Hey everybody its Cardi Lyone here with a pondering question for all you super developers. i recently bought an SD card off of ebay that was a 32gb for my htc evo. granted it came from china so i got it for round 10 bucks but thats not the problem. the card DOES WORK AND read at 32gbs when entered in the phone and threw my laptop; but when i try to copy everything on my stock card to that card everything usually everything reads apps ect, but my music and pictures. i have no idea whats going on thought it was kinda weird. looking for a little feedback before i go out and spend good knows how much for another 32 gb card. thanks for reading and helping.
Hmmm....I don't have any idea, but did you try reformatting it as FAT32? Sorry, that's all I could think of.
The sd card is a fraud. Its not really 32 gigs.

sd cards can be hacked so they say they hold so much data but what it does is just keep writing over the same blocks. There are programs to test the actual size try... h2testw... google it, its a free program it takes awhile since it tries to read and write the the full amount of the card to see its real capacity. my guess is that you have a 512mb card hacked to say 32gb... sorry man
i was figuring so, guess i didnt want to think it was true. but thanks for all your help on the matter. if anyone has a 16 or higher laying around leave me message maybe we could work something out!
i just got a new sd card switch to a 32g but for some reason when i try to put ALL my fav tunes on there it always seems to screw up and not copy most of them...what am i doing wrong i know i have enough space..
Maybe try putting the songs in small portions if you have a lot.. other than that I don't know, bro.

Did you try formatting the card? Where did you buy it? I have heard many many many times that ebay is infiltrated with fraud 32gb cards. They are really 4 or 8gb or something like that. When you mount the card in your computer or phone, what does it show the total size as?
it shows the right amount...
Fraud cards still show the "right" amount as far as I know. Dunno if they do in the phone though

I agree that it could be a fake card. Where did you buy it from and how much did you pay?

mobile shack, about $30
$30 for a 32 gig definitely sounds fishy.

You have been EVOfied.
You can test your card's real capacity with a utility like h2test, which will write files until it's full and then verify them. Though you've basically already verified it...if it consistently stops writing files at a certain capacity, that's probably the true capacity of the card. As others have said, if you bought it from ebay, it's common.

Don't let the German scare you. It supports English.
Just went through this with a Wintec card bought from Fry's. Here's what will happen with your card, too:
Code:
while (patience == good)
{
Card will spontaneously corrupt data;
Reformat card;
Restore data from back (you do have a backup, right?);
}
beat card into powder with a ball-peen hammer;
I spent $119 for my card and this happened. Return it if you can.

I used to get corrupted stuff too. What I did that stopped it for me was put a thick piece of paper on top of the card and into the slot. When the battery was on top of the card, out would keep it from moving. I suspected the card and phone contacts weren't staying firmly set. If a write cycle happened when the connection was intermittent, corrupt files and or file allocation table.
Is the microSD card in the Evo when you transfer all that stuff to it? If so, it might be worth a shot to take it out and just use a standalone card reader or USB adapter to hook it up to your computer and then transfer that way. No idea if it would make a difference, but just another thing you can try.

so the question is
does the galaxy nexus have a micro SD card slot?
edit: just checked their site
http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/...dex.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=specification
if you look at the tech specs it says it has SD card support
Nope no SD card on it
Pretty sure those specs are specifically for the international version. The VZW version doesn't have expandable memory.

I LOVE having an SD slot. I am able to transfer files (pics, ROMS, etc) from my computer to phone and visa versa. Personally I would never buy a phone without one.

You can do that on phones without SD slots...it is called USB mass storage, which coincidentally is disabled by ice cream sandwich.
In my experience, especially dealing with verizon, I'd better have an SD slot, because the phone WILL fail and require a replacement and the last thing I need is a bricked phone that I can't recover my files from.
So, I was holding our for the Nexus but now I need to figure out my next device real soon...

No it does not a micro SD Card Slot...... if that makes you uncomfortable ... then do not get one. But, for most this is totally a non issue
I used the phone it is beyond excellent....... its feel is way better than an iphart 4gs
It really is a major step up...........
Its sad... I guess because of the NFC

Why are you blaming Verizon, or hardware issues for something that could happen that would be entirely your fault? (not backing up your own info)
So, the Galaxy Nexus doesn't have an SD slot. Is it Google?
What I mean is, my understanding of the Nexus S was that it was essentially Google's specs and design and Samsung made it, but they wanted to have their own phone with all their crapware on the market, so the basically made the exact same hardware in a different case and filled it full of Touchwiz. But the Galaxy S had an SD slot!
So is the no SD slot something Google have decided for security/aesthetic reasons, or is just a technical thing and they decided the phone could live without?
I never fire up my laptop anymore so backing up my files would be a problem.
If I wanted to be hooked to a laptop to backup I'd get an iPhone.

