Better explaination of Ubuntu OS and how it relates to us.
Ubuntu OS currently run on top of an Android "shell". The android layer contains the boot.img(kernel/ramdisk), initd, vendor specific drivers etc.. This is what first boots then the ubuntu file system is loaded within this Android "shell". This is why we need flash two zips to have it working(Android and Ubuntu). Ubuntu uses CM10.1 repos for the Android shell portion of the OS. This still works for us as we had official cm 10.1, though development wasn't long lived before moving to 10.2.
There is an AOSP 4.4.2 branch Ubuntu is working on to maybe replace the CM based Android component, but it is currently less stable than the CM based. Hopefully the AOSP branch becomes more stable in the near future as the development for our device is active there.

I don't know if this thread is helpful for you, or maybe you've alreay seen it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2587823
i tried it and it booted successful on my geehrc. Wifi worked, also keyboard and i could add an account too. Phone/SMS didn't work due no signal. The keyboard had also one severe bug: In the terminal the enter key didn't work.
It's worth a try, you can easily remove it, you just have to reflash your recovery ( in my case TWRP ).
New update. Running ALOT smoother.
The ubuntu zip is a nightly offered through ubuntu so you can always re download that at any point and flash overtop current installation to get the latest. It's a large file so I usually get it weekly...

Its not for sprint yet.....I'll work on that this weekend hopefully.
The geeb.zip is needed because of how Ubuntu touch works. Its currently using a mako device tree that has been converted to flash on my e973, the at&t is pretty much the exact same which is why it works for them.
First you flash a cm10.1 based Ubuntu tweaked android sysyem-- geeb.zip
Second is the Ubuntu rootfs that goes atop the android base-- Ubuntu zip
I'm totally jacked to try this. I've downloaded each file twice and tried to get this running. Thing is that the md5s are different for each file. I tried all 4 combinations and let them try to boot for 30 mins each. I must be getting bad downloads lol
Long story short: I would be super grateful for some md5s, if you get a chance

Seems like this is starting to happen to more people..... wondering if ubuntu zip got changed causing it not to boot. I'll try to get a booting copy up today
EDIT:
I downloaded everything myself to try and con confirm it is currently not booting. Ubuntu has changed something that has broke our display. If you reboot the phone you can turn the screen on an off with the power button. I'll hopefully fix this this weekend.. though it's a busy one for me already. See what I can do

This weekend ended up being a write off for me so I'll have to see when I can get to making a new working zip, or maybe its an issue from ubuntu end they'll resolve.
Did anyone that tried this and had it boot happen to still have the trusty-preinstalled zip they used? If someone has one from 8th or earlier it should boot... i unfortunatly don't have an earlier build then the 13th... you can still download the 12th and up from the ubuntu phablet site... not sure if that pre-dates the issue or not.
Edit: I havn't tried the 13th build to say if it works or not. Here is the link to the phablet site if someone wants to try an earlier build. look for the preinstalled zip at the bottom of the page after selecting the date
I'll guinea pig a couple older builds and post which one works.

Ok, again I feel a little stupid(again).... I don't empty my Trash very often at all(on my computer or in real life), just neglected to think of it til now. I have an Ubuntu zip from the 4th still there, uploading it now(upload speed is slow... won't be done for an hour or so). Going to check that it boots as it should then i'll post the link.
Again, this is just to hold over untill I can try to see what I need to change to get us booting with the nightlies again.
EDIT: Can verify now that it boots. Here is the Ubuntu zip from the 4th. Remember, not that it really matters, this is an older version than the current.

Confirmed, definitely boots. And I've successfully added all my accounts, but you've gotta either tap the top-right corner of the bottom-left 'swap' key to get the @ or the numbers, or the bottom-left corner of the swap-key (depends on which account you're trying to add - some of them have the Back button in the way which you can avoid by tapping the top-right corner of the swap key, and some have the Cancel button in the way, which you can avoid by tapping the bottom-left corner of the swap key). It's a pain the arse but it works.
I want to do the Google Contacts fix, but I want to do it from the handset's terminal app (i.e. not through ADB) - how do you do a return (Enter) in the Terminal app?
EDIT: found the fix for Enter and Backspace not working in terminal app. Flash this in recovery.

