Hi all,
For past few days i have been getting the strange issue. When i turn on my phone nothing would come and only black screen would show up. Then after few seconds i get message saying "launcher is not responding"...
I have tried both stock and nova launcher but same issue. I reflashed stock rom again and still same problem.
My Rom: ICS 4.0.2 Stock and stock kernel.
I want to keep stock rom so what is the solution? Why does this happen? Thanks

did you at any point between flashes, factory reseted the device?
did you try clearing app data/cache?
concerning nova launcher, you should post this under its related thread
concerning stock launcher, you should try and reach [email protected] groups
people flash all kinds of stuff but one ANR (application not responding) comes along and all hell breaks loose. get adb logcat when you're booting up/entering Android UI.
i can't wipe data or cache as i have stock recovery.I don't have CWM. i will upload the logcat soon. Thanks

if you press up (or up+power) on stock recovery, it will give you a recovery menu if i'm not mistaken (i may not recall it correctly).
and i was talking about the app data/cache that you clear in Settings > Apps as well, not just the ones in recovery.

Here is the Logcat. I already wiped everything when i flashed stock rom 4.0.2 with XXKK6.
Launcher not Responding
I'm getting a similar problem with my new Galaxy Nexus. I'm running stock ICS 4.0.1, kernel 3.0.1 on the bell mobility network. I've installed a few apps, but nothing which seems too unpopular. Here is the list I had installed when the launcher was performing flawlessly:
Swype Keyboard
Draw Free
Bell Mobile TV
Volume+
Here's what I've installed recently since launcher has become unstable:
Flashlight v. 1.3.0
Skype
StumbleUpon
TED
Sudoku Free
Here's whats been installed since:
Tip n Split
Antivirus Free
RealCalc
Quite regularly I am getting the "Launcher is not responding" message with a request to wait, report, or close the launcher. The home screen will lock up temporarily and none of the buttons will become usable. I've checked the ram usage, and it is holding at around 400mb. Clearing a bunch of apps from the cache or running screen does not change the frequency of freezes. I have also tried resetting the Nexus to factory defaults without any new apps, but it only took about an hour before I got the 'Launcher is not responding' message.
Anyone have any ideas for re-stabilizing ICS?
Thanks!
There is a part in the logcat talking about a channel that is unrecoverably broken... seems 1 of the fc's, power outage or something else left a file half written in your system.
Try performing a factory reset (which will wipe all userdata and give you a clean system)
if this doesn't work and you've had your phone unlocked reflash the system, boot and recovery again (using fastboot) (how to do that is explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1391881 )
If you have not tempered wit the system in any way (not rooted, no custom roms and no custom recovery) send it back to the store and get it fixed under warranty. When you can't or don't want to contact your seller proceed with reflashing your system at your own risk.

Grab the bar and pull it down so it's on the bottom of your screen instead of on the left side. Do you have an edit button now?

ANOTHER STRANGE THING...I DIDNT CHANGE ANYTHING...but now...the side bar has changed!!!
I just restarted the device...
give a look here and give a look to the other screenshot i posted before
screenshot 1: two gmail icons
screenshot 2: 2 videoplayer icons
no reason for this
OH!!! now i remember the biggest change i did lately...
a couple of days ago...i installed a .apk file to open flash animated web sites...then i had to install Firefox, because ive read that it is the only one browser that can browse flash sites...after installing that small file...i downloaded it somewhere on a forum of developers...not here...i dont remember where...but i was happy because it worked...i can now see flash sites on firefox...
could be an issue with the sidebar??? mmmmmm
But...i repeat...I HAVE NEVER EVER seen the edit button since the first day i had the baby....
This is strange indeed. Your warranty should covers software issues right? If so, you can take it to them and tell them the problem.
But first you should do a Factory Reset of the phone and see if it solves it (warning: this will delete your data).
You could also flash a new stock rom that has the sidebar working properly over your existing rom.

With the Factory Reset i loose everything? Installed appz...contact numbers...settings and so on?
I contacted samsung italy by phone, the girl didnt understand a ****...obviously...but she took notes, registered my issue with a number, and she told me they will call me back when they know more.
Will post news here.
Thx for you attn Moh!

Backup your stuff, reinstall firmware (Kies or Odin).
Setup scripts might have failed on first startup.
Yes, factory reset restores your phone to its original state, so it deletes everything. However, things like contacts, messages, settings, call logs can be backed up easily though through Google and Samsung servers. Also make sure to backup your music, videos, pictures and other media files stored in your internal memory to your PC, as they will be deleted as well. So basically you can restore these things easily, the only thing that you have to restore manually are your apps.
(if you're rooted you can backup your apps and their data using Titanium backup and similar apps, but since you're not rooted you have to download and install them again if you decide to reset).
Who's your provider? My phone is branded by T-Mobile. It seems that the branded models of the n7105 all have this issue. Mine is 3 days out of the box and I'm having the same problem. No edit button and some apps doubled.
I've read similar issues in other forums - all with the 7105 Models

thx for your attn twofive!
The startup fail could be a good point...mmm...
Please, give just a few words about reinstalling the firmware...
I just have to connect the phone with a PC with Kies...and then i have to choose 'firmware upgrade'?
Or i should do the hard reset from the phone menu then connect with pc and kies and proceed with the upgrade??
mmmm....need help on this...

