Ready for jump upgrade to note 3 about to press the buy button. I have 3 questions please answer asap
1. Is the root/unlock bootloader process very easy? Wait is the bootloader unlock able?
2. For wifi tethering I have unlimited 4g 19.99 I have no problem tethering hundreds of gb of data they my phone for my whole house laptop tablets and TV by running proxy shield the network doesn't detect it on my nexus 5 with that tether nag screen can i do that with stock rom or is it doable with custom hack/rom? Vanilla Android? Just like cheaper phones?
3.shiukd I wait for s5? I mean I know the difference of a note but do you guys think the s5 will come close enough to note without a huge unpocketable footprint? And added new features? What are the best uses for the stylus the only thing I will most use it is for photoshop touch. Also is kitkat available now?
Sent from my LG-P659 using Tapatalk
No worries. I personally recommend to buy it. Everything is perfect, smooth... When the S5 comes out, it'll be expensive as hell. What I think is that every phone in the S series is gonna have way smaller screen than the Note series. I prefer large screens as they are more confortable to use. So yes, buy it. About rooting, Im not sure. I just bought this phone from T mobile and I have no idea how to root it. Hopefully someone else is going to explain us.

Yea because clearly Harvey and jidah don't do the same. He may not have the phone but in general you should know that if you rooted your phone already no their is no bootloader to unlock. Common sense in this field. Like I stated. Neub. Nothing wrong w that.

Yes we all was and we got flamed way worst than this. Lesson learned.
TWEAKED 1.0 NOTE 3
If you think the N3 might be too big to pocket and can wait for the S5 to arrive, that doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. From what I've read the specs should be very similar or slightly better. Plus there are rumors of a 4K, non-AMOLED screen, an iris scanner and a different GUI which may or may not still be Touch-Whiz. Really hard to tell until the official announcement, but it could be a very compelling device.
All that said, I think the N3 is, overall, the best phone out there at the moment. It's plenty pocketable (depends on your pockets) and the t-mobile version is known to have an unlocked boot-loader. That plus tbe CPU, screen & microSD slot mean that, unless the S5 makes sandwiches, I don't expect to feel any buyers remorse when it releases. But I do love sandwiches.
tl;dr IMHO If you can, wait until the rumored S5 announcement in Feb and decide then. If not, get the N3 now. I like sandwiches.

Hi,
I live in Canada and have my GN with Bell. I've been stuck on 4.0.1 since I got the phone; no updates were ever available.
Recently, I had to get my phone repaired and gave it in to the Samsung place here and when I got it back, it was updated to 4.1.1 (I attached a pic of the info)
I just wanted to ask you guys if all the info there looks good/correct. Also, not really sure how the tech managed to update it since nothing was ever available...
On another note, I was wondering if any of you could direct me to rooting methods (preferably on mac) / ways to change to yakju (also preferably on mac) on the version of the phone I have now... I searched and saw a bunch of different methods and whatnot, but I'm terrified to choose a potentially "wrong" one.
Thanks!
they must have updated it using Odin. is the IMEI the same or a different phone
I don't think I've ever seen that baseband before. I wonder if Samsung is actually close to releasing something for the Candian yakjuxx variant.

Before you change to yakju, would you mind dumping your radio, bootloader and ROM please? You have a new radio, so I'm sure lots of folks would like to try it out. And I'm sure lots of Canadians would like to try out your ROM as well.
I can post instructions later tonight.

Hi I am new here and I would like to root my device to make it my own and get rid of all the apps that came with it, but I have a few questions.
1, Once I am rooted which rom is the best for my AT&T GN2?
2, Will I still be able to update my GN2?
3, What happens if I messed up during the rooting process?
4, And how often do I need to change roms?
5, Is rooting the way to go?
I am going to be dead honest here, I am a girl and some of the steps of rooting I dont quite understand, if someone can help me explain things I will be so happy.

1. Try each rom out and find out what YOU like. I personally use CleanRom 4.0.5 with no problems.
2. Why update when custom roms are better than stock roms?
3. If you mess up thats on you. But its not to hard root. I rooted and installed a custom rom before leaving the att store.
4. If you find a rom that you like you will most likely flash a new rim once its updated.
5. Yes rooting has many advantages. Ex. Wifi tethering, removing bloatware, custom roms, etc.....

No. You can be rooted using the "stock" rom you are using now out of the box. You will have the ability to delete apps using the app mentioned before.
If and when you do decide to install new roms. You will have to install a recovery. Which that exynos abuse apk does not include.
A recovery is a whole other thing.
For recovery I use twrp.

I'll be honest, this smells of a "phone won't turn on" thread in the near future. You're not ready to root your phone and go playing around in recovery. You might be ready to root once you'd studied up on exanose abuse and the rooting concept in general. But right now I would hold off if I were you. TBO the Gn2 runs so well out of the box that you're almost there anyway. Make sure you are confident that you will know how to do each step BEFORE you attempt to root, and are sure you have another web-enabled device so that you can come here for questions while your Gn2 is down.
Let's us know what you decide...