3/3/2011 - I've been away for several weeks, sorry about that. I've also moved on and will be futzing with my shiny new Xoom. I will not be working on Tab projects for the immediate future, it at all.
Been fun
There seems to be a genuine lack of activity on the Sprint version of the Tab. Hopefully this will allow folks to start making themes and ROM's for the Sprint flavor of the tablet.
This package was created via the "Rotobackup" Method pioneered by Rotohammer and maniac3389.
As far as I can tell, I'm the only one who has done this on the Sprint-flavor of the Tab, so this is all beta and VERY RISKY. I do not recommend using this unless you are VERY familiar with flashing Android devices.
NOTE: This is ALMOST STOCK. The Rotobackup process did not dump the modem.bin file properly. To address this, I used the modem from the Epic 4G (SPH-D700-DK28-8Gb-REL). This modem effectively disables GPS. There is no known fix yet.
Updates:
12/13/2010 - Looks like the package borks GPS. You cannot acquire satellites after flashing.
12/29/2010 - GPS is still broke if you use the package containing the modem. Looks like we will need to wait until an update is released. Feel free to keep troubleshooting the issue, I'll update the OP if somebody figures it out.
12/29/2010 - Uploaded package WITHOUT the modem
12/29/2010 - Introduced Zypher, a fully deodexed updater.
WARNING!!! YOU CAN BRICK YOUR DEVICE VERY EASILY.
THESE ARE FOR SPRINT VERSIONS OF THE TAB.
Instructions:
Backup your settings with Titanium Backup
Do a factory reset: Settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset
Turn on USB debugging: Settings>Applications>Development>USB debugging
Extract the RAR archive
Open "Odin3 v1.31.exe"
Reboot into Download Mode (adb reboot download)
Do not check Re-Partition option
Click PIT, select pit.pit
Click PDA, Select .tar file
Click Start
Downloads
Download 1 - Stock, no modem - Sprint Only! Use this if you want to get back to stock (rooted). ALL USERS SHOULD TRY THIS PACKAGE FIRST! If you still have problems, then you need to use the modem package which kills GPS (Download 2).
Download 2 - Stock, with modem - Sprint Only! Includes modem from Epic 4G - Only use if your Tab will not boot, this package will kill GPS
THERE IS NO WAY TO GET THE STOCK MODEM BACK AFTER YOU FLASH!!
Download Zypher v1 - Sprint Only! Deodexed\zipaligned. I recommend running a factory reset before applying the package. Settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset
Zypher Details:
Based off DJ30
Deodexed and zip aligned
Removed startup/shutdown sounds
Added Busybox installer
Added Titanium Backup
Added Z4Root
Added AD-Free hosts file
To do list:
Work in the full screen fix (via Spareparts)
Replace launcher with LauncherPro
Theme everything
Nice work, not that Sprint would allow it, but did this enable dialer functions since it is using an alternate modem file?
Awesome, thanks!
Now who's got a busted Tab to try this on!
Not sure if this is any help, but here's a system dump someone posted....
http://forum.androidcentral.com/galaxy-tab/44323-us-galaxy-tab-sprint-system-dump.html
Dunno. There is no dialer installed and it gives the standard engrish statement "Cannot make or take a call using Galaxy Tab"
I did some comparisons between the sprint tab and the epic, and the modems are identical. I just flashed this and it worked flawlessly.
Thanks again man I appreciate it. You have ressurected my tab.
Wow, maybe I can finally root

Excellent, glad it worked for you.
Nevermind.
I am going to try this now... I had terminal emulator crash on me and it messed up the filesystem or something. My Sprint Galaxy Tablet just says "Samsung" and glows after the intro animation.
I did manage to get the tablet into downloading mode by:
1) turning tablet off
2) holding Volume UP key and power key at the same time until it turns on
and I get little android man with a shovel that says "Downloading... Do not turn off Target!!!"
wish me luck
Why dont you just wipe it and see if that works first?