Thx Moh...now i Have the complete view of my phone's future
as i wrote...the hard reset will do again the start up of the firmware automatically? or i have to connect with Kies later?
The factory reset should restore your phone as you first bought. (remember the first day you opened the phone, when it asked you to enter your google account, samsung account, dropbox account etc etc) that's what a factory reset does, it restores the phone to "factory" state-- hence the name. You don't have to connect to kies later.
If after factory reset you still have the problem, then that means that they gave you a buggy software, and you can tell them that.
To be honest? If I were in your position I would probably root my phone, find appropriate firmware in www.sammobile.com, and flash that in my phone through Odin. However, I didn't recommend this route to you as you seem to be inexperienced in doing this kind of stuff and it may void your warranty (or worse, brick your phone) if you don't know what you're doing. That's why I suggested factory reset, which can be done from the phone itself, it is perfectly safe to do, and doesn't require any experience to perform.
After the JB update, whenever I reboot the phone, the keyboard keeps on return to Swype, even after I have the default keyboard set to others. Does anyone else has this problem? Any possible solution? I heard that it will be fixed on 4.1.2 but its probably won't be release until next year

Yes I changed the default keyboard and every time I restart the phone it goes back to samsung keyboard. (sorry said swype before but it was actually samsung keyboard)
I am currently using another keyboard that support other language and set it to default but everytime I reboot the phone, it switch back to samsung keyboard.
I have this exact same problem, except I am trying to use Swiftkey 3. Every time I reboot the phone it returns to the stock keyboard and I have to go back in the menus and select Swiftkey as the default.

When you go to Language and Input, the default shown is the one we selected, but the keyboard is NOT the default one.
This is the link I was talking about. It could be a bug in 4.1.1 that will be fix in 4.1.2
Nvm
could be a bug in it not being installed properly, or just needing a factory reset. I've read that the factory reset fixes it, and more so that it doesn't happen to those who wiped data and such before installing a custom rom.

I did factory reset before installing this firmware.
I download the entire firmware (Stock T-mobile JB) from sammobile and install it using Odin
not happen to me. I tried to reset the phone and swiftkey is still intact.
It tends to have bugs after update in android. I suggest updating via OTA since this way does't give me any bugs. When I did update via Odin, I got bugs. Also, you should do factory reset AFTER updating, not before updating. so yeah try to do a factory reset.
Don't know what to tell you guys I tried swiftkey smart keyboard and 4.2 all stick after a reboot.

Sorry i forgot to say, I did a reset through recovery before and after updating.
Does the same thing on my phone as well, coming from a fresh Odin flash and factory reset. It is a known issue with jelly bean. I just froze the Samsung keyboard with TB as a workaround

Hello, guys. There is a "simple" fix: just to make Swype the only one keyboard. So you make root and uninstall Samsung and any other keyboards with Titanium backup))

[Q] Why would my entire set of homescreens reset after "Launcher has stopped."?
Something really strange happened to my Nexus 7 2013 last night. I coldbooted it, checked some notifications, unlocked it, and then it told me "Launcher has stopped." Next thing I know, my entire launcher was reset like it was a brand new device. but all my apps still showed up in the apps tray and my other settings were intact. Now I need to set up folders and widgets again because everything was reset. o_o
I'm running stock and it's rooted, but I haven't modded it or anything. Does this issue sound familiar to any of you?

If I'm not understanding you right, Unlocking resets all data. Otherwise something with your fsync might be screwed up.

Unlocking from the lockscreen. Not bootloader unlocking. Sorry but I didn't mention the bootloader at all? How would fsync be screwed up?
There was a chance for eMMC data corruption in builds prior to JSS15Q (latest).
Suggest you upgrade to latest version and hopefully the corruption problems go away.

What's eMMC data? I'll probably need to sideload the new build and flash that way. Still doesn't show up for OTA.

flash memory, your user data and virtual sdcard (and ROM, cache, etc.)
And it really messed things up. Device not seeing other launchers, and the native launcher is 'stuck' - any modifications I make (icons/screens/widgets/positioning etc) resets after every reboot.
Cleared cache, but no luck.
Help.
And notifications don't show on the top (only when I pull down, and not all)

I made an account just to post here cause I'm having the exact same issues. I've had so many issues and I thought things would be better, but this update completely ruined our phones. Not only is the phone even more dysfunctional now, it's uglier too. The cosmetic updates are gross, the new emojis are gross, AND they added software that's unremovable.

If you guys read my mega thread you will see there is a fix for the launcher customizing resetting there in tge fidst post under the change log.
But i also have a list of bugs i will forward to Nubia once the community have found them all.
For alternate launchers, be sure to set it in the App Info settings > 3-dot menu > default apps > Desktop.

Try doing an in place update of the full rom zip, then clear cache and data of launcher.
During beta test clearing data fixed it for all testers. So its possible the OTA had an additional bug for you
Can confirm on the update the method you described doesn't work (on mine the alternate launchers don't show up in the defaults list for desktop).
@Nyanwiz - I ended up flashing the latest Q stock rom, but would be willing to try your suggestion. Can I just flash the full zip of new R build over it without losing data? And if it doesn't work, can I flash the 10 back?
Or do I need to do through the front end system updates UI?

By any chance do you remember which rom those testers used for their testing? The fix hasn't worked for me, and I was running the US rom
Hi, I also had the same issue where any app icon when dragged onto a home screen would disappear. Tried to force stop the native launcher and restart the device. It worked after a few goes and my old home screens were restored and i am able to add apps onto my home screen. Haven't tried any custom launcher like nova yet. I'm guessing its a bug I was about to submit a ticket before it "fixed itself".
