silicone eartips), made a significant enough improvement in overall decision to move from HBS-730 to HBS-800 which I'm planning to do. Without a doubt YMMV and for some creatures of habit not every change will be welcomed, but hopefully my review will be able to guide you if you are thinking about the upgrade or just looking to purchase your first set of LG Tones. Also, be careful when you are shopping around especially on Amazon where there is a number of look-a-like low quality knock offs.

Thanks. They are visible... but only the last couple of cm's.
Great review, thanks! I wasn't aware there was a new model available. I've been enjoying my HBS-730 for over a year now, and battery life is still great. Depending on price, I may look into an upgrade. You mentioned multipoint connect, does the 730 have this capability as well?

Don't remember if I tested it, but I remember someone replying in my 730 review about having issues with it. On 800 it works flawlessly. Like I said, very useful when you are watching movies or playing music on a tablet while still connected to your phone so you don't miss a call.

Thanks for the reply. I'm gonna have to pull out the manual and see because I know it doesn't work "out of the box" but I recall reading that in the feature list when I bought it.

Hi. I have the same problem, bought the headset in Korea. It speaks Korean also the manual is in Korean language.Could anyone help to send me English manual or advise me where to downlod from? Thanks a lot.
Maybe I will try to take pictures of a few important manual pages and posted in here. I actually remember there was a quick start guide, that should be usefull. Just wondering since it's in your native language, why can't you understand it?
Does anyone know if there is a way to change the language on voice in the headset ? I got a pair, but unfortunately it speaks in a language I do not understand..
Much thanks
The sound is very low compared to HBS-730
Hi guys,
I was very excited when they launched the hbs-800, because even use the hbs-730 two years ago.
I'm testing two weeks ago, the sound is much lower, and even using the Viper4android. The bass is almost nonexistent.
You guys had the same feeling?

Sound is as loud as it was before. Keep in mind, you control volume both from headset and from the phone. Regarding bass, sounds like you are not getting a good seal with included eartips. Do you have another eartips to try? That's a secret for a great bass, tight eartip seal!

Hi buddy,
The first thing I do is test the earbuds, and have also tested it with others. I'm a user of phones from Motorola and LG. I thought my S9-HD spectacular, was disappointed with the S10-HD, and the only good thing in the S11-HD is the charge of 5 min. Bought the HSB-800 model just for finding an upgrade of 730. I read the review of this topic and decided to buy. I very disappointed with this headphone. I have three: S11-HD, HBS-730 and the HBS-800. I'm tired of auditioning, and I can no similar quality with the 730.
You got to see this release?

Hmm, HBS-900 looks very cool! Tried searching for availability, don't see it released yet. Will be on look out!
With 730 vs 800, I honestly prefer 800 sound but for me 730 controls make more sense. Maybe because I'm used to it. For office or more professional place, 800 look slicker with out of sight controls and better hidden earbuds when not in use. But for outdoors when I'm in our backyard or just around the house, 730 work well. But the sound, especially when it comes to bass - 800 wins that one! But I had to use my other eartips to get a better seal for low frequencies.

Uh, so this is international release for now, not in US yet. My LG review samples come from LG US, so I might have to wait until it's available in the States. One thing I'm not too crazy about is that self-retracting wire mechanism. It's a great idea for wires not to hang down, very clean, but that type of mechanism usually doesn't last for too long. I guess, will see...
Connecting the HBS-800 to a PC
I've just got the HBS-800 and testing it out. I have an issue though. Is it possible to connect the HBS-800 to a PC through Bluetooth. Considering the PC as a second device or second handset.?
Thanks.

Are you asking if you can pair up PC and Smartphone at the same time to a single HBS-800 headset? Since you can pair up HBS-800 with two different smartphones, I don't see why not, as long as your PC has Bluetooth 4.0. Personally I never tried it since I have old laptops.