how would I do that? It won't actually boot up.. Just shows the samsung into screen and says on a screen that has samsung glowing. It will blink after a while and vibrate, then go back to glowing at me.
HOLY CRAP that worked!!!!! I was just about to give up! Notice the many hours between my last post and now.. (6:50am now LOL)
I had to do some other things not outlined in this thread to get my computer to see the Galaxy Tablet in the Device Manager. Basically I tried these things, (try them all if you have trouble, I'm not sure what or which actually worked):
tried to wipe from boot up (turn off, hold volume up and power until it turns on and release buttons)
that didn't work
install Kies and Samsung(android) SDK and JDK (java developer kit)
that didn't seem to work
install Samsung PC Studio 7
ah hah! I see you there in the device manager now!
power tablet off and get to download menu (hold volume down and power until you see the android holding a shovel at the download menu)
Load up Odin, YAY It connects and detects the COM!!
Select the PIT and TAR, start, it downloads and reboots and tab loaded right up!!
Best of all I think it also got rid of the Sprint Activation nag notice screen. It hasn't popped up yet and it has been a good 10 min or so! That would be a nice bonus
You saved me so much time and $$ thanks a TON!!
((side note, Odin loads up and displays GT-1000 not my SPH-P100... I edited my odin.ini to reflect the correct model. not a big deal at all, but I was getting confused at first as to why Odin was saying wrong model, thinking it was doing a detection when it was really just blindly echoing info from the ini file))
Good stuff.
You'd think Sprint would want to leak the firmware to keep people from exchanging/RMA'ing devices. One thing is certain with Android, people will hack the hell out of it.
My bad on the label. The top title in Odin is just that, a title. It doesn't doesn't affect the reload process at all. I'd change it, but uploading another 200MB file isn't on my list of activities today

When installing FXP113 to my phone, I found that on bootup I would get an error on the phone process and I had no service. After trying a few different things, I finally found the solution: Install FXP112 first, then install FXP113 over it without wiping data. Here is a step by step tutorial on installing FXP113 on the R800x. It probably would work the same for all Xperia Plays.
Required: Rooted Xperia Play and unlocked bootloader.
Needed Files: FXP112 as modified by Chevyowner
FXP113 as modified by Chevyowner
Replacement build.prop file for R800x
Fastboot - Fastboot+ADB+Fastboot_Drivers.zip
Sony Drivers
Recommended: Boot into recovery and make a Nandroid backup before continuing.
1. Copy the files for FXP112 and FXP113 to your sdcard. You will need to access these from recovery.
2. Install Fastboot. Unzip the file into C:\fastboot.
5. 2. Extract the boot.img of your choice to the fastboot directory. You may use the one in FXP113, or DarkForest3.img or DarkForest4.img (available here.)
5. Enter into Fastboot Mode. - Turn off phone. Hold search button down. Plug in USB cable. The power light should be blue The first time you do this, you will be prompted for the fastboot drivers. They will be in C:\fastboot\fastboot drivers.
6. To flash the new boot image, go to a command prompt and change to the c:\fastboot directory. Then use the following command:
fastboot -i 0x0fce flash boot boot.img <----- the name of your boot image.
7. When finished, remove the usb cable. Power on the phone and enter into Recovery. On some kernels, you will press repeatedly the volume down button; on others, you will press repeatedly on the back button or possibly the search button.
8. You MUST clear Data, Cache and Dalvik Cache. It is also recommended by some people to clear the battery stats.
9. Install zipfile from sdcard. Select the FXP112 file first. Allow it to install and then reboot the phone. (I usually clear data, cache and dalvik again just to be sure.)
10. Activate your phone on the Verizon network.
11. Now shut down and reboot into Recovery again.
12. This time, clear ONLY cache and dalvik cache. Do NOT clear data.
13. Install zipfile from sdcard. Select the FXP113 file this time. Allow it to install and then reboot the phone.
14. Copy the build.prop file into /system. You may want to rename the current one first.
15. Reboot and enjoy! You should be up and running with full data, wifi access now.

#10 There is no charge to activate the phone if you already have service. It's like dialing *228 and choosing option 1, only the system does it for you.
#14 Yes, you can just copy it to \system, but don't forget to change access to RW before pasting. You may also want to rename the old file first as a backup, although I never have.

