How do you stop a folder from being seen by android - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

What I wanna do is make a single backup folder, then have stuff like ringtones, notifications, alarms, and pics under that folder.
What I want to prevent is ringtones and pics from being seen twice by the system. So I wouldn't say see a ringtone called ring1 twice when picking a ringtone, and I wouldn't see a pic1 twice in gallery.
I know you can put a .nomedia in the folder you want to hide from the system, but can you do it in a single folder and it keeps sub folders also from being seen?
Example:
Backup/
/ringtones
/notifications
/alarms
/pics
/apps
This is just a small example, but if I put a .nomedia under backup root, will that then hide ringtones, notifications, alarms, and pics with the single .nomedia file?
End result would be:
Backup/.nomedia (file)
/ringtones
/notifications
/alarms
/pics
Will that work, or do I need a .nomedia in each folder?

Ringtones and alerts

Hi,
I've put a heap of ringtones and alerts into the My Ringtones folder in My Document.
However, they only appear in the list for ringtones, not for anything else.
I know, I know, the folder is called Ringtones, but if WM6 won't look there for alerts, where should I put my own alert sound files so they are found?

put them in the Windows directory of your device.
In addition to Windows folder, there are several locations in which to place your media files for WM to use as alerts. I usually place them in the root directory of the Storage Card, e.g.,
\Storage card\Filename.MP3

MP3 files for alarms and SMS tones...

Can I use MP3s for alarms and SMS tones.
I thought these kind of features where standard on modern smart phones?
Or is there an app for that
i think theres a special app for that i have seen it somewhere on the cyrket website

Have you tried setting it as a ringtone within the music app? Then from there you might be able to choose it in the alarms and notifications?
make a folder on your SD card (the root of it) called "Notifications" and "Ringtones" then copy your ringtones into one and notifications (SMS and Alarms) into the other. Then they appear in the menus. I had to google about to find this myself!
Alternatively you can set it through the music application!
You need to create specific folders on the SD. I have alarms on the SD root for my alarm tone and notifications for my message tone!

That is how I have it setup so I only have one folder in the sdcard root for all of my alarms, notifications and ringtones.
Mine are set as...
/sdcard
/sdcard/Media
/sdcard/Notifications
/sdcard/Ringtones
/sdcard/Alarms

Why can't they make things simple these days
SOrry to jump in, but cant someone just run over what i may be doing wrong.
On my SD Card i have the following folder setup :
sdcard/
sdcard/media
sdcard/media/audio
sdcard/media/notifications
sdcard/media/alarms
sdcard/media/ringtones
and within the notifications folder i have put an MP3.
BUT it doesnt show up in SETTINGS > SOUND & DISPLAY > NOTIFICATION SOUND
Nor does it show up in ChompSMS or SMSPopup.
I have alos tried to create the folders in the root, with no luck.
I know im beign blind, what am i missing.

Have you tried with a different audio file?
Just download 'Ringdroid' from the marketplace and you can edit your mp3's in the fly and gives you the option to save as tone/notification etc..
OK, sorted it.
The file will only show up if i put ".mp3" at the end of the file, otherwise it doesnt show up.

I had some problems but at last it is working with the format

sdcard/media/ringtones
I noticed there was a similar layout in the phone's ROM
system/
system/media
system/media/audio
system/media/notifications
system/media/alarms
system/media/ringtones
system/media/ui
There was some Facebook mp4 file in that ringtones folder.

Problem with notification and ringtones in my media folder

I know that you can place MP3s in the respective folders for notifications and ringtones. There are some sounds that I like to use for both ringtones and notifications, but don't want them to be copied into both folders. It seems like there would be a less space wasting method to do it?

This is a really simple one.
Can I paste a ring tone or an alert (mp3) into the phone or SD card memory and then select it?
I tried but the phone doesn't find the file - where do I need to put it?

people say to create a folder called media on your sd card with sub folders called ringtones, alarms, etc so you can do that

Ringtones folder mixed with music?

Hello everyone,
I am wondering if you all have the same issue as I do.
I have my music in "Music" folder, and my ringtones set in "Ringtones" folder, but when I want to set a local ringtone, I can see ALL my music and ringtones shown together in one huge never ending list due to amount of music present on my phone.
Is there a way to display only ringtones set in "Ringtones" folder?