Teah thats right. I've successfully paired the headset with the PC but it was not used as the default output for sound. So after pairing, playing songs or video still used the speaker of the PC, which is not cool

Honda HR-V Dasaita HA5248-V480-8 Android Head Unit impressions

I was not sure where to post this because I kindof hijacked the Honda Connect Android thread with alternative solutions so I decided to create a new thread here as it seems more apropriate. I hope this will help others decide on an aftermarket unit that suit their needs.
The unit I bought and pictures with comments.
01.11.2018
I forgot to mention, there are no issues with porlarized sunglasses (vision impaired like I have, or regular). Usually LCD screens are polarized so if you have polarized glasses you only see the full display colors and brightness at a fixed angle 0 or 90 degrees (head straight or tilted to one side). This unit does not suffer from this issue like older phones did. (after posting I noticed I did mention this in my previous note )
28.10.2018
I'm really happy with the unit:
- response time is as fast as you expect it to be (as in touch - do stuff vs. click - you got it, hold on it's comming, almost there, just keep spinning windows/macos stuff)
- display is bright/direct sunlight, polarized sunglasses not an issue
- you can disable most of the inputs that source (steerwheel button) cycles through, except of A/V in (which I think is the LaneWatch camera)
- switching between radio, music, Waze and other apps is instant
- Waze only crashed once during a 450km ride, in the same area it crashes on my phone as well ... really Google ?
In the end I guess it's all about personal prefference about the preinstalled software which you can replace with apps from play store (or other sources) to your liking, so I'm not gonna comment on that as most of the defaults are fine for me it's fine. There are however a vew caveats to consider:
- Since I don't use my google account and created a new one for the unit I don't have access to my contacts. Altho the unit syncs your contacts via bluetooth to the phone app, 'OK Google' cannot use that.
- The default phone app does not have any favourites options, so your best bet is to use the last recent calls. But that list is not synced with your phone, it's only the list from when your phone was connected with the car (tried MTCDTelephonyBridge, did not work).
- There are some volume issues which I could not figure out (yet ). Navigation volume is set on MIXIN and has a range from -10 to + 10. At first I had it on -5, it was very low, then I moved to +7, fine for a while until it became too loud, lowerd to +5 and it was very low, bumped it again to +7 and it was the same low. I wish they would do the 'smart' thing like the original HU and just output navigation to front left speaker (that's the only clever thing I noticed in the decade old default Honda unit)
- Only one screw can be used to fix the unit, the original ones don't fit as they have huge integrated washers. You don't really need to fix it as it won't go anywhere but still, worth mentioning. Also I wanted to insulate all the cables with the same kind of foam that you find around air conditioning pipes, so that the cables don't touch the back plate of the unit. After taking the dashboard off again, I realized there is a ton of space there so the cables will not touch the back of the unit holding the radiator, which anyway is just for the TDA amp, so there was no reason to. If you go for a 2din unit, extra space will be smaller but still plenty of room on the bottom part.

A few notes of my initial experience after installing the new unit:
1. First and most important for me, the 2 USB ports of the car have different connectors (mindblown). They look the same, but one of them has a different gap (or slit, not sure of the exact word) in one of the corners as you can see in this picture. The adapter provided only fits the gray connector. I'm not sure if the 2nd adapter that I ordered will fit the green one or not (maybe with some tunning it will fit). Now, it's not that important for everyone as you can still very easy pull the 2 other USB ports in the glove compartment (which I did), but now I have 2 unused slots: USB and HDMI.
2. For OCD types, the unit I got has a 9" screen (instead of 8" as described) so the frame that holds the part of the dashboard that you need to remove in order to install the HU stands on top of the screen covering the right part of the screen bezel and the 2nd mic instead of being around the screen (I hope that makes sense). The front pannel itself (bezels included) is a bit larger than the hole in the dashboard. This results in the actual screen being buried about 1cm below the dashboard line (about 5mm more than the original one). This interfeers a bit with the access to the 'hardware' buttons on the left side, but as a driver you don't need them as you can do all that from the steering wheel controlls. One side benefit could be that there is less sunlight hitting the screen. I will update with daytime pictures.
3. There are only 2 screws that can fix the new unit, but the original ones don't fit because of the embeded washers (which can not be removed from the screws ... why ????). The unit will not go anyware thanks to the fitting holes and the dashboard being linked with frame I mentioned before. I will still go look for some replacement screws, just in case.
4. Time for the good part. The difference between the original unit and this one ... day and night. Everithing is so fast and works as it's supposed to. Even the cold boot seems faster (20s or so) than the hot start of the original unit. I still have to test the ergonomics while driving and the long term stability of the whole system, but the first impressions are very positive. You would still have to configure a few things here and there to match you preferences or missing features (like proportion between navigation and music and sound level for different sources - like music and bluetooth, missing lane watch camera - which defaults to on and when you signal right unit will show a warning because of missing camera signal, direction lines when using the reverse camera - which are off by default etc.). There are a ton of options to configure. Plus you get some extra stuff like status of open doors, status of parking sensors, AC feedback (it also has an app for control but does not seem to do anything, I will dig deeper at some point but I don't find it that usefull, still cool tho), automatic door locking when you pass a set speed limit (I have not tested this yet), and probably some others which I am eager to discover.
I will update this post to share my experience with the new unit.