I dunno. @thecubed doesn't own this phone and @designgears mentioned that he bought it because of the locked bootloader, implying be didn't want to flash stuff. Then again, he essentially let cubed brick his phone so apparently his addiction still had him in a strangle hold.
It will happen, but how long and when it does how many roms will we see.

Lets hope for the best as this phone has a great potential. I love it and feels its a solid upgrade to the Note II as i was not happy with the S4. Pls keep us posted
Long story short, got a few connects at T-Mobile (used to work for them) and was able to have a buddy of mine snag me a test model note III for free! - To use and play with for about a week. All I can say is.... Save your pennies, and it is everything and more than I expected from Samsung. Just wow. The screen is that flexible material that doesn't break or whatever, and looks absolutely stunning. Very sleek little device even though it is bigger in screen size than its predecessor.
I'm gonna work on rooting it while I have it, so by the time the device drops root will be available immediately and we'll already have a system image to play around with. I am buying one of these, for sure.
The model I have is running 4.2.2 which is what it is launching with, but he is sure Samsung is already working on a 4.3 update for it, which will be available shortly after launch.
Best looking mobile device I have ever held, hands down.

Really? You pick up a product that no one else in the world has, and dont even post a pic of it?
Until I see it Im going to have to say BS.
I promised I would not leak any vital info about the device... The only thing I can really tell you about is the screen because that info was already confirmed on the web as was the OS version.
It is benchmarking around 15k in quadrant though. Very fast device, LTE, runs 60 fps in every single 3D benchmark app I can find. Impressive on every level. I feel like these things are gonna be flying off the shelves and I will need to pre-order one for sure lol.
Once I root it I will take a look at the CPU info but I can say this, it is not running a snap dragon 600... No way. Too fast for it to be using that processor.
***EDIT**** I can confirm this right here...
http://www.gottabemobile.com/2013/07/30/samsung-galaxy-note-3-features-continue-to-take-shape/
Just ran cat /proc/cpuinfo from terminal and it has a Qualcomm 800 CPU packed in it. Don't need root for this command. And that also confirmed why it had 4.2 and not 4.3 lol.
Pretty sick device. I'm tempted to post some pictures lmao... But I promised I wouldn't, so I can't. Sorry Steve
Edit edit*** just rooted it. looooooolllllll.... Processor is clocked by default to 2.3 GHz and it has 4GB of RAM 0.o
Time to play..

Kewl, Get a system dump of the phone. so dwith can get a jump on making tweaked for the note 3 ?????????

4GB? Isn't that contrary to what every other leak has claimed so far?
Give the guy a break. A system dump would be cool to see. Things like "proof" can take time to generate.

Waiting for this thread to be locked. Pics or it never happened. No offense
Why is the right door always locked?
OP is full of it. He's just regurgitating hardware specs already confirmed by several sources. Nothing to see. Thread reported.

Haha true that, talk is cheap. Prove it, Heineken is on me!
Thread is not breaking any rules except should be in "other device discussion" thread and possibly bad taste if it is a joke
I was burnt by people getting new phones with updated software weeks before the OTA.
The best way to kill this thread if you do not believe is to not post in it.
It will die quickly then.
OP, Y no screenshot of about phone with hardware ID?
Thank you for your cooperation

Also see this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466405 for the n7100 discussion and mirrors for the download, since the download link on sammobile doesnt work

Yes sir, already have cf autoroot and twrp sweet
Hey guys, does it works with our t-mo note2?
Why do people continually ask these questions? Isn't that what the devs DO around here? Where do you think their "updates" come from? I'm pretty sure it's a safe bet that once a firmware like this is leaked, at least 8 of your 10 favorite roms will be updated to it within 24-48 hours.
It has been pretty slow development wise lately so I'm sure the devs are chomping at the bit for a new project. Have patience people, no need for 15 threads asking about leaks, that is exactly why we are ALL here, they will come, don't worry.

The devs aren't obligated to do anything. If you are so adamant about upgrading to this leak, then you should help us all out and port it yourself. Otherwise, please try to be patient.
This is the type of thread that I sit back and watch for entertainment purposes after I get some popcorn and a good drink! In answer to the OPs question yes, their are plenty of us working on it.
For everyone else, try to be nice, we were all once noobs...

Nah man, you're good. This is exactly where it should be in q&a. Some of us in here just tend to be too much of a smart @$$ sometimes. No worries. I personally wouldn't have seen this unless someone posted it so thank you.

I was mostly joking because of coug's post.
Before I posted it I checked to see if anyone had mentioned it, and no one had (on tmo forum at least) and I know (think) it's not that hard to convert a rom... idk

im sure the devs get the leaks before the rest of us minions. Doubt they wait to do their work until one of us "asks" them to do it. The name of the site IS xda "developers". Look at the Jedi roms. Every time there is a leak we get a rom update. Seriously doubt these guys would not want to improve their work every chance they get. So if they can, or want to, they will. Sit back, relax. Go READ around in the dev section. There are dozens of roms. Maybe ask one of the devs who is already working on a port from that phone?
