Hi all,
I finally decided to root my HTC Desire. It's running 2.10.405.2, with a 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 Radio and HBOOT 0.93.0001. The recovery is Clockwork 2.5.0.7
I went thru the latest Unrevoked, and I got it rooted the first time.
Yet, I can't perform a nandroid backup in order to flash a MIUI rom. This is the displayed error message i got :
Backing up boot
Error while dumping boot image
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
E:Can't find MISC :
I'm lost !
I had exactly the same problem and had to install clockworkmod 3.0.0.5 in order to be able to create a nandroid backup.
Search the desire development thread for the latest clockworkmod, download the .img version and reflash the phone using unrevoked but before you start, go into unrevoked settings and tell it to use the .img you downloaded instead of the standard one. 3.0.0.5 will then be your standard recovery and will let you backup/flash etc.
Hope this helps

Also,
Keep ROM Manager installed, because although It's generally **** and I'd never use it if I didn't have to, it has one use . .
Sometimes, you may try to flash a zip in Clockworkmod (CWM) 3.0.0.5 and it will tell you it can't flash it due to some edify scripting issue (or something like that!!)
As rare as it is, if this happens, reboot to android, run ROM Manager and ask it to install recovery. When it's done, ask it to reboot to recovery and it will install CWM 2.5.0.7 then boot into it, which will let you flash the zip which you couldn't flash before. Awesome!
The good thing is, once you leave recovery, 2.5.0.7 is gone and next time to reboot to recovery (not using ROM Manager) you will be back to 3.0.0.5.
Double awesome!!
What I've advised in the last 2 posts works well for me and has done for months, so hopefully it will work for you too.
Don't use ROM Manager for anything other than this though, cos apart from this it is rubbish!!
EDIT: CWM is here by the way

Hi,
I used Unrevoked with the latest Clockwork recovery. Unfortunately, I got this error message : "Error, failed to get root. Is your firmware too new ?"
I think I must reset the phone though I don't want to... That'll do like I did the 1st time.
That sucks !
Sorry to hear that Kev94,
Here's a few suggestions that have worked for others who got your error message:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/249730-unrevoked3-your-firmware-too-new.html
I have another problem : I just reset the phone via the phone option. Everything went fine, except it rebooted into recovery, then I rebooted it normally, and eventually nothing was reset or changed ! It was like nothing happened... WEIRD !
I'd like to wipe the phone via the recovery option, yet I can't mount /data.
Is there gonna be a problem if I choose to wipe, given it says it can't mount /data ? ->I don't want to brick or corrupt my phone, get boot loop or anything else.
Have similar problem
Again, i just performed a wipe data/factory reset via the recovery, and nothing changed ! Should I try a HBOOT "clear storage" ?
I recently rooted my HTC Wildfire vith alpharev x, that turned my phone S-OFF and then Super One Click to root. Today I wanted to flash a custom ROM and I downloaded Clockworkmod. It pdated itself to 2.5.0.7. I now tried to download CyanogenMod, but when it wants to reboot to Clockworkmod recovery, it just reboots into a black screen with an image of a phone and a red triangle with "!" mark. From there I somehow managed to get to a mode where I can choose between
-reboot
-apply update.zip
-wipe user data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
Below that is a yellow writing that sais that some command was not found.
If I try "apply update.zip" it stops due to a verification error.
What can I do? Please help, I really want that custom ROM...
Thanx
EDIT: Nevermind, Ive found a way...

It just hangs at "Installing update" and stays like that.
I now have no ROM installed at all and when I turn on the phone it just goes straight to clockworkmod 3.0.0.6
Can anyone help me??

Didn't you take a backup before proceeding to install a custom ROM???? Anyway do you Wipe data/factory reset, Clear Cache Partition, Clear Dalvik cache before installing a New ROM????
I went through the Alpharev s-off process and now I cant install any roms... I have tried installing after clearing everything..wip/clear/dalvik
Switch Clockworkmod version. Some users are having issues with 3.0.0.6. Future versions can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
And you can use Fastboot to install it in 1 step. Guide here:

I flashed CWM via Odin and rebooted into Recovery Mode, but there is no option to flash a mod or tar from internal storage. I have 5 options in my CWM menu and they are as follows.
reboot system now
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
I have the mods loaded on the root of my internal storage, but CWM wont let me get to them.
I tried flashing a stock recovery via Odin, failed.
I can turn on my phone and it works just fine, but I cannot get CWM to let me root the phone.
Any help?

Are you sure you flashd clockwork mod and not stock? It sounds like stock recovery is what you have. try flashing this in
Odin https://dl.dropbox.com/u/16085428/CWM-6.0.1.2/recovery.tar.md5
Sounds like stock recovery to me not clockwork recovery

This kind of happened to me, I have rooted plenty of devices prior to my SG3 and with CWM flashed through Odin 3.04 (Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time) checked. Everything passed as it should have and phone reboots normally. Upon powering down i went into recovery finding the stock recovery still there, NOT CWM's recovery.
Doing some research I found that if you check ONLY F. Reset Time and NOT Auto Reboot you will flash the device with a PASS and then the Download mode screen will stay on the device. Making sure that you have the USB cable removed at this point remove the battery. Replace the battery and reboot into recovery mode and you will see that your phone goes into Clockworkmod Recovery! BUT you only get this once, you have to repeat the steps using ODIN to flash CWM every time you want to use it, what a pain in the butt, especially if you do not have Triangle Away. I belive this is because of the new OTA update from Sprint (so I've heard).
Now i have the same kind of issue because apparently when i run CWM's ROM manager it says i have no CWM recovery installed after i have done it counless times.
Has anyone ran into this use as well? OP is this kind of the same issue you have? at the top of your Recovery screen it will tell you clear as day if you are using the stock recovery or CWM.
I say take the guessing out of it...Use TWRP

I've rooted my international N7100 with CF-Auto-Root. I wanted to install TWRP recovery today, so I downloaded GooManager from the PlayStore, downloaded the latest TWRP recovery, installed it and when I try to get into custom recovery it doesn't open TWRP! It opens something that is similar to CWM custom recovery and it says:
Android system recovery <3e>
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
Why can't I get into TWRP? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

You seem to have the stock recovery, so the install was not successful. Instead of GooManager, try to install twrp with ODIN or even with mobile ODIN (Playstore). As an alternative to twrp, you can also try philz recovery, which is an excellent recovery.