@ kind3r: bought one for my CRV also.. got the same issue with those 3 connections I think its the 2 usb & 1 hdmi connection in the console box of our car. I'm currently looking for a solution for the AC control, and IMID display setting for the steering wheel. I haven't really tinkered with the setting so maybe its just setting or connection issue. At the Dasaita Official Store they sell it as a 9" unit.
At the MTKNAVI Store they sell the "same" units.
Main advantage of MTKNAVI store: they ship from EU/Germany. Means no trouble about custom and taxes.

I think it's just so that they only fit one way so service people don't reverse them. Both did the same charging and connection, mirrorlink etc. so I can't really tell if there is actually a difference between them.
The only way I see a connection with the IMID display (mine is next to the speedometer) is via the canbus. I think that traffic is encrypted tho because I saw no mention about it anywhere so far. I'm not even sure if you can set the clock. I will do some more research on the subject.

Yes, all wheel buttons work but some with different functions. Hangup button also works as back, source switches between a lot of (some useless for me) apps like the ones for AV inputs but the navigation app is not included (I wish you could set a list of apps to cycle through), the task switcher that used to switch between nav, audio and phone now is the home button, the shortcut button acts as the old android menu button and the voice command does mute. There is no long press 2nd function except for left and right in radio app. I guess installing MTCDTools could improve the situation but I'm ok with the standard config.

I use a phone that sits in the truck for internet via WiFi, no issues so far. For bluetooth/handsfree I use an iPhone, sound quaility is very good both ways, way better than the stock one. Time will tell.
I'm not sure what you mean by internal speaker. It uses the car sound system and speakers and I also connected the external mic that came with the unit and placed it close to the ignition button.

Yeah, the taxes thing was a big advantage for me as they usually ship with DHL so you have to pay custom tax and also DHL tax for handling custom tax for you. My unit was shipped from UK, still EU for the next 6 month or so . Also I initially wrote to Dasaita Official Store and I still have not got a reply. MTKNAVI replied within a few hours.

The only way I see a connection with the IMID display (mine is next to the speedometer) is via the canbus. I think that traffic is encrypted tho because I saw no mention about it anywhere so far. I'm not even sure if you can set the clock. I will do some more research on the subject.
My unit has an AC app, but it does not control anything. I will dig into that as well, tho I don't find it useful.

Hello, For the bluetooth connection, did you use the built-in microphone of the car? if so, Did you add an adapter to operate the integrated microphone of the car?

You can see it in this picture on the left side (near the speedometer): https://photos.google.com/share/AF1...?key=cy04WUVYY3RrYTBYSXM0Q1RjSFEzd2RNM1h1ZEd3
Also you can see it in the description of the Dasaita unit at Aliexpress.

Using adapter cables. So one can use the inbuilt microphone and GPS module. We just have to find the correct cables via ebay, Aliexpress...
@kind3r
did you found a connector at the Dasaita harness with 12pin (instead of 14pin at EU version of Connect unit)? That must be connector D in the attached file. Found this info in a german HRV forum. He didn't use this connector (no problems so far).