I hardly ever remove sd card from the phone and to be honest unless you store loads of music/videos 16GB of build in memory is way more than I need...
I got GN on VZW, unfortunately no SD card, which would typically annoy me, but with Google Music/Spotify, Calandar, Gmail, Contacts, G+/Picasa Web, and Dropbox (which can be used to transfer files too) there really is no need to worry about having to back up/transfer or need more storage anymore.
No slot=no sale.... Why would they make that decision. Unless the phone had 32gb internal.
No expandable memory? WTF, thought only Apple did that.
nope, no memory slot. That's why Galaxy 2 is a better phone. Just my .02
cloud services and managing your drive space should help keep it from filling too fast, it is terrible that they didn't include the sdcard slot option
Nope it doesnt. It has a virtual SD card. To store Apps + Data. But thts bout it
For the longest time, I have been unable to use my 128GB Sandisk MicroSD card properly with my GN4. I have tried SD card fixes, foldermount, and messed with the platform.xml file as well. What I used to do back in the days of ICS/Pre KitKat 4.4.4 was take the SD card and plug it into my computer (via SD card adapter) and transfer the files I needed directly since it takes a while longer if I connected the phone to the computer. I can still transfer files to the microSD card if I plug it in, but they are not able to be read. This is starting to piss me off as I have a lot of music that I would like to store on the card. Anyone have anything else they can suggest?
I used foldermount last week - Some of the music files work properly, while some don't play and I get the message "unable to play this file."
I bought this card brand new and I'm hoping it's not "a bad card"

I also use a 128gb Sandisk Card, the "ultra" I believe. I never had a problem with it, I just came from the Note 3 and put it in the Note 4 with no issues. Is yours the "Ultra" also?
Maybe a bad card. I got 3 fake ones on eBay before I got a real one. I flipped out on the sellers and reported them. Each time I got a bad one I spent hrs copying data over to the 128. I would copy over around 20 gb, and another 20 and so on. When I went to look at the files that I had first put on there they would be gone. There are programs u can download for free. Just Google how to tell if sd card is fake. A fake card is really a 2/4/8/16/32 card changed to look and act like a 128 and once it hits it's limit that u don't know what that is, the earlier data that was put on the card, disappears.
Here is a link for a program I used:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730285
This happened to me back in Oct/Nov when note 4 was launched. I ended up paying $120 on eBay for SanDisk's highest r/w 128 gb card.
The first seller claimed he didn't know they were fake and promised to stop selling them if I retracted my bad feedback as it was the only bad feedback he had ever received. Once I saw they were removed from his selling list I retracted the feedback. The second and third sellers I was not nice to, did not even have to send them back the pos card. My response was something like refund my ****ing money now for selling me this fake ****ing sd card. Ten minutes later both had gave me my money back. Assholes. After I got a good one I had contacted the first seller again and explained how much trouble I had and the scam artists there are on eBay. I feel that he was genuinely sorry and had no idea. He also stopped doing business with who he was getting the fake cards.
This good card has been great, note 4 32 gb internal, 128 external, both full, zero problems.
Plug it into your computer and check if it's formatted correctly (fat32 vs NTFS). That might solve the problem. Don't quote me, but I think it needs fat32.

Yes it does need to be fat 32.
Also if is fake, u might format it, move data, insert in phone, and it says it's not readable and needs to be formatted.
Yes mine is the ultra version as well (in red letters on the micro sd card)

