first off if this is in the wrong section then please forgive me
I would like to know if (1) anyone has made a honeycomb port for the epic and (2) If not would it be too hard to make a port if there isn't already one?
HC is optimized for tablets, and Epic isn't one, so no port.

It's possible, but really hard and not worth the time. Most people would rather see CM7 and MIUI working. It is available for the G1 and maybe Nexus One.
Im sorry but "hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha" We don't have a running CM7 (fully).. no GB source, proprietary device drivers, a hacked together RIL, a camera identical to other GS phones yet seems to be different (for no good reason) than the others for interaction in AOSP styles roms. The ugly red headed step child of the Galaxy S series with some awesome dev's and cooks that put up with enough crap from our regular users.. (me included) So please... forget the HC and bring find us some GB source
Oh yeah and somehow we have physical keyboard lag... introduced it seems to me to prevent double taps and makes typing quickly a PITA!

The HD2 has it along with the G1 and Nexus..... non of the above are tablets.... I asked this question a while ago OP but unfortunately like the post by xboxfanj says it would take alot of work and time because Google still hasn't release source for honeycomb because they didn't want people to port it to low end tablets.... plus only a small amount of people including me would like to see honeycomb on our phone.... hopefully we can get some cm8(ics?)......
the long waited tegra 2 ics is now available so means the drivers to put HWA into function is available too...is it mean that a full working CM10 (or jellybean) rom will be developed soon seems all the crucial drivers are available now...
but 1 thing i found that there are less strong or experienced developers are using the glide as their phone and cause us have less power custom roms and kernels...
maybe we need to promote our phone to those optimus 2x and galaxy r developers...they have strong devs there...cause the devs were using those phone which is much popular and familiar than the glide, but they have lower hardware spec, no keyboard and with 512 only ram...and the devs did a good job on optimized them...
i believe our phone will be freaking STRONG if there are numbers of devs willing to optimized it...

Yes but people are usually interested in the hardware they have purchased. So how do you get someone who does not have the hardware interested in helping us out? Please recall even DMan had someone lone him a phone for him to help out. The glide is a great phone but unfortunately has not sold as much, as other popular phones.

maybe we can gift a GLIDE to devs like owain94 from optimus 2x or arcee...they are strong devs and they have a real good base knowledge on tegra 2 device...
We have dman workng on a rom as we speak... this should of been posted in the general section to btw
I suspect he is but has dman said he is working on a new ROM? I'm curious if he is making his own ROM or porting CM. I think Inception was just a stripped down official version of 2.3.5. I would love to see a CM 10 port and not just a repacked stripped ROM.
Oh my gosh with all the discussions about this. BE PATIENT. You all have no idea how much time it takes. Take a look at Inception. It took 1 week just to theme. If you want a stable, JB rom for bounty, the Collective doesn't release half ass working JB builds. Take a look

Jellybean will be coming soon.. but only when its stable.. no need to release a half ass working build.. just an update.. we are known for stability, not for being the first to the finish line, quality is our goal...

Please forgive me, I'm sorry for being harsh but I've seen so many threads about this in such a short period of time. Dman and his team the Collective dev for 4-5 devices. I've been learning dev for 6 months and so far all I can do is basic tweaking to apks and decompiling them, as well as putting them in a zip.
Seriously. Just be patient, some of you. Reported for moving, btw
P.S:
This is not a port. It's compiling from source. 10 times harder and time consuming. But less chance for bugs.
P.P.S:
Inception was made without the device. It would've been near impossible to build AOSP blindly. (AOSP is pure, vanilla, Android)
P.P.P.S:
This is not an opinion poll. The devs make it how they like it, you're lucky they post it for you. They could just keep it to themselves. Feature requests are always good, but not "I like CM but I don't want a stripped modified ROM"
Thanks
After having spent the past 5 hours flashing various kernels/ROMs in my gf's xperia x10 mini pro due to various bugs, I will have to agree - in the end, stability is a must, and I am certain dman is working his magic as we speak, no need to get impatient

Everyone is being patient. Were thankful to have any devs working on this device. I just havent seen any posts directly from dman about what he's working on for the Glide. I could have missed the post, thats why I asked. But it would be cool to see a post directly from him about it and not just speculation.
Thread moved
No matter how patient everyone is being, these types of threads still keep getting started in Development. They do not belong there. They belong in General. Keep them in general. Thank you for your cooperation.
Please, everyone, just take a sit, grab a drink, and wait for dman to do his magic
I'm all for quality over a rushed job. Dev'ing is hard, especially for an under-popular device like our own. Fewer fellow devs to help out and carry the load, and more people putting the pressure on because they're impatiently excited.
Give the devs their time, it will be alright. I'm still happy with INCEPTIONv1, more so than the leaked ICS.

OP update the post!!!!
Hey i didn't know whether to post this in Q&A or Android Development so sorry if its in the wrong place
I've just read that HP is releasing Open WebOS source code tomorrow and was thinking, now that its open source, if it would be possible to port it to the HTC Desire?
I used to own a Palm Pre and WebOS ran very well due to it being extremely lightweight so i don't think that it should have any problems running on the Desire.
Even the gestures under the screen should be possible with the desires trackpad thingy.
I have no knowledge in porting or programming or anything android based really but think its a good idea so if anyone on here has any know-how, feel free to let me know if its possible? :good:
I was thinking about it to. Just have read about the release. Would it be possible to port?