I think it was just edited to identify the phone properly as an R800x. PaxChristos told me to use it when he helped me install FXP111 and I have used it ever since. I haven't had any issues at all with it, so you might give it a try if you're on Verizon.

That was only needed the first time Chevy made FXP111 work, he missed some things in the build.prop that created graphical artifacts in menus and such. All of his builds after that have the correct build.prop now.

*22899 is the shortcut for activating service in case anyone wanted to just store it for future reference
-and you can also use flashtool to flash back to stock or flash a new kernel
*228 worked fine for me. semcsuite.apk won't show up in my app drawer. I moved it to /system/app and fixed permissions. Still not there.

From what I have read... no. That is why I have not jumped ship to CM. Otherwise I would be there right now. So until they get the touchpads working I will wait, although I have also read they are working on creating from scrathc their own drivers for the touchpads as the current drivers now require SE framework...... so cross your fingers.

Not to be rude or by any disrespect but how isn't it a "true" release? A release is a release..being that it's in beta status doesn't mean it's any less, cm is always changing and improving so there is no hey this is the final version kind of thing..CDMA isn't even supported by cm at all so the fact we have cm9 before verizon gives it to us is amazing. Just to point out, this isn't hacking by any means, android is open source..it's like going into an open store and saying you're breaking in

Yes, giving their release to us is amazing, but saying that camera works on changelog, and not even the basic apps like gtalk and camera works, this barely can be considered as working.
As a software engineer I label as a beta, not RC anything. beta is to fix stopper bug like this, RC is for the little annoyances lonely.
For example, my work friend installed another rom on their htc sensation, labeled as beta and all features works, with jagged areas here and there.
And yep, I know the Team FreeXperia is a one guy team
I'm happy with all this releases, only frustrated because the thing is being labeled as working, when not. So I made a report here to make sure another person doesn't make the same mistake as me.

How do install install the custom rom and set up fastboot?
*This is for Toro (VZW Galaxy Nexus) right now, may be ported later.*
I will include a Gapps download below a little later!
It is Android for right now, but contains all the Ubuntu files necessary to create the Ubuntu filesystem and boot into it.
I need help though making this part happen.
So, as a fledgling developer with not a terribly large amount of ROMs produced and some issues with my currently released versions, I decided to go back to simplicity and mod a small version of SlimBean ROM, adding in the necessary Ubuntu files to create a composite OS, containing both Android and Ubuntu. I still haven’t figured out how to get into the Ubuntu file system, but if someone would like to help me on that, it would be appreciated!
Some things to note:
• Since it is based on SlimBean, many parts of the ROM are SlimBean parts, such as the wallpaper.
• The Settings app is also very similar to the SlimBean ROM.
• It is fairly stable and does fix the issue sometimes present on 4.2.1 where activating WiFi disengages the internet capability of the device, until you re-enable just cellular data.
• I have not tested it to the fullest extent; hence, it is still in Alpha stage. I would also welcome the help of anyone who wants to beta test, and post back to this thread any breakthroughs.
• I hope this works (crossing my fingers)!
• Download links and install instructions below.
*****
• Important: I accept no responsibility to harm to your device and others (people included) from the use of this ROM. I will not settle for your yelling and screaming about your bricked device. You have been warned!!!!
*****
Installation: (very similar to SlimBean procedure)
• Boot into CWM recovery
• MAKE A NANDORID BACKUP!!!!!!!!!
• Wipe Data/Factory Reset
• Wipe Cache
• Wipe /system in Mounts and Storage
• Install using install from sdcard command in Home Screen of Recovery
• If you want, install the Gapps you downloaded below and placed with ROM zip file.

EDIT: I am re-posting the rom in the way kicker22004 got it to work in a minute. I will post the updated url below. Also, I am prepared to release the other file, Quantal-UI, which when combined with the ROM, should allow dual-boot and/or side-by-side booting. Again, this will take some major hacking and feats of mastery to attain. kicker22004, If you do not mind, take the Quantal file and help me find a way to dual-boot. It seems like a thing where we need a custom kernel to dual-boot and affiliated files. I am also willing to open this up to other ideas and file changes, as long as I can repost up here in OP section, giving thanks though to the people who helped out.