Wow, nice find. I was actually looking for that before buying a unit but could not find any schematics.
The back pannel arrangement of the connectors is not similar to my original unit see a picture of the back of mine here, but connectors seem to be more or less the same. Now, not all the connectors on the car have a corespondend on the harness and viceversa. The connector you are reffering to must be the Sirius XM receiver (? satelite radio) which as far as I know is not available in EU. Also, the USB connectors look the same in your document but in my case they are a bit different by just a small notch. What is the functionality you are interested in so I can tell you if it works for me or not.
On a side note, I have tested the unit during the last few days using the auto sleep feature, witch does not do a shutdown + cold boot so the unit starts in 1-2 seconds after you start the car. There is still a small delay after that when you get notifications about the SD card and USB stick that are being mounted so that's another 2-3 seconds until playback resumes, so it's still faster than the cold boot which takes around 25 seconds. But as android tends to be like windows on the long term, I will stick with the cold boot 'mode'.
As @HNDXCRV and others mentioned, I could not find a way to set the clock on the factory display. But as DST changed in my country, with a big bang I might add (earthquake during the night, could not sleep after that :/) to my surprise the car's clock changed as well. So I guess there is some communication from the HU, at least for time. My guess is playing in Factory Settings could result in AC being controlled from the unit as well. But I don't really see the point in doing that since dedicated hardware buttons are better than touching a display.
Some were concerned about the performance of the display in direct sunlight. Today was a sunny day, I took a trip to the seaside and I can tell you I had no issues looking at the display with my polarised sunglases on. Also the angle of the polarisation did not seem to matter as tilting my head did not do anything to the brightness level or colors, so kudos for that, it's a really nice display. At some point I was looking through the settings and realized it was only at 75% brightness.
Overall I really love this unit. Of course it's not perfect and there is some room for improvement here and there, but there are no words to describe the difference of (first and foremost for me) performance, sound quality, level of customization, size and quality of the display. Most of the small things that bother me are due to software ergonomics say like the radio app having a dedicated button for stereo lock, instead of something more useful (not that anything comes to mind right now). You have to customize a bit to your liking, I have uninstalled/disabled apps that cycle via the source button on the steering wheel, changed the volumes of navigation, radio, music, a2dp etc. to my personal preference. Also there are a ton of replacement apps for the stock ones, play store is full of choices if you have enough time to try them out, like launchers, dialers, music apps etc.
I still have to update to the latest Android version (unit came with 20180809, latest is 20181011, but with newer MCU 2.98_1) but since there is no reason to, I will hold off for the moment. I am tempted to do a full reset of the unit as there are some leftovers from the seller testing the unit like paierd phones etc. (not that it matters too much).
@kind3r
thanks a lot for your infos. Seems like this device is really worth it. I can not decide yet.
What I like to do if...
connect the original GPS (via adapter, found in ebay)
connect the original microphone (via adapter, not found yet)
Questions:
the radio has RDS fully working (channel names, radio text, traffic TP/TA) ?
is the Dasaita usable without internet connection (only radio or mp3) or does it throw error messages?
does "Ok Google" work? Or do we need the MtcDialer
Because of updates: maybe it's best to do it at the beginning.
For the GPS adaptor it will still take around 2 weeks to get to me so I can post some feedback about it.
I could not find any reference in the connectors for the integrated mic. I'm not sure if an adapter exists. At first I thought this will bother me but it tursn out it's not really that big of a deal. Sound quality is way better than with the original mic/HU combination.
RDS is working but unfortunatelly I cannot test traffic as it is not available in my country. The radio app has switches to enable disable TA and TP but since there is no broadcast for that ... they don't do anything for me.
It should not throw errors without an internet connection but for me the whole point was to use it with Waze for the realtime traffic information. There is a version of iGO preinstalled with Europe maps on an 8G SD card. I will probably buy a bigger card that can fit the iGO maps and music so I have an offline navigation as a backup just in case.
'OK Google' is working but unfortunatelly I think it uses the contacts from the google account and does not use the contacts synced via bluetooth from the paired phone. Since I created a new account for the car I don't have any contacts but I will add some just to test. MTCDialer did not work for me, it always crashes on launch.