the two options are exFAT and NTFS. I formatted on exFAT and it seemed to be working just fine until today.
So I use my sd card as direct storage for when pictures are taken. I was at dinner today and took pictures of the food we ate. All of a sudden when I go to the Gallery, I see a black and grey image with an exclamation point for the pictures taken at dinner with the exception of one. I am wondering whether Samsung/Google is releasing updates that put the phone back into the main issue of not being able to R/W to the external sd card? I don't know what else could be the reason. I also tested the card to make sure it wasn't fake. SO DAMN FRUSTRATING!
Shouldn't have to format it. Already exfat when it comes. If it's real, contact sandisk with pictures of the card and it's serial number and a copy of the receipt. They will replace it.
Hello,
I have made some photos directly saved on my SD card. After a wile it is nomore posible to display them. I only get a grey square with an exclamation mark.
My SD Card is an PNY 256 GB High Performance Class 3 (normally 30 Mo/s).
Photos are no longer recognized by the different PC sofware and are no longer reparable.
Do somebody have the same problem?
I have seen this problem before, with kingston and sandisk cards, in your case most surely it is the same thing, try with another card to check
You could check with PNY if they offer some sort of recovery/check. If you see it as a drive on your PC you can run "checkdisk" for errors. Sometimes I use MiniTool Partition Wizard Free to run "surface test" on problematic SDs, though 256GB card will take a long time for that program to ping every cluster.
I have a samsung 64gb sd card and have no problems with mine I think its because of the 3 back the card up and put back on and see if happens I bought a 256gb of wish before got refund on it but the right speed to it was so slow and after a while it lost pictures and so on
I have tested the card with chkdsk and there is no problem!
Tested with H2testw an got a different answer; first the speed is not that given on the markin (appr. 10Mo/s instead of 30 Mo/s) and after 14,9 Go tested, it says that the rest is defective.
I surely got one of the "best quality" chineese copy.

I've noticed that I get corrupted pictures on SD card only after a few days of passing through an airport. I am led to believe that it's due to the X-Ray scanning they do which could damage some sectors of the SD card. If you want to continue to use SD, I'd recommend spending the extra bit to get a genuine card that is hardened against X-Ray/other scanning methods.
I've personally moved on to cloud backups; currently using my Office 365 subscription that gives me 1TB of OneDrive storage. Also allows for 5 other users each with their own access to the Office suite and 1TB of OneDrive storage each.
Hope that helps!
Make sure your card is authentic.. on internet you find many scam SD cards cheap and their memory is not what your device tells you. It looks like it records but after a while it deletes previous files like older photos... because its real memory is like for example 1GB instead of 64...
Buy them premium on trusted shops (careful with amazon for example).
Corrupted card. Highly unlikely the card is bad.
Corrupted cards will however behave like this.
Do a low level format with a PC apk designed to do this like Lexar's. It will tell you if any unremappable sectors exist and remap them if doable.
Do Not use Windows to low level format.
Do Not switch cards between devices particularly cams without formatting first in cam before using. Switching cards with data on them can corrupt them.
Same may apply to phones...
Make sure contacts are clean. Never touch with fingers.
ALWAYS protect cards from ESD; if you can feel a static discharge it's already enough to fry SD cards and sims.
The pesky grey thumbnails, yep I got that also, it started around the same time as when these threads were created using other Samsung mobile devices. coincidence? I think not. My SD Card is Samsung bought from Samsung website direct so no chance of fake.

There can only be one folder on the Android who's name has DCIM in it. If there's more than one it will cause mayhem... on the SD card if you copy images from the internal memory DCIM folder rename the new folder something different!

I should clarify, those greyed out thumbnails were visible before and location wasn't changed on the SD card. Only things that changed were inserting the same SD card into another device.

Yeah that's generally not a good idea. It can corrupt the card especially if the two devices are writing to it. Had it happen to me before with Canon cams; you don't share a card unless you cam format it first. Not sure of the exact cause only how to prevent it.
That hasn't happen with my N10+ twins, yet, maybe because they're the same model. Something I need to keep in mind...

Good point.
That maybe it; I recently accidentally did a swap without a dismount without incident but did power the phone off first.
OTG has spoiled me
I need to be more careful...
Generally it's best to leave the SD card in place and do everything through the phone instead.
On Canon cams there's no dismount option I believe, plug and play.

Got the Note 10 plus today. Pretty impressed, almost like new condition coming from Samsung, all plastic films intact on sides and front back etc. Even the imei is etched in the back glass. Definitely a new frame and oledpanel used during the their refurbished process. However to nit pick one small area of the back glass edge to frame gap is bigger near the camera lens side. That was me inspecting it with a light and magnification lol.
The OLED panel is crisp and uniform. Very pleased so far.

Not sure what the gap is; it should be sealed with a custom cut double side adhesive seal. Should be uniform. I'll take a look at my copies closer next week...