I'm not sure I get what this ROM is. Can you explain further (or post screenshots) of this "Android/Ubuntu" hybrid?
I downloaded and was going to flash but it aborts the download. Not sure the problem here. Tried in both TWRP and CWM recovery.
interesting, you have me curious but need a little more info/screen shots
I downloaded (the most recent) and tried to flash through twrp and cwm and both failed immediately during the installation process.

What's this suppose to be exactly. We need more info on this since it won't flash for anyone

I will include a Gapps download below a little later!
• Reboot into your new ROM!!!!
Updates and Edits will be posted later.

I keep having issues myself, and have decided to (as OP) go a different route. I will release a working, restorable/flashable file, that I hav compiled from my own phone, though it is not set up in any way. I will put it out by Tuesday of this coming week.
It will boot, run linux...I promise!
I have already downloaded the files from my phone, just waiting for tomorrow to do the grunt work of putting the flashable zip together.

Thank you, no need to hurry! Don't want you to think I was trying to rush you on this. I'm not a developer but I understand how hard this stuff can be to port/get working at times. Simply just wanted to let you know my experience so you had something to build off of.
I fixed the issue of it not flashing. I got it to flash but after it passes the Google logo it doesn't boot. Just a black screen. Here's the link anyways I'll look into it not booting. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?4romci4spsqbt3u

Thanks for the development, but I do wish to echo the previous questions. What do you mean by composite OS? Will it be a hybrid of Ubuntu Mobile and Android or just Android with the ability to run Ubuntu software? Just looking for a full explanation. Thanks!

ok i'm truly lost as to what we have here.. i got the first rev1 working and now this....but it looks like android.? Second OP i will help you with your flashing issue......when you are zipping them...your putting them in a folder named AndrevrootUbuntu-A1Rev3.2...or whatever rev your on. then you are zipping that folder. this is causing the error because it's /AndrevrootUbuntu-A1Rev3.2/AndrevrootUbuntu-A1Rev3.2/*...instead of just /* all you have to do is see your files (META-INF,system,Boot.img) select them all and zip with winrar.... select store on compression method and then you will have your flashable zip. So to those wanting to try this follow my guide...
Extract his .zip
open all folders til you see (META-INF,system,Boot.img)
Highlight all 3 and right-click (add to archive...)
select zip
select (STORE) under compression method.
you will be left with a new .zip file..move to sdcard and flash or sideload.
To OP i'm not trying to come off rude. just wanting to help you understand what happened here and to get ppl testing.
Thank You BTW, but we do need more info as to what this is..because to most it looks just like android.
Update: for those of you who have rev3.2 i can confirm it doesn't boot.

Are you trying to get a Ubuntu on Android setup where its Android on the phone but when hooked up to a MHL or dock, it outputs the Ubuntu desktop to television/monitor? If so, your better off cross compiling CM10.1 source with parts of the Ubuntu touch ARM source code since it shares a lot of the same libs. This is what Motorola did when they made Webtop which is very similar concept to Ubuntu on Android.

still pretty curious/confused as to what this is. maybe a video or screen shots will encourage more people to try this out and help.
So I just saw news that dual booting is in development, and with the nexus 4 being modeled after the LGOG, I thought why not try?
After playing around with the dual-boot installer, I got my hands on the installer's apk!
Anybody wanna take a crack at reverse-engineering the app to work on the Optimus G?
(Kinda new to android development so I'm not sure if that's possible, but it would be awesome if it worked!)
Edit: Changed the build.prop to appear as Nexus 4. App is now functional.
Edit2: IT WORKS (sorry for the caps) Installed and dual boot works.
Edit3: VERY IMPORTANT! Dual-booting also happens to remove your recovery.
(Which comes back after you uninstall Ubuntu, though it seems like your backups are erased?)
After installation, everything stays the same except you have the option to reboot into Ubuntu Touch from within the Installer app.
When you start up the phone normally, it boots straight into Android.