I started looking into it yesterday hit a major roadblock when noticed that LG G2 is CM-11.0 based and Ubuntu touch is CM-10.1.
Talked to Rsalvetti he said that hes been working on something and should have a update next week.
Like to help out
I have an LG G2 and would like to pitch in on the development effort. Also have ordered a G Pad 8.3 so I should be able to piggyback if I work on both devices. Love to see a full featured Ubuntu on these devices.
LG G2 korea version F320l Help me all

End up needing someone to test it, when something is made, I can help. I have the G2 ls980.

what's the status on this?
I just got the source downloaded and started playing around a bit....
Ubuntu touch on back burner?
I was excited to try and pitch in on this but it seems like the Canonical drive for Ubuntu touch development has lost steam lately. I had read somewhere that priorities had shifted and it was not receiving the same attention and effort that it was during Q3 2013. I'm still excited to contribute but it doesn't seem like there is a lot of progress on the project on a regular basis. That could just be my impression but I don't see the progress spreadsheets getting updated for the most popular phones and tablets shipping over the last 2 quarters.
Last time I started working on this they where merging all the phablet codebase with the android 4.2 framework and working on installing their own code review system (gerrit) for phablet.
Haven't swing around to ask in the IRC but rsalvetti could tell what's the status on a phablet build for 4.2

Well, there's a difference between their official builds for Nexus devices and community builds. There's been a lot of work on the official builds lately. You can see improvements on those supported devices every day. It's just logical that Canonical cannot take care of tens or hundreds of devices. Therefore they focus on a small selection. If you don't see any progress on a particular, officially not supported device, it's not Canonical's fault.
By the way: They rather speed up development. To manage this, they even quit their cloud storage service: http://beuno.com.ar/archives/318
I talked to Ricardo Salvetti he told me that you can check out a branch of their ubuntu modified android framework with this command.
repo init -u https://code-review.phablet.ubuntu.com/p/aosp/platform/manifest.git -b phablet-4.4.2_r1
I am in the process of figuring out now how to get libhybris and get the old brunch command working.
Haven't gotten on IRC but if you get on it through the week during the day i am sure they can help us out.
Ill let you guys know if i have any luck getting the device, kernel and other repositories checked out.

That's excellent that Ricardo Salvetti gave you assistance to get going on development for G2. I didn't get in touch (not pun intended) with him yet even though
I have been on the Ubuntu touch IRC channel to try and follow current development activity and news. As for the previous post, I don't expect Canonical to do
any significant development except on the original 4 (now 3) platforms that they planned to support with corporate development. I see they have discontinued
support for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and so now are down to 3 devices. I made my comment on slow development pace since I didn't see much being
added or updated to many of the most popular 2013 phones/tablets that you would expect to see get a decent amount of community dev support. Furthermore,
since UT is based off of CM10.1 it is difficult to try and support new devices since CM10 is now basically in maintenance with CM11 receiving most of the dev
support for newer devices. I love Canonical and there commitment to open source Linux development but it just seems like the Ubuntu Touch development is
facing an uphill battle to remain relevant when newer devices are becoming really difficult to support due to the dated started point for CM based branch
development. At this point I would love to hear Canonical talk about a strategy to shift newer Ubuntu Touch development to a CM11 base if that could be
managed.

cm 11.0 is 4.4.2 the reason I had to wait for a while for development on the LG G2 was exactly that they did not supported CM11 with the command I posted before they now support CM11 Devices and I believe they moved their core 3 devices to CM11 already.
Exactly for the reason you mentioned about CM10 being in maintenance.

Well that is great to hear. I guess I haven't been following UT as closely as I probably should. I'm very eager to pitch to get some development underway on LG G2 and LG G Pad 8.3. I was just discouraged because these newer platforms all have been moving onto KitKat and UT was using JB (CM10.1) base for development so it seemed like an uphill battle even with a lot of help from Canonical devs. Since they are moving UT development up to CM11 these and other platforms should be a much easier development task since work on CM11 and 4.4.2 AOSP projects is very active, hence getting questions answered should be a lot easier.
Got the easy part done building ubuntu touch.
Now I am working on getting it to boot it is really hard since I have no way to diagnose why it's stuck on the LG logo.
Does anyone know how to build a serial usb cable for lg devices I did one for samsung and it helped debug issues in the past.

Looks like the Andropod interface can get you USB debugging. Post back if you wind up using it for UT development on the G2.

Thanks I found it when I tried getting it working. But that does not appear to mention it's for the kernel it's supposedly used for debugging applications.
Looking at the block diagram I don't think it will work since basically that device is a USB to serial command adapter.
While I need the phone to output serial (done in kernel) and to figure out which wiring is the one to read that serial output.
I could try setting up a framebuffer but i gave it a quick attempt and it didnt work.
Additionally I haven't figured out how to flash the kernel without having to use the ubuntu installer. and that means that I have to reinstall everything from scratch and that takes about 40 minutes.
If I could figure out the command to flash the kernel I could do a adb push kernel && adb shell flash kernel. And that would take 3-5 minutes.
Thank God I went with the nexus 5

4.4.2 base out for AOSP roms for LG-G2
Hay there! please check out the LGG2 forum there they get 4.4.2 base for aosp roms.... like SLIMKAT is now based on 4.4.2 base.. so now you can get that thing try to port to LG G2.. I guess
Any update on this?
This still alive vs980
I was wondering, Where is Ubuntu? I mean, its been announced way back in the beginning of the year and it was rumored that it was coming to come out before the year is over, but no mention of this happening. I just would like to see something different besides the same CM, TW style of roms.
Be nice to see something different. Just thought I ask.
Saucy Salamander AKA Ubuntu Touch is a community driven project. Its in development and will take time. You could help them port from the Nexus version to the T999 if you are so inclined.
I wish I can port. I don't know anything about coding or porting.