I saw the article earlier and thought I might play around with it just for sh*ts and giggles but I've already had Ubuntu working on my phone more than once, still no CDMA progress on their part so it still isn't very useful imo. Also the last time I installed it, a full wipe and reinstall of my backup somehow still left ubuntu system files behind and broke twrp(backups would take forever and say successful but would always fail on restore). Once I figured it out it was an easy enough fix and didn't soft brick my phone but it's still a lot of risk for not much payoff. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea, the only operating system I use on my pc is an ubuntu derivative. But until they support cdma, a lot of things won't work.

So did you install this per their(ubuntu) instructions or just install the apk as a system app? I went through the source of the dualboot.sh file and also pulled the apk but haven't tried installing it yet. Thank you for letting me know that it erases backups, I'll make sure to copy it to my pc before installing. Could you check something for me after Ubuntu is unistalled? When I had Ubuntu installed before, after wiping and restoring my backup, some Ubuntu files remained. If Ubuntu is currently uninstalled for you, check to see if the /data/ubuntu folder is still there with a root file explorer.
If it is, TWRP 2.5.0.0 will NOT make a backup. Actually it will, but will take forever(20-25 mins) and fail on restore when it gets to the data part. Im not sure about other recoveries. Just a heads up from the times I've already played with Ubuntu Touch and I'm curious if it still does it. I keep saying Im gonna try this and KEEP getting sidetracked(today it's PSX 4.4.2 and AK kernel!) but thanks for the info!

Depending one the build, some things may be sluggish.
At the moment, there aren't a lot of features and the ones that do work (like settings and home screen) are very limited in what they can do.

I just installed it as a regular app. The Ubuntu Touch installation itself requires root permissions though.
Sorry but I can't check on the residual files as I hard-bricked my Optimus G.
It was a stupid idea to try to turn it into a Nexus 4 and that thread should be closed.

Yup, aside from the lag and lack of features in the Ubuntu Touch builds, there was no problem.
As far as I saw, installing/dual-booting Ubuntu Touch on the Optimus G does no harm and has no side-effects.
I bricked my phone with something completely different.

Hopefully that's the case doing the dual boot install. Installing just ubuntu touch did have side effects for me, and what was weirder was that it took a few weeks. I had restored backups, made backups and flashed different roms for about 2 weeks after I installed ubuntu touch. Then all of a sudden, twrp stopped making backups and I stated the rest, lol. Have you hopped onto the irc #lg-optimus-g channel btw? Are you sure there is no hope for your lgog? Im guessing whatever you did wiped out the sbl and download mode with it?

as far as active links, here's one:

also be aware when messing with recovery and roms on the Optimus V, you'll be fine if you have the original display (I think that's the Hitachi but may be the Novatek.)
it's been so long I forget which was which.
but during production, lg decided to add a different screen manufacturer, updated their kernel source with a driver to handle both.
older kernels than that will only drive the original screen.
I made a big stink about it for a while, while there was still development going on, and eventually people started patching their kernel configs to turn on the newer screens too, once everyone realized I knew what I was talking about.
so if you have the original screen model, you're golden. if you have a new screen and flash an older rom or recovery (like xionia, for example) you'll get a black screen with backlight instead of display output and be left with nothing but adb or poking around at the display blind.
fair warning.

I might be able to help you, Tell me what ROM exactly and what it says is WORKING and NOT WORKING on the main page of the post... or a link... It could be like you said a simple set up.
But I do remember having to change something to get other carriers to work. Because it was only a CDMA phone. No GSM. If I remember correctly

you have to crack open the boot.img and replace just the kernel with a working one. it's "fun."
and finding a working kernel for the newer screens now as a standalone download is really iffy. (actually, see next post. I found /one./)
if you have another jb rom with working screen you can split that boot.img and yoink its kernel for the one that doesn't have more than a backlight. you can also plop that picasticks kernel from below into any blackscreen recovery images too, they split and recombine just like a boot image.
a lot of people call the boot.img a kernel, but it's actually a combination of kernel and ramdisk.
you can use osm0sis AIK tools to disassemble and reassemble boot.img relatively painlessly.
I'm happy to promote osm0sis's work. he does great things. drop him a donation if you're so inclined, he certainly deserves it.
by the way, don't try to insert the 3.0 kitkat kernel into anything else... it probably won't boot. jb is the best bet to try it on though, thekraven nudged me into porting that kernel from the p500 for his jb roms. I'm glad he did, because the experience has been very useful on other devices.
ok, here's my gift to y'all.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=317344
archive of the primary goodies from my old failing NTFS external drive. We'll see how long it takes for androidfilehost to arbitrarily delete them like they did every other file I ever uploaded there for the optimus S/V with no warning or acknowledgment. they never even answered multiple support requests trying to find out why... I'm guessing they decided to clean their servers of things uploaded before a certain date, but no telling since they wouldn't answer.
in the kernels subfolder is a picasticks kernel i built for the old/new screens.
multiple recoveries. some are old and may blackscreen on newer devices, fair warning. some roms will be the same way. the twrp's may or may not have reversed system/userdata like my os2sd twrp, try and see. they should at least be good on any model optimus s/v screen.
several roms, including one harmonia, and PAC-rom from thekraven.
others folder has V drivers... and swype flashable zip, ripped probably from GB stock, maybe from froyo stock.
also multirom recoveries and installer if you like multiboot. thread here
have fun.

Wasen't it the Pickasticks Recovery... or a file... or something either way I found your old post...
Worked with LesileAnn with somethings too Haha Thank you again for the long lost files!!
I might be able to help you, Tell me what ROM exactly and what it says is WORKING and NOT WORKING on the main page of the post... or a link... It could be like you said a simple set up.
But I do remember having to change something to get other carriers to work. Because it was only a CDMA phone. No GSM. If I remember correctly

you need the correct .kl file, I've probably got one stashed somewhere.
it switches the two keys in software.
it's funny, because both the virgin and sprint phones have the same board, but the firmware reverses which key is read as which.
I'll look around and try to find the .kl file for you. androidfilehost deleted my flashable zips with those along with everything else for the S/V a while back as I was complaining about above, or I'd just point you there.

I can pull the one from the rom on my V and switch the keys.
no flashable zip, you'll have to use adb to install it, I'll post the commands
it's home and menu that are swapped if I remember right, is that correct?
it's actually a .kcm file, I've messed with so many devices I mix things up sometimes.
Sorry for being gone so long, yes those are the keys,my Optimus S had been dropped one time too many but i finally replaced it and am still interested in getting those files and commands
alright, I'll pull the file and swap those two keys.
I don't remember any oddball locations for the file across different roms... but since it has been a while since I did anything much with this device, just to make sure, I'll add a test to the instructions to make sure it's going into the right location.

Seems that it always goes to /system/usr and the two folders are keylayout and key(something else idr) the one that i cannot remember the name for is where the .kcm files are at
since harmonia has two applicable .kl files, thunder.kl and thunder_keypad.kl I'm not sure which to mess with.
they're in /system/usr/keylayout/
the process is to adb pull the thunder*.kl file from your working ROM (whichever file it is, thunder.kl or thunder_keypad.kl,) back it up on computer with a copy in case you mess it up, then:
change all instances of HOME to MENU and MENU to HOME. I can't remember how much difference the WAKE and WAKE_DROPPED field makes, but you can switch those too, or leave that alone and try it.
if you're using M$ window$, don't push the enter/return key while editing unless you're editing with notepad++, the default editor screws up carriage return line feed character codes. mac or linux shouldn't dork up the CRLFs.
chmod 644 the file after pushing it back, and chown root:root
I'd have to grab it from one of the cm rom files I uploaded for a better reference, and I'd rather not re-download them or try to get my failing external drive they're on to mount at the moment.

I was able to pull from CM7 for LS670 and swap, fix perms and voila! Also noticed getting gapps to work on BobzHomes jb is a PITA,as there appears to be no setupwizard so it thinks its in setup, but its not. i looked at build.prop and shut off the setupwizard bypass but nothin. Nearing the point where i say frick gapps at this point

yeah, gapps suck. and it's even worse dealing with them on a device which has such a small system and data partition.
you might look into microg. I prefer it anyway.
glad you got the keyswap to work.
